LIVE VIDEO: White House Press Briefing

CBS News lists today’s potential topics:

Trump call to widow: President Trump called reports that he told the widow of a fallen solder that her husband “knew what he was getting into” false this morning. The soldier’s mother says Mr. Trump showed “disrespect” on the phone call.

Trump NFL feud: The war between Mr. Trump and NFL players kneeling for the national anthem continues as NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell called Mr. Trump’s comments “divisive.”

Obamacare deal: Two key Republican and Democratic senators joined in announcing a plan Tuesday aimed at stabilizing America’s health insurance markets in the wake of Mr. Trump’s order to terminate Obamacare subsidies to insurers. At first, Mr. Trump approved of it, but later changed his mind about supporting the plan.

“Does the preznit wake up every morning, look in the mirror and call himself a ’10.'”

    • Uncle Mark

      You know he does

    • No, he does not. When Donald looks into a mirror, alone, he sees nothing.

He summons Ivanka or Hope or some other obscenely loyal sycophant to look into the mirror while standing beside him and assure him he’s not a “10,” but rather a total “1000.”

  • Smokey

A WH press conference: where the Dress Barn fashion choice generates more interest than any lie that spews from Sarah’s mouth. Will today’s frock rate a “10”?

    • Ken M

I wish someone would ask her that.

  • Skeptical_Inquirer

She always has a confused, constipated look on her face.

    • Natty Enquirer

      She’s a living Hirschfeld.

  • MikeBx2

I really like the new Twitter profile pic, Joe. (At least I think it’s new.)

  • Ken M

Is she in Purple..or at least close?

    • Natty Enquirer

      Nope, purty in pink.

      • Bluto

        Well, pink.

  • Bluto
    • Uncle Mark

I shall turn my back upon ye, who are poor in finances

    • KevInPDX

Way too slim. Where’s the big ass?

      • agcons

it’s filling out the back piece that looks orange. I’ll bet you thought it was the end of the giant scarf that’s wrapped part way around his body.

    P A T H E T I C

  • Lizard

It appears that Trumpitis, the medical phenomena explaining how Trump’s staffers and colleagues look more and more miserable with each successive public appearance, is finally affecting Sarah.

    Good.

    Pickle has siblings ?

  • Ken M

    “7” ?

  • Megrim Twist

    Wall-eyed salmon, sweeties.

        At all.

        • The_Wretched

Especially as the tone setting for Kelly’s ‘sacred trust’ speech.

    • Natty Enquirer

The “smoky” thing is running away.

    • FAEN

Still looks like an angry Pepto bottle.

    • billbear1961

Unless they’re using this to distract from other things they don’t want us focusing on–like exactly what happened in Niger and if THEY were directly responsible.

      • Smokey

It may be that tRump is enraged by the fallout and the only way to calm him is to put on these embarrassing spectacles. I don’t think tRump has any forward vision, he has always been this way.

  • Ken M

    Why did Trump lie?

    • Uncle Mark

Oooo…wearing a McConnell-necked sweater, I see. Some classics never go out of style…and then there’s this.

  • Megrim Twist

Why did it take 12 days for a statement about the 4 deaths?

    • Ragnar Lothbrok

Obama always waited 14 days. Every time – SHS

    • billbear1961

Busy trying to make sure the facts about what happened get covered up.

  • Natty Enquirer

This apology’s credibility is inversely proportional to its length.

  • safari

    They’re whipping Kelly out again?

    • Yep. And now they’re trying to blame people for overhearing Donald behaving like a complete jackass toward a Gold Star family.

  • Natty Enquirer

Here we go. Blame the messenger.

    • Bluto

It’s inappropriate to talk about trump’s inappropriateness.

  • Rebecca Gardner

Is this motherfucker defending Trump and his disgusting comment to the family of a fallen soldier?

There truly is no hope left for this country. Fuck all of this!

