Sen. Rand Paul Assaulted By Neighbor

USA Today reports:

Police say they’ve arrested a man who intentionally assaulted U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, causing a minor injury. Rene Boucher, 59, of Bowling Green, is charged with one count of fourth-degree assault and is being held in the Warren County Detention Center, according to a news release from Kentucky State Police.

Police responded to a report of an assault at Paul’s Warren County, Ky., residence just before 3:30 p.m. Friday. They determined Boucher had intentionally assaulted the junior senator, according to the release. It was not immediately clear what injury Paul suffered.

Boucher is reportedly Paul’s next door neighbor.

Right after I got out of the Navy, I was doing a friend a favor while his warehouseman was in the hospital. I was on a forklift one Saturday afternoon when a well dressed lady who I’d never seen before walked in and demanded I get something off a shelf for her. A shelf that had just been blocked by a recent delivery. I told her I would, just as soon as I could get to it. She got upset told me she didn’t have time to wait and when I still tried to point out the shelf was currently blocked, she asked “Do you know who I am”? At that point I just said “No but I know who you ain’t. You ain’t the person who signs my paychecks”. She stormed into the office and must have left by the front door because I never saw her again. She turned out to be the regional manager of our biggest customer but my boss/friend thought it was hilarious that somebody finally told the bitch off in a way that wouldn’t boomerang back on him. Hey, he couldn’t fire me, I was doing him a FAVOR and wasn’t an official employee.

There’s more! It’s worse than originally thought. He has 5 cracked ribs according to The Hill Newspaper:
      https://www.rollcall.com/news/politics/rand-paul-fractured-ribs/?utm_source=just-in&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=newsletters

Sen. Rand Paul’s injuries in the aftermath of Friday’s assault at his home in Kentucky appears to be much more serious than first thought.

      “Senator
Paul has five rib fractures including 3 displaced fractures. This type
of injury is caused by high velocity severe force,” Doug Stafford, a
senior adviser to the Kentucky Republican, said in a statement. “It is
not clear exactly how soon he will return to work, as the pain is
considerable as is the difficulty in getting around, including flying.”The
assault, which took place Friday in Bowling Green, Kentucky, led to the
arrest of a neighbor of the senator, 59 year-old Rene Boucher, who
appears to be an inactive physician with a specialty in anesthesiology.

While Paul originally was said to be doing “fine”
after the attack in Bowling Green, the situation seemed much more
complicated as of Sunday evening when Stafford provided an update on the
      senator’s prognosis.

“Displaced rib fractures can lead to
life-threatening injuries such as: hemopneumothorax, pneumothorax,
pneumonia, internal bleeding, laceration of internal organs and lung
contusions. Senator Paul does have lung contusions currently,” Stafford
explained. “This type of injury is also accompanied by severe pain that
      can last weeks to months.”

      The Associated Press reported
on Paul’s condition Sunday evening. His potential absence from the
Senate may need to be factored in to scheduling decisions for the
      foreseeable future.

“Senator Paul and Kelley appreciate everyone’s
thoughts and well wishes and he will be back fighting for liberty in
      the Senate soon,” Stafford said.

‘Boucher is a Bowling Green anesthesiologist and pain specialist who developed a product called Therm-a-Vest, a cloth vest partially filled with rice and secured by Velcro straps that is designed to relieve back pain by delivering heat directly to the areas of the back where most pain is felt.

Boucher applied for a patent for the vest in 2003 and has marketed it through the QVC shopping channel.’

‘The arrest warrant in the case indicates that Paul told police his neighbor came onto his property and tackled him from behind, forcing him to the ground and causing pain. According to the warrant, Paul had injuries to his face and had trouble breathing due to a rib injury.’

      • stuckinthewoods

    • Ross

One night, as I was laying in bed reading, one of my cats hopped up from the floor, and dropped a crumpled Post-It note before me.

Without thinking, I tossed the note onto the floor.

