On The Next Episode Of White House Apprentice…

The Financial Times reports:

Donald Trump took to social media on Friday evening to tease next week’s grand reveal of his nominee to chair the Federal Reserve. In a video on Instagram, Mr Trump said the nominee “will be a person who hopefully will do a fantastic job.”

“I have somebody very specific in mind,” he continued. “I think everybody will be very impressed. But most importantly I think at the end of eight years you really will be impressed, because thing are looking good. They’re looking good for our country, and they’re looking good for our country’s economy.”

Big announcement next week! Together, we will MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! #USA

I once drank a 26er of that in 45 minutes. I was young, felt I’d never truly been drunk and took it as a challenge. And by young : 16 to 18.

Ah, it was a hilarious night. Took me exactly ten years to be able to drink Tequila again. But, well. I soldiered on. (raises glass) Never let it be said I’m a quitter.

My local Mexican restaurant offers five versions of Margaritas – everything from premium tequila to tequila extracted from mouse urine.

I’m old and seasoned in these things.

My time was at 17,Memorial day weekend at Westscotts State Park/campground and within days of my family moving to the west coast from upstate NY.I brought a case of champagne, others brought beer and wine. Sometime during the night I managed to park the ’64Ford Ranch Wagon in a camp space,3people sleeping sitting up,4 of us sacked out in the back. About 4 AM I need to use the bathroom, not sick. The stalls had no doors, open to whoever walking by. I wake up about 10:30-11 AM with people walking by to use the showers and whatnot. I’m leaning on the privacy wall between stalls. I could barely lift my sore ass off the seat. Slow walked back to the car. Couple whose camp space I parked in ” I’ll bet you could use some coffee”. For many years I limited myself to 2 drinks. Raises a garden fresh glass of gazpacho heavily lace with vodka.

The person not qualified, and who will probably be nominated, is Kevin Warsh. The person who’s definitely qualified but will not be re-nominated is Janet Yellen.

  • No, I’m anxiously waiting to find out whether within six months or less we’ll be in a nuclear war and/or nationwide martial law in the US will have been declared.

Or if Trumpers will finally be indicted, impeached, and one-by-one frogmarched off to prison.

My hope for the latter outcome dies a little more each day.

Ahhh, hope. I was once filled with it.

      • another_steve

The trajectory is ominous for Trump and his cronies.

        Two primary reasons:

        (1) We still have a free press here in the US; and

        (2) Demographics. Hispanics are the fastest growing demographic in the United States. Plus, my generation – the generation of the
        dinosaurs – is dying out.

Young people growing up today won’t vote Republican 15 or 20 years from now.

        • David Walker

And to add to your demographics point, the influx of American citizens from Puerto Rico is already bigly and more people are expected here day by day…and all because the fucking moron didn’t bother to lift a finger to help in their time of need. I would like to live long enough to see the Hispanic/ Puerto Rican influence on our politics.

    MY FANTASY

One Friday, Kellyanne is giving a live interview. She starts to foam at the mouth. Then clutches her neck. And falls over. Dead. An autopsy reveals that a dental bridge dislodged while she spewed out alternative facts in quick succession and choked her.

The next Friday, Mitch McConnell steps out of his car on a busy street, trips, falls into the road, and is run over by a truck.

The next Friday, Sean Hannity, surreally, spontaneously combusts while sitting in his make-up chair. “He just exploded”, says his assistant.

The next Friday, Tony Perkins books a small charter plane. Just him and the pilot. When the plane arrives at its destination, the pilot cannot find Perkins. It appears that Perkins just vanished during the flight. His followers are heard whispering: The Rapture.

The following Monday, Rachel Maddow gives a report on this strangeness. “For the last four consecutive Fridays a major GOP leader has died. WHAT s going on? WHAT does this mean?” Her report explodes across social media. And America awaits, breathlessly, for the following Friday.

    Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

That Friday, at precisely 2:20PM, John Kelly, while visiting a training exercise at West Point, is killed in a freak accident when a bullet ricochetes off a street lamp, then a manhole, and strikes Kelly.

That night, the Maddow show receives its highest ever ratings. “SOMETHING is killing off the GOP! Is it GOD?”

The following Tuesday, shoppers at a Washington, DC, Walmart are startled to discover notices placed under the windshield wipers of the cars. The notices read:

    Do The Right Thing…OR DIE

    RIP: ConwayMcConnellHannityPerkinsKelly

The next morning, DC drivers are stunned to see dozens of billboards stating:

    Do The Right Thing…OR DIE

    RIP: ConwayMcConnellHannityPerkinsKelly

    The international media goes nuts.

