White House Trashes Press For Daring To Report About Proven Lies By A “Four-Star Marine General” [VIDEO]

The Daily Beast reports:

The White House on Friday said that its chief of staff “absolutely” stands by his false comments about Rep. Frederica Wilson (D-FL), despite video evidence proving him wrong. While railing against Wilson’s criticism of President Trump’s call with a Gold Star widow, Kelly told media on Thursday that he recalled Wilson grandstanding during a somber FBI event in 2015, touting herself as having secured funding for a new building. However, the Sun-Sentinel found the full speech video and it contained no such boasting.

“She also had quite a few comments that day that weren’t part of that speech and weren’t part of that video that were also witnessed by many people there,” Sanders replied, declining to name specific comments or evidence. Asked whether Kelly would come out to address his own false statements, Sanders invoked a curious defense: “If you want to get into a debate with a four-star marine general, I think that’s something highly inappropriate.”

Why does a 4 Star General bold face lie to the American public?

    • Daveed_WOW

They love to be lied to. 47% absolutely adore Trump. He’s the best thing that ever happened to them: an open racist, sexist, immature, heartless jerk. He is Middle America. Sad.

    • JW Swift

The same reason his boss does.

  • Joe in PA

Wait, is he still a 4-star General? Still active duty? WTF does that have to do with anything?

    • Joe in PA

      • bzrd

but we don’t have to use it

    • Daveed_WOW

It has nothing to do with anything. Classic ad hominem. 4 star generals have been known to lie. Of course.

If the president shit on his desk how would you defend it ?

My reading of this horror episode:

The deplorables will love it. Sane people will want to vomit.

    • Tatonka

So, just like any given Friday during the Trump era then.

    • Daveed_WOW

You’re not kidding. I encountered a few on Twitter and they really adore Trump and stand by everything he does. They fall for every lie and they are hopping mad at the media for not reporting on how Obama and Hillary are going to jail for life for selling uranium, collaborating with Russia and murdering Americans in Benganzi. They actually fall for the propaganda. Fox News is very effective. No party has had so much media to support them as they do now. The Republican voters are licking their lips waiting for all Mexicans to be gone, Blacks to be invisible (or in jail) and gays executed.

    • JP

I have a friend who is also black and gay. He voted for Trump. I asked him yesterday how he felt about trumps performance. He simply said “The stock market is up.”

  • Leo

Kelly’s using his dead son to attack the family of another.

Sorry if that’s too blunt or crass but I don’t have patience for bullshit any longer.

If he quits there’d be a modicum of respect he could regain from me. That’s it.

    • another_steve

This is a test for Kelly. And surely he’s aware of it.

If he remains part of this monstrous administration, his legacy is doomed.

      • AdamTh

and if he leaves, WE may be doomed. Previous reports indicate he is one of the few people able to reason with Pres F. Moron.

        • another_steve

          I agree, Adam.

Kelly’s one of the few rational and experienced voices who would urge Trump not to enter a nuclear war with North Korea.

        • Joe in PA

few people able to reason with Pres F. Moron….

I really want to believe that…but I’m not so sure. 🙁

Bull. Shit. If he couldn’t make Trump figure out that besmirching a Gold Star family was a bad idea, then he is worthless anyway

      • elvigy

He’s already failed. He won’t leave until he’s pushed out, which he will inevitably be. He’s as racist as the rest of them and just as willing to throw any honor or dignity out the door to suck up to power.

      • Daveed_WOW

Nah. He’s doing exactly what he wants. Don’t mistake a narcissist for someone with a conscious. We’re seeing people lose their conscientious disguise and we’re seeing them reveal themselves for the nasty brutes that they are.

    • JackFknTwist

Kelly’s self indulgent tirade was a disgrace.
      We now have :
1st: McMaster comes out on the WH lawn to fawn obediently to Trump/turd -“he didn’t give away any state secrets to the Russian Ambassador at their private meeting .

