AP Analysis Reveals Russian Twitter Trolls Worked To Deflect Attention From Trump’s #PussyGate Scandal

The Associated Press reports:

Disguised Russian agents on Twitter rushed to deflect scandalous news about Donald Trump just before last year’s presidential election while straining to refocus criticism on the mainstream media and Hillary Clinton’s campaign, according to an Associated Press analysis of since-deleted accounts.

Tweets by Russia-backed accounts such as “America_1st_” and “BatonRougeVoice” on Oct. 7, 2016, actively pivoted away from news of an audio recording in which Trump made crude comments about groping women, and instead touted damaging emails hacked from Clinton’s campaign chairman John Podesta.

AP’s analysis illuminates the obvious strategy behind the Russian cyber meddling: swiftly react, distort and distract attention from any negative Trump news.

Watch Moore get absolved by the “religious” community, “as he is a changed man…a man of gawd now,” while simultaneously casting aspersions on those “slutty 14 year-olds” and other girls/women. (They always throw out a defense & attack option…so their supporters can pick which one soothes their conscience/morality/sexism better.)

They’ve done it before. Gothard, Wilson, etc.

Yes…I’ve heard many “pro-life” people over the years say that “those women should just keep their legs closed”. It’s always the slutty girls/women.

      LOL…from a RawStory article:

Gloria Thacker Deason says she was an 18-year-old cheerleader when Moore began taking her on dates that included bottles of Mateus Rosé wine.

    • I ran this in the other post — Cornyn seems to be turning. McConnell might be willing to “sacrifice” the Alabama seat to the Democrats — if he thinks that the damage to his caucus will hurt them in the 2018 and 2020 elections. He is that noxious. Like when David Duke ran for Governor for Louisiana as a Republican in 91 — the national party rejected him and told everyone to vote for the Democratic candidate Edwards (vote for the crook, not the hood as I remember).

    • MikeBx2

There’s so much on Twitter about this right now, it’s impossible to keep up. It spread fast.

    • They want Luther Strange so bad, it’s obvious. And don’t want Moore. GOP leadership is seeing this as a chance to do a swap and they’re seizing it.

      • Sam_Handwich

        can they do a swap??

        • Boreal

Tulle says the ballots are already printed and mailed.

          • ben-andy

The Senate can vote not to seat Roy Moore. It is one of their rules for just this occasion. However, that doesn’t keep Luther Strange IN his seat if AL certifies the election. The seat becomes technically vacant.

The maths then are, Thugs 51, Dems/Ind 48 and the Thugs can only lose ONE vote to pass anything = T 50, D/I/T 49. Losing TWO [which they can now w/ a Pence tie-breaker] gives T 49, D/I/T 50.

So, while Turtle might looked shocked and say all the appropriate things, when push comes to shove, the Thugs will seat Moore.

            To echo Sam_Hand, HA!

Each state has different deadlines for someone to drop out, but this is too close to the special election. After a certain point, they’re stuck. I’ve seen people arrested or even convicted of a crime before an election and their name has to, by state election law, remain on the ballot.

        • (((GC)))

Even if they become unqualified to hold the office.

          • jerry

Yes…they can immediately resign and someone appointed to fill the position, if elected. But the party has no chance, after a point, to replace a damaged candidate. Kind of like when a candidate dies before an election…if it’s after a certain date, the deceased candidate is still on the ballot.

    • Ross

      Was Trump elected?

Or was the election stolen for him?

My money is on the latter.

      • Treant

Agreed. Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, at the very minimum, frankly looked wrong.

      • another_steve

Well that’s the question, Ross. I wonder whether history will record Trump’s win as a “stolen election.”

Many believe that Al Gore’s victory over Bush the Idiot from Texas was stolen from him. With major assistance from the US Supreme Court. But alas, I don’t think history books still to be written will record it as such.

  • This is a bit OT — but one thing that I can’t figure out. If you are Trump /Putin/ The Right one of your biggest fear factors right now should be losing control of the Senate in next November’s election. What you do not want to do is let Steve Bannon put up far-right “nationalist” nutjobs in states that are seen as competitive or leaning Democratic according to Charlie Cook and Larry Sabato– (Nevada, Arizona, Missouri, Indiana, Florida, Ohio. West Virginia, North Dakota, Montana and Wisconsin). There is a very good chance the Democrats can win all of these states making for a 50/50 Senate tie — which is a nightmare scenario for the Republicans. All it would take is one seat to switch for the Senate to have Schumer as Majority Leader — a situation which happened in 2001, when James Jeffords of Vermont became an independent and turned control of the Senate over to the Democrats in the Bush administration. Why are they letting Bannon destroy their party?

    • Karl Dubhe

Trump’s already wrecking it, what’s a little more damage?

      • Yeah but if the Senate turns Dem they have subpoena power exclusively. Can you imagine Feinstein et. al controlling subpoenas and not Grassley and his clowns? This is the problem — the Republicans are holding up investigations (but not as blatantly as in the Senate as in the House) rgd. Trump. Also if the Dems control the Senate we can refuse to confirm SCOTUS justices for two years until the next Presidential is elected — if there are openings — just like they did.