She LEAPT to the floor, and with alacrity reappeared with the note in her mouth. She dropped it in front of me.

Ahhhh! I get it! I threw it to the far side of the room.

A moment later the note was, again, dropped in front of me, and the emerald eyes were expectant.

Well…for many years we played this game.

      Which she taught me.

      • Adam King

My cats loved nothing better than wadded up paper balls.

        • marachne

My Emma loved pipe cleaners. I’d make a ring with it and play fetch. Easy for her to pick up and weight made tossing very satisfying

          • Bomer

My cat Pyewacket’s favorite toys were pipe cleaners. I would have to twist them in to a ball and then he would play fetch for hours. He’ll still play fetch until one of the other cats shows up, then he gets pissed and goes and flops somewhere.

      • Steverino

We had a neighbor’s cat who used to like to hang out with us. He loved Christmastime, as he would swat the stick-on bows off of the presents under the tree, and then swat them all over around the house. We would pick them up and toss them to the other side of the room, and he would fetch them and drop them at our feet, just like a dog!

      • houstonray

My sweet cat did the same thing. One night I found his favorite squeaky toy on the bed. I was reading and I just casually tossed it in the other room. He woke up, ran and got it, and carried it back into the bedroom and dropped it next to me. I threw it again and he chased it, retrieved it and was ready for more. I’d like to say I taught him but I’m pretty sure he taught me.

The funny thing is usually we would do it for a good 8 or 9 throws and then he’d go after it and never come back. He would be sleeping on the floor next to it.

My sweet Sydney. He lived to 19. A good long life. I hope if there is an afterlife, we get to see our pets again. I miss him. We have two more but there will always be a special place in my heart for him.

      • greenmanTN

With an older cat it was our night time ritual. I’d take off my socks and roll them into a ball…

I wouldn’t bet on that. Her father publicly announced hiring him as a Breitbart editor was a major mistake and he’s the person responsible for firing him. He mentioned this during his resignation speech from Twinkie Analytics — or whatever it’s called. And he’s made it embarrassingly public for little Milo that the Mercer’s are no longer offering any kind of financial support. Little Milo has also had another contract offer from a different group suddenly cancelled. If he can’t remain employed as a political douche bag he’ll most likely lose his visa and be deported. Oh, happy day!

I refuse to believe there could possibly be a connection. Jared couldn’t physically lift a suitcase filled with that much… anything.

    • EdA

Our “good friends and allies,” the Saudis, the people who funded the 9/11 terrorists, the “foreign fighters” whom they supported to kill American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, and anti-Western madrassas throughout the world, also known as the world’s most significant supporter of state-sponsored terrorism, want to sell off 5% of its national oil company, Aramco, the largest oil producer in the world. Benedict Trump wants the process of that sale to take place on the New York Stock Exchange, instead of on the London Stock Exchange. When Trump says it’s important to the U.S., he really means that it’s important to the Wall Street bankers, like Treasury Secretary Munchkin, who pay too much in taxes, he says, and whom, therefore, those of us who do productive work have to subsidize.

    OT: It’s weird.

    https://finance.yahoo.com/news/ap-finds-hackers-hijacked-least-161340556.html

WASHINGTON (AP) — Four years ago, well before the furor over allegations
Moscow meddled in the 2016 election that put Donald Trump in the White
House, at least 195 web addresses belonging to Trump, his family or his
business empire were hijacked by hackers possibly operating out of
Russia, The Associated Press has learned.

    • SoCalGal20

David Corn and A.J. Vicens posted this story on Mother Jones two days ago. AP basically stole this story from them. Also, if you read the Mother Jones story, Trump Org started shutting down those domains AFTER Mother Jones reported on it.

Who knows?! The fact that they point to Russia and they didn’t shut them down back when they had customer credit card info stolen says they at the very least willfully negligent.

Mike Farb was also early with this. The first article may have grown out of their discovery.

