Trump Tweets Congratulations To His “Deplorables” For “MASSIVE Landslide Victory” On Anniversary Of Election

The Hill reports:

President Trump congratulated his supporters on the Wednesday anniversary of his historic victory in the 2016 election, calling them “deplorables” in a nod to former Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton.

The anniversary tweet came attached to a photo of the president with key White House aides aboard Air Force One on Trump’s 13-day trip through Asia, including White House Communications Director Hope Hicks, senior policy adviser Stephen Miller and his son-in-law Jared Kushner.

  • Boss Dave

“Massive”… like that dump he took at the polls yesterday.

    • Snarkaholic

I hope his (blood pressure) ratings are through the roof!

  • Thorn Spike

    Deplorable and delusional.

  • Michael
    • Paula

James Buchanan had a higher percentage! Who even remembers James Buchanan. Trump is an idiot.

      • David Walker

We should never assume that Buchanan was gay. But with all those “nephews” running around the White House, it’s probably a safe way to bet.

    • Bad Tom

      There are worse Presidents!

  • bkmn

Cool, we get a before and after pic when they retake this pic in prison garb.

  • FAEN

Not a landslide, it was never a landslide you fucking moron.

Also you just got your gigantic orange ass kicked all over the country yesterday. Or did you suddenly forget that.

    Again, you’re a fucking moron!

    • Boss Dave

He has to relive the one good thing he’s ever done (sorta) on his own. The rest of his life is “did you hear I was born into a rich family?”.

    • j.martindale

In his topsy-turvey world, coming in second by three million votes is a landslide.

    • kirby7771

I doubt he has much awareness all of the losses. Fox News didn’t cover it all that well. But I hear they did explore the difference between powdered garlic and garlic salt. So that’s a thing he knows now.

    • The only post-War Republicans to get a lower percentage of electoral votes were Nixon (1968) and Bush 43 (both times). And the only Democrat to do so was Carter (1976). Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon (second time), Reagan, Bush 41, Clinton, and Obama all had a higher percentage of the electoral vote, and of course they won the popular vote as well. Not a landslide by any interpretation.

    • Rambie

No it was their fault for not fully embracing Trump enough.

    • Snarkaholic

      More like a mudslide.

  • Tatonka

Congratulations back to Donald for breaking all records for being the most loathed president in modern history at this point in his administration. Here’s hoping you remain a ward of the state for the rest of your wicked life.

    • Robert Schaaf

I wouldn’t qualify it with “modern history”. Considering today’s US population, that’s a whole lot of loathing. I’m happy to contribute my part.

      • Bad Tom

        No, not “modern history.”
“Since the invention of polling,” however, is 100% accurate.

    • Most loathed, most first year firings and resignations, most indictments, only first year special counsel investigation, and so many other records!

      • Falconlights

He’s just breaking all kinds of records, isn’t he? Well, let’s throw in one more– Dumbest. President. Ever.

    • I agree with you — Democrats should not make Russiagate the #1 issue. I would not insult swing Trump voters. I agree with Michael Moore. He called the election beforehand. I think that former manufacturing workers in the “rust belt” in Western Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa — and the gulf coast of Florida (where they go to retire) elected Trump. This is the “rust belt” They voted Democratic before — and lost jobs and status. They have been hammered by the new economy. These people are not particularly religious, many are, but as Michael Moore says — just threw lighter fluid into the system and voted for Trump and gave everyone a big finger in 2016. They are coming home now. It is incredible that the Democrats lost Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin in 2016 ( Florida just follows the USA in average, it is the most predictable state right now). But I don’t think these people are Christofascist. They just feel screwed over by NAFTA and the new economy and the lost of their union manufacturing jobs. Go to greater Detroit — you can see it.

  • Yalma Cuder-Zicci

No. The parade in Moscow was for the 76th anniversary of a march that was the 24th anniversary of the revolution. 1941, when Stalin ordered a general mobilization, all the soldiers were then shipped to the eastern front.

  • Steven B

The people who he should thank are the members of the Electoral College who FAILED to do their jobs and protect us from just such a tragedy. I learned in HS that the EC was conceived as a buffer between the voters and a dangerous candidate. That idea failed miserably.