      2nd : Tillerson demonstrating the obeisance of a milked cow;

3rd : General Kelly, ( a mad poodle), who has obviously been deluded by the lure of a blissful time past when women were “sacred” –

Ask the women to go back to that time, general, you will get a rude awakening.
By the way General you are working for a “pu ssy – grabber”. ( a criminal sexual assaulter )………did you ever give that a thought ?……before you started denigrating a Congresswoman who spoke the truth of what Trump/turd said in the phone call.
Where is the proof that Trump/turd did not say those words, a proof he said he had?
Where is the trump/turd proof ?

Trump/turd is surrounded by little people, pleased as punch to have their power jobs. While Huckabee, fille, thinks that a **** general is above criticism or question………oh yes, l’état c’est moi.

I disagree, while there is a democratic bone left in my body.

I shit you not. Flipping radio stations this morning when NPR started repeating the show I’d already heard at 6am, landed on I- heart station (think limbaugh and Sean Hannity) and the morning hosts were talking about how obama was born in kenya and he might as well just fess up since he’s no longer in office. In October of 2017 they were still talking about birther nonsense.
The maga folks are generally racist, homophic, misogynistic assholes that are low information voters. And the information they get is a pack of lies.

  • Kelly Lape

She’s right. The press shouldn’t have to go into a “debate” with a four star general on honor and integrity. A four star general should never had lied in public. He is a disgrace to the uniform he once wore, and just because he’s retired he is not above the UCMJ and needs to be charged accordingly. No debate. He can defend his honor in front of a Military Court at his own peril.

    • Joe in PA

He’s not military. UCMJ doesn’t apply.

      • Duck

If he is drawing a pension, he is subject to the UCMJ, with some caveats.

        • Joe in PA

Really? My husband is a retired Colonel and draws a pension. I’ll defer to you, but I really don’t think that’s true.

        • Joe in PA

Lordy, I’m reading a lengthy legal article, near as I can figure out, he is still subject to it if the offense was during his/her active/reserve status. Or if he/she caused the “honorable discharge” to be something other than that…they can still be charged. I think. 🙁 Not an expert by any means.

        • lymis

I’d have to look it up, but as I recall, general officers are subject to recall. They don’t “retire” quite the way others do. That would mean that if they go on active duty by BEING recalled, yes, their conduct would be subject to the UCMJ, but not their actions taken while on inactive status, unless it somehow had something to do with their military service.

I don’t think lying as the White House Chief of Staff would be covered by that.

      • Kelly Lape

Yes it does. He is always as a retired General subject to the UCMJ. Especially as a General.

“This man in the Oval Office is a soulless coward who thinks that he can only become large by belittling others. This has of course been a common practice of his, but to do it in this manner—and to lie about how previous presidents responded to the deaths of soldiers—is as low as it gets. We have a pathological liar in the White House, unfit intellectually, emotionally, and psychologically to hold this office, and the whole world knows it, especially those around him every day. The people who work with this president should be ashamed, because they know better than anyone just how unfit he is, and yet they choose to do nothing about it. This is their shame most of all.” -Coach Gregg Popovich, San Antonio Spurs

  • GayOldLady

I knew when Kelly began waxing nostalgic about the good old days that we were getting the first wave of a sexist/racist shit storm. When he said, “women were sacred and looked upon with great honor” was code for when women were VIRGINS or married and domesticated. Or when he said “when life was sacred” was code for when women had no authority over their own bodies and when men ruled over everything. Or when he said “when religion was sacred” code for when women were subservient to their husbands and deferred to their husbands commands because, jesus. I remember those days Kelly longs for well, they were not good for women. Kelly hated that a Woman, particularly a Black Woman, had the nerve to out POTUS for being an insensitive asshole. When he called the Congresswoman an “Empty Barrel” that sealed the deal for me. Now, 24 hours later, we find out his anecdotal story about the Congresswoman was a figment of his sexist/racist imagination. I bet he loathes having women and LGBT’s in the military. What an ASS!!

    • Joe in PA

      Nailed it GOL!

