TERRORISM: NYPD Reports Truck Attack As “Deliberate Act” – Driver Shouted “Allah Akbar” – At Least 8 Dead

After a flurry of confused and contradictory reports, it appears that the attack in lower Manhattan was indeed Islamic terrorism.

At least six people were killed Tuesday afternoon when a speeding Home Depot truck plowed along a Lower Manhattan bike path, running down helpless riders from behind, sources said.

Eyewitnesses told police the driver yelled “Allahu Akbar!” — Arabic for “God is great!” — after leaving the mangled bodies scattered behind his rental truck. The Middle Eastern man was arrested after police shot him in the rear end. Sources said he was waving a pair of guns when cops reached the scene.

The truck jumped the curb near Houston St. at 3:04 p.m. and began bearing down on the unsuspecting bicyclists, sources told the Daily News. Video showed crumpled two-wheelers and four bodies left in the vehicle’s deadly wake.

    Fuccckkkkkk!!!!!!

    • Ninja0980

Have a feeling this will make an impact in next week’s VA and NJ governor’s races…

      • JCF

        It better fucking NOT!

        democrats.org GIVE!

      • Jim Maloney

Likely a wash with Mueller’s news this week (so far).

  • Joe in PA

I kinda hate the world right now.

    • another_steve

      I love the world.

      I hate evil people.

      • DN

Nobody is evil. We tell ourselves that people or deeds are evil so that we can separate ourselves from their heinous actions. And in doing so, we can dismiss our own metaphorical demons without doing *any* self-reflection

        • another_steve

“Evil” is any behavior that’s not conducive to species survival and continuation. Thoughts per se are never evil. Only deeds can be evil.

Killing in self-defense isn’t evil. All species, to survive, need to occasionally kill in self-defense. Killing purely out of anger or frustration is evil, however. As a species, we’re better off being allies with one another than enemies.

“Evil” isn’t the same as “bad.” When a shark bites off a swimmer’s leg, the shark isn’t being “evil.” The result is bad for the swimmer but the deed wasn’t “evil.” The shark was merely doing what sharks do to survive.

          All in my opinion.

    • EastCoastJ

      Just hate Islam.

      • FAEN

        Really? Why?

        • EastCoastJ

Every single Muslim majority country is a nightmare for gays. Punishments range from public caning to the death penalty.

          • Dazzer

Try Muslim majority country Kosovo where the Muslim President opened gay pride week and the muslim prime minister’s staff walked in the gay pride parade.

Or just look at Great Britain where the Equal Marriage Act was pushed by a Muslim and the majority of Muslim MPs – from both left and right – supported equality.

          • EastCoastJ

Kosovo ? Is that the only one ? And 52 percent of Muslims in the UK want homosexual acts made illegal. The future is either Islamic or gay (in the west) it can’t be both.

          • Dazzer

            Utter bollocks.

Most Muslims in the UK don’t give a tuppeny fuck about homosexuality in day-to-day life.

The survey you efer to was all about how they wanted to live a religious life and not how they wanted to live a British life.

You’re using false data to support a false ideal

          • EastCoastJ

No, it’s not bollocks. And when the UK reaches a Muslim majority (and it will happen) you’ll see that. And then there’s this highly respected Muslim teacher espousing gays should be beheaded. This is a teacher of London’s biggest Islamic school for children : http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/hamza-sodagar-us-muslim-preacher-who-advocated-beheading-of-gay-men-allowed-to-lecture-in-the-uk-a7348886.html And of course gays hid in terror from confronting this.

          • Dazzer

I’m gay. I live in London. I shared a house with two Muslims recently. One was devout, the other not so much.

They didn’t give a damn about who I slept with.

The only fight we had in two years was about contributions to the electricity bill.

Your problem is that you’re ignorant.

          • EastCoastJ

They wanted you dead. Their way is “We’ll be your friend until we’re strong enough to be your enemy.”

          • Dazzer

So you failed in your audition to be a telepath in the next X-Men movie.

Sucks to be you, I guess.

          • EastCoastJ

No, it doesn’t suck to be me. We can just disagree. I see Islam as the growing homophobic enemy and you don’t.

          • FAEN

How many Muslims do you know?

          • EastCoastJ

About….nine or ten, but not all at once.

          • FAEN

They all want to kill you?

          • EastCoastJ

Not hands-on, and not personally, but they agreed that Shariah Law was correct and if I had to die with other gays it was god’s law and better for the long run. The same for other laws that the west would consider extreme (actually stoning women convicted of adultery, which shocked me just as much).

          • FAEN

I have a difficult time believing you. I’ve known Muslims all my life-none of them have expressed anything but revulsion for Shariah law.

            WHere do you live?

          • EastCoastJ

            If you say so.

