Landscaping Dispute Behind Assault On Rand Paul

The New York Times reports:

The violent altercation last week that left Senator Rand Paul nursing bruised lungs and broken ribs began over a landscaping dispute between the senator and his longtime next-door neighbor, according to neighbors and three Kentucky Republicans familiar with what transpired.

The precise provenance of the dispute was still a matter of disagreement on Monday. But the back story of the fracas began to come into focus and with it, the realization that Mr. Paul’s injuries could keep him from Washington, where Republicans in the Senate hold only a slim majority, for some time.

Mr. Paul had just stepped off a riding lawn mower on Friday when Rene Boucher, a retired anesthesiologist who lived next door, charged and tackled him. Because Mr. Paul was wearing sound-muting earmuffs, he did not realize Mr. Boucher was coming, according to one of the Kentucky Republicans and a friend familiar with the altercation.

Paul has five broken ribs and was said to have trouble breathing after the attack. Felony charges against the neighbor are expected.

  • Gayer Than Thou

Well, I think we all know how queens can get when it comes to their landscaping.

    • TuuxKabin

      Especially of their rugs.

    • Todd20036

Meh. I just get waxed. Yup. There too.

Someone posted that yesterday. Needs one of those 5Gal barrels of lube next to it. LOL

  • Macbill

More White on White crime. Sad. When are white cultural leaders going to denounce this sort of violence?

    • Todd20036

That’s the crux of the matter.
If this were one black man attacking another, the haters would use it as an excuse to crack down on BLM. Seriously.
But if a white ex soldier shoots up a bunch of church goers, it gets a collective shrug.
      So why should this matter?
Or it could also just be that no one likes Rand Paul anyway

      • Nowhereman

And the Las Vegas shooter was a Trump supporter. We don’t hear much about that, do we…

    • Gustav2

      THUGS!

      • ceeenbee

It is sad, and yet our fake president can not say the words “radical angry, white, affluent neighbor” when describing the threat to society these people pose.

    • Gay Fordham Prep Grad

I think it was a kinky SM session gone wrong when Rand forgot his safe word.

And where are the parents who raised these misbehaving violent kids?

      • clay

        Texas.

    • jerry

What, they have to make up an excuse for someone beating Rand Paul now? I’m afraid his long history of assholism would place him in constant jeopardy if he were my neighbor.

  • licuado de platano

Trim that nappy bush you poopy head.

    • TuuxKabin

I like the way you roll ’em.

  • jayjonson

I know Paul must be happy that his neighbor did not come after him with a gun, but he will still oppose any gun restrictions. So will Steve Scalise, who was shot in Virginia last year. These guys are men of honor. When they sell out to the NRA, they stay bought.

    • Buford

If Paul has any honor at all, he’ll ensure that the neighbor is not charged with assaulting a Senator. This was not an attack… they got into a fight, neighbor-vs-neighbor.

      • John30013

Well it *was* assault, but it had nothing to do with Paul’s position as a Senator.

        • Buford

I don’t think getting into a scuffle and getting your ass kicked is assault. Assault suggests that an aggressor attacks a passive victim. I’m not convinced that’s what happened here. Paul was a participant in this fight… he just got lawn-stomped.

          • John30013

            Legally, it is.

          • Buford

Maybe… but it’s pretty lame to claim you were assaulted because you lost the fight in which you actively participated.

          • John30013

The article said the neighbor attacked Paul while Paul was wearing hearing protection (i.e., the neighbor snuck up on him). That’s not my definition of “participating”, and any actions Paul took after that would likely be considered self defense.

          • Buford

            Not buying that story.

  • Gustav2

This is what happens when you try to use your backyard for “Grow you own wig.”

      • Leo

    • Todd20036

I’m sure it is, but on the other hand, it’s Rand Paul.

    • Rambie

The only thing I’ve seen like this is when a neighbor down the block from my parents put in a new fence inside the property line of another neighbor. The two nearly went to fits.

  • Leo

OT2. CBS This Morning just eliminated Brazile’s sliver of remaining credibility.

    • TuuxKabin

      Do tell.

      • Leo

Gayle and Norah literally called her out on every major point she’s raised in interviews and she couldn’t answer to any of them. They pounced and weren’t haven’t it. It was all backtracking. I can’t do it justice by going through point to point. It’s everything we’ve discussed the last few days on this board.

        • TuuxKabin

Thanks. I’ll look for some coverage.Good. Hope she’s a smokin’ mess, goin’ down in flames.

          • Leo

I just saw that video yesterday–Wow. I think she even called the home owners “fuckin lezzies”. We used to have a woman much like her who would come into the hardware store that I worked at and then go bonkers. We had to 86 her. She was always screaming “You just hate me because I’m a rich beatch!” She drove a bright turquoise chevy cavalier with a permanent for sale sign on it.