  • The_Wretched

Um Kelly, TRUMP is the one breaking your ‘sacred’. NOT the mother who was horrified.

  • FAEN

John Kelley-how and why are you still sticking up for this sociopath?

    • Rebecca Gardner

      The Sociopath’s Sycophant.

  • Gustav2

    Kool Aid much?

  • safari

Is John Kelly really shaming the nation for being outraged that Donald is a fuck up?

  • Ken M

I’m sorry to admit it, but I can’t bring myself to feel sorry for this dude this guy.

  • Daveed_WOW

Joe, you are evil for photoshopping her to look like a normal woman.

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

THIS Is the guy we are supposed to be counting on to keep the world from frying ?

    • yeah, my confidence in living through the end of the year just nosedived.

  • Buford

So… Gen Kelly took to the podium today because he was simply ‘stunned’ and ‘broken-hearted’ at the comments made by Rep. Wilson… but he was not sufficiently stunned to speak out against Trump’s racist, inappropriate Charlottesville comments.

    That says it all.

    • Natty Enquirer

He is a whore after all.

    • YeOldePickyPeckereth

Fuck him No one cares about his opinoin.

  • Lazycrockett

Why are we getting a history lesson bout military activity?

    • safari

      To shut us up.

  • safari

No, Kelly. Donald fucked it up. She was right to be outraged. The widow and her family were outraged. So shut the fuck up, John.

  • Ken M

    He almost sounds job needy.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

Oh look, another whore4Trump, what a shock.

    • Daveed_WOW

I was trying to be nice when I said she looked photoshopped to resemble a normal human woman. Lipstick and farm animals. I love ’em both.

      • Jean-Marc in Canada

        Both

  • Lazycrockett

Praising the military doesn’t take away from Drumpf bashing gold star families?!?!?

    Straight up Propaganda.

  • Megrim Twist

It must be exhausting constantly having to think of ways to obfuscate for Fuckface Von Clownstick.

    • Ragnar Lothbrok

I would think too humiliating to continue

    • Lizard

  • FAEN

Seriously? Kelley is “stunned” that a member of Congress listened in on a phone call but he’s fine with working for the pussy grabber in chief who insulted a Gold Star Family?

I need to go for a walk-I’m just shaking with anger.

    • Tawreos

Don’t forget the same pussy grabber also politicized the death of Kelly’s son.

    • This ‘member of Congress,’ Rep. Wilson, was a long-time family friend of the Johnson’s and described already as a personal mentor for Sgt Johnson himself. Hence she had every right to be there and was invited to be by the family.

Notice the side-stepping of the fact it was Johnson’s widow who opted to use the speakerphone and let everybody in the car listen in. And how both she and Johnson’s mother have spoken out against Donald’s horrifically insensitive remarks. As has been reported, they were pretty sure Donald didn’t even know Johnson’s name or that of the woman he’d called.

      • FAEN

How ‘convenient’ that Kelley forgot that important part. Did the press even ask him about that or was this another BS q&a session? I couldn’t listen after a while.

      • JerryRich

The Johnsons are black and Rep. Wilson is both black and a woman. He, Trump delivered the expected level of contempt.

  • TheGrandWazoo2

Well, if there’s one thing generals know, it’s diversionary tactics.

  • MikeBx2

Well this puts to rest the notion that Kelly is a level-headed influence for Trump.

    • Natty Enquirer

He is showing us what a scheming manipulator he is, though.

  • safari

Now we need to praise John Kelly for a while before asking questions. Fabulous.

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

This Knowing A Gold Star person or family is a weird requirement

    • Anastasia Beaverhousen

I know. Fuck you sir. We are all Americans. Fuck youuuuuuuu!

  • Treant

Um, ok. I’ve now lost all faith in this administration, any part of it, including Kelly or Tillerson.

Somebody. Rescue us. Now. Canada, I’d look the other way if you invaded. A lot of us would. Also, I’ll perform sexual favors for your PM to encourage him to take us over.