          • FAEN

I do say so. I also have Muslims in my family by marriage who know I’m gay and they don’t want to kill me.

Where do you live anyway that you are so terrified of Muslims. Genuinely curious.

          • EastCoastJ

Aren’t you embarrassed to have Muslims in your family ?? You know they’re living by religious hocus pocus, right ?

          • DN

            More so hocus pocus than…?

          • EastCoastJ

More than science, that’s for sure. Talking trees ???

          • DN

I’m trying to piece together your position on theism. Specifically, do you reject one set of unprovable claims while accepting another? Asking in earnest.

          • EastCoastJ

You’re rude. You get no answer.

          • DN

Please show me where I was rude. What did I say to make you think that?

          • agcons

You asked a valid question based on input received from him. Oh, how dare you.

          • FAEN

DN is simply asking a question. How is that rude?

          • EastCoastJ

They think a god creature wants their heads wrapped ? That pork is unhealthy ?

          • FAEN

Christians believe you shouldn’t eat shellfish. And that Jonah lived in a whale.

          • EastCoastJ

            Yeah..that’s dumb too.

          • FAEN

Soooo the Bible is dumb which you excuse but the Quran is hocus pocus?

          • EastCoastJ

Both are dumb. But I only care about Muslim stupidity because that’s the direct threat to me.

          • DN

I’m sure it was muslims who beat Allen Schindler to death.

          • EastCoastJ

            Only Muslims.

          • FAEN

            ANd killed Matthew Shepherd.

          • FAEN

To begin with I despise ALL religion. And speaking of religious hocus pocus-have you ever read the Bible??

          • DN

            +1000

          • EastCoastJ

But the Bible-baloney people didn’t try to kill me more than once.

          • FAEN

So you excuse one religions hocus pocus but not the other? Dude-do you hear yourself?

          • EastCoastJ

NYC. I’m terrified of Muslims because they tried to kill me three times. Once at the Chelsea bombing and twice I went through WTC attacks.

          • FAEN

ANd what about Muslims who have saved lives by foiling terrorist attacks? Or Muslims who died during the attacks?

          • EastCoastJ

I have no sympathy for them. They still want my gay ass dead.

          • FAEN

You are judging an entire group of people by the minuscule percentage of a few. Should the world judge all gay people based on Milo?

          • DN

(massive bonus points for what I consider the correct spelling of “minuscule!”)

          • FAEN

            Gratzi lol.

          • DN

And I live in DC. Conservative fever-swamps brought terrorism to my city 11-odd months ago in the form of Edgar Welch, the pizzagate terrorist.

            And he’s a christian.

according to the new york times, “he said he had grown more religious in the past few years. Tattooed on his back are bible verses.”

as I said elsewhere in this thread, every religion disgusts me. But you don’t see me making the kind of statements you’re making.

          • EastCoastJ

And, since I’ve actually smelled the dead brought on by islam, excuse me if I don’t take some anonymous coffee cup’s word on some silly blog that islam isn’t an evil cult.

          • DN

Kinda a weird fetish. You sure you wanna wear that as your hairshirt?

            ew.

          • EastCoastJ

You can’t handle the facts either.

          • FAEN

This isn’t competition-I’ve also dealt with terrorism but that doesn’t mean I hate everyone who is that religion.

          • EastCoastJ

Well I do. Especially when every country of that religion punishes my sexuality.

          • FAEN

Then I suggest with all sincerity that you seek help.

          • FAEN

            Good god-what happened to you?

          • EastCoastJ

No religion tried to kill me more than once except for Islam.

          • DN

No religion ever tried to kill you. Assholes tried to kill you.

          • EastCoastJ

            Islam.

          • DN

Dude, I’m the first person to say that the only way to get good people to do evil things is to instill religion in them. But it’s all religion.

          • EastCoastJ

            Only Islam. No equating whatsoever.

          • DN

            Timothy McVeigh. American, christian terrorist.

And for that matter, so was Jeffrey Dahmer. He accepted Jesus toward the end of his life, and, according to christian opinion, that makes him worthy of heaven.

            False equivalency fail.

Now I ask again, where was I rude to you? Citation needed.

          • EastCoastJ

Muslims: London, London, London, Manchester, NYC,NYC, Boston, Paris Madrid Barcelona, Nice, Brussels, Mumbai, San Bernardino, Orlando……attempted : NYC, Seattle, San Francisco….

          • DN

Assholes: Muslims: London, London, London, Manchester, NYC,NYC, Boston, Paris Madrid Barcelona, Nice, Brussels, Mumbai, San Bernardino, Orlando……attempted : NYC, Seattle, San Francisco….

If you’re going to say that all muslims are responsible for this, then you have to accept that all christians are responsible for all christian violence, ever. And you’re going to have to accept that all gays are as murderous as Jeffrey Dahmer. Jeffrey Dahmer, who now resides in christian heaven.