      • GayOldLady

I know Kelly’s type. He’s younger than I but he comes from the same generation. His comment about women being “sacred and looked upon with great honor” is BS. The only woman I can think of that fell into that category in that time period was “the Virgin Mary”. Kelly knows damned good and well that in America 1950’s-1960’s that women were not seen as “sacred” or “Looked upon with great honor”. We were looked upon as domestic help, baby machines and sex objects. We had little to no freedom and no control over our reproductive decisions. And the reason he decided to go there smacks of the same philosophy that Donald Trump espouses. Women are only good for looking pretty and taking care of children. How dare a woman call out POTUS for being an insensitive, pompous ass. Women and particularly black women should be seen and not heard. I’m just infuriated with Kelly, but I’m glad we got to see him for what he is, a Trump sympathizer and a Trump Enabler.

        • bzrd

          and a fckin’ Nazi

        • stuckinthewoods

Certainly Kelly is a Trump sympathizer, he accepted the job as his Chief of Staff. The whole position is to be enabler. Here Trump’s actions dragged out recollections of his own son’s death. Was Kelly surprised when Trump used his personal history as a shield? Was that hard for him to be pulled into, fueling what appeared to approach rage? If it was hard, he must be delusional to think he would avoid being used by Trump. If it wasn’t hard, that’s worse.

    • Gustav2

The next time you leave the house you better have a girdle, nylons and a pointie bra on under your dress…Kelly’s rules!

PS don’t forget to match your hat, gloves. purse and shoes.

      • GayOldLady

If I had time to go through my old photo albums I could find a pic of me in a dress with hat, gloves, purse and heels. I never needed a girdle, so instead I wore a garter belt even though I hated them. I wouldn’t wear garters because your hose would sag. I was thrilled when panty house came out. Being a woman in those days was a nightmare. No contraception, no decent jobs for women, no freedom at all from your husband. After I divorced I had trouble getting credit because I WAS A WOMAN. It was awful and I don’t know any women who lived in those days who long for their return.

WTF does “empty barrel” even mean? I’ve never heard that and if you start with similar terms like “empty vessel” it quickly goes to some pretty ugly places, especially in regard to women.

      • GayOldLady

When he started about how sacred women used to be, then went to “life” and to “religion” I recognized the Empty barrel comment for what it was. A direct attack on a strong, black woman. He belongs with Trump because in my opinion they’re cut from the same cloth, the difference being Kelly doesn’t have dementia, yet!

    • Halou

If (when) he loses the 2020 election he will seal himself in the White House and order the arrest and “disappearance” of whoever defeats him.

  • Robert Little

No, Sarah. It’s totally appropriate to question a 4-star Marine general if he makes a demonstrably false statement. Civilian journalists are not service members under his command. He works for us (the American public). Not the other way around. No matter how much creepy little would-be authoritarians like yourself dislike it.

    • Gerry Fisher

And they aren’t questioning him about military strategy, something in which he has immense expertise. They’re questioning him about an event for which there is video evidence.

  • Psst, Sarah! Generals are human beings who can lie, too, but their position does not exempt them from being questioned or criticized.

Only in fascist authoritarian regimes is questioning or criticism illegal.

Also, Kelly isn’t a general now anyway. He’s apparently a full-bore MAGA Trumpist…which given his leadership at DHS and unleashing of ICE and CBP to become like gestapo, we should’ve predicted beforehand.

    • Gustav2

And is the employee of every citizen in that press room.

    • Stev84

This kind of fanatical militarism is all too common in America though. She is hardly the only one and it’s not confined to conservatives. Being in the military or a veteran automatically gives people an aura of respect and authority. And this starts with very small things. Try paying attention to newspaper articles and how often they mention that someone is a veteran for no reason whatsoever.

I would have to say I almost admire Putin in a weird way, of course he’s vile too but he’s managed to totally destroy America.

Well played, Mr Putin, well played. You totally gave America that extra little push, seeing we already had a punch of conservative and you knew damn well which people you could go after to make sure they would destroy American and what she stands for.

