Country Music Awards Hosts Mock Trump [VIDEO]

Mediaite reports:

Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood, hosts of the Country Music Association Awards, flouted the whims of CMA producers with a political opening song poking fun at President Donald Trump.

After Underwood informed Paisley that CMA guidelines said the show would be a “politics free zone,” Paisley joked that he wouldn’t be able to perform such parody songs as ““She Wrote a Memoir, Hillary’s Back,” “Hold Me Closer Bernie Sanders,” or “Stand By Your Manafort.”

But then, Paisley said screw it, and launched into a rendition of Underwood’s 2005 hit “Before He Cheats,” but with a few alterations to fit the song to the current president.

It was nice of @mhome19681 to broadcast to everyone that he pays no attention to things going on around him and is ignorant as all hell.

    • skyweaver

I thought so too. What a nice nice person, and so perceptive about Trump’s godly morals

      • OdieDenCO

donny does have godly morals. Zeus fucked around and ate his daughter. the only reason he stayed married to Hera was because Hera would have castrated him if he even thought of divorce. 🙂

Pretty sure that people like him are their target audience.

  • Tomcat

Glad to see the haters won’t watch CMA again. They were tainting it.

  • Friday’s_cat

Those tweets gotta be snark else they dumber than a drawer full of dull hammers with broken peens.

    • AmeriCanadian

Or agents provocateurs. Stating that Drumpf has “Godly morals”…there just isn’t any kind of response to that level of inanity.

      • BlindBill

        Russian agents?

        • AmeriCanadian

        • -M-

Maybe. But it seemed strange that the Russians cared so much about the ‘wrong’ popular country stars winning some of the awards.

    • jmax

I’m gonna go with…dumber than a drawer full of hammers.
Honestly, my father used to call Obama the “Ni**er in the White House” and believed the whole born-in-Kenya-secret- Muslim bullshit. Now that Trump is president, he says that God chooses the leader of the country because we are a Christian nation. I just can’t talk to him anymore.

  • Gustav2

The song was actually safe for their Republican leaning audience. Most Trump supporting Republicans wish he would tweet less…just not the crazies and the Ivans.

  • skyweaver

If people are turning against you from the country music world (who were terrible sycophants post-911 with W Bush) then you’ve really gone down the tubes

    • SelectFromWhere

That was a whole generation of music fans ago. Thankfully.

  • “Hold Me Closer, Bernie Sanders”
    “Stand By Your Manafort”

    Okay that’s funny.

No surprise to see that the Trump cult have their own form of political correctness and are devoid of humor.

  • Stogiebear

Poor Jimxl68. Defending Donnie’s godly pussy-grabbing and lying morals. Should have called them morels since they both grow in shit.

    • TuuxKabin

Your accent came thru especially strong with that one, Stogiebear. Yessir!

    • ZRAinSWVA

Actually, morels grow in pristine woodlands, or backyards and roadsides; pretty much any place they choose, but never where you’re looking for them. Just sayin’.

  • BeaverTales

I thought socially conscious country music had gone the way of the dinosaurs.

I still miss the Eagles and the Dixie Chicks, who weren’t afraid to address social issues over political theatrics with their fans.. Maybe a tiny swing of the pendulum in the opposite direction means there’s still a smidge of hope for the world among country music fans.

  • kaydenpat

Trump has “Godly morals”? So God is a lying, cussing, philandering, scamming, racist p*ssy grabber”? Good to know.

    • Well, in the old testament of the Bible, God is kinda mean and petty lots of the time. So….

      • kaydenpat

But I thought God wrote 10 Commandments, two of which prohibit cheating on your spouse and lying. Oh well. What the hell do I know?

        • Uh…he asked forgiveness and then it was all good!

(That’s usually the excuse I hear anyway)

Edit: Also, he never lied! That’s fake news. It’s the media that lies!

    • TuuxKabin

So it was all about that thing on his head.

      • Gustav2

    • The_Wretched

Not much new news there. Rand retweets Breitbart that it wasn’t a landscaping issue. A neo-poster in the comments there suggest the assailant was a well known wako – conveniently re framing the issue. The real question is why neither have a full and complete public statement.

  • GayOldLady

CMA’s in downtown Nashville which is a mecca of Liberalism in the South. They don’t give a damn what the illiterates (otherwise known as the radio fans) think of them because they aren’t the people who pay to come to their concerts or buy their music. Just look at the audience. They’re young and most aren’t caught up in their parents politics.

    • kaydenpat

Plus Paisley was always a big Obama supporter. He strikes me as liberal.

      • Bambino

Not quite the liberal red necks that took their pants off at a gay nudist camp but good enough.

      • whollyfool

    • gaycuckhubby

    • Leo

Only time the illiterates did matter was the Dixie Chicks fiasco, which still pisses me off to this day. They’re still able to tour globally though which is more than I can say for walking coronary Bush die-hard Toby Keith.