        • SoCalGal20

Yeah, I’m not sure when Mike Farb started his research or what prompted him to start but you are correct. I actually posted a link to a thread he posted a day before the Mother Jones article went up. In the Mother Jones article they say they were tipped off by a source a couple of weeks ago. Also, there had been somebody who had posted a document on the web listing all the subdomains. I think they were trying to crowdsource info about them or something.

          • -M-

Farb said one of the sources acknowledged in the article was their guy. And I first saw the discussion of the sub domains in one of his threads. ¯_(ツ)_/¯ But I don’t fully trust anyone, especially if they’re saying something I want to hear.

To be honest, whichever party is in power and has the opportunity to gerrymander will do so.

I live in Maryland – one of the most gerrymandered states in the union. Glad to say, though, gerrymandered by the Democrats. Anyone who wants/needs a good laugh should google-image “Maryland congressional districts.”

      An absolute laugh riot.

      • BobSF_94117

That’s just not true. Maryland is an exception. Most Dem-controlled states are not gerrymandered like Maryland is. Many of them have adopted neutral processes for redistricting. Dems care about ethics. Republicans (and Maryland Dems apparently) don’t.

        • another_steve

OT: It’s a long read but it’s worth seeing how social media + the web can be manipulated to be disingenuous marketing schemes. It also shows the immaturity and lack of due diligence Zucky exhibits on a seemingly hourly basis.

Popular publications covering addiction double as marketing operations for treatment centers”

“According to an investigation by The Verge, several popular publications covering addiction and treatment double as marketing operations for treatment centers. Rehab Reviews and The Fix are controlled by Cliffside Malibu founder Richard Taite, while Addiction Unscripted — a group promoted by Mark Zuckerberg this summer for its use of Facebook — is owned and staffed by the CEO and marketers of Windward Way, a treatment center in Costa Mesa, California.”

So he had the nerve to grope the kid while the dad was in the same room? I assume Richard didn’t see it.

      • SoCalGal20

As Harry Dreyfuss’s piece in Buzzfeed says his dad was focused on studying a script at the time so he was in the same room but didn’t see what happened. The fact that Spacey had the audacity to grope this kid while his dad was in the same room adds to the grossness factor of the whole situation. Btw if you have not read the story Harry is a good writer and touches on other aspects of this incident like how he spun it into a funny story to tell at parties so he had some control over it.

Well, yes, but who does she think will buy the book? I was mildly curious to read it but not now.

    • DB did not write the book. It is obvious. What is even more appalling is that she appears surprised by the contents and is now trying to walk it back. “King Salman’s journey to Moscow, ahead of planned talks with President Donald Trump in Washington early next year, is a recognition by Riyadh of the changing political balance in the Middle East after Putin successfully countered indecisive U.S. efforts to topple Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad. The Saudi courtship of Russia also reflects a convergence of interests between the world’s two largest oil exporters as output cuts negotiated by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and non-OPEC producers has spurred a recovery in crude prices.”

    • SoCalGal20

Pretty! I know it shouldn’t be blooming anymore but still!

I love roses. What variety is that?

      • Treant

Double Knockout Red. They’re famous for being early and late bloomers, but never less than three weeks after last frost and never after first frost.

It indicates that both roses (I have a Sunny Yellow Knockout as well) haven’t gotten cold enough yet.

        • SoCalGal20

Ooh very nice! We inherited rose bushes at the house in Pasadena. I’d never had roses before because I’d heard they were difficult and seemed like a lot of work. Not so much! Maybe because these had been there for so long but aside from cutting them back some and trying to keep the aphids off (a losing battle – ugh) they were pretty low maintenance. The aphids, though. UGH.

          • Dreaming Vertebrate

In the spring, you can buy a bag of lady bugs that arrive by UPS. Those aphids will be gone in no time.