    • Chucktech

Sounds so quaint now, doesn’t it?

      • Steven B

Maybe. But we still have the Electoral College and it continues to have outlived it’s usefullness. And, quaint or not, it’s still partly to blame for the mess we’re in.

    • Falconlights

Sure failed us when we needed them most to do the right thing.

  • D. J.

Wonder how many of those people pictured will be walking around freely in a few years?

    • I’ll make a prediction. When Trump leaves office, voluntarily or otherwise, everyone will be pardoned. It depends on how well the DA’s of New York State, New York County (Manhattan), and other jurisdictions not affected by a Trump pardon can press their cases.

      • Treant

I tend to agree. In the interest of “Moving On,” Pence or Ryan will pardon everybody before them.

State charges may or may not be pressed depending on whether threats of, “Nice Federal funding you got there, be a pity if it got lost for a year” work.

        • And also let’s say, hypothetically, the Manhattan DA issues an arrest warrant for Trump Junior who is living in Florida. Who is going to enforce it? They could seize his real estate assets, but let’s get realistic. When you talk about compelling an ex President or his immediate family to appear in a state or county courtroom after a pardon, if they do not want to go, it ain’t gonna happen.

          • Boreal

Schneiderman got tRump to pay $25 million for the tRump U fraud. He will go after the tRumps.

  • The_Wretched

    Let’s just pretend 2017 elections were 2016?!

At least it matches the Faux News coverage.

  • Publius

Yes, congratulations to the 304 of 538 electors who chose Donald Trump, for having no moral compass.

    • In refusing to do the ONE THING they had a Constitutional right and duty to do—namely to refuse the Presidency to an obvious unfit madman—the Electoral College collectively proved it serves no legitimate democratic purpose.

      • Publius

The Electoral College was created exactly for the purpose of being a check on a country in the middle of a populist fit, so that it doesn’t choose demagogues to lead it. Those electors failed us all.

        • Agreed. I also wish a long time ago for those state laws requiring an elector to remain ‘faithful’ to be struck down as manifestly unconstitutional, especially those which made disobeying an actual crime.

        • The Electoral College also exists as a compromise to form the USA. The thought was that by giving each of the 13 original states 2 votes for each Senator and a vote for each House Seat, the larger population states would not outpower the smaller states when the Constitution was written. Paradoxically, the smaller states actually have very little power right now — it is the larger swing states like Florida and Ohio that consume much of the candidate’s time and money in our current electoral system.

          • Publius

            Yeah, definitely.

(Let me geek out for a sec with some polisci deep thoughts)

And that’s also a very common concern we hear from smaller, red states, this idea that bigger states will overpower them. But what we’ve seen over 200 years with the growth of this country is that even though states are small, doesn’t mean they are underrepresented. Many small states with similar economic policies, demographics, and values group together to form blocs. For example, a state like Idaho is insignificant electorally on its own, but taking into consideration the fact that it’s not unlike the states around it, together with other states its interests are represented.

And it’s obvious in cases like 2016. Those small states did band together. A bloc of states with a bunch of Dakotas and Wyomings and Alabamas were represented to the extent that they won the election. So, this idea that small states don’t stand a chance doesn’t really withstand scrutiny. If anything, the bigger problem is large states are not represented as much as they deserve. Wyoming has one senator for every 300,000 people and California has one for 20,000,000. That’s fucked.

It makes me ill seeing him aboard AF 1, and what causes the cookies to toss is seeing him with the Presidential Seal in the same frame. As for the landslide, nobody should use that word when they got the gig, but lost the popular vote by 3 million.

    • Friday

Republicans in general cal it a ‘landslide’ if it came down to tossing out hanging chads, even. 🙂

      • Talisman

Or the SCOTUS intervening in defiance of the Constitution.

      • -M-

Yes. They claim to have a mandate to pursue their most extreme agenda full tilt no matter how narrow or questionable the win.

  • OdieDenCO

good job donny! remind all the people that held their nose and voted for you just because you had a r behind you name what they fell for. One can hope American’s sense of smell over powers their sense of tribe in the next election as much as if not more as in this just past election.

