Trump Campaign Advisor Pleads Guilty Of Lying To FBI

ABC News reports that former Trump campaign advisor George Papadopolous has pleaded guilty to making false statements to FBI agents in a plea agreement made public this morning. Papadopolous first worked as an advisor to Ben Carson’s campaign and joined the Trump team in May 2016. He reportedly made at least six attempts to have Trump meet with Kremlin officials during the campaign. Story developing…

    But… Clinton! Emails! Uranium! Benghazi!
Again, 25 years of investigations against her, nothing.
6 months of investigations against Trump, and lookie here!

Trump is desperate. he’s throwing everything out there. And the only ones fooled by this, are those who want to be fooled by this – Nazis.
Anything Trump is tweeting about related to Clinton was legal. The proof of that is simply because if were ANYTHING remotely otherwise, the GOP would have been all over it years ago

        • james1200

Yesterday he tweeted this, lol. His own propaganda newspaper, the NYPost, called it a massive meltdown.

          https://twitter.com/realDonaldTrump/status/924641278947622913

You know this means they got the goods on him and he’s telling his supporters to get in the streets to stop Mueller. He’ll try and burn the country down around him. Fucker.

          • Todd20036

            if you’ve lost the NYPost…
This is not something Obama would say in 8 years as POTUS
            Trump is seriously panicking Good

I can’t believe he spelled “guilt” correctly.

          • RoFaWh

That may be a sign that the tweet was written by staff, not by Trump himself.

Though Trump could set them up as fall guys. He really doesn’t give a shit about them.

And it could well be because they are physically unattractive.

Josh Marshall at TPM says the charges against Papadopolous are very serious, which is why he has already taken a guilty plea. And he notes that none of this got out ahead of the indictments which means Mueller is running a very tight ship.

  • Treant

This one could potentially be meatier than the Manafort thing. Manafort is flashier, though, and a pardon is more likely to backfire there…

Three in one day? Manafort, Gates and Papadopolous? Are there more today as well?

  • GayOldLady

We have to be prepared to TAKE TO THE STREETS if Mueller gets fired. I’m not sure how Trump will fire Mueller, but I think it’s inevitable now. I expect to see Sessions fired, replaced by Trump friendly candidate who will oversee Mueller and possibly fire Mueller. I don’t think Rosenstein, who Mueller reports to, will do the dirty deed for Trump.

    • The_Wretched

I’m sure Mueller has a back up plan in place for his firing. Taking to the streets is still a good idea.

    • Robincho

      Nixon/Richardson/Cox. Part Duh…

    • Cipher

Hopefully enough of the investigation is sewn up and summarized in memos that the fallout would take Trump out faster than this process. We definitely will not be able to count on the GOP in Congress, but a few strategic leaks to the press and it will come down faster than the Trump Taj Mahal?

      • GayOldLady

“and it will come down faster than the Trump Taj Mahal”

        Sounds about right to me.

Ever notice how those that pay willingly or not have to take to the streets, while those that hate, cheat, avoid, and detest taxes get a ‘lobby’…

    • BobSF_94117

You think Sessions will balk at helping Trump?

      • GayOldLady

Under normal circumstances, no, but Sessions recused himself from this case so he can’t fire Mueller, at this point only Rob Rosenstein can and I don’t think he will.

        • BobSF_94117

Sessions has already ignored his recusal once, IIRC. And, even if my memory is wrong, the recusal isn’t official. He’s not legally barred from acting on Russia-related issues.

          • GayOldLady

According to every person I’ve heard speak on the subject, including Lawrence Tribe, whose opinion I respect, Sessions recusal prohibits him from getting updates on the Mueller investigation, from directing the investigation in any way and from hiring or firing decisions in the Mueller investigation. That includes Mueller. Rob Rosenstein is Mueller’s boss.

  • Buford

Collusion and cooperation between the Trump campaign and the Russian govt to influence the 2016 election seems like a slam-dunk at this point. Papadopolous was officially a campaign advisor and acted as a direct comm link between the Russians who promised ‘dirt’ on Hillary and Senior Campaign officials, with the latter acknowledging the need for Papadopolous to do things ‘off the record’ and in ways that would not raise flags.

Add that to the Donald Jr meeting, plus all the stuff we DON’T YET know, and this is huge… stuff that the GOP Congress obviously knows but couldn’t be bothered to address.