          • SoCalGal20

Well, I tried that with limited success. The problem is the fucking ants farm them and the ants are everywhere. CA is basically one big Argentine ant supercolony. (Though I’ll take them over fire ants any day). Anyway, no roses for me at the current place. And when I get to Las Vegas it will be succulents.

          • Dreaming Vertebrate

The ants protect the aphids from the lady bugs?

          • SoCalGal20

The ants don’t protect the aphids from the ladybugs I suppose but the ladybugs don’t necessarily stay right there and there are lots of ants and lots of aphids. Had I devoted more time to IPM I might have had better results with the aphids but usually I’d just take the hose to them and that would beat them down for a bit.

          • Dreaming Vertebrate

Well, ants are pretty clever. I see them farming the aphids on my roses too.
The ants in Philly are mostly quite small and can’t do much against a determined lady bug, which are like miniature tanks. Might be bigger ants in California.

          • SoCalGal20

No, the ants are the small Argentine ants. But there are SO MANY and the ladybugs may just do whatever they want but they don’t necessarily do what I want them to lol.

          • Dreaming Vertebrate

I generally view ants as good garden friends. They are great at aerating the soil and carry compost deep underground near the roots. It’s their friends, the aphids, which are the real scourge.

          • SoCalGal20

            Exactly.

          • Moebym of the Returners

Roses actually grow very well in this area, in my experience. Where I live, the previous owners left several large rose bushes, and they are all thriving after we started giving them deep waterings, pruning, and fertilizing them. (The key here is pruning.) We haven’t noticed any pests/diseases on them aside from a bit of fungus, which can probably be avoided by not getting water on the leaves.

Also, as for succulents, they will absolutely die from heat and sun exposure during Vegas summers, so they’ll need to be shielded from direct sunlight or (better yet) just moved inside when it’s 90+ outside. (It also gets cold enough in the dead of winter that they have to be moved inside as well.) I’ve lost many a succulent since I moved here for those reasons. Cacti fare better than other succulents where sun exposure is concerned.

          • SoCalGal20

Thanks. Well, whatever grows in LV will be what I’m doing lol.

We are in an artificially inflated bubble – the crash will be HUGE

      • LosFelizGuy

Are there any types of investments that fair better than others during a “crash”? Or is that a question for the crystal ball?

        • 1. Have no consumer debt or as little as possible.
          2. Short-term bonds and cash savings.
          3. NO high-risk or ‘aggressive-growth’ mutual funds, index funds even during a crash are still better than most other choices because they do recover, but it takes a lot of patience.
          4. Owning your own live-in home is still one of the best investments out there, provided you avoid sub-prime mortgages.

I realized quite a while ago that there’s something seriously wrong with the diehard Trump fans.

However, I do think his approval ratings can still go lower, maybe into the 20s. But a certain percentage is going to still approve of him no matter what he does. Like Bill Maher said, he could drop his pants and take a crap on his desk on live TV and they would say it’s “very presidential.”

        • Don’t know if you’re old enough to remember, but people were that way about Nixon, too. For most of a decade after his resignation, I’d still run into people who thought he’d been run out on a political coup.

        THIS.

      • Actually, that’s supposed to be a hallmark feature of the actual Antichrist, according to the apocrypha and the Book of Revelations. He’s supposed to be a charismatic figure (okay, gotta cut some slack on this one…but he did run as a lying populist, promising his peeps literally everything they could ever want), who will be evil incarnate and a complete apostate. Yet his followers will treat him as if he is the 2nd coming of Christ himself, and he’ll encourage people to be evil and to worship him.

      • AmeriCanadian

Going to see it this afternoon. I’ll report back. 😉

    • Ninja0980

Hubby will drag me to see it anyway.

    • I’ve been saying this for years: The BEST DC comics-based movie will still always be worse than the worst Marvel one.

