White Supremacists Rally In Tennessee [VIDEO]

The Shelbyville Times-Gazette reports:

Confederates. Anarchists. Police. Batons. Automatic rifles. Snipers. Helicopters. Drones. Clowns. Those were the scenes Saturday as 200 to 400 white nationalists and 400 to 600 counter-protesters filled downtown Shelbyville during the White Lives Matter rally.

The streets in between the sidewalks at North Cannon Boulevard and Lane Parkway belonged to hundreds of police officers from across the state. Officers, K-9 units and armored trucks filled the streets between the two rallies. They were supported by horse patrols, officers driving utility vehicles, helicopters and drones. Snipers and observers patrolled the roofs of many businesses.

The two sides yelled a lot, chanted and waved flags and signs. The counter-protesters played a variety of rock, pop and Latin music, plus a recording of a speech from the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. The white nationalists’ chants included “White Lives Matter” and “We will not be replaced.” The commanders of each of the white nationalist organizations spoke. Through it all, the police kept everyone safe.

USA Today reports:

Members of the League of the South, the white nationalist group that helped organize the “White Lives Matter” rally, carried a sign calling “southern cultural genocide.” Michael Hill, president of the league, said “Hail Dixie” and “Hail victory!” over the loudspeakers.

Thor Henderson, a grand officer in Georgia for the International Keystone Knights, a Ku Klux Klan group, said he was marching to bring awareness to the September shooting at a Nashville church. Some people there had “tradworker” written on their shields — alluding to the Traditionalist Worker Party, another white supremacy group.

The League Of The South backs Roy Moore and has distributed pro-Moore placards at his rallies.

      • A lot of ’em sent off for those DNA ancestry testing kits, fully expecting to be labeled “northern European.”

Most of ’em are finding out they have ancestors who were African, Jewish, Hispanic, Middle Eastern, Asian…

I noted in a small Twitter thread a few hours ago how I remember my mother’s father telling us that in the 1920s, the Irish weren’t considered ‘white’ at the time. Then, there was the great-grandmother on my father’s side of the family (much of it Polish, German) who was Romani (a Gypsy) and nobody talked about her, ever. Finally, my father’s brother married a woman from a south Italian family…and when they originally came to America, THEY weren’t considered caucasian either.

Really, what this shit comes down to is pure tribalism. Our people good, other people bad, especially if the other people look different in any significant way. These racists are such mutts genetically speaking, they have no idea they’re not 100% white either. But that don’t matter, because it’s their tribe and they’ll hate anyone who isn’t a recognized member.

        • CottonBlimp

I don’t think it’s just tribalism, is the thing. If it were tribalism, the English would hate the French as much as they hate Africans. Granted, they get close sometimes.

But when America was founded, we were just a confederacy of colonial states from different nationalities; Spanish, English, Portuguese, German. Our founding value was not the superiority of our nation, but the superiority of the white race, united in a continent. White Supremacy is distinct from mere tribalism or any xenophobic instinct; it’s an ideology that, while born as a rationale for the Imperialist exploitation of the world, the US has sadly developed much further and exported across the planet.

Actually, it still exists in parts of Africa, the Middle East and Asia.

        • Strepsi

I think it’s truly fascinating (if terribly morally sad) that human slavery is a universal of human societies, through all history on every continent, including some of our First Nations.

But you know what, it’s 2017 and we’re supposed to be better than that now.

          • CottonBlimp

Not true! There have been many societies that didn’t practice slavery or outright forbid it. Like the Persian Empire, which freed the Jews from slavery so they could write their guide on how to enslave.

          • HAAAAAAA

That was because everything belonged to the King of Kings, and thus everyone was a slave because they everyone and every thing was the property of the King.
The Achaemenid historians and the Cyrus Cylinder, have given a number of references to the treatment of slaves.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

I find it interesting that the WSJ, the moneyed wing of the GOP, is all “Oh, hey this shit is happening” and not hiding it completely like Faux News.

      • I could be wrong—and I have been, many times—but I’m beginning to get the feeling the conservative establishment types are trying to psych themselves up for what obviously needs doing: Removing the madman before he kills us all.

As I’ve recounted in weeks/months past, because the small company I’m involved with has been trying to secure capital funding, we’ve been unusually aware of what’s going on in the world’s financial and banking markets.

THEY are freaking out over the instability and chaos originating from no place other than Cheeto Hitler’s regime. Transactions, currency exchanges, economic stability itself, all have been put at risk.

We heard from one of the money guys that one of the reasons the stock markets are bubble-izing right now is because the investment class is afraid to be sitting on piles of cash (which could suddenly devalue and crash, esp. if it’s in dollars). So they’re going nuts with reinvestment and stock buy-backs.

