POLL: 84% Believe Trump Willing To Strike North Korea

Just out from Pew Research:

As Donald Trump sets off on his visit to Asia, the public has become increasingly concerned over North Korea’s capability and its willingness to use nuclear weapons against the United States.

About seven-in-ten Americans (71%) say the U.S. should take North Korea’s nuclear threats “very seriously,” up from 56% in 2013.

And more say North Korea is capable of reaching the U.S. with a nuclear missile – and is “really willing” to follow through on threats to use nuclear weapons against the U.S. – than did so four years ago.

The new Pew Research Center survey, conducted Oct. 25-30 among 1,504 adults, also finds that an overwhelming majority (84%) say Donald Trump is “really willing to use military force against North Korea.”

And if Americans say it, it must be true, being as they are so politically astute.

  • Eric Lewis

Willing ? Its his dream. He’s wanted to go nuclear since before the election. Get him out now.

    • kareemachan

He must be REALLY desperate for something to arouse him.

  • Rex

I think it’s more like 84% think Trump is crazy enough to strike North Korea.

    • boatboy_srq

“What would make him take such a step” is a separate question.

I’d be more afraid of the ones who would answer that it’s the Right Thing To Do. But they are easily identified by the Drumpf/Dence bumper stickers and excess weaponry (and usually their Whiteness®).

  • JWC

!00% of N koreans believe Liddle Kim will strike Trump who is their back yard

    • Tulle Christensen

Wait just thought something….how close it Air Force One getting to North Korea on Trumps trip?

      • JWC

Aren’t they building a new AF!

        • Tulle Christensen

Didn’t Trump cancel that because Boeing was charge too much for fighters?

          • JWC

he mentioned it but has trump achieved anything yet

      • clay

He’s flying to Seoul on Tuesday. That’s within artillery range.

      • RaygunsGoZap

This is also shorts weather in Seattle. Why? I still don’t know.

    • crewman

I’m in downtown Seattle — it was snowing pretty good for 30 minutes, but it hasn’t been sticking to the ground.

      • Steverino

We have a friend who owns a houseboat on Lake Union, and received an email message from him about the snow. He is poised to pack up his two cats for his winter migration to Palm Springs.

Hey Kim, he will b e flying very close to your country soon, be ready.

  • kareemachan

Why didn’t they ask the important question: How many think that drumpster egged NK on with his 4th grade bully act?

  • Wade Persnippy

If the US wasn’t so busy being the bully of the world, and solved its problems at home things would be a lot better. I agree that North Korea is a concern for the world. I agree the government brainwashing and treatment of its people is almost as awful as the right wing religious republican policies on american people. Donald Trump and his war mongering allies the republican party and the rest of the plutocracy are making the planet less safe for the citizens of the world. The answer is not to detonate a bunch of bombs or nuclear weapons to add to the insecurity of world citizens and and already overtaxed planet. Diplomacy is a slow and uneasy process but its outcomes are usually better. The only nation in the world to have used nuclear weapons is the United States. I doubt that North Korea would be so foolish as to use them given that Russia and China are on there borders.

The reason countries resort to nuclear weapon production is for security. Given that the aggressive colonial power has them why shouldn’t every other nation on earth have them. The argument has always been that the US can be trusted with them, other nations can’t. Being a non-American, and looking at the US and the Donald Trump regime, I don’t think they should be allowed to possess them either. The world is becoming a more dangerous place day by day with Donald Trump in office. Sadly Americans are to afraid to do anything about it. The rest of the world watches in horror.

  • MT YVR

What’s interesting is that it doesn’t say what percentage agree that he should. Saying everyone thinks he’ll push the button isn’t the same as everyone thinks he will and he should.

But as someone else said, yes. I fear he will, simply to distract. Which is terrifying.

  • liondon#iamnotatraitor

The end of world fetishists love it.

    • another_steve

I could get off on the end of the world. On my terms, that is.

After a lovely dinner party, all the dishes washed.

    • Treant

I just cleaned out the gardens, so go for it.

Oh…no, I also applied iron, ammonium sulfate, kelp, and soap to the lawn. Could we hold off until that fades? Say February 15th or so?

  • FAEN

You know what they say-tiny hands, YUUGGE ego.

  • The_Wretched

    It’s “fall back” this sunday.

    • Dreaming Vertebrate

      And likely nuclear fall-out too.

    • Adam King

Just when I’d finally climbed out of the pit of depravity…

    • PickyPecker

I hate that shit twice a year. NO reason for it at all anymore. ‘Farmers’ do not need the ‘extra hour of light’ for anything….and as far as ‘energy savings,’ that’s what you can expect from the shrub admininstration to pass for an energy policy.
It’s time to stick to one time!!!

      • Lazycrockett

The Spring forward I can deal with , but the Fall back just fractures my sleep schedule.

        • PickyPecker

Same here. Will take me the better part of a week to get adjusted.
Oh, and try having a 4 month old St. Bernard who runs on schedule no matter what!!!

          • Lazycrockett

            Pics??!!

          • PickyPecker

I’ll try to get some new ones posted in the next few days.

      • Treant

I rather like it. That way, I can do garden work when I get home during the summer.

But they could start it in early May and end it in late September if they want to give people more time at night during summer.

      • shivadog

But we should stick to daylight savings time. Regular time sucks. Now It will be dark by the time I get off work. Grrrrrr.

        • PickyPecker

I’m fine if we could just pick one and stay with it!

          • The_Wretched

I agree, it’s time to just stop jumping.

          • shivadog

I’m good with that, I just want it to be daylight savings time. I’m not a morning person, so the other way cuts an hour of daylight out of every day. Very depressing, especially when the days are so short in the winter anyway.