They just don’t know how to do it, but a big chunk of it comes from the flaws inherent in DC’s superheroes: Nobody can relate to them. They’re all inhuman in crucial ways, basically demigods. Closest they ever get to relate-able is Batman (hence why the keep remaking him over and over again), but his ‘superpower’ is his insane wealth.

Marvel on the other hand usually starts with ordinary humans, then gives them powers, and the powers themselves cause problems. Hence why they’ve had way more successes than failures.

      • BTW, from a superhero standpoint, Thor is one of Marvel’s weakest characters. Because he’s a demigod.

I’d still do Chris Hemsworth in a New York minute though. He’s hotter than hell.

        • Lazycrockett

The worse thing bout the Thor movies is Natalie refuses to be in one, thus we lose one of the best characters. Darcy Lewis.

          • Mikey

            Aru?
            Natalie Portman plays Jane Foster.
            Kat Dennings plays Darcy.

I absolutely loved the first Thor movie, it was so theatrical (as in theatre stage), and that scene with Loki hanging on to the staff at the end, then falling away! Oy, I get shivers and tears every time.

      • Lazycrockett

Man of Steel I got through, but man Supe Vs Bat was just awful I didn’t even finish watching it on my computer. WW was alright but it wasn’t anything amazing. JL looks like a complete trainwreck specially with Joss coming in and doing reshoots.

      • JCF

I can’t disagree more. Marvel joke-a-minute “heroes” have no interest for me (after the first few ones I saw). I like my heroes to be HEROES, dammit. I want them to bear the weight-of-the-world. That doesn’t mean there can’t be humor, but they should always take their mission seriously. DC for me!

        • Fair enough, we can disagree, friend.

        • Lazycrockett

I find the whole DC murderverse to take away a lot of the hero part.

          • JCF

Murderverse? You mean Batman’s enemies? [I watched “Gotham” the first couple of seasons, but the relentless focus on villains was just depressing.]

        • JCF

Maybe because it’s “only TV”…but this is what I’m talking about: the final scene of S2 of “Supergirl”. Yeah, she’s “godlike” in power (they’re exploring the negative ramifications of that in S3! Fascinating), but she can’t solve every problem—and it actually hurts her, emotionally. THIS is a hero! [And yeah, it doesn’t hurt that Melissa Benoist is gorgeous ;-)]

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3qev1o7MH0

FYI: this isn’t a music video, the show actually used this PERFECT song by La Idina, to close the ep…

          • Lazycrockett
          • JCF

TBH, I thought the cross-over musical ep was only OK. No threat to either XWP’s “Bitter Suite” or BTVS’s “Once More With Feeling.” In both those classic eps, the musical serviced the plot, it wasn’t just thrown in there (“Hey, let’s do a musical ep!”)

          • Lazycrockett

I think its just hard to get these cross over episodes to work cause of the number of shows, actors, writers, directors and crew. Its amazing they work as well as they do.

      • greenmanTN

That’s why I never really liked DC. Superman is basically indestructible, the comics make it seems like he could throw the planet like a baseball if he wanted, so you can’t take any threats against him seriously and there’s no suspense in that. Batman is OK but until Frank Miller was pretty cheesy. I liked Wonder Woman, but then I’m gay, so duh! 😉

      • JCF

Depends on how they make them. I’m not defending every DC movie ever made, but the few minutes in (Christopher Reeve, to me, the original and forever) “Superman” where he makes the world spin backwards (go with it!) to undo Lois’s death, is better than anything I ever have, or likely ever will, see in any Marvel film. Blech, why do I keep putting myself through these things? Because someone—critics/”Tomatoes” I profoundly disagree with—said it was good? Your Iron Man, your “Dr Strange”? Your Avengers? All of them crap. The only Marvel films I really liked was Tobey Maguire’s Spiderman movies (esp the 2nd one). Oh, and the first couple of X-Men. But that’s it.

Maybe Justice League will suck, maybe it won’t. But I trust it will hold my interest, as characters. [As Superman vs Batman mostly did—except when the fight scenes went on too long.]

