Trump Explodes Over “Phony” Mueller Indictments

The Washington Examiner reports:

President Trump responded to reports that special counsel Robert Mueller is about to indict people in his investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election by pointing the finger at Democrats. Trump said the investigation into whether his campaign colluded with the Kremlin is “phony,” “bad for our country,” a “witch hunt,” and “evil politics.” He added the news that Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee paid for the unverified dossier alleging scandalous behavior by Trump has united Republicans.

    Top comment on Mediaite:

This news must really chap the GOP’s hide. After three decades of attempting to criminalize the Clintons’ every move, they had nothing. In one fall swoop, we come in and start handing out indictments for real crimes against the administration of a sitting President. The Cons got beat at their own game.

    • clay

And the GOP’s only reaction is “Clinton!”

Is it because a Dem governor from a Southern state disproves them?

      • Steverino

And Hillary is a blasphemer because she used to be a Republican. In her youth, she was a “Goldwater Girl.”

The only thing even near Goldwater with the current occupant of the White House is the salacious allegation involving Russian hookers.

    • Michael R

Meanwhile before all this goes down

Since 1968 we’ve had 28 years of GOP Presidents
and 20 years of Dem Presidents
      Criminal Indictments :
      Gop = 209
      Dems = 4

      • FAEN

        But her emails! 🙄

      • Miji

That first part is just so sad to read. Imagine just how much farther along we might be if that balance were different. I think the biggest change to history would have been Gore winning instead of Bush. Maybe it’s a toss-up whether 9/11 would have been prevented, but we would have started addressing climate change and we would not have gone into Iraq.

      • Galvestonian

That’s because Republicans are the “Party of Big Business” which means money – not just small change – but YUUUUUUGE amounts of it and ‘Big Business’ just isn’t American anymore. The Republicans are really bone hard about this tax thingee and if it don’t happen the stock market is gonna go ‘ker-plooey’ and the damn thing will just implode and stockbrokers will be raining out of windows all over Wall Street. If it passes we’re stuck with the Orange Fuehrer for God only knows how many more years.

Incidentally, when the Rethugs claim that the tax breaks to the 1%’s will generate more jobs and boost the economy they are ( in actuality ) telling the truth.

The only problem is that the jobs will be in China, Japan, Korea, Thailand and India and it’s their economies that will be boosted.

We’re fucked and Trumpizzi’s base is the one bunch getting the chrome shaft more than the rest of us but these morons don’t or won’t believe it until they’re sucking dirt and they’ll still blame LGBT’s, Catholics, Democrats, Liberals, Muslims, Mexicans and anybody that contradicts them because their Republican values rotten, riddled minds say so.

      • jerry

It was widely reported in the 1990’s that all the Whitewater investigations was payback by congressional Republicans still butthurt over Watergate and Iran/Contra.

I ran down the length of that pier – and rocketed myself out about 6-8 ft – and hit that fucking freezing ass cold water. All i remember is coming up screaming “Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!” – and then I had to swim to the pier for him to grab me and yank me out. Never did that again!

have you seen the film “beautiful thing”? has a lovely “mamas and papas” sountrack backing a charming story.

          • Dazzer

That was filmed very close to me. I used to drink in the gay pub that was shown in the film.

It got bought by a straight guy who claimed he was going to increase the number of customers by making the pub gay-friendly rather than gay. Except he didn’t really like gay people. And straight people didn’t like him. Nobody liked him, truth be told.

Anyway, well before all the other pubs closed down, this pub closed down and was turned into flats.

The gay pub on the next street over stayed gay and is still open to this day – and still does a roaring trade.

          • FAEN

That’s shame it got bought over.

          • Dazzer

The weird thing is that the pub (which I think was called The George) was in Greenwich – London’s second largest tourist attraction outside central London.

There is a massive amount of tourist trade. Even small pubs could/can keep afloat financially by offering lunchtime meals and drinks to visitors.

The George was right at the bottom of Greenwich hill and just opposite the entrance to Greenwich Park (where you’ll find the Old Royal Observatory among other things), so it was a great rest stop for tourists on their way in or out.

When it was a gay pub, it was essentially a tourist pub during the day and a gay pub at night.

When the new guy took over and started pissing off the regulars, we used to turn up for Saturday and Sunday lunch, sit next to the most elderly and easily shockable tourists, drag out our gay magazines and compliment the tourists on being so open minded that they were helping the local gay economy and did they want their picture taken at a gay pub? If they did, we’d happily give them a rainbow flag along with the flag of their own country to hold.