      • gaycuckhubby

Back then artists success was tied into radio play. Not so much now

        • Leo

Good point, didn’t think of that.

      • Lantor

Not Ready to Make Nice is still one of my favorite songs.

      • Grumpy Old Man

Just compare responses to Dixie Chicks and Ted Nugent.

    • KP

A lot of country music politics and positions are decided by country music DJ’s on radio stations. During the Dixie Chicks era it was all old fat white guys with political views like Paul Harvey that issued the fatwa on them.

Today country music DJ’s are like the morning Zoo Crew. Drive time comics. Your average country music radio listener might buy 1 CD per year or go to 2 live concerts in their lifetime.

  • What’s up with the picture of Trump on the lower third? Are they trying to tell Trump how to feel by showing him pictures of himself?

    • Acronym Jim

That is the most flattering picture Fox & Friends could find. It’s gotten THAT bad.

  • Dayglo

They “poked fun” at Sacred Donald Trump. They did not “destroy” him. Country music fans believe Trump has “Godly morals” so expect Brad and Carrie to go the way of the Dixie Chicks – banished from radio.

    • gaycuckhubby

Nah. Different era. They’ll be fine.

  • DJ John Bear

If Trump has “godly” morals, he wouldn’t have grabbed women by the privates, cheated those in the Trump U. scandal, etc. These Trump deplorables have absolutely no moral compass…

    • Scout

They have literally no idea what is actually going on. All they watch is Fox News, so they’re clueless.

      • don’t forget they’re tuned to conservative talk radio as well

    • canoebum

Well, of course he has godly morals. He paid $25 million to those good folks who attended his university. He didn’t have to, he could have appealed, but out of the goodness of his heart, he paid them anyway.

    • Butch

What level of delusion is involved in claiming that Trump has “godly” morals? That’s pure hallucination.

    • jmax

My favorite is when they excuse all Trump’s faults with “Sometimes God uses an imperfect vessel to do His will.” My response is always, “Unless the vessel is black.”

      • KnownDonorDad

There was a piece on This American Life where a radio caller compared Trump to Jehu. It gave a lot of insight into the mindset.

    • Bambino

It’s the accent and the way they enunciate. The ‘im’ in immoral is silence.

    • Ragnar Lothbrok

This person actually married Scott Baio.
      On purpose.

  • jayjonson

Hearing Fox News makes me nauseous.

  • greenmanTN

You know what they say, “As goes Renee Baio, so goes the country.” 🙄

    • Dazzer

She’s just desperate to get Scott a job in the Trump government.

Currently, Scott is still jumping up and down, waving his hands about shouting: “What about me?” after people are still mocking him following his RNC speech.

      • greenmanTN

        So much star power untapped…

      • Tawreos

Trump will hire him once he thinks he has figured out a way to pin all of the Russian stuff on one person, then it will be Chachis big chance.

  • Sean Taylor

dear lord the profesionally offended are tweeting themselves into a stupor

  • Lars Littlefield

Trump “has godly morals, where did you get your’s from . . .”
    Oh my sides! LOL!

  • KnownDonorDad

I sincerely hope the don’t get the Dixie Chicks treatment, although if I recall correctly President Bush was significantly more popular.

  • Bambino

What is this moral thing that this butt hurt trumpters referring to? Are these the same patriots who got their collective assess off from their couches for the national anthem every time they watch a football game?

  • Johnny Wyeknot

Those tweeters are Russian bots. Trust me.

  • Gigi
  • Larry in Oklahoma

To the two distractions, what they failed to mentioned is Carrie and Brad have been hosting the CMA awards for 10 years in a row, so they are obviously quite satisfying the CMA bosses. The dis-tractors can tune out, tune in, or tune to something else….but the people, saying they hate all this, will be back next year, that’s a guarantee. And Mrs. Baio is riding whatever amount of fame her husband garnered last year No series or movie deals, so yeah he’s a really yuuuuge winner.

    • kareemachan

And she is the definition of a twunt.

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

Mrs Baio ? LOL didnt she get bigly shaded the last time she jumped in to the trump cesspool via tweet?

    • Gigi

She’s totally boycotting them dontcha know. Paisley has a net worth of $95 million. Underwood and her hot hubby, Mike Fisher, have a collective net worth of $115 million. I think they’re gonna be okay.

  • Lars Littlefield

I don’t know much about cuntree music, but I do know I can’t be bothered with the Baio the bitch whining that joking about the Cheeto in Chief is somehow a bad thing. She probably has terrorized her children by telling them masturbation is bad.

    • Mike_in_the_Tundra

My parents told me masturbation was bad. I didn’t listen.

      • Lars Littlefield

My dad told me if I didn’t use it that I would lose it. Sixty years alter my urologist told me the exact same thing. 🙂

        • Mike_in_the_Tundra

I would never listen to my dad. He told me not to go out in the rain without a raincoat. It took me several years to figure out what he was saying. By then, his advice was no longer appropriate.