          • EastCoastJ

Islam. And all because OF Islam. Dahmer didn’t kill because OF Christianity. In Muslim countries they hang men, legally, who are caught having sex with another man, and the entire population agrees with it.

          • DN

And Jeffrey Dahmer is in heaven.

          • DN

While every christian on Earth is forced to admit that he belongs there because he accepted Jesus.

          • EastCoastJ

I don’t care what Christians believe, as long as theyy give me gay marriage and don’t pull any Pulse massacres.

          • DN

(or pistol whippings while tied to a fence… right?)

          • DN

(or writing letters to the weeping doctor of said pistol whipping victim, asking if the doctor weeps for all his patients or just the faggots?)

          • EastCoastJ

That neither. But that’s illegal in the U.S. In Muslim countries one is paid to execute for homosexual acts.

          • DN

That’s an interesting fact! I’d love to see evidence thereto!

Edited to add that EastCoastJ has responded to multiple comments, but has yet to cite evidence to his claim.

          • EastCoastJ

I don’t know where gay serial killers go. But Muslims would kill both gay serial killers and gay humanitarians. The homosexual acts are the crime.

          • DN

            He’s a christian.

          • EastCoastJ

Muslims : miniscule part of the U.S. population : already attempted mass murder of gays five times over. You can’t get away from that no matter how hard you try.

          • DN
          • FAEN

You really need to get some help. Your view is unhealthy to say the least. What about gay Muslims-do you hate them too?

          • DN

Did you notice I twice asked for citations, which he has yet to back up? He definitely has yet to cite where I was rude.

Edited because I’ve now asked for a third citation.

          • EastCoastJ

You’re rude because you just popped in here demanding answers. I don’t have to talk to you. In fact, I’m through. If any of you want to hook up I’ll give you my cell number and we’ll discuss it in person. I hate too much online stuff (especially on this dopey blog where people still think Russian spies hang out).

          • DN

Seems an easy trap, doesn’t it.

          • EastCoastJ

Okay, Muslim-apologist. If you want my cell then ask. I’m in NYC but can go anywhere. I’m not one of the usual fat JMG basement dwellers.

          • DN

Please cite where I’ve been an apologist for muslims. Or any religion. I’ll wait.

          • FAEN

            Projection.

          • DN

Well, FAEN, it’s been a slice talking to EastCoastJ, and a genuine pleasure engaging with you. Hope to see you around soon! (ZOMG I’M CANOODLING WITH FAEN AGAIN!!!!!!!!)

As a basement dweller who is somehow *not* in a basement and is about to climb into a cozy bed, I wish you a pleasant sleep, and restful dreams.

          • FAEN

It’s been a pleasure engaging with you too DN- canoodle away lol.

Hope to see you around. Sleep well in your basement dwelling *not* a basement 😉

          • DN

And how, pray (get it?), would you share your cellphone number with me?

          • DN

Oh and regarding the, “just popped in here,” thing.

This is a public comment thread. If you don’t like that you are doing the equivalent of speaking loudly in a room full of people… that’s on you, dude.

          • FAEN

            He has nothing but animus.

          • EastCoastJ

If Muslims kill some of your friends in the WTC I’ll allow you to have animus too. Now…enough. If you want my cell…just ask. I’ll only speak if we do it in person.

          • FAEN

Why would I want to speak to you on your cell phone? You don’t really answer questions you don’t want to answer. Plus you’ve admitted all you have is animus.

Again, seek help. To hate an entire group of people based on a few is unhealthy and hypocritical.

          • DN

Amusingly, I’d assumed his silence over the last ten-odd minutes was because he *had* called you on the phone!

And I love the empty promise (threat?) of, “hey bro, call me on the phone!” Who on Earth would divulge their cellphone number over disqus? Furthermore, who would be dumb enough to dial up a number on disqus?

            Talk about bluster.

          • FAEN

And you weren’t being rude in the least!

          • DN

tbh, I think he gets off on his rage.

          • EastCoastJ

Oh…lol…you two are bonding. How cutesy dutesy. If you want to go after somebody go after some of these JMG goofballs who are still fuming over Hillary losing.

          • DN

            Attempted deflection; irrelevant.

          • EastCoastJ

            Attempted deflection that worked.

          • DN

            Insofar as?

          • FAEN

            More deflection.

          • FAEN

I guess. He just seems unstable.

          • EastCoastJ

The unstable folks here are the JMG basement dwellers who, if you defend Trump, screech “I don’t talk to Russian trolls!! blocked !” Talk about a blog full of paranoid asylum dwellers.

          • DN

Someone brought up Russian trolls in this conversation? FAEN, do you remember that?