To be sure, their top wish from the GOP is just the tax cuts. That’s the main thing they want. But they’re coming to recognize that with the splintered GOP and the nutzo in the WH, their chances of getting them are slim to none.

        • Gianni

You are right about them psyching themselves up for the coming fall. FUX News, doing the extreme right-wing’s business, has been beating the “Hillary’s/Dem’s Fault” drum for quite a while and now it’s all about “the collusion is on Hillary and the Dems”. They are throwing out literally anything and hoping it will stick. Poor Donald is such a treasure that he would never do anything underhanded. They refuse to realize that none of this bullshit is going to stick to Hillary. Months ago I started to watch Hannity a couple times a week and his show was always the same thing – carrying on about the 7-year old uranium deal and such crap. Anything to steer the base’s mental limitations from the obvious facts of this trouble-laden administration. I detest all the mental midgets.

        • Skeptical_Inquirer

The money people, if they love stability so much, need to learn that their strategy of turning various groups against each other for shits & giggles may have enabled the GOP to get into power but it makes for national instability that will cut their profits. If they are capable of learning anything, they need to quash not just the naked racism and outright lying but also the dog whistles and the tolerance of BS because it ALWAYS devolves into something like Trump.

A country on fire doesn’t produce revenues. A tax cut on 0 revenue is 0.

        • j.martindale

Much of the stock rise is accounted for by the fact that the Boomers are either retiring or facing imminent retirement and are trying to put as much into investments as possible.

    • -M-

Does the WSJ article do anything besides trashing talking the Steele dossier and claiming the Dems had the allegations ‘manufactured’?

    • Cuberly Deux

The way they’re jumping through hoops to manufacture a scandal is just plain flippin bizarre. It’s as if they think that if they scream loud enough it’ll make it so.

None of this is relevant to the content of the dossier. None. Like railing on it’s origins is enough of a scandal to eclipse the fact that so much of it has checked out.

    Do we know why?

    • Scout

People were reporting him for his abusive posts. Joe did a post about his twitter rant earlier.

      • gaycuckhubby

I saw the post. I didn’t think he said anything that millions of users dont say everyday

        • Jean-Marc in Canada

It’s not so much what he said as how many times he kept saying it. Twitter is beginning to crack down.

        • Scout

I think some of his wording was construed as anti-gay, etc. I was on twitter earlier and a lot of people complaining about why does he get to say these things, it goes against Twitter guidelines. no hate speech, etc.

          • gaycuckhubby

Lol at the idea that twitter will remove people for gay slurs/jokes/insults.

          • Scout

Why do you think he was removed from Twitter then?

          • gaycuckhubby

Not sure. Im not convinced he should have been.

          • Scout

Twitter makes their own rules, though. It’s not a first amendment thing:

            Abusive Behavior
We believe in freedom of expression and in speaking truth to power, but that means little as an underlying philosophy if voices are silenced because people are afraid to speak up. In order to ensure that people feel safe expressing diverse opinions and beliefs, we do not tolerate behavior that crosses the line into abuse, including behavior that harasses, intimidates, or uses fear to silence another user’s voice.

Any accounts and related accounts engaging in the activities specified below may be temporarily locked and/or subject to permanent suspension.

Violent threats (direct or indirect): You may not make threats of violence or promote violence, including threatening or promoting terrorism.
Harassment: You may not incite or engage in the targeted abuse or harassment of others. Some of the factors that we may consider when evaluating abusive behavior include:
            if a primary purpose of the reported account is to harass or send abusive messages to others;
            if the reported behavior is one-sided or includes threats;
if the reported account is inciting others to harass another account; and
if the reported account is sending harassing messages to an account from multiple accounts.
Hateful conduct: You may not promote violence against or directly attack or threaten other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or disease. We also do not allow accounts whose primary purpose is inciting harm towards others on the basis of these categories.

          • gaycuckhubby

I dont think its a first amendment thing. I understand twitter can do what it wants.
I just dont want it to be super sanitized. I imagine they will suspend Chris Kluwe next and I loved his inventive, off colored, sexualized, triggering rants at public figures

          • gaycuckhubby

Or that time a drunk Louis CK went off on Palin. I guess that would be worthy of suspension jow

          • Scout

Well, it sounds like this is something that built up over time, rather than a “one time and you’re out” if that helps any. But there is so much bullying that goes on, and death threats etc., that I don’t think calling out people by name to get your followers riled up and threatening them should be tolerated . . . surely people can be inventive and clever without abusing others, i sure don’t have the answers

        • SoCalGal20

He targeted Don Lemon all last night and used slurs and abusive language. And he has done this A LOT. He should have been permanently banned a long time ago. Also, Don Lemon has been getting death threats from Stone and TRump groupies.