On Thursday, Congress is in session. A GOP congressman nervously brings up the issue on everybody’s mind. Timidly, he says, “I propose that we pass a resolution acknowledging global warming”. Much debate ensues. The measure passes by a single vote.

    The international media goes nuts.

Friday morning begins. The whole world waits. WHO will die? The day ends. But no high-ranking GOP member dies.

The following Tuesday, another GOP resolution is proposed: The GOP should support and strengthen the ACA.

    The resolution does not pass.

Friday morning begins. Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

At 1:23PM, Robert and Rebekah Mercer vanish when a massive sinkhole opens under their car while it waits at a traffic light. Sixteen minutes later, Besty DeVos falls down a staircase in front of hundreds of people. And is pronounced dead at the scene.

The international media goes nuts. That night, Maddow receives the highest ratings in television history.

On Monday, a GOP resolution is proposed: Sexual orientation should be protected against discrimination.

The world waits. Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock.

Friday begins. The day is frozen as few people go to work, shop, or dine out. Everybody is glued to the news. But Friday passes. And no GOP dies.

For the next month, Democrats propose one stunningly progressive measure after another, which the GOP votes to support. Praise is heaped upon Congress. Trump, furious at being left out, tweets his huuuuge support.

And during these four consecutive Fridays, nobody GOP dies.

The next week, Thursday, the Tea Party, livid at what is happening, rams through a draconian series of far-right bills. The world gasps.

The next day, at 7:02AM, a member of the Tea Party is driving his car, swerves to avoid, inexplicably, a clown standing in the road, and drives off a cliff. By 5:35PM, four other Tea Party members have all also died in freak accidents.

An emergency session of Congress is called. And during the next six days the most progressive bills and policies EVER are all approved in resounding 100% votes.

    The world applauds.

      My fantasy (a short story):
      1. Kellyanne Conman makes a yuuuuge bowl of chicken salad.
      2. She goes to bed, forgetting to put it in the fridge.
      3. 4 days later, she finds it, still on the kitchen counter, and brings it to the Oval Office (it’s her turn to bring lunch to work, because Chump is such a fucking stinge).
      4. Chump, Pence(il dick), Bitch, Ryan, (insert name(s) of any/all other person(s) you can’t fucking stand here), etc. all partake liberally.
      5. They assume that the resulting, agonizing stomach pains are just due (as usual) to the cheap, rot-gut “champagne” that Chump serves.
      6. Finally, they send an aide to every pharmacy in town…
      7. …only to learn that ALL antibiotics have been bought/sent to Puerto Rico by a group of kind-hearted people who read a certain fabulous gay blog.
      8. They are then rushed, via ambulance, to the nearest hospital…
      9. …only to learn that, due to millions of people losing their insurance, the rooms, beds, hallways, and exam rooms are ALL overflowing, and that there will be a wait of approximately 37 hours.
      10. THE END (in more ways than one)
(Okay, maybe it wasn’t THAT short(!)

So if they were doing Opposition research why didn’t they do the right thing and inform the Republican Party and the people about the findings

      • a win is a win, no matter the cost?

      • Because Trump began sealing up the nomination even before it was done.

        – Funding starts in fall of 2015, when it did look like Jeb, Rubio, or Kasich or some other sane-ish GOPer would surely be the nominee
        – By mid March 2016, all but Kasich and Cruz had dropped out and neither was accorded a serious chance of winning
        – Research stops.
        – A couple months later, the DNC picks it up runs a distance, but again does not complete it…but based on early info, they realized there were grave national security implications, thus they notified the Obama administration and the FBI.
        – Unfortunately, it appears the FBI looked at the allegations and decided there wasn’t enough proof to look further. Again, the dossier wasn’t completed for some time yet
        – The full report was not completed until December 2016, which Steele did on his own because he felt there were grave implications in letting Trump take office

    • Never forget the WHY the opposition research was funded: Because Republican conservatives were terrified Donald would win the nomination and they wanted the means to stop him.

Their preference all along was Jeb, or failing him, someone like Rubio or Kasich. Basically conservative establishment guys who wouldn’t rock the boat too much but eagerly support the entire usual GOP wish-list.