          • FAEN

I certainly didn’t and neither did you.

          • FAEN

If anyone is paranoid pal it’s you.

          • EastCoastJ

Gay Muslims are fools, but they’re the only ones I’d allow as refugees into the U.S. Why do i need help ? Because I hate Muslims and see them as a homophobic threat? I’d say that’s a pretty natural reaction after what I’ve been through.

          • FAEN

They’re fools because they’re gay and practice their religion peacefully? How about gay Christians? Are they fools?

          • EastCoastJ

Gay Christians are fools too. Not AS foolish though.

          • DN

Hey well whaddaya know – while you’re shitting on me for agreeing with FAEN, you say something I agree with. Only I’d add straight chrsitians, straight muslims, gay jews, straight jews, gay buddhists, straight buddhists, etc. etc. ad infinitum to your list.

          • FAEN

Because they practice their religion peacefully?

          • FAEN

You never answer my question from earlier-do you think the entire LGBT community should be judged by what Milo?

          • EastCoastJ

So…what are you going to do about Imam Sodagar ?

          • Dazzer

I don’t have to do anything.

My country and my city will sort him out.

I have belief in myself, my city and my country.

            I don’t live in fear.

          • EastCoastJ

Yes, you live in fear every day that you leave your house. You lock the door , right ? The only way Islam will get “sorted out” in the UK is when you become…Londinistan.

          • Dazzer

The only thing I took away from your comment is that you don’t lock your front door. You’re living up to that ‘idiot’ grading.

          • EastCoastJ

If you lock your door, you live in fear. I see confronting Islam as taking the same precautions.

          • Dazzer

You don’t lock your front door?

You leave your front door unlocked to signify that you’re not afraid of Islamic terrorism?

If I knew where you lived, I’d love to be a penny-ante criminal in your neck of the woods.

You’d be better than a faulty ATM

          • EastCoastJ

Nope, I’m in NYC and I know Muslim horror, unlike the hicks on this blog still screeching that gays have to embrace Islam.

          • DN

            Again – citation needed.

          • FAEN

When were you last in London? And I lock my door no matter where I am. You don’t lock yours?

          • EastCoastJ

I was in London three years ago. (Never again). A while before you were dancing and prancing over Ronald and Penelope Jones hosting Muslim refugees.

          • FAEN

            Never again why?

          • FAEN

So, what are we going to do with Pat Robertson, Roy Moore, most of the Republican Party who call for our deaths in one way or the other.

          • EastCoastJ

They can be allowed to speak because Christians don’t follow the fanatics like Muslims follow theirs.

          • FAEN

LOL-so it’s ok for THEM to call for our deaths?

          • EastCoastJ

Yeah. I can’t stop lunatics on the street either. But highly respected imams in the growing Muslim population, in schools too, calling for gay beheadings is a real danger.

          • FAEN

YOure very happy to speak out about the Imams, why not the Christian version?

          • EastCoastJ

Because the imams get results. Muslims follow them. Pulse. The death penalty in 20 percent of Muslim countries.

          • FAEN

Seriously? Your answer just proves that you are anti Muslim no matter what which is aka Islamophobia.

          • EastCoastJ

And don’t forget the new Dachau and Auschwitz for gay men in Muslim Chechnya.

          • FAEN

And the Dachaus and Auschwitz’s which have been working in Uganda, Rwanda, Nigeria etc that have been pushed by Christians…AMERICAN Christians. Again, either you are ignorant to this or you don’t care.

          • EastCoastJ

Don’t care about Uganda and Nigeria. They also kill albinos for their “magic organs” there.

          • FAEN

So you don’t care about LGBT’s in other parts of the world who are suffering?

          • EastCoastJ

I can only worry about keeping Muslims out of the U.S., I can’t control African countries. They still have a child slave trade throughout central Africa too. It’s too much for me.

          • FAEN

So you don’t care if our LGBT brothers and sisters are tortured in other countries? It’s too much for you? Why? Because Uganda, Rwanda and Nigeria are predominately Christian countries?

            That thinking revolts me.

          • EastCoastJ

Go get revolted then. When Christians from Nigeria start moving to the U.S. and commit a Pulse massacre or try burning a thousand gays to death at the Seattle Neighbors Nightclub then I’ll tackle that problem.

          • FAEN

Every day scores of LGBT’s are killed all over the world. You should care regardless of what religion it is.

          • FAEN

India is a Hindu majority country and they have very regressive laws against LGBT’s. Christians in the US would happily execute us given the chance. In fact they have been pushing ‘Kill The Gays’ bills all over Africa. How come you don’t mention any of that? Could it be you’re one of those Xtians or are you just another tired islamophobic troll.

            Either way, just stop.