    • Bluto

I will happily greet my new maple scented overlords.

      • Treant

        And bacon. They have bacon.

        • William

          And Poutine.

    • Blake J Butler

If he’s gonna invade America might as well return the favor. Invade his ass.

    • colo303

You mean there was a moment you had faith in the clown car?

      • Treant

No, but I had hoped that Kelly was a bit of a counterbalance.

        I was wrong.

  • Lazycrockett

    This looks incredibly weird.

  • Ken M

So much for any faith in John Kelly.

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

    Back to the mic !

  • Lazycrockett

Is he basically just talking to Drumpf?

  • Anastasia Beaverhousen

Everyone was a veteran. Except you dumbass boss

  • Megrim Twist

Fuck you, sir. That is all.

  • Natty Enquirer

Here we go with ANOTHER appeal to emotion. What a manipulator and apologist.

  • Ninja0980

Did anyone really think Kelly was not going to support his boss?

    • Treant

I was hoping for a more namby-pamby deflection, not the full-on crazy we just saw.

    • Ken M

If he thinks Trump is seriously showing respect for veterans, he deserves to be working for him.

    • Natty Enquirer

I didn’t think he was going to be such a manipulative Daddy about it. But I guess that’s why they hired him.

    • Treant

ETA: Given this…disaster…I can also expect a leak or release about new expansions of Mueller’s probe hitting the airwaves before tomorrow evening. It’ll be just enough to erase some of the negative feelings from this and keep you from getting really, really angry–angry enough to do something–at the administration.

Mark my words. The cynic is rarely wrong. 🙂

      • Steverino

A cynic is simply a politically incorrect realist.
        : )

    • Ragnar Lothbrok

      Not this blatant & grotesque

  • Ken M

And he mentioned the President by name once, and had trouble remembering it.

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

NO speaking unless you know a Gold Star !

    • Lazycrockett

Problem is plenty of us Know GSF. Unlike that POS in the WH.

  • safari

So, we’ll kick out the transgender people doing their service and start kicking out non-citizen greencard holders. Becauese Donald doesn’t love this country, right John?

    • safari

There is no moral high ground for the Trump administration with this.

      • UrsusArctos 🐻

Even swamps have some higher ground, the 45* administration – not so much.

  • The_Wretched

They ended to a chorus of “that’s it?!!??” from the reporters.

  • Natty Enquirer

Well, that was certainly a Touch of Evil.

  • Bluto

This is the narrative; anyone who disagrees with cheeto is an unpatriotic commie who hates service members

    • safari

Yup. I’m not going to put up with it.

  • Bungfefe

“When I was growing up, ‘Women were sacred.'”

    Oh.

    • Megrim Twist

      whore / madonna

    • Anastasia Beaverhousen

      And covfefe.

    • greenmanTN

I didn’t realize she grew up in India.

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

WTF was that ?? I mean of all the sick and nutterry already, this really makes feel something different than even before.

  • Gustav2

    That’s it?

  • Ken M

Now, I’d like to see him fired.

  • colo303

Sad that Trump has to address petty little topics such as these, while nothing about actual important world and domestic issues. Soon they’ll be reporting on what the Kardashians had for breakfast.

    • Tawreos

I get the feeling that if there were less people that knew who the Kardashians are we wouldn’t have Trump as president.

  • Bluto

kelly just lost any & all respect.

  • GayOldLady

Of course they sent Kelly out there because the administration thinks that NO ONE can question his credibility on the subject of what the President said because he lost his son. Notice how he only wanted to take questions from people who were gold star families or knew gold star families. How about those of us who have family that’s serving or has served? How about all of us who have lost family in previous wars?
That was the biggest hatchet job against the FL Congresswoman, under the guise of “you can’t question me because I lost a son”, that I’ve ever seen. He should be ashamed of himself for carrying the banner for this inept, incompetent, sadistic, immoral, lying, malicious, traitorous man who calls himself POTUS.