A short film of a great short story.

      https://vimeo.com/8212654

“Based on a short story by F. Paul Wilson, “Foet” finds pro-lifer Denise (Maraneck), a frumpy woman who seems to envy almost any other women on the streets of New York City, as she becomes obsessed with a handbag she sees a woman carrying. It’s one of those things only a girl can understand, really, the way a bag can just speak to you and you know you have to have it no matter what.

The dilemma, however, occurs when Denise discovers what the bag is made of; the skin of aborted fetuses. Obviously this flies in the face of what she believes about herself and the world around her and when she finally accepts the truth of the bag’s material, she is disgusted and outraged. Just not for very long…”

      • Dazzer
        • greenmanTN

I sent the short story to my brother, the A-gay fashion maven, because to me it’s about fashion, they way people ‘speak’ non-verbally though their clothes and accessories. In the story/film the handbags are sold from hidden rooms, not in the open, so having one is like joining a secret society, and the carriers look upon each other with approval and shared knowledge.

I first read it in a series of short story collections called Borderlands. The rule for the series is no ghosts, vampires, werewolves, zombies, etc etc etc, and by getting away from the horror tropes they go for disquieting, disturbing stories, complex and often morally ambiguous. There are some I remember decades later. (I collect ‘horror’ short story collections.)

This might interest you, an old ‘non-fiction’ collection of British haunted houses. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/fde28c785931275f2fe91cb9b7866f958653cd2d640dd1b05e31128eb51a53ba.jpg

I do want to make the candy corn soap, though, someday. I don’t do MP much, though I might be able to translate this to the type I create.

Sorry; Melt and Pour. Already-made clear (or not!) soap base that you melt, color, scent, and pour. You have no control over the characteristics of the soap, unlike mine where I can adjust whether it’s Highly Cleansing or Gentle or anywhere in the middle, and choose the lather produced.

  • At least one expert believes we’ll start seeing Mueller indictments before Thanksgiving.

    https://twitter.com/DearAuntCrabby/status/924071862648365057

    • Key quotes:

(Juliette) Kayyem told Boston Public Radio that “I think it is safe to say that before Thanksgiving … something’s going to drop with Mueller. The pace is too much right now. Every 12 hours we’re now dealing with a piece of this story at a pace we haven’t seen.”

She also said that “this is so close to the Oval Office now, if not in the Oval Office, that all of this [dossier news] to me is just background noise to what Mueller is going to deliver. This is more than an obstruction charge. There is something big underlying the obstruction.”

      • As reported upthread, ‘sealed indictments’ are now being reported.

This means a whole lot of things. Including the fact Mueller and his team don’t want the as-yet-unindicted to know who’s been caught in the snare.

Too bad the media had to play along with him.

      • GayOldLady

        He probably does

      • Perhaps. Could also just be that Mueller told the guy technically his boss, Rod Rosenstein, that he planned to file charges late in the week.

    • That, and this week’s truly insane gusher of gas-lighting lies from the WH and GOPers about the Steele dossier and the whole collusion thing.

It really was way more than usual.

      • Lizard

And it seemed to come right the fuck out of the nowhere, too. This scoop makes more and more sense.

      • GayOldLady

It was Way over the top gaslighting

I imagine he’ll just whip out one of those telescopic batons and smack Donald’s balls. I’m sure he has good aim for such a small target.

    • Natty Enquirer

I wouldn’t trust him not to push the button himself, you know, just to make us sacred again.

      • JCF

        “sacred again”

        Holy cleansing radioactive fire?

Or did you just mean to type “scared”? O_o

        • Natty Enquirer

Did you forget this apocalyptic tone of his?

“You know, when I was a kid growing up, a lot of things were sacred in our country. Women were sacred, looked upon with great honor. That’s obviously not the case anymore as we see from recent cases. Life — the dignity of life — is sacred. That’s gone. Religion, that seems to be gone as well.”

Speculation we’re hearing about the possible Monday arrests to give parties involved last chance to flip over weekend. My thought = they ain’t flippin’

  • Sam_Handwitch

yeah rachel is talking about Boente quitting as us attorney

      thanks
they did an excellent job of putting this together

  • Leo

WAIT. Mueller knows Trump’s conducting attorney interviews for EDVA and SDNY which is completely unorthodox to derail the investigation and possible charges.

WAIT. The timing with Boente quitting and first charges. Not. a. coincidence.

Um, Drumpf should be staffing the washing machine, too.

Hope we get Lawrence tonight and not boring stinky Ari.

      Friday night in NYC.

  • bkmn

Dear Dir. Mueller, please don’t forget to include Fox News for colluding with Trump, at some point in time.