        • Lazycrockett

really? wow SvB was one of the worse movies I’ve seen in the last couple of years and Im not anti DC. I love the tv stuff.

          • JCF

Call ’em like I see ’em! [OK truthfully, the best part of SvB was, of course, the intro of WW!]

          • JCF

I’ll also admit that SvsB wasn’t nearly as good as its trailer—which was FANTASTIC. I remember the trailers from SvsB and “The Force Awakens” leaked just about the same day (from Comic Con, I assume). I was “Meh” re Star Trek, compared to that fantastic SvB trailer. I hate it when trailers are better than movies (probably the archtypical recent example was “Prometheus”: a much more extreme example than SvsB. Prometheus was a MESS, compared to its sensational trailer.)

        • Friday

That was actually such a serious disconnect. Who wrote that, the Flat Earth Society? Even when I was a kid I was like, “Spinning the planet backwards wouldn’t undo causality, just kill everyone and probably rip the crust off.” 🙂

        • clay

Uh, everybody knows he wasn’t spinning the earth backwards; that was just the filmmaker’s attempt at POV showing Supes going back through time. Physically, still stupid.

      • greenmanTN

Semi-related: I’ve been unpacking books. I remember my mom buying me this book from the Family Dollar bargain book bin. • JCF

Aw, that’s the original 1940’s WW, by “Professor Marston” (well, he didn’t draw her) himself! God I loved that movie: saw it 3 times (and it was only in Sacto for 2 weeks). Am pissed off it flopped. I hope it does much better on Netflix…

          • greenmanTN

All the stories inside are from the Marston era, Etta Candy and the Holliday College girls. Yeah WW gets tied up a LOT, but there are many scenes of her encouraging girls and women to find their own power, stand up to abusers, etc. I can see why it was radical at the time.

          • JCF

The whole point of WW getting tied up, was to BREAK FREE of her bonds! Stick-up-ass idiots, if they couldn’t see that…

          • Friday

I do want to see the new one, though, where there probably isn’t so much apology for her ripping some shit with leaf-blade sword and stuff. 🙂

          • Bomer

It’s a good movie. I saw it on opening day and bought the dvd. I thought they did pretty well with her. They didn’t dumb her down or make her dependent on a man, like when she flat out tells Steve that he doesn’t get to tell her what to do.

          • JCF

When I was a kid, somehow (through my older brother?) I got hold of a DC “collection” comic, that had a bunch reprints of older comics—-including a 1940s WW comic! <3 That was my intro to the character. FWIW, I didn't watch the 70s TV show [I know, there went my Lesbian ID Card. I don't know, I just couldn't take the camp. I watched the "serious" alternative, "Bionic Woman": hmmm, I sense a theme here. Xena (show of shows!): tortured anti-hero seeking redemption. Buffy: pressure of being "the Chosen One". I'm into drama! (and hot chicks kicking ass, of course). Throw in a lesbian relationship—Willow&Tara….and above all, Xena&Gabrielle!—and I'm good. 😉 ]

It gets worse. Pruitt wants to put into place an “ethics” rule that anyone who has a NSF, NIH, or other scientific grant from the US Gov. (to do things like pay grad research assistants), can’t sit on an advisory board. 1) the advisory boards aren’t the grantors and the double-blind grantors do a fairly good job. 2) there will be no such rule that industry folks, whose employers have contracts of FINES pending (let alone just general regulatory interests) won’t be similarly disqualified.

News from zheraland: Got my computer back. Techies claim it was the Firefox browser that caused everything. I am suspicious of this since it was not only Firefox that crashed, but all of them.

    We’ll see.

But as you can see I am still on my phone. That’s because when I hooked up the comp and started it, the keyboard is not working. I am so sick of all things computery!

    • DaddyRay

Glad to hear you got your computer back

    • TuuxKabin

Move over, let’s sit n’ sip n’ talk things computery.