  • another_steve

These days, horrid as they are, I am willing to jerk off to anything and anyone who presents.

    • clay

      Go home, Steve, you’re drunk.

    • PickyPecker

Stevela, hon. What’s this hok a chainik, eh? Be a good boy and find the TV remote and stop the tummel.

        Please stay with me.

You do very well, but please use the correct Jew aunt name.

    • Ragnar Lothbrok

I demand you release the parakeet, right now!

  • Treant

Well, of course he is. And I’d give it a fifty-fifty chance the asswipe goes nuclear.

Oh. The asswipe in this instance is Dumpy; I’m 100% sure NK would.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, the TeaPeople Free-to-be-Dumb Caucus have drafted a bill to strip Mueller of his investigations ‘cuz Hillary’s Uranium Deal.

    • Steverino

      Butter uranium!

I hope Trump visits North Korea and is held hostage there.

    • Lazycrockett

He’s not even going to the DMZ.

  • Ninja0980

But Hillary is the war hawk remember?

    • HZ81

Democrats and Republicans are the same!!!!

      (some idiots said)

  • m_lp_ql_m

Relax. World nuclear annihilation is Trumps plan to combat climate change.

    • Dreaming Vertebrate

Makes sense. After all, it was nuclear winter (a result of that damned meteor) that wiped out we dinosaurs.

      • Steverino

I suppose a nuclear winter would cancel out global warming… as well as wipe out the life form which caused both…

  • canoebum

We have to keep Kim’s domestic political considerations in mind here. He is taking this provocative path to maintain his own power, not as an aggression against the US. We are his foil, much in the same way Latin American dictators have used “El Gringo” as their boogeyman for decades. He knows full well that within a hour of firing an offensive missile at the US his country would be turned into glass. Sure, it’s troublesome for us, but I’m not losing any sleep over it. Neither should anyone else unless it’s your job to keep an eye on him.

    • shivadog

Yea, but it’s Trump we are worried about. Who would have ever thought that someone would make “W” seem intelligent and Kim seem sane by comparison?

      • canoebum

You’re right. Of the two, Kim and Trump, Trump is more dangerous due to his mental instability and legal problems. But as I understood the poll, it asked about concern over DRNK’s nuclear program. Frankly, I’m more concerned over Pakistan’s. If a nuke is going to get loose and fall into the wrong hands, it’s likely to be from Pakistan.

  • bkmn

Does anyone doubt that he wants to use a nuke just so he can go into the history books as having used one?

  • leastyebejudged

It’s funny, I’ve confronted several people in the past on social media for saying Hillary was going to do the same thing to Russia. They always slither away when you call them out, too. Back TO Russia.

  • JohnJay

Well, he’s over in east Asia now, so no attack until he’s back. I think he won’t be able to convince any in the military for a US nuke strike, but perhaps he might for a shock and awe style heavy bombing, including a good number of those MOAB bunker busters on their nuclear test installations. He’ll secretly get congress to approve as long as we won’t go nuclear. It’ll cause a big stink from China and Russia… but because it was non-nuclear (with no border crossing fallout), they’ll quiet down after making a show in the UN.

So, the earliest would be in the Nov 16-23 period. That’s after he’s back, and there’s a new moon. The Military always wants a dark night (no moon) between midnight and dawn for these massive stealth bomber runs.

  • narutomania

If they had asked me this question two months ago, I would have answered, “No, I do not think that the Presidunce would actually launch nuclear weapons on North Korea. He’s just engaged in a bunch of bullshit hyperbole via Twitter.”

But then, I said that same thing about so many of his dumbshit stunts over the past 15 months, so that now I have to say, “Yes, I do believe that he would. Because he is both that stupid and that reckless.”

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

The chances increase proportionately to the success of the Mueller investigation

    • leastyebejudged

      Jesus you’re a fucking idiot.

  • Barry William Teske

Bring it on home might need a redefinition.

  • DesertSun59

Once Mueller’s investigation begins to drop the hammer on HIM, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that he will attempt a first strike with nukes. He will quite literally believe that fomenting war will distract enough people’s attention from his past criminal actions.

  • Girlgoon

Who cares what the poll says, does north Korea believe Trump would strike them !?

  • Charles Nelson

I hope that US military families will decide to return to the States for extended visits with the family.

  • Willys41

Trump is willing to nuke Florida if it’ll get him re-elected.

  • BigGuy

Even if a preemptive strike is successful, the number of dead and the destabilization of North and South Korea would make things much, much worse.

If things keep on going on as they are, 1 to 3 generations from now, North Korea will fall apart from within, the way the USSR did, and South Korea and North Korea will unite into one.

Just waiting around for 10 to 80 years will be sufficient. It’s not exciting, it’s boring. Dull and boring can be a very successful strategy for staying alive.

I also advocate shipping food and medicine to North Korea and not charging them for it. North Korea being obligated to be grateful to us could be beneficial to us. It could weaken their resolve to be hostile to the USA.

When Herbert Hoover helped Russia to survive during the famine after WW1, his goal was just to help them survive, but his act of charity, and the USA supplying the Soviet Union during WW2, made the Red Army leadership grateful to the USA. Communist party ideologues wanted us dead, but the Red Army did not.

Meeting jaw to jaw is better than war. (Churchill line)

  • fahvel

    N. Korea is not a threat. -What have they done? Leave them alone, treat them with wary care and have a nice day. Just be afraid while your idiot pres wanders in very choppy and inscrutable waters for the next couple of weeks – Your pres is THE danger to global peace.
