Trump: I’m Not A Jerk, I’m A Very Smart Ivy League Graduate, One Of The Greatest Memories Of All Time

The Hill reports:

President Trump on Wednesday cited his Ivy League education in pushing back at the notion that he is an uncivil leader. “You know people don’t understand, I went to an Ivy League college,” he told reporters at the White House. “I was a nice student. I did very well. I’m a very intelligent person.”

Trump blamed the media for making him look “more uncivil than I am.” “I think the press creates a different image of Donald Trump than the real person,” he said. In the past two weeks, Trump has feuded with a Gold Star widow who was offended by his comments during a condolence call for her husband who was killed in Niger.

  • bkmn

But nobody doubts he is an asshole.

  • Tawreos

It might help us to believe you if you acted nice in front of the cameras instead of the selfish arrogant jackass that you usually act like.

  • greenmanTN

Oh, yeah, he’s got a memory like a goddamn elephant for perceived slights. Facts, figures, anything to do with other people? Not so much.

  • Christopher Street

Anytime someone has to make a point of how smart they are, that they went to an “Ivy League” school or have a high I.Q. you can be sure that they are either very insecure or are lying or both.

    • BlindBill

2 years as a UPENN undergraduate in economics did not do for 45 what he thinks people should believe- despite evidence proving otherwise.

      • Susan Stange

He implies he has an MBA FROM Penn. He went to Fordham in the Bronx for 2 years and 2 years at Penn. He was not a Wharton School grad

        • evan_or
          • Robincho

He graduated in the top 99% of his class…

          • Willys41

I don’t personally believe that he was ever in any class or that he took any of the tests.

          • Charlie In SF

I have asked this same question to my Dad and some of friends who hold Wharton MBA’s. They were there at the same time Trump claims and none can remember him.

        • BigGuy

Wharton undergrad at Penn is far more competitive than Wharton grad, but he never studied hard. I graduated in 1977 and can still give myself an anxiety attack looking at my corporate finance final exam 50+ years later (11 prerequisites for 1 course). His classmates were interviewed by the Daily Pennsylvanian and by the alumni magazine. They remembered him as a loud mouth braggart who never apologized to anyone and never admitted he made a mistake. The school paper could not find a single person who was in a course with Trump, any teacher who taught him, or any administrator who dealt with him who would endorse him for President. No one who knew him then had anything good to say about him. Some Penn alumni his age who never met him then or since, endorsed him.

Between his Junior and senior years, Trump borrowed money from his dad, bought some 3 family homes in West Philadelphia, fixed them up a bit, and then sold them for a profit bigger than what his two years at Penn cost his family.

    • Mrs. Councillor Nugent

There must be a “Poison Ivy League,” then.

    • Todd20036

Yup. My narcissistic sister brags about her near-genius IQ all the time.

She isn’t lying, but in her case she threw away a career that would have made her a millionaire, just so she could marry a multimillionaire.

After she was divorced, she was out of the loop for too long to restart her career.

So instead she waves around her IQ like an insecure man might brag about his dick.

I actually think Trump thinks he is smart, and refuses to believe that the only reason he got into an Ivy League school was because of Daddy Trump

      • JWC

Trumps dick length and IQ are probably equal

        • Cattleya1

So… micropenis and unmeasurably low IQ.

        • linusbern

He will agree, 218 inches. It was measured by Mensa the same day he completed 18 holes of golf in 16 strokes.

      • Herald

Funnily enough, Trump also brags about his dick.

      • BigGuy

A lot of Mensa functions are filled with people emotionally scarred from junior high decades later.

    • crewman

Not only that, but Ivy League schools are notoriously pay for play. Aptitude and intelligence are optional as long as there’s money.

      • Danieruw

        Just ask Jared Kushner…

  • coram nobis

Josh Marshall at TPM headlined this story “President Fredo.”

    • Tawreos

Sounds good, let’s take him fishing in the morning

    • Duh-David

I haven’t seen The Godfather since it was first released, and don’t recall, was Fredo the one with esteem issues who demanded praise for imagined accomplishments?

      • coram nobis

That’s right, and (see Godfather II) kept insisting he was smart.

        • Duh-David

So we have to wait until Mama’s funeral, to take him fishing?

          • Tawreos

I am sure somewhere there was a funeral for a mother today and I think that is close enough.

          • Gerry Fisher

Mama’s funeral is code for “conclusion of Mueller investigation,” right?