          • EastCoastJ

The majority of Christians polled in the U.S. want gay equality. And Christian-majority countries around the world have full gay equality (including ultra-Catholic Malta and Argentina). India WILL have fill gay equality soon, and Hindus polled in the U.S. all espouse full gay equality. No equating Hinduism and Islam.

          • FAEN

But by your own logic I should judge ALL Christians by the actions of a few.

          • EastCoastJ

No, not a few. The majority. Every single Muslim country punishes for homosexual acts.

          • DN

            No equating hinduism and islam…

dude… have you *seen* Gandhi? Partition was a fucking disaster

        • EastCoastJ

An in the U.S. Muslims have attempted to mass murder gays several times already. Can you imagine what will happen when their numbers increase ?

          • FAEN

There are millions of Muslims living in the US who are peaceful. You probably meet some every day without realizing it. And no, they don’t want to kill us.

Your attempt to create acrimony between the LGBT and Muslim communities doesn’t work here.

          • EastCoastJ

Maybe there ARE millions. Their percentage of murderers is still too high compared to other religions or athiests.

          • FAEN

Stop already. We live in a country where we have freedom of religion. What you’re hinting at, and badly, is some ridiculous ban. That is not who we are.

          • EastCoastJ

Yes..it should be who we are. It’s time for religious bans. If we can designate Islam as a cult (like Germany did with Scientology) then we can certainly legally ban Muslims.

          • FAEN

Well we finally got to the meat of it-if you want to designate Islam as a cult then you’ll have to add Christianity to that as well.

LMAO-you’re not actually comparing Islam that is how many thousands of years old to Scientology are you?

            Also we are not Germany.

          • EastCoastJ

If we have to do that to Christianity as well then I’ll go for that. I’m only here for Gay survival.

          • FAEN

            Suuurrre you would.

          • EastCoastJ

Well…if you don’t believe me, then talking here is over. Which is fine. If you are actually going to defend the Charlie Hebdo massacre as “religious freedom” then we’re at an impasse.

          • FAEN

And now you’re putting words in my mouth because you know you have nothing to stand on except for animus.

          • EastCoastJ

I have tons of animus. And you did defend both Charlie Hebdo and the Bataclan Theatre massacre.

          • DN

            Citation needed

          • EastCoastJ

            Nope.

          • DN

You made a claim; the burden of proof is on you.

          • FAEN

            Nope? Why?

          • FAEN

Does that mean you’re defending the Oklahoma City bombing, the Atlanta bombing, the Vegas massacre, the gay bar bombing….and I could go on.

          • EastCoastJ

I don’t have to work to create acrimony. We already had the Pulse massacre.

          • FAEN

We also have Eric Rudolph-a super duper Christian-who blew up a gay bar. And bombed the Olympics. Again, no mention of that from you but instead you just focus on Muslims.

          • EastCoastJ

Yawn. White men ARE the majority. So that’s a pretty small percentage. You can’t handle the fact that Muslims make up a miniscule amount of the population but tried to mass murder gay men five times over.

          • FAEN

You can yawn all you want but you are not going to convince me that I must hate ALL Muslims as you seem to want me to do.

          • EastCoastJ

I don’t care if you hate them or not. It’s your neck, and most gay men are cowtowed anyway. Here in the U.S. the imam that called for the Pulse massacre and inspired Mateen to act still happily preaches away. Gay men hide from it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vev-OzHQy94

          • FAEN

There are also Imams, some that are gay, who call for equality and speak out against Imams who are homophobic. What’s your point?

          • EastCoastJ

This guy called for the mass murder and it went through. Gays do nothing but let him preach for the next one.

          • FAEN

            And now you’re deflecting.

          • EastCoastJ

Nope. You can bend over backwards to defend Islam all you want, and only time will tell which of us turned out correct.

  • boobert

Time for more “close the border” talk. And of course, ” more guns could have saved people”.

  • JCF

I swear, it’s as if the Islamists WANT Drumpf to remain as President (probably because they fucking DO)

    • Ninja0980

      Of course they do.
They want war just as much as he and Republicans do.

    • RaygunsGoZap

Of course they do. The entire idea was to destabilize us via our own ignorance, pomposity and bigotry. It’s been wildly successful so far.

    • Cuberly Deux

      That’s exactly what they want.

    • FAEN

Like GW President Doll Hands is a great recruiting tool for them.

    • 2guysnamedjoe

If drümpf didn’t have the Islamists, and they didn’t have him, they’d have to invent each other.

    • Mike C.

They do. The more Trump vilifies them the more recruits they get.

    • pch1013

Yes, because what they want is to destroy the U.S. – which Trump is currently doing.

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

“We were afraid to offend…” Oh honey, have you met me? Have you ever met a Drag Queen?