    • Ragnar Lothbrok

I am just sick over this entire spectacle. Seriously, it’s worse than even I thought just an hour ago.

      • GayOldLady

It certainly is. To see Kelly get up there and make a spectacle of himself defending Trump and deriding the Congresswoman, who was a friend of this young man, had mentored this young man, before he even entered the service, is pathetic. It’s as LOW as Trump and now we know why Kelly is at Trump’s side. I’ve lost any hope that there’s anyone who can control, stand up to or positively influence Trump.

        • UrsusArctos 🐻

Keep your outrage and use it to fuel you to find out what he’s distracting us from. EVERY time he has a YUGE fuck-up he cranks up an outrage.

          • GayOldLady

            I stay outraged.

          • Ken M

He’s there to take orders. I guess “On you knees” is now on that list.

          • UrsusArctos 🐻

Unfortunately, so do I. The chore is channeling it into things that do good rather than erode my insides. I like how you seem to be powered by your outrage to call out what needs calling out.

    • UrsusArctos 🐻

The Russia probe must be getting REALLY close to home, or he’s scared of the fallout from Session’s lie Session. Watch the distraction, sure, BUT watch what it’s covering up even harder.

      • Lars Littlefield

War with N Korea will happen soon. Squirrel!!!!

    • William

My cousin served in Afghanistan and came home with a nasty case of Tuberculosis. It wasn’t diagnosed until after he had spent time with his mother and other family members.

      • GayOldLady

My grand-son-in-law came home with PTSD. He served in Afghanistan and Iraq.

    • Ninja0980

Same shit I’ve seen with anyone who has served overseas.
They really think their uniform gives them the right to say or do anything without being questioned.

    • Buford

What’s also missing here is the obvious… that ‘tone’ is a critical part of communicating and that, communications-wise, perception is always reality. What Trump said is not nearly as important as what this speakerphone audience ‘heard’, and if they unanimously declare that Trump’s comments were insensitive, inappropriate, and disrespectful, there is no proving them wrong. It’s just a fact. The same person could read the same script twice and easily come across as sincere and supportive in one, and then come across as insensitive and crude in the other. It comes down to tone and demeanor.

If TrumpCo had even an inkling of civility and honor, they would simply apologize and move forward… but instead they are determined to ‘win’ this battle by (unbelievably) proving that this Gold Star Family and their State Rep are liars.

      Fugging unbelievable.

  • Anastasia Beaverhousen

I have never wanted aliens to attack the earth and take control more than I have today.

  • Ken M

Nice that got back to the 7 year old so quickly.

    This isn’t playing well internationally.

    • Treant

      They don’t care.

    • safari

What about the widow and her family who said it was insensitive?

      • Ragnar Lothbrok

        Brown widow, family

      • Natty Enquirer

Kelly is too “shockedstunned” even to say their names, I’m sure.

        • Ken M

          Stunned

    • The_Wretched

It’s not playing well for us either. I can only hope the news media carries forth how upsetting this ‘bow your heads and worship trump’ bs is.

  • safari

I am really disgusted right now.

    • Ken M

      Join the crowd.

  • Bungfefe

I just realized my MSNBC feed is ~ 10 minutes slow.

I guess that’s not so bad when you consider that this entire shitshow of an administration is several decades behind the times.

    • Lizard

      Centuries.

    • Lazycrockett

      No they are repeating potions.

      • Bungfefe

My live clock on the screen is 10 minutes late, but that’s probably because I’m a cheap bastard and won’t pay for cable TV, so I watch the news via European sites.

  • Ken M

I’m surprised he didn’t ask for the names of the Gold Stars they claimed to know.

    • Natty Enquirer

I particularly resent this “You don’t get to question me” attitude, as if he could never be expected to answer to a citizen of the nation which employs him.

      • Lizard

Right?! WE PAY YOUR SALARY, ASSHOLE!

      • Ragnar Lothbrok

        Double ditto !