  • another_steve

This too shall pass. We’re living through a period here in the U.S. where evil is given free reign.

Evil isn’t ultimately useful to the continuance of our species. Read your history books, people.

At least the fascists are being exposed, out in the open, whereas the media turned a blind eye to these racist demonstrations a few years ago. They’ve always been around, they were just ignored, until Trump got elected.

  • SoCalGal20

Trump (or somebody with his twitter) seriously just tweeted this. Also I believe the show was a limited run.

Ok. That one was actually self-aware and funny.

In fact, it did not bomb at all. The show was a big success and made lots of money.

        • gaycuckhubby

          Good for Moore then!

Edit. Really glad Olbermann isn’t on MSNBC any longer

          • SoCalGal20

He’s planning to take the show on the road.

        • JAKvirginia

Yeah, Keith is right on both counts:
          – Limited run

Because Trump is not a President. And never will be, no matter how long he has the title.

  • This thread here feels like wishful thinking, but it’s an enjoyable daydream…
    https://twitter.com/TeaPainUSA/status/924395609238499333

    • The gist of it is Mueller indicts Trump on obstruction, setting off a possible chain of events resulting in impeachment.

Like I said, I don’t think it’s probable, but it was fun to entertain the notion it could happen.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

I really love the idea though wouldn’t put money on it.

      • Me neither.

        • Gianni

Not with the Republicans in control.

      • Among my reasons for skepticism:
        – Trump will flout any law he feels like ignoring
        – Trump would go ahead and try to pardon himself anyway and dare everyone to try to stop him
        – I remain unconvinced Congressional GOP is willing to remove him

        • Scout

          : (

        • Natty Enquirer

There is no established law that says Trump can’t pardon himself. The Constitution places no restriction on whom he may pardon. It would be political suicide, of course, and Trump could be compelled to testify thereafter.

It sure seems like there’s a very broad concerted effort at work here. Btwn Fox, the WSJ, multiple GOPers stepping forward…..sure seems like something is motivating them.

    • SoCalGal20

The report comes from The Hill and it’s only about the House Inel Committe. What they don’t say is that it’s Trump lackey Devin Nunes who issued the subpoena on his own. The entire article is written like it’s the full committee which we know it’s not. Maybe the committee started negotiating with Fusion after Nunes sent the subpoena. The entire thing is hot mess and the House Itelligence Committee is a joke right now.

      https://twitter.com/thehill/status/924410746297028610

      • Cuberly Deux

I’m confused. If that’s they case then why did they release a statement today?

“The parties have reached an agreement related to the House Intelligence Committee’s subpoena for Fusion GPS’s bank records that will secure the Committee’s access to the records necessary for its investigation,” a committee spokesperson said in a statement to reporters.”

        • SoCalGal20

The statement is about the agreement. I guess maybe once Nunes went off on his own the rest of the committee started negotiations with. Or maybe this is all Nunes and he put out the statement. Who even knows? AAll I know is that it was Nunes who subpoenaed them.

          • Cuberly Deux

Well, Mueller announced charges yesterday and the committee released their intent for a subpoena today. Makes me think Nunes’ original break w/ decorum may have swayed some of his GOPer critics on the committee.

OT: The dahlias are all dug, washed, and split as of today. The huge ones are Jennifer’s Wedding; I started with one, I ended up with about 9. The Blue Boy are in front of those. I had 3, I now have about 25. The small Sun Lady tubers are furthest front. From 4, I have about 30.

Half of these won’t survive the winter, so it’s always good to have many extras.

Either, but I’ve eaten them raw and they’re quite good that way. They taste like a sweet potato.

    • Paula

      How do you cook them?

      • Treant

Honestly? They’re edible. Peel and cook any way you would a potato. Baked, mashed, fries, and so on.

They’re a very close relative of the Jerusalem artichoke and the sunflower; all parts of the plant are edible, although only the tubers are usually consumed. They were a staple in the Aztec diet as dahlias require little other than rainfall and sun to do very well.

        • greenmanTN

I haven’t had yucca root in a while which, by the way, make really great latkes.

        • stuckinthewoods

Canna indica (Indian shot canna) are also apparently edible in the same way, whole plant but you probably wouldn’t want to. (Supposedly the seed is edible although it was called shot because they’re so hard they were used as buckshot….not that hungry.) Someone gave me a few rhizomes two years ago which were bigger than cultivar’s and they increased madly. Would look good in your back garden. Very tall grower here, and the profuse flowers held well as cut flowers. http://www.eattheweeds.com/canna-confusion/

          • Treant

I raised Red King Humbert cannas for years! They’re a great tropical touch in Pennsylvania, and easy to store over winter.