“…so we said nothing when they killed many thousands all over the world.”…actually, a lot of us said a lot of things. We rallied and spoke out against religious extremism in Islam. What we didn’t do was blame every single Muslim for the actions of a percentage of their population…you know, the way right wing conservative blame all black people for crime…we don’t do that, it’s not our thing.

“Then they came for us at Pulse and we STILL said nothing.”…clearly, you haven’t been paying attention. We did and still do speak out; but again, we’re not rigid ideologues who declare an entire people guilty for the actions of some. I may bitch about Christians, but I realistically know most aren’t actually violent or evil, even though some are.

“Instead we call for stricter gun control laws…” because asking for someone to submit to a background check and ending the sale of weapons of war is such a burden and an affront to freedom /smh

“…and we bash Trump…” because he deserves to be held accountable for his ignorance, lack of intellect or diplomacy and his incredibly misguided and deluded narcissism.

“I mean, what the fuck is wrong with us?” Sweets, it’s not “us”, it’s you.

A loser, Keith. Give it up.

Most Americans fear for their lives today, due to the threat of religious-based terrorism.

      We need to address it.

      • FAEN

Seriously? You are attacking Keith because he is calling out the man who has done more to fan the flames of that fear? What is wrong with you?

        • another_steve

          It’s a real fear, babe.

Wake up out of your PC sleep.

          • DN

I thought Macs sleep and PCs hibernate. Could be wrong.

          • Randy Ellicott

Didn’t say it wasn’t real just that you are attacking someone who is telling the one who is most responsible for fanning those flames of fear to stop it… Is your head so far up your ass that you can’t see that trump has made things so much worse with his fear mongering or is it ok this time becasue this involves the Muslim religion? So in your mind its ok for the president to fan flames of fear and hatred against a group of people becasue a small percentage of them are assholes? So i guess you would be fine with a fear campaign about the dangers of christianity and all its harmful practices, because lets be very freaking clear here DEAR the christian faith has been responsible for far more pain suffering and death in america since 9/11 than the Muslim faith…

          • another_steve

Trump is right to forcefully condemn, by name, radical extremist Islam. His tactics for combating it might very well be wrong and counterproductive, but I give him credit for condemning it by name.

Violent religious fanaticism is (has been since the beginning of time) the #1 threat to the continued survival of the human race. All religions have adherents who engage in it from time to time. Since 9/11, I don’t think there’s any question that most of the death and destruction has been radical extremist Islamic in origin.

This stuff is a cancer on civilization and anyone who calls it out for what it is has my vote.

Anyone who refuses to do so – Democrat or Republican – vigorously, and anyone who refuses for whatever misguided PC reason to wage full-out war on it are cowards and traitors.

            Imo.

          • Randy Ellicott

So the answer to my question is yes your head is too far up your own ass… All religion poisons and separates, feeds off fear and hatred. that is how they work,. Islam is no different than Christianity, just a few hundred years younger… Singling out Islam like you do shows your own arrogant ignorance, congratulations.

      • Gerry Fisher

It could be religious based terrorism. It could be like Las Vegas, where we’ll never know. It could be a disease. It could be old age. It could be domestic violence or a drug overdose. It could be a car crash.

I’m sorry, but…we’re mortal. We’ll never, EVER be invulnerable, no matter how big a fearful state we jack ourselves into, or no matter how big a fortress we build or how much we can encase ourselves in bubble wrap.

After 9/11, we so needed an “All you have to fear is fear itself.” We didn’t get that. We’re still struggling to cope in the wake of that failure.

        • another_steve

When I posted my comment above (“A loser, Keith. Give it up.”), I was under the impression that the “religious terrorism” motive had been established.

    – Inept and corrupt responses to three hurricanes, including what looks like deliberate neglect in USVI and PR
    – U.S. troop deaths in Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Niger (probably more places)
    – The Charlottesville murder by American Nazis
    – The Scalise shooting

Given the horrific actions of this terrorist however, the reality seems to be that this has only made it easier for mentally deranged people like this to take out large numbers of people like a bowling ball headed down the lane for a ten-pin strike or clay pigeons at the circus fairway.

    • coram nobis

    • Bluto

sure, but only marginally easier than running on a sidewalk.

    • Before bike lanes became commonplace, cyclist death stats were much higher because cars don’t give bikes room on the roads. And I speak from personal experience that when there are no bike lanes, drivers would often behave as if I had no right to the pavement at all.

No, this is not a good answer. Because removing bike lanes makes MORE cyclists LESS safe for something that does not actually happen often enough to warrant such a drastic measure.

      • Oscarlating Wildely

Preach. As a fellow cyclist, I could not agree more.

      • Schlukitz

        • David Walker

Can you imagine the debris falling from the sky? Not to mention body parts.