    • joe ho

Don’t forget Putin also trageted the far-left, fanning the flames of Hillary hate among the Susan Slurandon, Bernie or Bust and Stein crowd.

They screamed about that “corporate whore” who gave speeches at Goldman Sachs and talked to an Exxon executive.

Now, partly because of the far-left sabotage, the government is totally being run by Goldman Sachs and Exxon. And the environment is being completely trashed.

How Putin played the far-left into voting against its own interests.

      https://www.thedailybeast.com/how-putin-played-the-far-left?source=twitter&via=desktop

      • Michael

Uh unfortunately Hillary did a bang up job herself of making the Bernie or bust crowd hate her. Unless of course Bernie somehow managed to make her pick the most establishment pick possible as her VP thus giving those Bernie or bust crowds the huge middle finger when we were all hoping she’d extend some sort of “olive branch” so we could all unite behind her. Her entire attitude was “f*ck you, I don’t need your votes to win.” I don’t think Putin had anything to do with that factor.

        • joe ho

lol. yeah. picking a nice moderate guy is certainly an offense worth turning over the government to the psychopathic Trump regime.

the DNC platform was the most progressive in history. Still not good enough. she made multiple conciliatory gestures to the bernobos.

faced with the existential threat posed by Trump, the Bernie or busters and green partiers preferred to nurse their hurt feelings. that sort of childish behavior of the far-left is why the gop stays in power.

          delete yourself. you’re an imbecile.

          • Friday’s_cat

I think Hillary made the same mistake Al Gore did in picking Joe Lieberman for VP. My opinion.

          • joe ho

hmmm… sotomayor and kagan were wasps?

the problem is that the gop is strong in tribal loyalty. they will vote for anyone in order to keep the dems out of power. the far-left defeats itself by purity codes and pouting or sabotaging if their feelings are hurt.

until the left learns to become more disciplined and vote blue no matter who in general elections the gop will continue to dominate our politics.

the usa is not going to turn into a brocialist workers’ paradise.

Given that republicans were going to nix whoever President Obama appointed they would have pissed off members of the Asian community and gotten Hillary some more votes.

          • joe ho

It wasn’t certain that Republicans would get away with their theft.

Obama decided that it might be more politically difficult for Republicans to deny Garland a hearing and a vote after he has been the subject of effusive bipartisan accolades for decades.

A grandson of Jewish immigrants from Europe isn’t sexy enough for the far-left? Especially following the first Latina and Jewish woman appointments. How greedy is the far-left. That’s the problem.

I still think Josh Marshall’s piece yesterday speaks volumes on how Kelly sold his soul by exploiting his supposed hyper relevance.

    http://talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/general-kellys-paean-to-maga

    • Natty Enquirer

We were counting on Kelly as a safety valve, yet he revealed himself as a very dangerous man.

“Lost in the storm and anguish over John Kelly’s attacks today was a sobering reality. The ideological and rhetorical spine of his remarks was a paean to MAGA. The old days were good. We had real religion. Things were right with women. There was no abortion. Honor was sacred and respected. Now it’s all crap because of people like Congresswoman Frederica Wilson (D), a showboater from Florida who transgressed our last sacred space.”

      And this:

“Underneath this logic is a belief which Kelly actually stated much more clearly than most are willing to do. We don’t just owe respect to people who serve in the military. They are actually better than us civilians.…Kelly made a similar point when he refused to take questions from any reporter who was not either from a Gold Star family themselves or personally knew someone who was. You may not even deserve your civic freedoms, the right to talk, to ask question, unless you are near to military sacrifice.”

      • Cuberly Deux

        Precisely.

He’ll lash out just as irrationally as Donnie, and again, a person of color, specifically a woman, is the one in their sites.

They know how that plays in MAGALand.

  • joe ho

Let’s hope cable news’ period of worshiping Kelly is over.

Odious Chris Matthews has been fawning over him.

  • Bronxboy47

I’m beginning to hate this woman almost as much as I hate Trump.

