Senate Dems Demand Sessions Reinstate Trans Rights

The Hill reports:

Senate Democrats are demanding that the Justice Department reinstate discrimination protections for transgender individuals that Attorney General Jeff Sessions rolled back last month.

In a letter to Sessions dated Nov. 2 and signed by 44 Democratic and independent senators, the lawmakers write that Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964’s prohibition against sex discrimination applies to gender identity and that Sessions’ actions have put some of “the most vulnerable Americans” at risk of discrimination.

“Actions that roll back the rights of LGBTQ Americans are not consistent with the values of equality and dignity or with Congress’s goals in passing the Civil Rights Act,” the letter reads. Early last month, Sessions reversed the department’s policy on discrimination protection for transgender individuals, arguing that the Civil Rights Act does not encompass gender identity.

  • Joe in PA

“Actions that roll back the rights of LGBTQ Americans are not completely consistent with the values of equality and dignity or with Congress’s goals in passing the Civil Rights Act the Republican party.”

  • Leo

I don’t have the patience to look it up but there’s a case likely headed to the Supreme Court determining just this if someone can name it here.

Also, the trans community always saw his personal dispatch of a prosecutor to the Iowa murder case as paltry damage control. Any time they try to counter with that the Dems need to be ready with the apt response.

    • Karl Dubhe

Not even damage control. The person who murdered the trans person isn’t white.

      Had the murderer been white…

      • Leo

Ah well, there’s that too. Yeah…

  • gaycuckhubby

And I demand a pet unicorn! Harumph

    “Actions that roll back”

Come to think of it – Sessions really is a Walmart ‘rollback’ kind of guy…

Sessions is better suited as a Walmart greeter.

      • djcoastermark

And it would be another reason I don’t go to wallyland.

        • medaka

I went once. It was terrifying.

          • MusicBear88

I went while on the Florida panhandle (there was literally nowhere else to shop for about 30 miles). I had always questioned if that “People of Wal*Mart” blog was real or Photoshopped. I really, REALLY wish it was Photoshopped…

          • Stogiebear

Every time I’ve gone into a Walmart I end up saying to myself, “Damn. I should have had my phone out and the camera ready.” I guess if I went more often than about every 5 years I’d remember to be prepared.

        • Gretchen

I have discovered their curbside pickup option. You can place your order online the night before, and they will bring everything out and load it directly into your car. No interaction with the masses required. There are pretty limited options for purchasing everyday household goods where I live, so this has been a very nice option for me. Of course I pretend I don’t shop there as the local Dems might tar and feather me for failing to boycott them.

          • djcoastermark

I don’t “boycott” them. I just prefer to buy from someone local. And I don’t fall for the ads that proclaim they are cheaper. Local produce is much fresher and a whole lot cheaper than wally’s.

          • Gretchen

You are right about the prices especially on produce. Most of our local Dems boycott because of Wal-Mart’s labor practices. I agree to an extent, but I am also a person with limited mobility who sometimes has to just be practical about how to best meet my own needs. Wal-Mart brings my 40 pound bag of dog food and case of bottled water to my car. No one else in my town except Kroger will do that for me. I get almost all my regular groceries from Kroger and the produce market in the summer, but things like toilet paper, dog food, and light bulbs are cheaper at Wal-Mart. There aren’t many options for buying locally where I live. Unfortunately the smaller, local businesses have closed in favor of big box stores.

      • medaka

Yeah! Obese, under-dressed people can pat him on the head.

          He’s like an elf!

      • MusicBear88

He sure as shit couldn’t work in customer service. If you asked him where something was in the store he’d just say “I don’t recall.”

        • Snarkaholic

At 5’4″, he probably wouldn’t be able to see over the counter.

      • William

He should be the ride operator in some crappy carnival.

        • Stogiebear

          Donnie has that job.

      • Dave B

Maybe..but he would only great whites.

  • Rex

Every American should be protected under the Civil Rights Act. Every. American.

    • Karl Dubhe

It’s better if every person would be covered by laws like that. Otherwise, you’d be free to violate the civil rights of the tourists, and that would be bad for tourism.

Sessions is well and truly fucked and I, for one, am thrilled. He did it to himself, too – which makes it all the sweeter.

I have standards… oh, you meant something else.

Senate Dems stamp their feet and hold their breath.

Maybe the time has come to have a discussion on forming a Labor Party, the Dems have lost their way. As the republicans have veered hard Right into Alt-reality land political animals like the Clinton’s have felt it necessary to fill the vacuum with their Third Way philosophy. Almost as barf inducing as the Unity fools.

Trump saw it and was smart enough to con Blue Collar Union workers shaving enough votes to get an EC win.

    • Michael R

What we need is two parties making a bunch of promises they can’t keep and can’t show a working plan for to excite gullible voting morons ?
      Maybe .