  • Hank

Listening to Rachel. Does anyone know if Dana Boente just quit as ADA of the Eastern District of VA or from ALL of his jobs?? It is not clear from what Rachel has said…. or I missed it, as I get ready to hit a Bar in Wilton Manors! Any Clarification???

    • Sam_Handwitch

i think she said only that he’d quit as us attorney

    • Leo

The timing is not a coincidence. That combined with Trump conducting attorney interviews recently.

      • Hank

Forgot about that. It DOES make sense. Boente sounds, like a Comey sort of career lawyer.

    • JCF

She said that, a couple of days ago, he was all “I can’t WAIT to get back to the Eastern District!”

…and then tonight, he’s OUT at Eastern District. Make of that what you will. >:-/

  • Lazycrockett

I would love these two just talking for the next hour.

    Monday Is Mueller Mischief Night!
    Trick or Treat or Indictment!

    • safari

Michigan reporting. It’s called “Devil’s Night”. All pets should be brought in. Forces of dozens if not hundreds per mid to large size towns are put on citizens patrol with walkie talkies and direct access to emergency services.

      It stopped the burnings.

      • I used to live in Detroit – queen city of Devil’s Night. 25 or so years ago local little darlings lit up a garage about 6 or 7 houses down the ally from mine. The flames burned through both phone and cable lines but fortunately not the power lines. The phone company was out the next day to repair their line so no need to call them. Comcast was a different story. I called and explained what happened to the person answering the phone…I know they have to read from a script, but when I was asked “Was my TV plugged in?” I repeated what happened only to be asked “Was my cable box plugged in?” Getting frustrated I repeated for a third time what actually took place the night before only to be met with even more inane questions. I asked to speak with that person’s supervisor and then had to go through the same exact irritating and annoying scenario repeating what happened to the cable line a fourth, fifth and sixth time so I asked to speak to someone even higher up the chain…again I was completely ignored and was asked the same set of questions that did not need to be asked. “Is your TV plugged in and turned on? Is your cable box plugged in, connected to the TV and turned on? Is your TV set to the correct channel?…” Needless to say by this time I was furious and had raised my voice loud enough to be heard in Lansing probably. The last Comcast idiot finally said that a tech would be sent out to check out not the cable line that burned up down the street but my cable box, the line from the utility pole to my house etc etc my last shouted message was THE TECH DOESN’T NEED TO COME TO MY HOUSE HE NEEDS TO GO TO THE BURNED OUT GARAGE DOWN THE ALLEY!
I was in my studio that overlooked the alley so I noticed when the tech arrived the next day (what quick and efficient service -NOT!) he looked from the utility pole to my house back and forth back and forth, then he glanced down the alley and I could almost see the light bulb go on in his mind…getting into his truck he then drove down to the exact spot I told Comcast at least fifteen times to go to
The next day I called DirecTV and switched providers. I will never use Comcast again.

I’d settle for a treat from her medicinal candy drawer.

      • Yeah, I’d give anything to be in Denver tonight.

        • safari

There are about 70 medical marijuana facilities in Lansing for a population of 115k. The city prosecutor and mayor turned the other way since they are technically not legal until sometime in 2018. I don’t have a card, though, and don’t want to play the game to get one.

          • fuzzybits

People here are going nuts wanting to become grow sites since they legalized medical mary jane.

          • safari

It’s de-facto legal in the city of Lansing as far as I can tell. There are doctors that’ll approve a card, and until next year the regulations for the open shops don’t exist. Even then, I suspect enforcement will be light since everyone is positioning for full legalization except those few politicians that want to make a point to their stupid base.

          • safari

The city’s only concern is to limit the number of shops (which is stupid since it’s turned *many* vacant buildings/outlets into thriving businesses) and the strange obsession about being near a church or school.

          • safari

The fun thing, though, is that the new city attorney can’t recommend any changes to local law since they’d be technically regulating a business that isn’t legal yet.

          • fuzzybits

Same here. There were a couple groups fighting for full legalization but it went down in flames.

  • bkmn

So will Trump go golfing this weekend or will he spend the weekend stewing and acting out? My guess is stewing and acting out.

Golfing at Mar-A-Lago! The weather cooled off down here the last few days!!

They have/are piling on the criminality and corruption and treason so fast and furiously and endlessly and continuously – the intention is to stun us into sheer paralysis the way a poison fish does to its prey

With Mueller acting on behalf of the rule of law, we’re about to see whether he and what we knew as America still have the strength to prevail over Putin’s bought mob in the WH and congress

      Diggin’ her tonight on MSNBC.