  • Boy Elvis

Renee Baio? Oh no, Brad and Carrie, you’ve lost the support of the spray-tanned prize wife of a z-list actor who hasn’t been relevant for 40 years! Whatever will you do?

  • whollyfool

Was that Steve Doocy saying Trump was fair game at the CMAs because they made fun of Obama in past years? When did this concept occur to him?

    This year baffles me.

  • Gerry Fisher

tRump has godly morals? Where do people get this crap?

  • 5moreminutes*imtired

  • MDixon34

  • kareemachan

After that one lovely thing she tweeted, I thought scottie’s wife wasn’t allowed on Twitter any more.

  • Joseph Miceli

I agree with the second tweet. Trump has Godly morals. Remember all the shit God has pulled in the past? The crap in the Bible alone marks him as a sociopath, much less the very existence of the pediatric cancer ward.
No, Trump is Godly alright. I expect that asshole to kill everyone in the world too, if he gets a chance.

That “Godly morals” thing has to be a snark. Doesn’t it?

  • TheManicMechanic

I think it’s beyond time the country music industry stops coddling the knuckle draggers and stops narrow focusing artist’s output. Many of the artists have talent way beyond making audio pablum for wingnut, but to have a stage in mainstream country, you have to toe the line. Increasing numbers of artists have had enough of this. The Dixie Chicks episode showed how easily many country fans can be triggered, but it was the radio conglomerates that refused to play their music afterward. I say let every popular artist with half a brain make public statements against Trump, and if the snowflakes start melting, so be it. They will get over it eventually, and if the radio stations run out of music to play because of their shenanigans, advertisers will start complaining and the rest is history. Enough keeping people stupid.

    • Talisman

I’m not even sure what to think of today’s country. It’s some weird combination of pop and hip-hop, with a twang.

And when they aren’t trying to be gangsta, they are celebrating beer, beaches, bros, & boobs with obnoxiously-cheerful, formulaic abandon.

And the women are not much better. Miranda Lambert and her nasally untuneful voice wins female vocalist of the year? Might as well give the award to a braying mule.

      • TheManicMechanic

The music has been dumbed down to be little more than that for the same reason Fox News manipulates their low information viewers, who tend to be one and the same. There are lots of good country artists that will never be heard from the country mainstream in the US, and that’s by design. What passes for country music is that exact amalgam you describe. I like to play Country Music Bingo with country radio. It’s an imaginary card with the spaces labeled things like Guns, God, Trucks, Church, Cheating, Beer, Horses, Partying, Divorce, America, the Flag, Family, etc. Get five and you win. By winning I mean you just heard yet another song manufactured to placate the typical country listener. It’s keeping them dumbed down and happy with music. Bread and circuses set to a twangy tune. For the most part, these songs aren’t all that bad on their own. When that’s all you hear, it’s insidious. Watch what happens any time an artist in the mainstream strays, and you’ll see it be swift and unforgiving.

        • Talisman

The record companies have an algorithm that has identified all the elements necessary to make a hit “song” and maximize profits. That’s all that matters. The problem is that it applies to all genres – pop, rock, soul, R&B, & rap. And that’s what you hear on mainstream radio.

I’ve taken to trolling sites like bandcamp and noisetrade to find independent and unique artists that don’t get airplay.

          • TheManicMechanic

Country music is second only to Christian music in how tightly the respective industries control their artists. Most mainstream genres being played on corporate radio these days has to fit into a mold, but some genres by nature are a bit more experimental. Pop is looking for a new sound a bit more than, say, country. You have to look to classical and jazz stations, how few there are, to see the more hands off approaches. I grew up in the 60s and 70s, where pop and rock were expanding and experimenting like mad, I listened to college stations and FM rock during the progressive era, so I had my head filled with some very diverse music in just one genre. I still kept a big ear on pop music too, and got a kick out of a lot of 70s funk because it was just a lot of fun. In fact, I’ve been digging back into funk of that era and forgot just how good a lot of it was. Disco, while overplayed at the time, still holds up, especially those with lush orchestral arrangements. It seems funk is having a bit of a revival lately too. I dig around everything from YouTube and music blogs to pirate sites looking for music that never hits the radio. A big help has been a lot of out-there internet radio stations that play stuff well outside of mainstream, including country music. Countless fantastic songs that will never be heard by a large population bit should be. It makes the mainstream stuff sound like the crap it is by comparison.

  • Rick Zajac

I’m not a big country music fan but I do like looking at Brad Paisley!

    • Talisman

So many closeted queers, so little stage.

Prediction: they’ll go the same way as the Dixie Chicks. Country music fans (or more specifically, country music radio stations) don’t tolerate unbelievers.

    • Talisman

Both Paisley & Underwood are wildly popular. They’ll likely escape unscathed. The repuglicant base is fully aware of who and what Trump is, and they’ll just laugh it off.

  • leastyebejudged

Pay attention to this, things are changing, these two are VERY popular, they will NOT “go the way of the dixie chicks”.
