Disney Channel Show To Launch Gay Storyline

Paging you-know-who. Via GLAAD:

The Disney Channel show “Andi Mack” will break new ground for the network during its second season premiere this Friday, October 27 at 8pm ET/PT when it introduces its first LGBTQ storyline. In the episode, Andi’s friend Cyrus lets Buffy know that he has a crush on the same boy Andi does.

In the episode, Cyrus confides in Buffy. The scene, and what Buffy says to Cyrus, makes for positive role models both for kids and adult viewers. In subsequent episodes, Cyrus begins to understand himself, and can count on his supportive friends Buffy and Andi who, as teenagers, are also on a journey to self-discovery. He also grapples with how to tell his new girlfriend, Iris, about his new understanding of himself.

This story arc is a first for Disney Channel; it’s the first time the channel has depicted a character’s journey to self-discovery as an LGBTQ individual. However, it won’t be the first time an LGBTQ character has appeared on Disney Channel. Back in 2014, a lesbian couple appeared on an episode of “Good Luck Charlie.”

I can’t wait to read the description of this episode from OMM

    • Frostbite

      Here it is.. “Disney’s new show *** ***** *** ****** **** ***** **** boycott now!”

      • Todd20036

        Cute. Needs more exclamation points.

      • Smokey

Not quite. It’s only vowels that One Moist Mom finds offensive; s*x! You know.

        • Frostbite

Oh no, they’re moving up their agenda. Ban all words!

    • Disney is brainwashing kids, blah blah blah, something-something culture, yadda yadda yadda, oh noes, gay characters, this that and the other, also, sign our petition and maybe give us some money!

  • D’awww, how cute!

  • Rex

On a journey to self-discovery – so, how long does this journey last, cause I still feel like I’m on mine.

    • Todd20036

Until you do your first porn video on the internet.
      Just as God as intended.
That’s my explanation and I’m sticking by it!

    • Phil2u

When you’re listening to Peggy Lee’s “Is That all there is?” for the umpteenth time!

  • AaronD12

Hey OMM! Some people are gay. Get over it. Disney is just teaching your children how to be tolerant, unlike you.

  • Todd20036

That should sum up the haters.

They’re right about one thing, Walt would have no problem relating to the fundies. I’m glad the present owners realized that LBGT kids exist.

    • Hue-Man

      Youre speling is to good.

  • pj

  • Blake Mason

How is the current boycott going?

xtians will be the first in line to see the latest Thor film.

  • Boreal

Now Linda Harvey and One mom will having something to do besides buying batteries for their electric friends.

  • greenmanTN

I’m glad they are doing this storyline and today’s kids have access to info and role models. That said, I hated cutesy “clean teen” programming like this when I was a teenager, fearing a diabetic coma.

  • RobynWatts

Wonder how many vowels will M_n_c_ C_l_ leave out of her press release denouncing and urging her _n_ M_ll__n M_ms to boycott Disney?

    • (((GC)))

“Defiantly” is an appropriate adverb for her!
      (Sometimes autocowreck gets it right.)

  • JWC

Take that Million moms all 17 of you

  • Phil2u

So, I bumped into this straight friend of mine who said she missed seeing me at a local pride event! I responded, “So you’re a lesbian?” as a bad joke, I guess. She answered “No, but two of my children are gay.” I was quite taken aback as the older may be 14 y.o. Wow! The times, they are a-changin’.

  • Hue-Man

Family Channel is on free preview so I’ve watched a few episodes of Degrassi: New Class. A recent episode had a lesbian couple, a gay couple, and bisexual Miles and his boyfriend Tristan. (Miles had an affair with a female student while Tristan was in a coma.)

Disney Channel has a (long) way to go.

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

Thing is, Degrassi dealt with LGBT issues from pretty much day one back in the 80’s. I remember their AIDS storyline, it was brutally honest. As you say, Disney has a long way to go.

    • The_Wretched

I never could watch after school specials and similar tv shows. Too saccharine.

    • Danieruw

What kind of human garbage has an affair while their significant other is in a coma?

Oh wait… Gingrich and probably the US ambassador to Vatican City.

  • Chris Gardner

Whats even worse… we don’t see any blond-haired, blue eyed kids on the show. Those minorities are taking Disney away from us! Gasp! /snark

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

Ooooh, there are going to be some epic SADZ over this….good.

  • BartmanLA

You know OMM is going to go ballistic over this new twist. And god forbid the gay characters actually do something like kiss… they’ll be begging hair furor to take away Disney’s broadcast license like he’s threatened to do to the other networks for treating him so unfairly. /snark

  • Alternative Facts

    “Thanks Obama”…

  • Miji

Oh nooooooo! That kid played a young version of Zachary Quinto’s character in Heroes. The gay is contagious! Or was he recruited, Linda? Mwahhahahahaaa!

  • Friday’s_cat

When does Micky cheat on Minnie with Goofy?