Once those aged out, I started rotating that section of garden year by year depending on what I was in the mood for.

          • stuckinthewoods

You can really see the relationship to ginger in these.
We’ve grown several canna cultivars and would never have suspected them (or dahlias) of being edible because deer haven’t eaten either. Someone who knew of our interest in hummingbirds gave us these species indica type, saying how attractive they were to hummingbirds, which we didn’t find. (His definition of many birds and ours diverge.) The roots we left in the ground survived last winter with no problem so I’m tempted to be lazy this year.

OT: And today’s soap adventure. Seven pounds of laundry soap, half lard, half tallow. The blue is ultramarine blue, the same bluing agent in commercial detergents and a commonly-used color for soap makers as it’s stable and very pretty. This has to be shredded, cured, and then combined with equal weight of sodium carbonate and half weight of borax. So I’ll end up with about 17 pounds of laundry soap out of it.

It’s also hyper-concentrated, so you use 1 tbsp per load. The picture below is about a year’s worth, for a grand total cost in the bucket of about $15.

I have another idea but…this one involves at least three different colorants, multiple layers, cutting, and using the result of one soap to make a second one. It’s hours worth of work for nine bars.

I see people expressing the notion “we are helpless and can do nothing” if Trump gets Mueller fired and the GOP refuses to act, thus sanctioning OBSTRUCTION; or if Trump, in effect, corruptly pardons himself and all his henchmen (thus basically placing himself and his cronies ABOVE the law, by forever pardoning any crimes they commit for his regime’s benefit–even perhaps ordering them, in future, to commit crimes for him with the promise of pardon if they get caught) and, again, the GOP does nothing.

If they behave in this way, their authority is FORFEIT; for they will be in violation of–will have totally undermined–the Constitution, the rule of law, their oaths of office; and YOU will be morally obliged to REJECT their forfeited “authority”; otherwise, you will be complicit with, aiding and abetting in, their COUP D’ÉTAT, the MURDER of the Republic.

Massive and relentless protests–on a scale with the Women’s March–would have to FORCE them to take action against the dictator, FORCE them to bring him and his henchmen to JUSTICE. Protests would have to PARALYZE an illegitimate government, bring government and the economic life of the country to a STANDSTILL, until the Constitution, the Rule of LAW, was once again RESPECTED.

Failure on the part of the American people to act in this way, in such circumstances, would constitute base submission to TYRANNY.

    • djcoastermark

I have a feeling a lot of people feel this way, they just don’t know how to gather in most of the country. People like SoCalG help people by getting the word out, now I too have knowledge as to where and when things might happen near me in advance so that I may ready myself and others.

      • billbear1961

I could not be more worried, dj.

If Trump’s lackeys fire Mueller and nothing is done to restore him to his position, if justice is grossly obstructed in that way, a coup WILL be underway.

If the people don’t protest relentlessly and massively in such circumstances, the Republic is LOST.

I am simply sick with worry for you all, and now on the verge of tears.

        • Back when, anybody who was famous, even if it was an open secret they were gay, were *always* portrayed in the media and print as if they were merely eccentric and funny.

For someone to come out in the 70s was a huge deal. And like I said, nobody famous ever did it because as soon as there was even a whiff of proof, it became a scandal and they were never seen again.

          • Conversations would go like this:
“You do know that Paul Lynde/Liberace/Charles Nelson Reilly/Richard Dawson is queer as a 3 dollar bill, right?”

“Don’t be silly. Besides if that was so, we’d see him with a boyfriend or lover or whatever it’s called.”

“They hide that stuff. We just don’t see it, except maybe as rumors in gossip magazines.”

“If he doesn’t have a boyfriend, then he’s not gay. There’s always a chance he’ll find the right woman then.”

The President is not supposed choose U.S. Attorneys. And I know we already knew this since word got out about Trump interviewing people for particular districts but here it is as NBC puts it:

Dana Boente, one of the nation’s most high-profile federal prosecutors, has submitted his resignation after he was asked to step down to make way for a successor to be named by President Donald Trump.