To everyone’s immense surprise, the tourist trade to the George fell off in just a few months.

By contrast all the tourists to the Rose and Crown (the other gay pub – it’s still going strong and I recommend it: it’s a proper old pub with excellent service and good food) might have noticed that there were a lot of fairies around – but we were the kind of helpful, knowledgeable fairies who knew all the secret history and where to get all the best deals.

It’s still thriving to this day.

The Gov is finding out he got played by the investors/holders of Whitefish. Whitefish presented itself as proactive and ‘to the rescue!’ – when all along the Whitefish agenda was skirting gov agencies to get at the money. There’s a healthy list of rethugs involved in backdooring – starting with Rick Perry.

        • netxtown

“…raised questions about the role of HBC Investments, a key financial
backer of Whitefish Energy. The Dallas-based company’s founder and general partner, Joe Colonnetta, has contributed thousands of dollars to Trump and other Republicans, including Energy Secretary Rick Perry, a former Texas governor, and Texas Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz. Colonnetta also gave to Trump’s inauguration.”

It stinks to high heaven, but nevertheless, they do seem to be getting the job done in Puerto Rico. Not that I’m giving any US government related aid to this crisis the benefit of any doubt.

          • netxtown

I actually advocated this was a good move by WF as it they were getting boots on the ground while the gov agencies were still scratching their asses. I suppose this falls under the old cliche: Relax. This won’t hurt.

          • John30013

Getting the job done, perhaps, but at what cost? The hourly rates and per diem they’re charging sound downright criminal. There will always be some amount of “excess” in such contacts, especially when time is a factor, but this seems extra egregious.

          • Andymac3

They have a fraction of the manpower that Houston and Florida had weeks after being hit by a hurricane. It’s not because they are an island surrounded by big water, it’s because they are being screwed by a corrupt US administration who wants Puerto Rico to fail so they can buy it up for a cent on the dollar.

        • GayOldLady

It has to be an inside job when the company doesn’t even have a store front presence and 2 employees. The contract is paying subs huge wages and outrageous per diem rates

        • Steverino

Rick Perry reputedly does have some experience with backdooring…

      • David Walker

Yes, but I’m inclined to give the man a break. I’m not governor material, but I think it’s possible to sign something that I’ve been told is good just because I was so overwhelmed by the suffering of all the people. It’s old-American thinking, granted. It still takes time to realize that this is no longer America, especially when you’re exhausted and trying to do the right people for your people. The mayor of San Juan may be as feisty as ever, but she’s not the governor (yet).

        • Chucktech

I would also suspect that, since their power company is bankrupt,* that not many other companies such as Whitefish were rushing in to help them.

*Which makes no sense since everyone knew that FEMA money to rebuild would soon be coming in.

          • GayOldLady

They had some other entities that offered help that were much better qualified to do the job. I don’t remember the names, but Rachel read the list on her show one night last week. There’s something rotten here and I’m glad that this isn’t something that slid under the radar.

          • netxtown

I thought the hiccup was the up front money they wanted to start…?

          • John30013

Yes, that’s what I heard too. Still, the rates in this contract seem very excessive.

Perhaps that’s the cost of getting out fine now, and from all reports Whitefish *is* getting the job done. I just fear PR is getting reamed on the price since they’re basically in a “can’t refuse” position.

      • netxtown

I thought it was the top guy from PREPA that signed the contract. Either way – they’re on the hook for a good chunk of money because they did sign the contract – and WF has got 300-400 employees already in PR. I’m sure there is a cancellation clause…with a big ol bag of money tied to it.

        • John30013

Correction: contractors, not employees. I’d be interested to hear how much those contractors are actually being paid (as opposed to how much Whitefish is charging for them).

When you understand that Trump is a 71 year old rich, spoiled, conceited, maniacal man, who has never directly suffered the consequence of his behavior, it’s amazing watching his DO SOMETHING! meltdown. For the first time in his life there is no one to save him from himself. Not daddy, not mommie, not brother, not sister, not wife, not daughter, not sons, not hired help, not high powered lawyers, not money, not threatening his victims, not corrupted officials, NOTHING will save him from his own crimes. This is a seminal moment in U.S. History and all of us who have spent 18 months RESISTING should rejoice because this is the beginning of the end of Trump.

