One Million Moms Vs TV Land’s Teachers

Just in from Monica Cole:

TV Land continues to air the vile program “Teachers” on Tuesday evenings at 10:00 p.m. ET/9:00 p.m. CT with a TV-14 L rating, but the previews air much earlier in the evening when children are likely watching TV.

The vulgar advertisements for “Teachers” are airing during shows such as the “Andy Griffith Show” and other family-friendly programs. The previews alone are disgusting, and that is extremely disturbing since it involves a young cast. If the promos are this bad, then obviously the show is not suitable for TV.

It is almost impossible to describe the depth of depravity found in the TV Land sitcom “Teachers.” Every scene is filled with sexual innuendos, implications, or encounters.

Teaching is an honorable profession, but oftentimes a thankless job. 1MM wants to support and encourage educators, not belittle, mock, or bring them down as TV Land is doing.

TV Land is encouraging crude dialogue, offensive gestures at school, teachers being cruel to young children, and questioning authority. “Teachers” is irresponsible and an insult to women and teachers.

Take Action: Please use the information we have provided to contact Advil (owned by Pfizer) and ask that they pull their financial support from “Teachers.”

Sister of homophobe who lost yesterday’s Virginia election is slamming him on social media.

      • Todd20036

I read that too. How siblings with such divergent views on something so basic can exist is beyond me.

        • Gustav2

You have never met my brothers.

        • dagobarbz, fine Italian shoes

Thanksgiving should be fun this year…

        • The_Wretched

I have a sister who lives in Texas. She’s a-ok with very limited teaching on evolution.

        • ChrisMorley

Girls and boys are often raised differently within families. A good test is whether the lads did as much housework as their sisters. Were the girls expected to have careers or just get married.
It seems her parents taught her to be empathic and accepting, him not so much.

      • Reality.Bites
        • Disqusdmnj

I remember her! She was called a show killer, because anything she was on – good or bad – never made it long. Still, she had good comic timing and seems to have had a good career.

And she definitely has the right attitude about her dickhead brother!

          • Reality.Bites

One show she was on, Out of Practice, was a seeming can’t lose going by cast and creators. She played the lesbian daughter of Henry Winkler and Stockard Channing, brother to Christopher Gorham and
Ty Burrell, created by Joe Keenan and Chris Lloyd.

A couple of the early episodes featured Carol Ann Susi (voice of Mrs. Wallowitz) as a server in the coffee shop where they hung out.

          • Disqusdmnj

Didn’t watch that one, but have vague recollections of it.

I did watch Chicago Sons though, with her, Jason Bateman, and David Krumholtz. But again, made it only half a season.

          • JCF

            I LOVED that show!

        • Gigi

I don’t know her, but I like her style.

    • Tawreos

Maybe there is a reason to join 1MM =)

  • kareemachan

Sweeties of the 835 Menopausal Moms, you tried this before. It went nowhere and the show was renewed for another season.

    Get over yourselves.

  • hdtex

“Teachers” is laugh out loud funny. One of the few programs I DVR.

    • Harley

I DVR EVERYTHING 1MM hates. That is all the best television to watch.

      • /

I probably wouldn’t have discovered the Mick (which is freaking hilarious – one of the best recent comedies, IMO), the Fosters, Impastor, and a whole slew of other shows were it not for them putting in the research to making sure they were crude enough or gay enough for my tastes.

        • Reality.Bites

I was aware of and watching those shows before OMM.

How much would you pay me to tell you what to watch? 😉

          • /

How about happy purrs and warm lap cuddles?

The Mick is really great. It had better not be canceled.
I liked Kaitlin Olsen in It’s Always Sunny, but I love her even more in this show, especially with her crazy interactions with Carla Jimenez.

          • Phil in Colorado

Actually, I just read that The Mick was increased to 20 episodes for the season…. 🙂

        • Pete Wascher

don’t forget “the real o’reillys”. (sorry we lost that one.)

          • /

I would attribute it to them, but it was the one I was aware of well before 1MM, and I absolutely loved it. So sad that it was canceled.

      • Pete Wascher

one 1MM hate message is worth 10 paid ads by a show.

  • Friday’s_cat

    Teaching a thankless job?
Thank Betsy Devoss and 1MM for that.
Related: republicans want to end the deduction teachers take when buying school supplies for needy students.

    • Yeah, it’s hard to take them seriously as it is is, but even more so when the GOP and Conservatives tend to be so anti-teacher and anti-education.