O/T – with the walls closing in Trump & Co. will be getting desperate. I fully expect he will give Sessy the ok to go after recreational pot in the states that have implemented it. I know Washington state is prepared to fight back if they do and we have a nice stock that we can get by on for a while. Just saw that both Colorado and Washington have already logged over $1.1B in sales so far this year. In WA that equals over $30M in taxes to the state and more to the local cities that have dispensaries. Be aware that Trump and Sessy are not so dumb as to go after medical pot (especially since DOJ is forbidden from law by doing so) but I expect they will crack down on recreational to distract the public from the increasing scandal.

she’s like some drunk hooker at a bar at 2am yelling at anyone who’s dumb enough to listen.

      • Guess?

You could save a few words and just say “she’s a republican.”

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

Honestly, Rupert Murdoch should be accused of fucking stalking Hillary because I can’t see how what Faux News does is that different from a stalker: obsessively thinking about her, making up bullshit to get people to turn against her, etc.

Yes, that’s a beautiful ballpark. It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been there. Maybe next year. I have good memories of watching the Giants at Candlestick, cold and windy as it was.

          • Friday

If someone replaced Fenway with some kind of AmazonMegaStadium, baseball would be officially over.

          • JCF

I understand re sentimental attachments to Fenway (indeed, to almost any older structure—I’m one of those annoying historic preservationist types, who instinctively reacts “WHY?!” to tearing down buildings).

But sentiment is not aesthetics. So when I hear [whatever Houston’s stadium is called now—I remember when it was “Enron”! :-o] called “fugly”, and then compared to *Fenway*, I gotta question the standard of fugliness. Cuz that Green Monster thing just ain’t innately attractive (historically rich though it be).

      [email protected]@@@@[email protected][email protected][email protected]!!!!

Whenever I hear about the opioid crisis I find myself flummoxed. Why is this being treated as something that needs to be treated with compassion, a trend towards treatment and education.

WHERE THE FUCK HAS THAT COMPASSION AND TREATMENT BEEN ALL THIS [email protected]!#!312#[email protected]

Even then, the racial component makes me see red, but where is the push to stop the corporate drug pushers? It’s non-existent!

      • TampaDink

As was pointed out on the latest “Real Time with Bill Mahr”, the difference is that the opioid epidemic is largely effecting white people.

        • canoebum

And the pushers are Big Pharma.

          • TampaDink

Yup…..and the doctors that they pay to prescribe.

          • “Why are are millions of doses of Oxy being sent to this tiny town in West Virginia? And last week, it was a tiny town in Florida. Before that, rural Idaho.”

“Don’t ask questions. Just pack the semi-trucks.”

    • Similarly: No wave of compassion when we learned that MJ prohibition was imposed for PURELY racist reasons. That they’ve been lying for generations now about it being dangerous, addictive, causing crime/insanity, and/or having any kind of overdose risk. That there was no reason other than racism and politics for classifying it as a Schedule 1 narcotic with no beneficial uses whatsoever and equal to heroin in every way.

Yet a very large number of America’s prisoners, most of them people of color, are in there for nothing other than MJ possession.

Sure, nowadays the strains are more powerful than they used to be. And yes, regulation is needed. And yes, people will Have A Bad Time by being a newbie and using too much too fast. But nobody has ever died from an MJ overdose. Ever. While psychological dependency can develop—just as it can develop for caffeine or other substances—there is no risk of physical dependency.

So where is the compassion and the realization that MJ prohibition laws were racially enacted and to this day racially enforced, and that most of the people behind bars now on MJ convictions should be released and their records expunged?

      • don

“Sure, nowadays the strains are more powerful than they used to be. And yes, regulation is needed. And yes, people will Have A Bad Time by being a newbie and using too much too fast. But nobody has ever died from an MJ overdose. Ever”

One could say the same about booze. Except for that last line, of course!

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

I remember the media way back when. I don’t watch much TV news or much TV nowadays but I doubt news channels are posting vids of white addicts injecting or smoking drugs right on camera, saying, “Smack, smack, smack” 24-7 on TV, going out of their way to make them look like congenitally pathological losers who are hopeless and should be buried already.

Mr. Pierce is right when he says there was no compassion during the crack epidemic. I don’t remember that much talk about treatment or how X had screwed them over back then.

In comparison, we already have commenters to the tweet trying to push everything on Big Pharma and doctors when it comes to the current opioid crisis so they don’t have to see white addicts and black addicts as having anything in common and to push the narrative that only white addicts are victims of big, bad forces out of their control.

      • JCF

(Black) “Crack Ho”: blight on neighborhoods! Thieves! Disease! Take her kids away! (maybe the kids are already super-predators!)

(White) “Opioid Victim”: Get her some help—so she can stay with/be reunited to her precious children.

(Black) “Crack Junkie/Thug”: Lock him up—throw away the key! (If he deals, execute him)

(White) “Opioid Victim”: Aw, get him in-patient treatment (preferably spa-like setting). Then help him get/keep a job (no stigma).