      • The_Wretched

He’s Chief of Staff and should never be doing the press secretary job. that’s not normal. So far as he is there, the point is to answer questions that the news media has. He didn’t do it. That’s negligent at best.

        • Natty Enquirer

It goes beyond bureaucratic concerns. This was about “you don’t get to criticize me unless you have lost someone at war.” That is not a tenable position for a public servant, period.

    • Ragnar Lothbrok

We don’t know that Sarah didnt come back to do just that after the feed cut.

  • ByronK

Based on these comments, I’m assuming that went well!

    • Lizard

    • Tulle Christensen

The speech is over, one arrest reported by the local news here, I live about 60 miles from Gainesville

  • Gustav2

Sarah must not have had an answer for W’s remarks. They are waiting for the news to die down.

    • Lizard

      Would you?

  • Natty Enquirer

Kelly’s performance reveals the siege mentality of this White House. No attempt to bring people together, no kindly redress of a misunderstanding. Just defense, shaming, and repudiation, all while standing on the corpses of dead soldiers.

    • Lazycrockett

Everything is to protect Drumpf from getting mad.

      • Lars Littlefield

Eveyrthing is about covering up that Trump is mad.

        • Steverino

      • The_Wretched

Probably not. This was the WH electing to obfuscate with a Kelly stern speech rather than deal with all that other stuff. They played a trump card.

        • Tawreos

I meant maybe there will be a tomorrow, I am not certain that is such a sure thing anymore.

Welcome to the newest catch phrase…”I’m Stunned!”

  • billbear1961

Kelly has just disgraced himself–what credibility he might still have had, after close association with the disaster that is Trump, is GONE.

    • Jmdintpa

      agreed. the whole thing stunk

  • Tawreos

I miss the boring days of Obama. I do have to wonder if this is what it felt like over at breitbart during his his administration.

    • safari

Perhaps felt, but Obama didn’t do anything like what Donald has been doing.

Oh, lord, they’re going to turn it into a religion just like they try to do with science. I’ve been told I worship science.

I assure you, I do not. I use it. A lot. Daily, in fact. But I don’t worship it.

      • UrsusArctos 🐻

I know a few scientists I would get down on my knees for. Uh, did I just say that in my “outside voice”? 😀

“If someone says something about another faith, particularly liberals
come to their defense in a raging motion, but if someone attacks a
Christian, it’s perfectly fine. At some point we became a culture that
    said that was okay.”

    — From How Sarah Huckabee Sanders Sees the World

(More: “Sanders that day had opened her leather-bound daily devotional, as she always does before heading out to the podium. The one she uses is the best-selling ‘Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence.’ In her office, she read this to herself: ‘Come to me and rest. Give your mind a rest from its habitual judging.'”)

Yup, because Christians have the majority of the power and many of them use it to deprive minorities of their civil rights. How often do I have to say this before it sinks in?!

That is the kind of pharisee crap the vilest girls I grew up around pulled. Ostentatious about being a good church goer without a single idea supposedly behind Xianity penetrating her wall-eyed head. Being mean is a sacrament to that type. You have to earn so many self-righteousness points to trade up for a sanctimonious faux pearl necklace.

  • JackFknTwist

    Holy mother of God !
    Yesterday Trump/turd said :
“I did not say those words the congresswoman said I said. And I have proof I did not say those words .”

Now Kelly comes out and states that he was the one who told Trump/turd those exact words that Trump/turd then repeated :
“He knew what he was getting into.”

So the entire charade of yesterday;’s Trump/turd’s denial was all a pack of lies !

Trump/turd expressly said he did not say those words. ….that he had proof he did not say them.
Kelly has now proved Trump/turd a liar.

    • Natty Enquirer

My dear Jack, the only clue you need that Trump is lying is that his lips are moving.

  • misterjack

Is that damn pearl necklace welded on? Does she take it off to wash her neck rolls?