As am I. Can’t Trump just dissolve the Special Counsel (Muller) and the investigation by the stroke of his pen? • Acronym Jim

You’d think Trump would be happy with the “Comey fix.” It’s what put him over the top and garnered him the electoral college. Remember, Hillary was 6 to 8 points ahead before GOP leadership leaked Comey’s nothing-burger “emails found on Weiner’s computer” bullshit (which should have been thoroughly vetter BEFORE a report was made to Congress).

Her lead in the national polls dropped to 2 points after the leak. She won the popular vote by 2 points, garnering more votes than any white candidate prior to this election.

    • Ross

“It’s what put him over the top and garnered him the electoral college.”

Well, and perhaps he also had help from Russia stealing votes for him.

We can imagine anything. We need evidence. Mueller will provide it.

      • Acronym Jim

That too, yes – obviously. Hence my qualification “put him over the top.” If the Comey letter hadn’t been leaked, it’s very likely that Hillary would have maintained her lead, thereby defeating the Russian meddling, thirty years of GOP lies and smears, and third party “protest votes.”

        • Chucktech

I posted this previously. It seemed appropriate to repost today:

    TWO TRUTHS

    1) Trump is a pathological narcissist.

    2) Trump has spent his entire life in a self-created bubble.

The bubble maintains, for Trump, the idea that he is perfect, brilliant, sexy, the best ever, etc.

Trump is constantly having to maintain this bubble, to keep it crack-free and polished. This is standard for any pathological narcissist, and I would suggest that Trump’s PRIMARY effort on a daily basis is to maintain his self-created bubble.

He was able to do this for seven decades.

But…then he got in the Oval office, and for ten months now has endured a level of scrutiny that ONLY a person in the Oval Office can experience.

If Trump ignored the media he could continue to maintain his bubble.

But Trump is addicted to news about himself. And it is clear that he is watching a LOT of news which SO does not correspond with his bubble-created image.

So, for the first time in his life, Trump’s bubble is being cracked and battered in a way unprecedented for him. Criticism of him is piling up faster than he can do emergency repairs to the bubble.

This then begs the question: What happens to a pathological narcissist when their bubble is destroyed?

To me, THIS is the question.

    And God help us all.

    • Dazzer

      Superb analysis.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

Whatever my disagreements with Hillary were, I always thought she had a tough skin. • safari
    • KarenAtFOH

Deep inside, the narcissist carries a negative sense of self-worth; that his core self is in some way defective, and this defectiveness is visible for all to see unless they are distracted. This is the essential experience of shame. It often develops in childhood when the child is constantly criticized and/or punished for not living up to some set of expectations. Most children will almost involuntarily conclude that they are at fault, and are somehow defective. Few people can actively hold intense feelings of shame in their conscious awareness. They will employ one of two strategies to stop the intensity of shame. They will either blame someone or something else, which serves to shift the spotlight off themselves, or they will become angry, because that emotion drowns out and overtakes feelings of intense shame. Normally, a narcissist can deal with negative attention, because they are addicted to attention, no matter the source. but when the attention stikes at the heart of their shame, they will be so triggered that they will employ one or both of their shame-diversion strategies. Look for trump to continue and intensify his blame game, and look out for bouts of rage that may unfortunately involve governmental order of one kind or another.

        • KarenAtFOH

Yup. I speak from painful experience. Thanks to some gifted therapists, and an amazing book on shame, I was pulled from the brink of suicide. Recovery circles talk about shame-based family systems, and this sweet little boy did not deserve to be mistreated. Parents use shame as a weapon, because torture, while hideous, can be very effective in the short term.

Such bizarre times we live in. Trump is clearly pathological in his lying. The uranium story falls apart rapidly when you know the facts. There’s nothing there. Yet, there’s Trump, repeating flagrant bullshit while spittle-flecked trumpanzees pound the ground, ecstatic that someone has released them from the duty to be intellectually responsible.

This dishonesty and delusion undermines an already fragile commitment to truth and reason among a significant segment of the population. Trump is fueling like no president in our lifetimes wild eyed conspiracy theories and hostility to logic and evidence. He’s authorizing extremism, he’s validating irrational acting out among his base, he’s patterning already weak minds into the ugly ruts of scapegoating, deflection and psychological projection. Evidence does… Not. Matter. Believe what fuels your anti-liberal and fascistic anger–this is what’s true.

The authoritarian barks lies, the trumpanzee salutes, and right-wing media falls lockstep into line with the big lie.

      What was this all about?

      • Claude Jacques Bonhomme

Yes… usually, he pulls them out of his ass.