        That about it?

    • Friday

Obviously, things Rush drooled while on Oxy and railing about ‘being tough on drugs’ are now Republicon orthodoxy, but there isn’t *even* a ‘wave of compassion’ ….just more lipservice and blame from the same Republicans.

    • Yeah, well, the Republican/Trump tax cut bill is nothing but a biggest upward transfer of wealth they’ve ever proposed. The poor and middle class are soaked in order to pay for about half of what they propose to give to the rich…with the remainder left in trillion dollar deficits.

Then, next year they’ll point to the deficits as reason to cut still more programs, benefits and other stuff from the poor and middle class.

The only good thing will be that all those people who have been electing right-wing Republicans for years will (may) finally realize that they totally screwed themselves. There will be a ruling class (e.g., Betsy DeVos), and servants (i.e., the rest of us).

        • BartmanLA

Sadly there’s not enough people willing to stand up and actually do something to change the status quo in this country. Most either don’t want to be bothered with it, or worse think they can ignore it and it won’t affect them in anyway. It’s the classic head in the sand routine. How many times have you heard someone you know say “Oh it’s pointless to object or speak up, nothing is going to change, the system in Washington DC doesn’t respond to ordinary people, you have to have billions to be heard”? And now the divisive nature of the left and right is so huge that there’s no way they could come together to fight any issue or problem that Trump of his administration throws at us.

    • Lazycrockett

how old is your pc? laptop?

      • zherazhera

PC. About six years old. Windows 10 or whatever the latest version is called. The web browsers just collapse and I get a warning about ‘not enough memory’.

        • Lazycrockett

          what browser?

          • zherazhera

I use mainly Firefox but all browsers crash.
I had the exact same problem a month ago. The tech guys fixed it (but messed up other things). Everything was fine until yesterday when suddenly it went back to pre-serviced status.

        • David L. Caster

You really need at least 16 gigs of main memory for a modern MS Windows platform to perform satisfactorily. I run 32 gigs in my box just to be sure.

          • zherazhera

There’s no lack of memory as far as I can tell. It doesn’t make sense.

          • David L. Caster

            What processor and graphics board?

          • zherazhera

Sorry, I don’t speak that language. 😉 I’m just a lowly ignoramus when it comes to computers.

          • Treant

I manage on 4…now 6…gigs. My husband works well on 8. Mind, right now I’m whirling my drives to swap files as I do this and Divinity Original Sin II, but it does work…

          • David L. Caster

Yeah, that would never fly for me. I do this stuff for a living and my computers have to contend with software development tools plus the applications and tools I use. I build my own now for that reason.

Memory is so inexpensive these days there is no reason to deal with a poorly provisioned or underpowered computer. It’s just not worth the frustration if you can avoid it. Money you spend getting other people to make your machine work is better spent on a better machine.

          • Treant

Er…actually I also do this for a living and don’t have much of an issue. But programming tools usually aren’t that demanding. I even do graphics work and photo editing with no issues whatsoever.

As noted, I wouldn’t bother upgrading this box any longer; I’d devote it to being a network file server, relegate it to the basement, and buy a new one.

          • David L. Caster

Understood. Good plan. I do VM (as in runtime engine) development for an OO programming system and need to be able to run a largish application development system sitting on top of it and the application itself. Plus Visual Studio.

I also have a high end engineering drafting system (SolidWorks) that I use and MS office components have to be active for it. This is on Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate. Between all of this stuff and a browser with lots of open pages for references, I can use all of the 32 gigs I have installed. I need to be able to run builds in seconds and be able to debug them.

            What can I say, it’s a living.

        • Treant

Do you have your virtual memory set up? You can get a memory crash if VM is 0 but you still have tons of RAM. It happens if the commit charge goes past available RAM.

          • zherazhera

I have no idea. This is why I pay for service. They better get it right this time!

        • Lazycrockett

There is no reason for a memory lose while browsers. This is weird.

          • Treant

Not unless you have 40 tabs open.

            Uh…guilty, sometimes… 🙂

          • zherazhera

At the most I have three or four tabs open. Now the browser crashes before I get that far!

          • Treant

Yeah…no. 🙂 Four tabs won’t even stress a machine older than mine. And as noted, mine’s absolutely ancient because I detest upgrading unless I absolutely need to.

          • zherazhera

Thank you! That’s what I was thinking and it’s good to have it confirmed. I have suspected a problem with the graphic card or whatever, because for a long time there’s been an issue with gifs and video.