      • Rambie

Education to them is for the rich who can buy their way into the Ivy League

      • Nowhereman

They really don’t think that we should have public education at all. If your parents can’t afford private school for their sons, then tough shit. And of course girls don’t need any book learnin at all. They can have their brothers read the buybull to them.

    • jerry

Also being cut was the deduction for student loan interest (up to $2500 deducted from your income). From what I’ve seen, most middle-class taxpayers would end up paying more within a couple years. So this plan is a direct transfer from the middle to the upper classes.

    • Nowhereman

Well of course they do! Gawd I hate them and all that they stand for. I hope their latest revival of treacle-down goes up in flames, and that most of them go down in the Russia scandal. That whole party took Russian money and Russian help with propaganda. And while I’m on a rant, here’s to Twitter and Facebook getting a good spanking as well.

  • Gene Perry

You do realize that 1MM is not actual moms. It’s a bunch of middle-aged white guys in a tiny office somewhere with a mailing list and too much time on their hands.

    • Harley

1fat guy living in his mom’s basement. Also a big trump supporter.

    • Tatonka

It could be Russia but it could be China, could also be lots of other people. It could be someone sitting on their bed that weighs 400 pounds.

      • AaronD12

The bed weighs 400 pounds? 😉

        • AmeriCanadian

Gotta love the ambiguous language we call English.

        • Nowhereman

That’s probably exactly how Trump said it. He barely has a passing acquaintance with the English language…
I just checked, and it is, word for word.

    • /

I’m convinced that 1MM is actually a case of sexual frustration and vaginal candidiasis that has achieved a very basic level of sentience and the ability to type.

    • Todd20036

And they don’t number a million, or anywhere close to that.

    • Reality.Bites

Hardly a bunch. Basically their entire work is the press releases we see here from time to time. There’s no attempt to engage with their supporters (or opponents).

  • shellback

Boycotting teevee shows is a prelude to burning books. Sieg heil, you trollops.

    • gaycuckhubby

Lol. Ummmm…. duck dynasty, property bros.
      We threaten boycotts constantly.
      Not complaining, just sayin

      • Gigi

When did we start boycotting The Property Brothers? They’re allies.

        • Todd20036

I think he meant when HGTV nearly had the identical twins be the Property Brothers, and they were pro-LBGT concentration camps. Seriously.

          • gaycuckhubby

            Thems the ones!

        • AmeriCanadian

Those two always give me the vibe of having done each other in their younger years.

          • Reality.Bites

Well they’re still younger than me, so I guess they must still be doing it.

I think identical twins should probably get a bit of a pass on the whole incest taboo thing. And definitely conjoined twins should.

Imagine being a pair of conjoined twins where one is super private about sex and the other is a voyeur. Or vice versa.

Find the right conjoined actors and it’s sitcom gold.

          • gaycuckhubby

Sitcom? I’m Waiting for the porn

          • Reality.Bites

In porn I don’t care about their personalities.

          • AmeriCanadian

Wow. You like to travel down some very winding one-way roads don’t you? 😉

          • Nowhereman

Interesting little thought to ponder there.

        • gaycuckhubby

Sorry! Wrong one. The douchey Christian Bros that had a (home improvement?) show that was cancelled. Thanks to protests

          • jerry

Benham brothers…who are still grifting for christ.

          • Nowhereman

            And they’re still crying victimhood.

    • Gigi

Trollop is an extremely underused word, imho.

    • Todd20036

And about as useful as that Disney boycott

    • gaycuckhubby

If that’s the case then GLAAD and HRC must be getting a huge bonfire ready 🙂

  • Tulle Christensen

So the one moms still have not been able to find the channel changing or off button on the remote?

edit: heh, damn you spell correct

    • Friday’s_cat

Probably because they used it to pleasure themselves and forgot where they stuffed it.

    • Tawreos

They have food in one hand and a soda in the other, how are they going to use a remote?

  • The vulgar advertisements for “Teachers” are airing during shows such as
the “Andy Griffith Show” and other family-friendly programs.

Just for fun, someone should tell them what Andy Griffith’s political views were. :p

    • Pete Wascher

andy, a big democrat supporter–i looked it up. 🙂

    • RobynWatts

      Also, Ron Howard’s. :p

  • Ninja0980

    One busybody says what?

  • Tawreos

Isn’t The Andy Griffith show the one that takes a horrible problem like alcoholism and treats it like a joke? Good “family” programming you have there.

    • AmeriCanadian

Yes and doesn’t it make the deputy (and thus the police department) a joke via Barney Fife?

    • Reality.Bites

Not to mention the definitely gay garage mechanic and the suspiciously effeminate town barber and town clerk.

Let’s face it – Howard Sprague was no Kim Davis.

