MONTANA: Republican Leader Says She “Would Have Shot” Reporter Body-Slammed By Greg Gianforte

The Guardian reports:

A Montana Republican party official “would have shot” Guardian reporter Ben Jacobs if he had approached her as he did Greg Gianforte, who assaulted Jacobs one day before he was elected to Congress.

Jacobs approached Gianforte in May, in a room where he was about to give a television interview. The Republican slammed Jacobs to the floor, breaking his glasses, and then punched him several times.

“If that kid had done to me what he did to Greg, I would have shot him,” Karen Marshall, vice-president of programs for Gallatin County Republican Women told the Voice of Montana radio program on Thursday.

“That kid came on private property, came into a private building, and went into a very private room that I would not even have gone into,” Marshall said. “It was a setup. A complete setup. He just pushed a little too hard.”

The Helena Independent Record reports:

Marshall hung up on a reporter Friday morning, saying “I don’t really speak to reporters” before the line went dead. Gianforte, through a spokesman Friday, strongly denounced Marshall’s remarks.

“Greg disagrees with those remarks, repudiates them and remains focused on being a strong voice for Montana in Washington,” spokesman Travis Hall said. The event was a picnic, to which several members of statewide media were invited. At the time of the assault, Gianforte was preparing to do an interview with Fox television reporters.

Every day seems to bring a new GOP death threat.

  • Lazycrockett

The place wasn’t private and several including Ben reporters had been invited.

    • Ross

      Silly!

You know perfectly well that Republicans aren’t reality based!

      • FAEN

        Not even close.

    • Christian1234567

Fox News reporters (from the local affiliate) were the witnesses who confirmed Ben’s account about supremacist Gianforte assaulting him.

      • Nychta

And when Fox reporters support Ben, there’s no doubt he was attacked.

  • Fifth-and-a-Half Element
  • Tatonka

I suspect Karen Marshall could talk for hours and hours listing the people and things she would like to shoot.

    • Chucktech

And you know that list would include coloreds, queers and mexakins.

  • Snarky

“That kid came on private property, came into a private building, and went into a very private room that I would not even have gone into,” Marshall said.

He was there for a press briefing. A local TV station witnessed the event because they were setting up their shot at the time. The press was INVITED. These fucking bags of fuck with their fucking magical thinking, like facts have no meaning and all that matters is the fairy tales they spin.

The Committee to Protect Journalists says that 30 journalists have been killed so far this year. 259 were imprisoned last year. 55 are missing. So fuck her and her fucking attacks on journalists, she’s complicit in the kind of atmosphere that encourages violence.

    • Christian1234567

The local TV station reporters who witnessed the event were from the FOX affiliate, and they knew supremacist Gianforte was in the wrong. Anyone who supports what he did is scary. Even Gianforte finally admitted that what he did was wrong.

    • jerry

You have to have magical thinking to be a Republican these days, from their “trickle down” economics, denial of global warming and science in general, their pandering to religion, the utopia they will create with “free markets” and deregulation, overturning Roe v. Wade will end all abortions, to the belief that more guns will mean less crime.

With them, everything is “private” except for a uterus, a marriage ceremony, a conversation with your doctor.

Such nice people, the Republicans. I feel it appropriate now to send them the Evil Eye. This is a very potent culturally Jewish curse, reserved by my people for the truly evil.

Please divert your eyes if you suffer from glaucoma or frequent nighttime urination.

    Here goes.

Well I could delve into the truly occult (known in mystical Jewish tradition as Kabbalah), but I don’t have the strength for it at the moment.

I used to be good at it (I captured the most incredibly kind and good man in all of recorded history and am now married to him), but that was over four decades ago.

        Too tired, I am, today.

  • djcoastermark

If there are any questions left as to what the gop is all about, well, one day of news stories should fix that. What a rotten bunch of humanity.

Of course, Karen Marshall, Vice-President of Programs for Gallatin County Republican Women said she would have shot the reporter. That is how Republicans lead, this is who they are, it is the very fiber of her being, for heavens sake, they are upholding their fine Christian values.
That said, thank goodness the republicans are a shrinking demographic, can’t win an election today with robust voter suppression schemes, overt gerrymandering, and lying shamelessly.
The Democrats are on their way to fixing those problems and are registering new voters. We have the numbers to overwhelm them and Trump is a huge motivator for us.
One day in the not so distant future, I look forward to when the Karen Marshalls of the world are outnumbered, neutralized without power or influence, and are rendered irrelevant..

    • Ross

“…can’t win an election today with robust voter suppression schemes, overt gerrymandering, and lying shamelessly.”

Technically, you need a minimum of three points to define a trend.

So, Betsy DeVos? Laura Ingraham? one of the anti-immigrant, bullet-necklace wearing wack-a-doos?

      • Betsy DeVos and for the win Scott Pruit, who feels the need for 30, thats right a force of 30 security people.

    • JCF

Noting specifics of tweet. 2011, “T party”. Easy to thing of “T party” as coming “Trump Party”, huh? Jr was talking about Frederica Wilson in 2011? [I’m guessing she was saying something re Drumpf’s birtherism?] And yes: Jr obviously thinks all “blah” women look alike.

    • Keroleen

On doing a quick lookup to see if Ms. Waters had in fact ever worn a cowboy hat, I discovered that the Right has apparently latched onto referring to Ms. Wilson as “Maxine Waters in a cowboy hat”. I’d assume this is trying to paint Ms. Wilson with the same extremist brush they use on Ms. Waters, with an underlying layer of “they all look alike”. Not to mention Donny Jr. has no room talking about strippers – most of them make more of an honest living than he does any day of the week.

  • This would be a promise to commit premeditated murder.

I cannot believe how incredibly vile, monstrous and deplorable these so-called “people” are.

  • Larry in Oklahoma

Apparently, Karen Marshall believes that she could have whipped out a big ‘un and gotten away with it. She believes no one else might have whipped out a gun, as well, and shot her! Apparently, she thinks she is a Christian. I guess she has never read Matthew 26:52 which states: “…for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.”