        • boobert

Did you upgrade to 10 from 7? 10 must be removed and you’ll loose everything.

          • zherazhera

            I did. Hmm

          • boobert

We did a free upgrade and it destroyed the computer. Geek squad wiped it clean and put 7 back in. They said DO NOT put 10 again. It was about $120.

          • zherazhera

Thanks, I’ll mention that to the tech guys.

          • Treant

You did mention that this was concurrent with graphical issues. I’m going to presume that it didn’t happen at the same time you upgraded to Windows 10.

We should note I run a dual-boot system; Windows 10 to keep my license active. Windows 7 because Windows 10 sucks, calls home too often, and doesn’t tell me what it’s transmitting to Microsoft. I hate to accuse, but 10 feels like it sucks intentionally to sell new computers that are “faster.” You don’t need faster, you need an operating system that does not hog resources.

          • zherazhera

Yeah the graphic problem is old, like several years old. I was happy with windows 7. Don’t remember why I upgraded.

          • JCF

My new machine came w/ 10: I don’t think downgrading is possible, is it?

          • boobert

If it came with 10 it’s okay. It was the 7 to 10 upgrade that causes problems.

        • Treant

I just checked Chrome, which is a memory hog. I have three tabs open at the moment, and I’m sucking down about 400 Mb of memory.

Which, if your machine were ancient (it isn’t), you’d probably have 4 Gb. Minimum. Assuming it’s the only thing running other than the operating system, you should be skating along with half your memory completely idle.

Even my ancient box (it’s ten years old) can work with a large game, the Chrome browser, my e-mail application (I hate Web-based e-mail), Quicken, and my soap database. Been there, done that, didn’t even slow down.

          Something is very not right.

    • shellback

My OS is Linux (Ubuntu 16.04) which runs smooth as silk. I use Pale Moon for my browser – it’s lightweight and built on Firefox without the bloat. In fact, you’d hardly know it wasn’t Firefox. It will even use many of Firefox add-ons. I’ll never use windows again, nor Firefox for that matter. Just saying.

      2. It’s better to have 20 pounds of extra food for a party than a tablespoon too little.
      3. Growing plants with your own hands is satisfying and meaningful.
      4. Tea is meant to be served cold and sweet.
      5. Your sister and your cousin may be the same person, but it’s because your mama raised her when your aunt died.
      6. It’s okay to talk to strangers in the grocery store.
      7. Your Granny’s zucchini bread recipe is sacred.
      8. You can call your parents Mama and Daddy no matter how old you are without sounding creepy or codependent.
      9. If my house catches on fire, someone better save my granny’s rocking chair.
      10. There isn’t much in life more important than good manners.
      11. It’s never a problem if you bring someone unexpected to Thanksgiving dinner at my house, and I will always have a few spare gifts ready at Christmas just in case someone brings a friend who had nowhere else to go for the holidays.
      12. The adages “If it’s not one thing, it’s your mother” and “If at first you don’t succeed, you should have listened to your mother” are equally true.
      13. You spend your youth waiting to escape the dirt roads, and the rest of your life going back to them when the asphalt is too much to bear.
      14. Blood doesn’t make a family.
      15. Southern pride is all well and good as long as you take pride in the right things: the beauty of our mountains, true hospitality to strangers and neighbors alike, and a rich history and work ethic of people who eeked out a living from the dirt making something from nothing.

My Southern Heritage also means that I take no pride in ancestors who enslaved human beings and fought a war killing their fellow man to protect the right to subjugate those people. I also take no pride in more recent history when the descendants of those slaves continued to face discrimination and oppression under Jim Crow laws. Finally, I take no pride in my fellow Southerners who even now have such warped beliefs that they wrap themselves in bigotry and hate and call it patriotism, Christianity, and family values.

These people know nothing about heritage, and they do not represent me or many others as Southerners. We will continue to raise our voices in protest while they shout at the wind.

Isn’t it weird. Less than 10 months ago, little children weren’t afraid of the President of the USA. In fact, they seemed to quite like him.

  • Rebecca Gardner

Dotard has made some really weird tweets today. He must be really scared about tomorrow. Good!

JD Gordon? Hell, even I don’t know all the players co-conspirators!

        Wasn’t he a Watergate plumber?

        • William

          That was G Gordon Liddy.

I gotta say… I’m surprised that there hasn’t been a leak about who will be indicted tomorrow

    • Reality.Bites

Mueller’s team was handpicked and presumably made up of people in whom he has the utmost trust. I’d expect any leaks to be deliberate and if I were Mueller I wouldn’t want anyone sleeping easily tonight in the White House.