      • Nowhereman

Wow! I guess I wasn’t paying close enough attention!

  • SilasMarner

1MM must be the most unhappy group of people ever. Nothing ever seems to please them. Maybe they just need a good orgasm.

    • Mark

Is that a Pontiac Star Chief??

      • SilasMarner

        1958 Chieftan

        • Friday’s_cat

I wouldn’t mind a Safari in the drive.

        • Mark

I saw a 58 Star Chief for sale in Palm Springs last weekend – my aunt ‘n uncle had one when I was growing up. Man, I love chrome!!

    • djcoastermark

Good luck finding anyone willing to help out with that problem. 🙂

    • Tawreos

Uh oh, you said orgasm, prepare to have 1MM boycotting you. Congratulations =)

    • Tor

      Don’t you mean org*sm?

  • Michael R

I’ve been toying with the idea of starting to watch this show for awhile now.
Thanks, Munsy Cole, for helping me make up my mind!

crude dialogue, offensive gestures at school, teachers being cruel to young children

I’m not sure if she’s complaining or stating the obvious parallels between the show and Christian homeschooling.

  • If only bitter, selfish, desperate, psychologically damaged teachers were funny in real life instead of always giving pop quizzes to make sure at least a few people in the world (not living in an active war zone) were sharing their private hell. “Teachers” is funny.

    • Pete Wascher

you’re funny too! enjoyed your comment. 🙂

  • Harley

I can see where 1MM hates teachers when the show defines the difference between a hypothesis and a theory. Blows all the arguments on the theory of evolution or the theory of gravity.

    • Pete Wascher

VERY good, real life examples of the difference. i’m in for watching another season.

  • TexasBoy

Oh no, an ad they consider unsavory is airing on TV Land!!!

I grew up in a time BEFORE there were ratings on movies, and when there were cigarette ads on TV. I had a crush on the Marlboro Man. 😉

Yet OMM doesn’t seem to see anything wrong with all those prescription drug ads, h the ads with blue water being poured on feminine hygiene products, or erectile dysfunction ads.

  • Gigi

“Teachers” is on Tuesday evenings at 10:00 p.m. ET/9:00 p.m. CT.

I was wondering where that show’d been moved to. Thanks, Monica!

  • greenmanTN

This show is clearly unrealistic. No gay male teachers?

Aside, but have you noticed that nearly every time there is a news story about some really inspiring, selfless teacher winning an award it’s a gay man?

    • Pete Wascher

    • Reality.Bites

The principal of the school is played by Tim Bagley, a gay actor known for playing gay roles (half of Joe and Larry on Will & Grace) but I don’t pay close enough attention to teachers to know if his character is gay or not.

  • Reality.Bites

In related news, despite my continued foot stamping there is still a chance of snow this weekend.

    • Michael White

We are expected to get a “dusting” tomorrow morning depending on how the bands of lake effect snow set up. Inches are supposed to hit a bit west of us.

  • ETownCanuck

The only problem I see with this show, is that it doesn’t appear to be all that funny, maybe the two clips just didn’t do it justice.

  • Pete Wascher

very funny! i’m in for watching!

  • Uncle Mark

“The vulgar advertisements for ‘Teachers’ are airing during such shows as ‘The Andy Griffith Show’…” AND just look at what that wholesome show has taught us about family values…….

    • Reality.Bites

From what Andy Griffith’s hinted about Frances Bavier, it’s surprising Andy and Opie weren’t the heavy drinkers.

      • Uncle Mark

Nah…..they probably had good laughs after work, knowing that they were more vital to the show and paid better than the diva

  • Buford

Stating the obvious…the next time some redneck conservative suggests that liberals are the hyper-PC snowflakes who need to learn to take a joke (usually an offensive one), just start listing all of this ubiquitous boycott nonsense from OMM, NOM, AFA, etc.

  • Tom Furgas

Ms. Cole is living in the 1950’s. Her notion that children today are innocent angels who must be shielded from the horrors of S-E-X is pathetic and laughable. Most of the youngsters I know use language that would make a sailor blush.

  • Jeff Breeze

Ok they complain about shows like this, but dont say anything about Game of Thrones, (which I LOVE, BTW)? Methinks someone doth protest too much. And I STILL say getting these idiots laid is just what some of them need, although to be honest who’d want to volunteer for that?

    • Reality.Bites

They generally confine themselves to broadcast TV and basic cable channels that are susceptible to advertiser pressure.