  • pch1013

    Superlatives are fun!

2012 – Obama wins “stupendously tremendous” 332 electoral votes
    2008 – Obama wins “bowel-shatteringly magnificent” 365 electoral votes

  • Billy Green

Deplorable people never realize why (or even that) people think they’re deplorable.

    • andrew

Hillary and many of her supporters have admitted that using the word deplorables was a big mistake. In an election where you are seeking voters support, instead of calling them names, you must constantly point out how your policies are better for them than your opponent’s policies. The use of that word alone probably caused her to lose the election in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pa, by a combined total of fewer than 80,000 votes. It may not be a stretch to say that the word “deplorables” is the reason that Hillary is not in the Oval Office.

      • Billy Green

Oh, it was a YUGE mistake. In part because it was nearly universally interpreted to mean “Anyone who supports DJT is deplorable.” The message was supposed to be “He has some truly deplorable followers/supporters,” meaning that racists, white supremacists, etc., saw DJT as supporting their own agenda. And the truth of that message is even more obvious now than it was when she said it. The people she was talking about feel empowered now.

        • Opinion Sousaphones

I suppose it was a big mistake, tactically, but it was also the truth. It is absolutely true that anybody who supported Trump had supported a truly depraved excuse for a human being. If you supported him, how are you not also depraved? It is not as if he hid his depravity. I have met a few Trump supporters, personally, not many, perhaps, but they are not entirely rare in NM, and they were, every single one of them, absolutely every bit as bigoted and hateful and ignorant as Trump, just without the money. As a politician, one needs to be diplomatic about it, not say it. Still, it is the truth, and we should not forget it. There are no good Nazis.

          • JAKvirginia

All of the above is meaningless when 66 – 67 million can’t be bothered to vote. Y’know?

  • OdieDenCO

OT: but close. Denver county voted on a 8 infrastructure bond measures covering mass transit, roads, cultural venues and libraries. All 8 passed. the odd thing about the results were all 8 passed with around a 70/30 percentage. or in other words decent people v deplorables

  • SFBruce

No, Donnie, it wasn’t a “massive” win. You won in the electoral college because you eked out slim majorities in Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, a mere 77,744 votes. And we all know that you lost the popular vote by 2.8 million votes. That would be more than 35 times the number of votes by which you “won.” You might be surprised that some of us can do simple math, and still care about facts.

all the idiots above will be GOING TO JAIL in the not too distant future! bwhahahahaha! and dump…YOU DID NOT WIN THE ELECTION, HILLARY CLINTON DID!

  • andrew

His “massive” Electoral College victory was brought about by fewer than a combined total of 80,000 people choosing him over Hillary in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.

    • Friday

And still more not allowed to vote.

      • -M-

Not to mention suspicious problems at select polling places that discouraged still more. Or the likely vote tampering by Republicans and or Russia.

And fwiw, several of the electors had conflicts of interest or didn’t meet their state’s requirements.

        This!

Who wants to bet me that Trump is fucking Hope Hicks in the Lincoln Bedroom?

    • ChrisMorley

This sounds wildly improbable for someone across the Pacific, who depends on a strap-on.

Rude Pundit is unimpressed with Doorknob’s trip so far.

    Rudy’s lede:

In about a day, President Donald Trump, that prickish Oompa-Loompa who pushes the kids into the chocolate, let loose with such a flurry of lies that it formed a kind of thick fog of bullshit. And by “lies,” I mean, “Shit that is demonstrably wrong used to deceive people.”

  • “Congratulations to all of the ‘DEPLORABLES'”

It’s so funny that they still think they’re being ironic.

  • Mike

Trump won because of a total of about seventy thousand in three states votes that tilted the electoral college in his favor. That’s some landslide, you bloated pig.

    • Gianni

He feels righteously elected because he so totally ignores the optics of the huge loss in the popular vote. Voters overwhelmingly chose Hillary to be President.

Again with the “MASSIVE Landslide Victory”. Someone needs to print up a poster board in MASSIVE letters pointing out to the dimwit that it wasn’t a massive landslide of a victory, that it’s mostly all in his head just like the “largest ever inauguration turnout” despite the photos that prove otherwise.