  • TuuxKabin

Oh, that’s what they’re calling it now.

  • David J

Too bad, the Randy guy doesn’t have any health care insurance to pay those medical bills he will be facing ….oh wait, all U.S. Senators and House members have Cadillac gold insurance we pay for?…never mind !

  • Bambino

Didn’t an article speculate the dispute was was over a healthcare issue? Way to politicized his mishap.

  • safari

Someone was playing in the wrong bushes.

  • Anastasia Beaverhousen

“I told you to quit wearing my mulch on your head, Rand!”

  • Bambino

    Ban merkin wearers from landscaping!

  • Acronym Jim

Rand Paul mows his own lawn?

    • TuuxKabin

      Well, not his rug.

    • Tor

Sure. He also cuts his own hair.

      • Acronym Jim

If that’s the case, why is he using a lawn mower on Astroturf?

      • David J

        LOL

      • UrsusArctos 🐻

Why not? It’s easy enough to pin it onto a head dummy, “style” it, and glue it back on.

    • clay

yeah, but he does it in tube socks, short shorts, and a wife beater.

    • Ernest Endevor

I know. I was shocked, too. I mean, he can’t hire a Mexican lawn-care specialist like the rest of us?

    • OdieDenCO

now don’t be jumping to conclusions. the report said he had just stepped off a riding mower. could have been a photo op.

Every neighborhood has a crazy neighbor, in their neighborhood it just happens to be Rand Paul.

  • Ernest Endevor

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. Fingers crossed this does not keep him too long from DC. That would be tragic.

  • Macbill

Why hasn’t Franklin Graham denounced White-on-White violence?

    • Tawreos

because many of his enemies are white and he doesn’t want to tie his own hands.

    • M Jackson

      No grift there.

      • clay

That’s odd, I don’t remember living next to you.

  • Tawreos

Felony charges? Shouldn’t it just be a 15 yard penalty automatic 1st down and possible ejection for blindsiding/unnecessary roughness?

    • safari

      Cannons at dawn?

  • Leo
  • Buford

Please. Paul wasn’t assaulted or attacked. He got his ass kicked… the big difference being he wasn’t a passive victim here. He and his neighbor have known each other for 17 yrs… there’s history there… so suggesting that the neighbor ‘attacked’ him suddenly is simply not credible. They almost certainly got into a confrontation and Paul got the worst of it, most likely via being kicked while on the ground.

I’m not condoning the violence. We just need to characterize this situation accurately.

    • Vinnie NYC

As I heard growing up “Opened a can of whip ass”

      • Buford

        Paul got yard-stomped.

  • AdamTh

Is it wrong not to feel bad for that POS?

    • Dot Beech

Not at all. Imagine trying to resolve even a routine dispute with that smug son-of-a-bitch as your neighbor. He is lucky he was merely tackled and not shot or clubbed in the head.

      • TuuxKabin

        Either or all would do

    • stuckinthewoods

You could make up for that by meditating on the incidence of pneumonia after breaking so many ribs.

I’m not a bridge player, but I think I’d be able to win against Gillespie supporters.

Netflix subscribers target of ‘relatively well-designed’ email scam

An email scam targeting Netflix users aims to gather personal information from the streaming service’s 110 million subscribers.

The suspicious emails tell recipients that their Netflix billing information needs updating and takes them to a fake Netflix website. There they are asked to log in and enter information including credit card numbers.

The scam emails are “relatively well-designed,” said Australian cyber security firm MailGuard in a blog post which noted the emails began targeting email accounts Friday. “Of course, this website is completely bogus and is just a mechanism for the scammers to steal the victim’s identity and credit card information.”

“Because Mr. Paul was wearing sound-muting earmuffs, he did not realize
Mr. Boucher was coming, according to one of the Kentucky Republicans and

  • Lars Littlefield

Paul’s attacker needs to be careful. I heard on the news last night that the woman who posted a photo of herself flipping the middle finger at Trump has been high-fived to death.

  • Mike in Texas

A radio report this morning said the dispute was over “yard waste.” I wonder if Rand Paul allowed clippings to be blown into the neighbor’s yard. LOL In any event, he didn’t deserve 5 broken ribs for it.

  • iambu

Was he polishing his statue with a shammy?

  • RhettStone

This is all too funny. BG is my hometown. I hit some people up to ask what the deal was. They all said a fight over the yard. Meanwhile, the far right is acting like it is some Antifa attack. Rand lives in one of, if not the, nicest neighborhoods in town. Gated.

  • William

Did Paul do something to make his injuries more serious? Being tackled shouldn’t break five ribs.

    • The_Wretched