  • Gustav2

“In a normal Washington, the attorney general would be out after this — especially since this isn’t the first time he’s been accused of misleading under oath. (Sen. Jeff Sessions would have already called for the resignation of Attorney General Jeff Sessions.) But in our politically paralyzed Washington — where the Trump White House and Senate Republicans are probably loathe to have confirmation hearings for another attorney general — Sessions might be able to survive if he begs for forgiveness.”

  • GayOldLady

OT: And Trump was just on TV screaming that Hillary should be investigated by the Dept of Justice.

Mr. Crazy Bastard, HFA and the DNC contracted for HFA to loan the DNC money to pay off a 20 million dollar debt and pay it’s monthly expenses in exchange for being repaid and making some hiring decisions for an obviously poorly managed DNC. It’s a legal contract you Crazy Bastard and the DNC is a private entity, not a Federal Agency. They are free to enter into any sort of legal agreement to pay off their debt. You, on the other hand, are under Federal Investigation by the FBI and SP Robert Mueller. You are likely going to be indicted for Obstruction of Justice and under the RICO Statutes money laundering for Russia, tax evasion and maybe more. I can hardly wait to see if your hair matches your jumpsuit.

    • Lars Littlefield

Why do you always make such clear sense? So far you’re the only person who actually seems to understand what’s actually involved in this aspect of the kerfuffle. Kudos to you, my dear. Keep on keeping on.

      • Bj Lincoln

She does nail it every time!

      • Kelly Lape

Because making sense doesn’t make money for the muck rakers. As the GOP goes down in flames the “both sides” bullshit is falling apart – ergo the media MUST create a DNC scandal. Every previous DNC scandal has dissolved in the light of day. With Donna Brazile taking the lead on this “scandal” the media hopes to create a sufficient background to enable a contest for 2018, 2020, etc… Shame on Donna for her quick buck attitude. I’d spit on her if I see her.

      • Ragnar Lothbrok

We need to get her in the gay mafia.

    • Bj Lincoln

I can’t stand watching, listening or even reading what the man-child has to say. I do read his tweets so I can reply that he is a F**king moron daily. I don’t know how you do it but bless you.

      A sweet summary !

    • Girlgoon

Here comes the presidential parade of pardons….

      • GayOldLady

He won’t be able to pardon them from State charges and he can’t pardon himself from State charges. He’s screwed, blued and tattooed.

  • fuow

Yeah, they’re both the same and there’s no need to vote in the upcoming elections.
Just gonna get worse and worse, darlings –

    • Girlgoon

Maybe a meaningless vote for the party of Ralph nader

  • William

Senate Dems should demand Sessions’ resignation and prosecution for lying under oath.

    • Girlgoon

Like when will the Dems wake up and start playing hard ball ?!

    • RaygunsGoZap

I just want them to have him in, tear into him and then have the Sgt at Arms or whatever arrest him for lying to Congress and put him in the basement cell for 24 hours. Let Kamala go down and chat with him and then walk him back up to the chamber for the real questioning.

  • William

Has anyone else noticed that Trump’s face has changed shape this week?

    • Dave B

    • greenmanTN

Not really. It at least used to look like a lobulated turd. Has there been a downgrade?

      • William

It’s just different than it was. Maybe all the two scoops have caught up.

        • GayOldLady

Is it less saggy? Less orange? Less hideous?

          • Joe in PA

            no. ;(

      • ChrisMorley

        Points for lobulated turd.

        • WhitewaterDave

          I agree! I don’t know if that’s a word, but I like it. And it’s fun to say! Lobulated…lobulated…

    • kanehau

I noticed it. Maybe it was the suit he was wearing… I don’t know.

      • Canadian Observer

Are you suggesting he got a new people suit? Did someone check the dumpster at the WH top see if the one he had to shed has gone out with the trash? (Shed is the right word isn’t it… when lizards and snakes change their skins it’s called shedding, isn’t it?)

    • GayOldLady

      In what way William?

    • JackFknTwist

      Interesting observation….needs further investigation !

    • Girlgoon

  • Richard B

Attorney General and right wing bigot, Jeff Sessions must be removed from office for lying repetitively to congress while under oath and perjuring himself.

  • JackFknTwist

We’ve had these second rate morons go ape over Benghazi with 12 hours of interrogating Hillary, we’ve had the endless e-mail song and dance routine, now they seek to launch a similar investigation into the Steele Dossier and its financing and the DNC Primary machinations, what else???

Now the pond scum GOP/Tories and the crusted turds of FOX seek to distract us from the courtship of Russia and Putin by the House of Trump/turd.
It is becoming more clear that Trump/turd was significantly in the pockets of the Russians through fraudulent financial grubby dealings.

We will not be distracted;Mueller + team will not be distracted. The indictments of the House of Trump/turd will come.
But i worry about the Middle East; will Jared the Genius have it all solved before he goes to prison ?