The absolute first thought to pop into my head was “What did Paul do to deserve it.” ..because you know he’s an asshole and you know he did something asshole-ish and you know he deserved it.

O/T, goddamn daylight savings time. I normally wake early, now I’m up at 3:30 local time, instead of 4:30 which is a much more reasonable time to wake up.

    • gaycuckhubby

I did the same thing. Im on the East coast and got up at 4:30 ugghhh

      • Karl Dubhe

I’m way out west… 🙂 I should know better, this happens every year with me.

        • gaycuckhubby

I also have to work this morning so I stayed up. Its going to be a long day. Lol

          • Karl Dubhe

I’ll take a nap later, then go to bed early. 🙂

Hopefully, tomorrow I’ll be back to waking at ~5ish…

          • gaycuckhubby

Lol. My mind is in the gutter… i read that as “wanking at 5ish”
            Which honestly sounds more fun

          • Karl Dubhe

Well, I still do wake with morning wood… 🙂

          • AmeriCanadian

Always a pleasant surprise, unless it wakes you up in the middle of the night!

    • djcoastermark

Yep, count me in too as one of those ( Irritatedly) up too early now.

      • Karl Dubhe

I’ve made coffee, I’m up for the day. grrrrr…

        • BudClark

Belle, our terrier-Papillon mix, doesn’t reset like the clocks (chuckle). I was up at 4:30 a.m. with her.

          • Karl Dubhe

Fun, isn’t it. At least I can turn on the music now. Four hours after waking.

    • whollyfool

    • Dazzer

      It’s a good – very good – article.

      • SoCalGal20

It is! It reads like a damn spy novel! I just wish the good guys were winning at this point.

        • OdieDenCO

don’t rush the story. the protagonist is gathering all the suspects to the drawing room.

        • Ernest Endevor

I’m not going to be at all surprised to learn that before his death Ken Adam was employed by Putin to design a new ‘retreat’ in an undisclosed location.

    • Karl Dubhe

      Oh, damn…

Well, I knew the Tories weren’t going to last long as a government, but to go down for this?

They might reach Mulroony levels of defeat. (former Cdn PM, his government was reduced from a majority of 211/300 all the way down to 2. They were the first gender parity caucus in Parliamentary history; for every man, there was a woman. The CDN Tories should have been proud of that.)

    • Ernest Endevor

Terrific read. Especially the first. Some points are especially interesting. The City is less regulated than Wall Street which accounts for London’s central position. Once the UK leaves the EU she will be much more dependent on Russian money and London is now the most expensive city on earth (so I’ve read, certainly it’s shockingly expensive to a visitor who once lived there) with some of the most expensive real estate. The writer of the piece makes it clear that the UK govt is much less transparent and much less accountable than in the US. Much has been discovered there but nothing is being done. Whatever you think of US politics, as a nation our institutions are more open, and our press more aggressive.

      • SoCalGal20

Yes, the first is the really blockbuster article. I am very interested to see just how intertwined the Trump campaign players are with the Brexit players and all this other stuff going on in London. It was so WTF when Farage all of a sudden was on the campaign trail with Trump. WHAT?! Also, whatever became of Nigel’s rumored plans to move to the U.S.?

The books about this time will be a fascinting read if we manage to survive and some semblance of our democracy manages to survive.

    • Karl Dubhe

Ummm, OK. That’s really really bad.

Goddamn, we’re actually going to have to do something about Putin as well as Trump.

    • djcoastermark

Well that’s just a bright and cheery way to start my, I got up too dang early and now I’m grumpy day. Please let there be something more than 25 the 45 that can be done ?

Is the loyalty oath similar to this one?

      Service oath for public servants

“I swear: I will be faithful and obedient to the leader of the German Empire and people, Adolf Hitler, to observe the law, and to conscientiously fulfill my official duties, so help me God.”