      • gaycuckhubby

How did we find out about this upcoming indictment? Was it a leak or did Mueller announce it? I’m honestly not sure.

        • Adam King

          A careful “leak.”

          • Reality.Bites

Trump thinks that’s when it all lands on the mattress, none on the floor.

Same, I’d have thought at least one of the jurors would have talked to a friend, who talked to a journalist…

It’s either not big enough, or it’s so big that the jurors are in a state of mind that prevents them from talking about who is going to be arrested because they’re enjoying the ride.

(I once knew something that the media would have loved to report, but the knowledge of that thing, and the ability to keep it a secret was amusing enough to me that I didn’t say anything. Although, in comparison, that thing was so very very very very very minor…)

      • TuuxKabin

Want to tell all? Or statute of limitations?

        • Karl Dubhe

          No. 🙂

Like I said, I found it amusing to keep it a secret. And I find that I still can.

I’ll say that it had to do with the funeral of my father, he’d have been amused by it as well. It made the funeral bearable for the family as well.

          • TuuxKabin

My father died in October . . . 19 years ago. HubCap and I sprinkled some chiltipin seeds on his grave. From his garden plant. Next year niece arrives to visit and tells us ‘Gramps is pushin’ up chilitipin.’ We kept seeds and had a couple of seasons of his chili. Still do,but seeds from Tucson.

Every now and then I have a fleeting moment where I’m glad (for her sake) that Clinton isn’t President.

Then I remember SCOTUS and ACA and NK and I banish the thought

      • Ernest Endevor

I know, in one sense it would have been worse.

    • ZRAinSWVA

I am so sick of this nonsense. I am so angry at those people who don’t bother to think for themselves, and just take as truth whatever blather they hear. All I can say, is I hope Monday is bright and beautiful…and someone(s) goes to jail from the tRump camp! (Of course, the howls of outrage from the extreme right will be terrible to hear, and they’ll assuredly be preaching insurrection and social chaos.)

      While not at all presidential

Yeah, because saying that is necessary about anything the douchebag usurper says or does.

      • Gretchen

When has he ever done anything “presidential”? He certainly hasn’t met the standards set by the ones who came before him even the awful ones like Jackson and Nixon.

Take care! I hope it doesn’t cause too many problems.

    • ZRAinSWVA

We had torrential rains and hellacious winds in SW VA last night. The pounding of the rain on the windows and roof made it impossible to sleep…and course, satellite TV and internet was offline, good thing being that I’d just gotten a fresh batch of magazines. (Pacific Standard does fantastic, in-depth reporting, typically not on current news but rather current issues: homelessness, hunger, inequality…in this one, the international trade on body parts; you should check it out!)

      • TuuxKabin

It’s good to have a few magazine subscriptions, hold something in your hand to read. Turning pages. Thanks for the Pacific Standard info. Will look into it. We’re next on the path of the storm.

            “I’ve come totake you home”
            “Which connections I should cut”

            Basically a coming out/love story

          • TuuxKabin

Also spiritual. A gathering of us.

    • Dazzer

It’s past midday in London and I’ve had an early lunch (chicken tikka curry) and when I’m not drowsing on the soafa I’m staring out one of the back windows that overlooks a hand car wash.

Most of the guys that work there are young, attractive and middle-European. They never start doing the things you see in gay porn – but I live in hope.

Apart from that, I’m just having a lazy day. The most exercise I’m getting is making cups of tea, breaking open packets of chocolate biscuits and growling at the dog – who has perfected the art of farting and snoring loudly at the same time.

      • TuuxKabin

Don’t know which I’m most envious of. Miss having a dogfriend.

      • gaycuckhubby

        Now I’m craving curry!

        • Dazzer

The dog begged for some. But I only allow her curry if we’re going on a long walk. Otherwise, when she farts it smells like mouldy joss sticks and you need a week of leaving the windows open to get rid off the the stench.

          • gaycuckhubby

            Me too. Tbh

    • Gretchen

I’m recovering from stuffing 20 people into my very small house after our planned bonfire was rained out. I had a lot of fun, but lord I’m tired and sore today. I’m going to spend my day in the new bed eating leftover peanut butter fudge and catching up on Food Network’s Halloween shows. It’s a pretty perfect day in my opinion.

      • gaycuckhubby

        Sounds great to me!
I can’t wait to get home and see my husband and have a quiet night at home

        • Gretchen

There are some things about growing older that I really like; it takes much less money and effort for me to have fun now than when I was younger.

  • SoCalGal20

“white lives matter” white supremacists (nothing superior about them) just have to steal from every other culture because they have none of their own. Not a single free thinker in the lot of them.