    OT:
“You would have thought that Senator Jeff Flake would have basked a little longer in the applause he got for scarpering out of the Senate before he got around to the business of emptying his words of any significant meaning they ever had. Instead, Flake—along with fellow brave truth-tellers Bob Corker, Ben Sasse and, significantly, John McCain—joined with every other Republican (including Mike Pence, The Great Tiebreaker) to arrange for the screwing of countless Americans and their families.”

      Jesus, such “leadership”…

    • coram nobis

Corker, Sasse, McCain, Flake all voted for the big financial institutions here to the detriment of anybody who had a loan or a credit card. So, their quarrel with the GOP base simply seems to be whether to owe loyalty to Wall Street or to the crazy.

I’m quite torn over Stewart. He encouraged Trump to run, and while admitting that it would be bad for the country, it would make his job so much easier… and then he quit. I understand why he quit and do not malign him for it, but his departure left a void in one of the areas the media is so lacking otherwise: the ability to reach a younger audience in a way that explained things to them and got them to take action. On one hand, we should have seen this with the rally that he and Colbert organized and funded… and then let the movement die on the vine; on the other hand, it’s not his responsibility to educate and motivate a generation.

Nevertheless, when the election came down to fewer people than it takes to fill an NFL stadium on any given Sunday, I can’t help but feel that if Stewart had hung on through the election, we wouldn’t be confronting incompetence and ignorance, and worse, on a daily basis.

        • Priya Lynn

I wasn’t happy when Trevor Noah took over for John Stewart, I didn’t think he had earned it and it should have gone to another cast member who put in their time.

But now that I’ve seen him in action for some time I find him highly likeable and in my opinion he is arguably better at the Daily Show than John Stewart was.

          • JCF

I *really like* Trevor Noah (watch every night)…

…but better than Jon Stewart? No.

  • Bronxboy47

Trump apparently thinks intelligent people–of which he is definitely not one–cant’be hopelessly racist and uncivil.

  • Tom G

His twitter feed says it all. It’s his fault alone.

  • Kevin Perez

Trump is the only guy that I can think of who went to a “Ivy League” college who speaks in Pidgin English.

    • Frostbite

Hell Pidgin would be a step up for him.

    • Todd20036

I think W went to Yale. And he cannot speak proper English at gunpoint.

      • Kevin Perez

Good point. W went to both Harvard and Yale.

        • BigGuy

And before Yale and HBS, W went to Phillips Andover Prep. A decade plus at very good schools is enough time to absorb some smarts. W was assured of solid B’s when tested, as long as he did not have to answer any essay questions, since he could remember nearly everything he read or heard.

W was not and is not stupid. Nearly ALL of his speaking errors were purposeful call outs to his political base that provided plausible deniability if anyone called W out. W’s EVIL, not stupid.

          • Kevin Perez

W is an entitled, intellectually disinterested schmuck by choice. Trump is an entitled, intellectually disinterested schmuck by design.

          • BigGuy

You mean UNinterested, not DISinterested. DISinterested connotes judging without bias or being objective. W and Trump are NOT disinterested. They have lots of biases.

UNinterested means you don’t care one way or another; you’re indifferent or apathetic. W doesn’t care about anybody, but he comes across like he does. Trump only cares about himself.

Trump resents anything that may draw attention away from him, living or dead. He doesn’t have any pets, or even any large house plants where he lives and works. The only thing or person that he allows to be nearby are huge portraits of Donald Trump.

My car stopped working on a busy highway at 5:30 in the morning. it stopped on an overpass that went over a railroad tracks and the only options were to continue going and find a shoulder to pull over onto or the narrow shoulder on the overpass.

Everything lite up on the dash and then my accelerator was going, I pulled it onto the shoulder to not have my car die in the middle of the highway. My car slightly stuck out, there was not enough room on the shoulder of the overpass to pull over.

I called my dad and he gave me a loaner car of his to take to internship that morning, my car is now sitting at a family friends house where he works on cars in his spare time, and now i am without a car of my own. It may have been a timing chain that broke, even with that being said I believe the costs to fix the belt and have my car running again is probably 2,060 dollars.

Brown said the official complaints related to comments he had made at a party in the Samoan capital, Apia, where he told attendees they looked “beautiful” and could make hundreds of dollars working in the hospitality industry in the US. Brown and Huff said they had “no idea” the comments would be regarded as offensive.

The only reason he loves twitter is because he can speedily lash out at someone or group of people faster than he can gather the press to hold a press conference.