    • JackFknTwist

Hmmm, ( allow me a shallow point !):-
I think I’ve fallen in love with your avatar.

    • The_Wretched

Her pearl necklace is a mystical object that allows her to appear nearly human. Were she to remove it, we’d see the physical expression of her broken soul.

      • Uncle Mark

I just thought the faux pearl necklace was there to provide something to hang her cowbell from

      • UrsusArctos 🐻

Aren’t you supposed to have on #14 welders goggles before she “exposes her soul”, otherwise you either go blind or mad?

    • greenmanTN

Ha! She fooled you. She doesn’t have a neck.

  • GayOldLady

And Kelly pretending that men and women dying on the battlefleld or during wartime is “sacred” or should be sacred, makes me wonder, WHERE THE FUCK was he when the GOP turned Benghazi into the cornerstone of their battle against Hillary. He’s so full of shit, he should run for president.

    • Gustav2

This is twisting the truth, just like how they made the NFL anthem and the flag flap about something it wasn’t.

    • HZ81

Everything Republican is a hypocrisy. Words and deeds.

Meanwhile, a bigot who has helped North Carolina Republicans with voter id laws and worse is likely to be a judge for a seat that was kept open for 12 years.
And you can be sure he’ll do everything he can to help his North Carolina buddies out.
As I’ve said before, THIS is the most under reported and most damaging part of Trump’s time in office so far.
These judges will be able to push far right stuff from the benches for decades to come.

    • Tread

There has to a purge of all of these people who were illegally appointed to offices and judgeships by this illegitimate president.

  • Adam King

And they’ve still never told us what happened in Niger to get these soldiers killed, or what their mission was.

  • JackFknTwist

    Dear Kelly,
You gave him those abominable words….”he knew what he was getting into.”

Yesterday Trump/turd said he did not say those words to the deceased’s wife and mother.

Trump/turd said yesterday that he has proof that he did not say those words.

Kelly, would you like to comment on Trump/turd’s lie yesterday ?
I’m only a humble poster here, I don’t have any medals, of any kind, not even for the scouts . But I do have a vomit meter which detects cringing hypocrisy and pure waffle. But there is a whopper lie being told here.
Please clarify the proof that Trump/turd has that he did not say those words .
    Where is trump/turd’s “proof.”
    Jack.

    • Gustav2

This administration can’t keep a lie going for 24 hours.

      • YeOldePickyPeckereth

Wait. There’s be a new whopper in another hour or two. Then everyone will forget this one.

Ok General Kelly had to say something to cover for the Orahge shitgibbon but he did NOT deny Trump said what he said only to fault the congress woman for listening in Or in other words the crime was minor entrapment was the major WRONG He aslo mentioned a catch phrase “empty barrel”Never heard a better phrase to reference Trump

  • JackFknTwist

“I have proof that I never said those words the Congresswoman said I said.”

Kelly says you did say them. Kelly says he gave you those words.

    • Johnny Wyeknot

“I never said I didn’t say those words. Because I have the best words.” Stolen from smart people.

    • Gigi

He said the words, but here’s Kelly attacking “that congresswoman” for being in the car with the dead soldier’s wife, overhearing 45’s bungled call to her and reporting how devastated and upset she was by it. How. Dare. She. (Edited.)

      • JackFknTwist

The call was on speaker…..what the F was she supposed to not hear ?

  • MrFitzroyOBE

So, help me to understand this….she was cleaning out the fireplace with her bare hands and then wiped her eyes with sooty paws before coming out on the podium? Is there any other possible explanation? Well, other than perhaps RuPaul is just fucking with her, and laughing hysterically off camera?

Sanders is a straight up deplorable. Tammy Faye practiced some of what she preached. She was all about loving gays, despite them being “sinners” and actually did some good things as AIDS was exploding. She earned her demi-icon status among some gays that love kitsch.

    • Johnny Wyeknot

I mentioned those eyelashes last week. Freaking hilarious