But we’re not “debating” him, Sarah. We’re saying he lied.

Robert E. Lee was a general too.

    • Jefe5084

I believe Josef Goebbels and Hermann Goring were generals. too. And likely not to be questioned by the masses.

      • Natty Enquirer

Nope, Goebbels had Kellyanne’s job in the Third Reich.

        • Jefe5084

Oh, then my alternative facts were appropriate. Thanks for the correction.

  • Johnny Wyeknot

Never liked him to begin with. Or anyone who associates with Trump.

  • jimbo65

At this point I’ve long given up on him being one of those “sane” gatekeepers to keep the man baby in check. I was under no illusion of that from the beginning. And let’s not forget he was totally on board with the Muslim and travel ban. So he’s just as complicit in all this chaos.

I don’t yet live in a police state and I do not now and never have worshipped military men. The Pentagon is the most bloated and profligate agency of the federal government. Staffed by incompetents who have won nothing since WWII and never been held accountable for the millions of needless deaths they’ve caused or the trillions in dollars they’ve either squandered or lost. #nomoremotherfuckinggenerals

    • Lars Littlefield

      Absolutely.

  • Halou

Sorry, but being a four star general means that people are not only entitled to scrutinise him, they are practically required to.
The rank comes with some serious responsibilities and any abuse or mishandling of that power can have dire consequences across the nation, accountability for people of such high rank is a national security priority. Accountability should be guaranteed and maintained by the governing military and political institutions themselves, but since those are all comatose and living on life support for at least another three years we have to rely on an the free and independent media to do it for us instead.

I am reminded of a discussion I once had with my immediate boss about the head honcho. I expressed dissatisfaction with the head honcho’s behavior and got back the response “But he’s the big boss and can do anything he wants.”

My reply to that? “As head man with a high salary, he is held to a higher standard of behavior than us underlings.”

The blank look that triggered was priceless. It was clear that my point hadn’t been understood.

  • Lars Littlefield

Obviously we’re in a very serious war, fighting disinformation and hoards of elite fascist liars who think we’re too stupid to understand what’s happening. Fortunately, the framers of the Constitution created the tools for us to fight back and quell their attempts at intellectual enslavement. We just have to be vigilant and employ those tools.

Andif you haven’t read it, check out Manufacturing Consent by Noam Chomsky and Edward S. Herman. It’s a bit dated (no taking into account of social media), but the rules still apply. By becoming aware you vaccinate yourself against the rampant assholism.

  • olandp

Do you think Kelly was an unrepentant liar before he joined the Dotard’s cabinet, or is it a skill acquired by such close proximity to a group of compulsive liars?

    • Gil

A disease he contracted in the White House….

  • EdA

I used to have a lot of respect for Gen. Kelly — until he agreed to be Secretary of Homeland Security. And as Chief of Staff to the Squatter-in-Chief at the Whitesupremacist House, my level of respect is going down the toilet.

I can understand that Gen. Kelly might have been consoled by Gen. Dunford’s words on the death of his son. But I suspect that Gen. Kelly’s wife/Lt. Kelly’s mother might not have taken them the same way.

  • bambinoitaliano
  • That’s the Trump administration: when all else fails, call it an attack on the military.

  • Grumpy Old Man

In defending a chicken-hawk who dodged the draft, Kelly goes on about people who have not served as unable to comprehend life. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/b0348938199cd9a2df8c4b5d97b94c4ad661943af0641fb70782573d3dd7c2e4.gif

So if having stars on your uniform means you’re above being questioned, the obvious question is when does Trump start wearing a military uniform? I can completely see this happening, and he will claim he can do it because he’s Commander In Chief. Six stars!

Every bit of this White House argument is designed to transfer attention from the incredibly terrible tax the poor bill now being rammed through congress.

We will all awaken to no services, no infrastructure, no schools, higher taxes, no taxes for the very rich —

Don’t question us. Don’t question the military. Don’t question. I find it sad there are still people in this country who feel this is in any way American.