      • stevenj

So many drivers (at least where I live) are so distracted with their phones, GPS, etc etc they are putting concrete (and sometimes planted) barriers next to bike lanes to protect cyclists, or painting the bike lanes a vivid green so they stand out. On some streets the bike lanes are next to the curb and sidewalk with parking for cars where the bike lane would normally be. I commuted on a bike in SF for over 20 years. I can’t tell you the number of times I was nearly doored or nearly sideswiped (from red light runners) or had to go out in a busy lane of traffic from drivers double parking in the bike lanes.

        • Oscarlating Wildely

I was in the bike lane and I got hit. Reason? Another car driver with their head so far up their ass they were licking tonsils. Yes, texting– of course. It’s not the biking lane or bikers causing the issue.

Hearing set for Kentucky judge who refused to handle gay adoptions

FRANKFORT, Ky. — A panel says ethics charges will proceed against a Kentucky judge who declared his conscientious objection to handling adoption cases involving gay and lesbian adults, despite his resignation last week.

News outlets report the state Judicial Conduct Commission announced Monday that a hearing for Judge W. Mitchell Nance is scheduled for Dec. 15, a DAY BEFORE his resignation takes effect. The 66-year-old Nance has presided over family court cases in Barren and Metcalfe counties in rural south-central Kentucky.

The commission said Nance’s April order, which he said was motivated by religious convictions, violated several ethics provisions. That included a rule barring judges from showing bias based on sexual orientation. Several civil rights groups had filed a complaint against Nance. Nance’s attorneys argued for charges to be dismissed after he resigned

    • BobSF_94117

I always object to pension-snatching, but I also object to wiggling out of things like this with a slimy “Nyeah Nyeah” move. (Notice he ran right to Liberty Counsel.)

        • BobSF_94117

Yes, but I imagine there’s more at stake than getting an official rebuke on his record. It’s not like his term was already about to be up. He resigned.

I was thinking the same thing. What goes around, comes around. And our history of going into other countries, setting up puppet governments, deposing even democratically elected officials, assassinating foreign politicians, “pre emptive” war, etc etc has it’s roots in the 1950’s and the CIA/Defense/military industrial complex all in the name of American “interests”. Religious terrorism has evolved from this.

Build electric powered driverless trucks that will only operate on designated streets and not down bike paths, sidewalks or over pedestrians.

Women have conducted terrorist attacks. Certainly not as often, but check in the Middle East. Hiding bombs under those robes is really easy and they are rarely suspected or searched in secure areas.

    • Guess again.

The 1984 Rajneeshee bioterror attack was the food poisoning of 751 individuals in The Dalles, Oregon, through the deliberate contamination of salad bars at ten local restaurants with Salmonella. A leading group of followers of Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh (later known as Osho) had hoped to incapacitate the voting population of the city so that their own candidates would win the 1984 Wasco County elections. The incident was the first and single largest bioterrorist attack in United States history.

Fundamentalist religious fanaticism and cult violence can happen in any system of beliefs.

Oh, and I should remind you that Donald Trump identifies as an Episcopalian.

  • Refugay

So this is immediately described as an “act of terror” yet the Las Vegas shooting was not. This just boggles my mind. It’s all terrorism.

    • Absent a known underlying value system driving the action, it’s hard to label it as terrorism. The Oklahoma City bombing, on the other hand, was most definitely terrorism.

McVeigh was, I believe, part of a militia, and these groups are being watched by the federal government, precisely because of their actions and their ideology. This doesn’t mean they should be stripped of their rights or harassed … just monitored. Seems sensible to me.

    • Tawreos

Initial reports said a middle eastern man did this one and in Vegas it was a white guy. That is all the difference necessary.

    • Do Something Nice

You are obsessed with Sanders. What he was trying to say is that the efforts for the rights of minority classes are needed as well as efforts to make life better for white working people. Clinton lost mostly because of Comey, but even Clinton supporters say that her campaign screwed-up by ignoring the white working class who either didn’t vote or voted for Trump.

      • Dazzer

Clinton has made that same point about her own campaign.

My problem with British and American politics at the moment is this insistence on ‘purity’ of philosophy and expression.

I understand what Sanders was saying – and I agree with it. But, obviously, he didn’t express his ideas as clearly as he should have done.

Hillary can be accused of the exact same thing.

People should be looking at intentions, actions and expressed desires for a better future rather than obsessing over quickly spoken words that might indicate a deviation from an ideological purity.

For fuck’s sake, even the Jonas Brothers got rid of their Purity Rings almost a decade ago.

        • Do Something Nice

“People should be looking at intentions, actions and expressed desires for a better future rather than obsessing over quickly spoken words that might indicate a deviation from an ideological purity.”

I agree. And in this case, those words don’t really deviate.