…Well, given the level of disclosure of allegations right now, we’ll be getting around to good ol’ Pat. Let’s just put it that way.

Yes, in satire from the Borowitz Report, Andy Borowitz explains that it was a scheme to get tRump impeached:

      https://www.newyorker.com/humor/borowitz-report/trump-accuses-clinton-of-deliberately-losing-election

In what might be his most startling allegation against his former election opponent, Donald Trump on Wednesday accused Hillary Clinton of deliberately losing the 2016 election just so that he could be impeached.

“How could one of the most experienced politicians in history lose to the most unfit candidate ever?” Trump asked reporters. “Crooked Hillary lost on purpose because she wanted me to be impeached.”

Steve Bannon sure knows how to pick ’em, right Roy?

Cause Drumpf was colluding with Russia to steal the election. WE ALL KNOW THIS.

Good. Write-ins will dilute Moore’s votes, and AL isn’t AK. Enough people won’t hear about the allegations–or simply won’t care–and will vote Moore anyway that they’re likely to split the vote.

  • Re Moore: Once again the rule has been proven. The more vehemently a radical fundamentalist wants to control everybody else’s lives, the greater the likelihood they have swarms of pervy rats in their own biographical crawlspaces.

So even as Roy Moore was being a serial sexual predator molesting and committing acts of statutory rape with young teen girls, he’s insisting that consenting grown adults be imprisoned for being gay.

    • Treant

Wait a second. I have tons of pervy rats in my biographical crawlspaces. For fun once, we took an extended purity test as a group at a corporate party. My very low double-digit score was, by far, the lowest.

(The looks were interesting; in a company environment, I never discuss sex, don’t make dirty jokes, and never mention politics or religion. My discussions are limited to weather, topics of amusement, gardening, soap, computers, and books. Everybody assumed, by my clean-cut, geeky appearance, that I was probably extremely vanilla).

I like my pervy rats. And I don’t want to tell you what to do with your life, although I’ll suggest trying at least one new thing a year that you find at least slightly kinky, but completely ethically and morally acceptable, if you wish to challenge yourself a bit. But that’s your decision.

Ted Lieu: In Alabama, age of consent is 16. That means Roy Moore committed criminal sexual abuse if allegations are true. (on twitter)

    • Treant

We’re way past the statute of limitations on that, though.

      • Lizard

And difficult to prosecute under the best of circumstances.

    • Joe in PA

      Lock him up!

I presume the statute of limitations is long run out…but still.

      • Halou

Stuff like this only comes out after a person dies, or as you say after the statute of limitations runs out.
Just see the scale of the Jimmy Saville inquiry in Britain. Even though his network were active and abusing hundreds of children for decades with the silent approval of political, police, judicial and media chiefs, yet the scandal is something that only began after the titular antagonist died.

  • Treant

A thought. What if this is hitting when it is because the GOP sees a Moore loss in the cards and is simply dropping dirt to dilute the value of the Dem win? Then they can continue to claim things are fine until 2018.

(Yes, I think the allegations are true, I simply find the timing to be a little…coincidental, let’s just say).

    • djcoastermark

If it works to keep moore out of DC, it’s ok fine by me. I still won’t buy into a repug claim to dilute.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

Totally, 100% O/T but what the actual fuck??? And people of faith wonder why I and others laugh at “thoughts & prayers”…

This is +1, cumulative, analysis. Even so, it’s good to pin down as exactly as possible and with as much evidence as possible where exactly the Russians put their thumb on the scale. That’s necessary but it’s not sufficient. After these findings, we need to pressure the controlling entities to fitter and stop the Russian driven BS.

OMG Hillary coughed!! She must not be qualified….meanwhile Mc Big Butt is about as healthy as a cat with leukemia and a colostomy bag.

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

      aaaand there’s an image I didn’t need.

      • Lizard

I’d rather have that image than that picture of Drumpf playing tennis.

        • Jean-Marc in Canada

I would say Touche…but that means touch and the thought of touching and Trump….oh fake god, I need to take a shower….

      • Treant

Aw, come on, it’s better than picturing him panting and grunting under Melanoma as she tries to awaken his diabetes-withered and numb peen.

        • Lizard

AGH, Treant! My brain, my brain!!!

Sean Hannity covers election night in 5 seconds

( but stay for the follow up comment )

    • Joe in PA

Thanks for posting, not only did Hannity only spend 5 seconds…he dismissed it with “and not states that Trump won.”

So that makes it all better. Fucking asshole.

  • Tomcat

And this is new news? They had a email dump within hours of this video coming out.

  • With all the sudden negative reaction in Hollywood and the media regarding people like Weinstein and Spacey–when will SAG and AFTRA revoke the Pussy-Grabber-In-Chief’s membership from his time on The Apprentice? Has anyone seen any attempt to strip him of his membership in these professional organizations?

It may be worth noting that the senatorial election is NOT for the full six-year term, but just for the remaining four years of the gnome’s term, which ends in 2020, which is of course the next presidential election (assuming that we get to have one).