  • Disqusdmnj

I’m sure 1MM would be butt-hurt about anything, but on the point of advertising a show like this (never saw it myself) during an hour where you would expect more G-rated shows, that I understand. When my son was young, we’d record shows and then watch them as a family, and be fairly surprised at what was advertised during a show clearly targeted towards young kids. It would be like seeing a R-rated trailer before a Winnie the Pooh movie. So *some* common sense should be in order, but there is no gray middle with these Xtian types.

    • Frank McCormick

So, you have an opinion about a show that you’ve never seen based on the assessment of 1MM? I bet you’ve already seen the commercials and they were just a blip. Please don’t fall into their trap!

      • Disqusdmnj

Not like I’m going to boycott the show or anything, but I think there’s a valid point in previews for shows or movies shown at appropriate times. I have seen some commercials for the show and don’t really register them because my son is 15 now so I don’t worry about what else he sees… but were one to pop up when I was watching a “wholesome” show with an 8 y/o? Yes, I can sort of see their point, regardless of which show we’re talking about.

Again, I’m against boycotting, and this group is preposterous in their bible-clutching attitudes. Shows live and die by viewership, not by kowtowing to some prudes with nothing better to do. But if this organization or any other were simply pushing for time-appropriate ads for mature shows, I can’t say I’d argue with that.

  • TexasBoy

I went to a classic movie night at a local theater last night. I’m actually surprised no one was protesting. The movie was Blazing Saddles.

  • Dayglo

Ha ha, One Million Moms … jokes on you! No one has ever tuned into TV Land.

  • Bambino

OMM has crappy taste.99.9% of their pick are shows that I already not watching. They should stop doing the PR for the entertainment industry.

    • Guess?

I know. I had to start watching Claws because of their whining and now I’m going to have to start watching Teachers.

      • Bambino

I try a couple the OMM picks. Let’s just say they should not be reviewing shows on Rottentomatoes any time soon.

  • The_Wretched

Are we sure producers aren’t sending OMM a check to get more attention? The clips were funny and cute but I don’t think I’d sit down for more than a minute or two to watch this.

  • colo303

So they use a show that will probably fail to bump up their”wins”. Oh yeah, go mmoms!

    • Reality.Bites

It’s in its second season and already renewed for season 3.

      • colo303

        Thank you for the clarification

  • Lee Grupsmith-Pedersen

10pm is too late for small children to be watching TV. Should we sic Child Services on you, OMM?

  • Mickey Bitsko
  • Mike

Who’s being an anti-free speech cupcake, Kay?

  • -M-

    Yah, sweetie they’re bad teachers. That’s the joke. Hello o o o o?

  • KnownDonorDad

Teaching is an honorable profession, but oftentimes a thankless job.

Yeah, in no small part because teachers are under attack by creationist, climate science-denying, history-revising people like you!

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

      OMNEG!!! SO MUCH TRUTH!!!!!!!!

  • Lizard

“1MM wants to support and encourage educators, not belittle, mock, or bring them down as TV Land is doing.”

Uh-huh. That’s why you want to berate them whenever they try to teach your children that gay people are people, too.

Fuck you, 1MM. You only “support” teachers whenever it’s convenient for your hateful ideology.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: if your kids are watching shows you don’t like them to, it’s YOUR responsibility to monitor them not the broadcaster. Also, most TV’s come with parental controls that are easy to program. Barring all that, use the remote control and either change the channel or shut the damn thing off.

  • Notnerb

So where is their campaign against Game of Thrones, or are they totally down with incest, child sacrifice and brutal murders? Oh yeah, I forgot, they only go after smaller , niche shows with low ratings so they can claim “victory” when they go off the air like they would have anyway due to low ratings

  • Raising_Rlyeh

“Teaching is an honorable profession, but oftentimes a thankless job. 1MM wants to support and encourage educators, not belittle, mock, or bring them down as TV Land is doing.”

And many teachers find this portrayal to be funny. People can tell the difference between reality and fantasy. Plus, that “bring[ing] them down” is treating them as humans. Too often we hold teachers to a much higher standard even higher than police.

  • JCF

“Every scene is filled with sexual innuendos, implications, or encounters.”

Lawdy, bring me mah smellin’ salts—Ahm gettin’ the vapuhs!

  • Nowhereman

Monica Cole needs to get a life. I wonder if she knows anyone who’s smart enough to program her remote control to block all channels that might play a show that might upset her. Of course that would be all of them so maybe she should just cancel her cable and rent Kirk Cameron videos.

  • Ore Carmi

Actually, I’m offended by this too. Not the sexual stuff (I don’t care). But why are they all women? Why are they all white? The teachers I know are way more diverse and interesting than these characters (even if the ones I know are all women).