  • Randy

    Well, he certainly SEEMS innocent.

    • JAKvirginia

Okay, I was going to snark, but no, no, I’m just going to laugh. Because I KNOW that is exactly what his dumbass base will think.

  • He’s panicking.

This is both good and bad…

    • billbear1961

That a great nation should be subjected to–under the thumb of–such as THIS!

      I should have written “great.”

    • ultragreen

More good than bad, I think.

  • FelineMama

Hey trumpy, didn’t your momma tell you about your face will freeze like that if you keep making those faces.

  • CB

All I hear is Susan Hayward screaming “I WANT TO LIVE!”

  • JAKvirginia

    And I repeat myself:

    – Special Prosecutor brings evidence and charges.
    – Grand Jury analyzes evidence and charges, issuing indictments when necessary.

That’s how this works. That’s how it has always worked. DO NOT LET THAT FUCKER CHANGE THE FACTS!!

  • Galvestonian

Ya know how a volcano that is about to self-destroy sends our rumbles and earth tremors just before it’s about to completely blow up and completely eradicate everything around it for miles and miles ??? I thing that Trump is just about ready for a major explosion …maybe even a freak out of YUUUUUGE proportions.

    • JAKvirginia

Um… yeah. And I don’t think I like where that thought is going! Yikes!!

    • kareemachan

I just watched a show on PBS called ‘Killer Volcanoes’. Thought the same thing.

His Ivy League education must not have included any discussion of Lady Macbeth.

  • Rusty Fender

His buddy, Roger Stone, got himself banned from Twitter for this sort of behavior. We can only hope Twitler does the same.

    • Halou

Twitter has already said they wont do that, the amount of revenue Trump makes for them is too important.

      • billbear1961

Twitter: “As long as you make us enough money, you may violate any of our rules you like. Rules are only for LITTLE people.”

  • Halou
    • billbear1961

What a sad, sorry nation it is that cannot shake off the likes of Alex Jones.

That all-caps, panicked DO SOMETHING reminds me of my brother when he was just a toddler. He had only barely started talking and was consistently saying maybe a dozen words or so. He was sick one night and had projectile vomited all over himself, the wall, the floor, and half the room. He stood there in his fuzzy pajamas with the little feet on them and looked up at mom and said a brand new word, “HELP!”

  • LeeCMH

    The louder they complain…

  • Mike__in_Houston

I don’t think he actually wrote these. There is something in the tone that doesn’t sound like him, although the sentiments are standard Orange Shitgibbon.

  • Grumpys cats Best Friend

Hopefully he will blow a gasket.

  • DesertSun59

First Tweet is false, of course. He’s never seen such RUSSIAN BOT unity.

  • ultragreen

This is probably how Hitler in his bunker acted as the allied forces were closing on Berlin.

Josh Marshall takes alarm at the Uranium One affair.

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/not-remotely-kosher

This is fairly astounding. Apparently President Trump directly ordered the Justice Department to lift a gag order over an FBI informant who is apparently at the center of the John Solomon ‘uranium one’ story. This seems to be to make it possible for this informant to testify before Congress …

I’d feel a lot happier if the headline read: TRUMP’S HEAD EXPLODES. He is so oblivious to the fact that the louder and more insistent in his making accusations of “phony” and desperately trying to shift the blame to Hillary that it becomes all the more believable that he is hiding something big. I’m sure he wants to fire Mueller in the worst way and has been seriously counseled not to do that! Besides, Donnie, a Grand Jury issues the indictment/s, not Mueller. YOU CAN’T STOP THE PROCESS no matter how angry you get. He is so like the spoiled kid he’s always been: I DIDN’T DO IT, MOM, SHEEEEE DID IT! Dear God, please let me be here to see the day this nightmare president and his atrocious administration collapse in on themselves.

  • jonfromcalifornia

“Do something!” He sure sounds desperate, doesn’t he….

When is that hair going to burst into flames? Not soon enough.

Try as he might, Monday WILL be here soon.

  • Sporkfighter

    Isn’t it Monday yet?

He should be worried, but I am also worried.

For those of us that have been teachers, these antics are so typical of the school yard bully. Having been caught, he/she automatically blames someone or everyone else for his/her actions. The Nuremberg Nazi trials were filled with ranting and raving, but justice came down on evil heads. “Justice is NOT blind, maybe slow, but the ‘axe does fall.’ In Australia, but glued to N.America.

Vladimir Putin has certainly gotten his money’s worth!