The media is complicit as well. Last week, the Republicans were working on a tax plan and were planning to limit contributions by working people to 401k (retirement) accounts, and this would actually harm working people. Trump tweeted that no, we shouldn’t change the current 401k system. I have no idea what his motives were, but it was the right thing to do. The media covered the story, but instead of discussing the actual issue of why it is good that people have the option to continue to contribute to these accounts, instead the story was how Trump was sabotaging the Republicans.

          I’m sick of this nonsense.

On an entirely different approach to this, at some stage, cities around the world are going to have to go back to putting back bollards to separate roads and pavements.

These things used to be prevalent as street architecture when there were horse drawn vehicles (because horses were more likely to bolt).

It’s now firmly established that terrorists are using vehicles as weapons of terror on streets in cities.

After the London Bridge terrorist attack earlier this year, London finally got the hint and started putting up barriers on bridges and their surrounds so no-one could drive a vehicle onto a pavement. And there’s a discreet programme to increase barriers in other parts of London.

I’m emphatically not criticising New York City, but I’d have thought they’d have taken a lead from other cities here. Mind you, I’d have thought other cities would have learned the lesson of Nice and Berlin and London and other places – but they haven’t.

While everyone is concentrating on policing and intelligence, local and national governments seem to be ignoring relatively cheap, low-level physical obstructions to prevent terrorism.

    • Schlukitz

This was the direction in which I was attempting to go in my comment to BeccaM but which you elucidated so much better than I did.

And the whole event is tinted by what he was heard yelling. If it had been something about Howdy Doody and not Al Akbar, would this be an above-the-fold story? But that’s all it takes, apparently.

    • David Walker

But imagine the conspiracy theories…just who was pulling Doody’s strings? Was Clarabelle finally fed up with his horn? Did Buffalo Bob and Princess Summerfallwinterspring break up and BB thought Doody was diddling with the Princess? And what about Mr. Bluster?

      • coram nobis

Trouble is, it’s not as currently-fashionable a conspiracy theory. Who today cares who killed Warren G. Harding, or why?

Trump has still done a better job at preventing Muslim terror attacks in the U.S. than Obama did, but I’ll admit his time in office has a long way to go. At least the jihadist plot to bomb gay San Francisco bars was stopped in its tracks though.

    • Dazzer

Trump hasn’t served eight years as president.

In his first ten months, Trump has had a terrorist attack on American soil.

Did Obama have that? Or did he prevent it?

    • Mikey

Trump hasn’t done ANYTHING regarding terror attacks of any sort. You can’t categorically say that he’s “done a better job than Obama”. He hasn’t done a single thing.

      • EastCoastJ

Yes, he did. Who are you saying stopped the San Fran attack ?

  • EastCoastJ

And it’s not like Muslim terrorists haven’t struck NYC before. Both foiled plots and plots that went through. One even planted that bomb at gay Uncle Charlie’s long before the first WTC bombing even.

    • Dazzer

If you’re so good at spotting America’s enemies, could you lay out your plan to stop another Las Vegas massacre killing please?

Tell you what. Let’s make it easy for you.

Stop a Sandy Hook massacre of schoolkids and work from there.

      • EastCoastJ

No, because insane spree killings (or rampage killings) are not in the same category as terrorism. Interestingly, the first modern spree killer in the U.S. (Camden, NJ) was a gay man. The U.S. is actually pretty low on the scale of rampage killings, anyway, statistically. But if you want to equate something like the Matthew Shepard thing with Las Vegas….have a field day.

        • Dazzer

So you can’t lay out a plan to stop massacres but you can generally blame Muslims.

If there’s a garage near you, I wouldn’t apply for a job as a useful spanner there, if I were you.

          • EastCoastJ

Of course I blame Muslims. They kill out of homophobia. You can smile and dance and prance and accept that, but not I.

          • Far too big of a tool to be useful, after all.

        • Mikey

The US shouldn’t be on ANY list of “rampage killings”.
As for it’s position in that list, it tops the list for the Americas, both North and South, with Colombia having 2, and Venezuela, Brazil, and Mexico one each. (this does NOT include school shootings)
The US has 247 dead out of that.
          The other countries 76.
So the US, as a supposedly “civilized” country, has a lot of work to do.

          • EastCoastJ

The U.S. only has one incident on the top ten list of rampage killings (Las Vegas).

          • EastCoastJ

How many of those rampage killings, incidentally, are gang-related ?

          • Mikey

gang-related killings are a list all their own, separate from the statistics I enumerated here.

          • EastCoastJ

As spree killings are different from Muslim (or any) acts of terrorism.

        • Actually, yes, they are. Most spree shootings are done in order to accomplish a political objective. You call them “insane” to try to cover up for this fact, but that’s you moving the goal posts like the troll you are. Fuck off back to Russia you lyin’ ass bitch.