    • safari

It is such a stupid distraction. The sale was approved for something like a half to a full dozen agencies, and there isn’t any reason to think we don’t have enough other supplies of uranium for national defense. We literally have weapons-grade plutonium waiting for processing since we made a large amount of it during the cold war and never ended up using it.

      • bkmn

Wasn’t the ‘sale’ technically the sale of a Canadian owned uranium processing company to someone in Russia?

        • safari

You’re making me care about the details of a resource that is rare but highly valued so people will produce it anywhere they can at great expense for all parties.

Round 1 – I hope Round 2 includes Trump Junior for colluding with Russia, along with the Mercers

      • ‘Collusion’ itself isn’t technically a crime.

Money laundering is. As is lying on financial disclosure and security clearance forms. As is obstructing an investigation. As is making false statements to investigators. As is failing to register as a foreign agent. As is doing business with sanctioned financial entities such as Russian banks.

Those and probably more that I can think of will be the basis of the charges against the Trump inner circle if/when they come.

        • Natty Enquirer

And most importantly, conspiracy to do any of these things, including stealing emails.

WHY DID DANA BOENTE JUST SUDDENLY RESIGN. That’s the lynchpin. That’s literally the #1 concern above everything else right now with this investigation.

Rachel hinted at possibilities but I wasn’t satisfied completely with her speculation.

He was the witness to Comey/Trump, Trump nominated him…doesn’t want to be a witness? I don’t buy it. I don’t know whether to trust he had best intentions or not.

        • Leo

Sessions’ recused so who then currently in place would be?

          • ultragreen

            As I already said, Rosenstein.

          • Leo

So he wouldn’t quit before hand or I guess we just wait to find out where his loyalties lie? sorry, I’ve had a little bit too much wine.

          • ultragreen

Rosenstein was the person who appointed Mueller. He wouldn’t fire Mueller just because indictments have been issued in the investigation, if his past comments and reputation are any indication.

          • Natty Enquirer

Who knows. Sessions might un-recuse himself.

      • Ordinarily. But with this WH? They ignore any law or reg they don’t feel like following.

Is Bork still alive? Or maybe Gorsuch, out of gratitude, will take it upon himself to delay justice. It didn’t work for Nixon, it ultimately won’t work for the fucking moron…I hope, I hope, I hope. Ah, who am I kidding? I gave up on hope sometime during the summer.

O/T Trump is crippling the 2020 Census – PBS Newshour tonight.

The bad news is, it’s not being funded, and we currently don’t have a leader. We don’t have a director in the Census Bureau, so we’re not ready in that more important sense.

And then another issue, we’re trying new technologies this year for the first time ever in a census. And you have to test them, or you should test them. There’s no money to test them. Just it’s like you had a fighter fly a plane that puts a new technology in it that’s never been before, rolls off the assembly line, and they say, oh, go directly into action.

Some of them are actively complicit in the conspiracy.

      • I should add: Some like Dana Rohrabacher and Devin Nunes appear to have been active participants.

      • Skeptical_Inquirer

Those GOPers should get a freaking clue that a hard shutdown of Mueller is probably going to make things really unstable. I honestly think a lot of people have put their outrage on pause because of Mueller and a complete derailment is going to flip out a lot of people.

And wondering why their Russian contacts are not answering

      • There will be no question they’ll be being watched from here on out though. A call or online airline reservation would bring the arrest(s) right away.

    • It is not typical for the target of a sealed indictment to find out it’s the case until the Feds arrive at the door.

      • That said, as I commented downthread, this is such a frenzy of speculation, I would be surprised if we make it to Monday morning without the name(s) being leaked.

        • bambinoitaliano

I’m wondering if this is another posturing from Mueller to see who among the traitors will flee, knock on his door to confess or die in an accident courtesy of Putin before Monday.

          • Mueller doesn’t do posturing, typically. But yeah, this 3 day delay feels like tree-shaking to see what traitors fall out.

        • Dazzer

I suspect one of the people in the frame will commit suicide and the Republican narrative will change to “Mueller hounded XXXXXX to death”.

      • JCF

Oh, HELL no. Drumpf must be prosecuted to the FULLEST extent of the law (inc ALL his Russian financial connections for years, if not decades!). ONLY when he’s been convicted, can “spend more time w/ [Melania-replacement]” options be discussed. Not before!
