Fox News Host Bret Baier: Trump Started The Gold Star Controversy By Lying About Other Presidents [VIDEO]

Newsweek reports:

Fox News says the “fake news” mainstream media isn’t to blame for once, and it is instead pointing to the president. No, you aren’t reading that wrong. Anchor Bret Baier said no one other than President Donald Trump is the cause of the latest controversy involving the White House—over calling families of fallen soldiers, including the four recently killed in Niger.

Baier told host Sandra Smith that while “some people in town” will “blame the media for jumping and focusing on” this issue, Trump “turned it to previous presidents and whether they called or didn’t call,” and that was “what started this whole cascade.” Baier continued: “The president opened this door.”

  • Huh. We have here a broken clock.

    • another_steve

Me thinks something much more practical at work here, girl.

If you’re sane and rational and your political and/or professional reputation/legacy is important to you, you must distance yourself from this monstrosity that is illegitimately occupying the White House.

Rethugs are beginning to do that.

      Baby steps, often.

    • Todd20036

read that as a “broken cock”.

      In hindsight, that works too

  • HZ81

Actually, it was by smearing the Khans, but who’s keeping score.

    • FAEN

They’re MozzzLems so they don’t count.

      • HZ81

Yes, the browns. He likes the blacks, not the browns.

        • FAEN

Just the blacks that pander to him.

  • JoeMyGod

Notice that Baier is wearing a purple tie today.

    • bambinoitaliano

Must have someone close to him that at least meant something for him to make that one gesture before he returns to his alt right world again.

      Which means…?

I wasn’t aware either. Glad I accidentally wore purple today.

          • BobSF_94117

I assume all fashion presentations involving purple are accidents.

          • olandp

I wear purple almost every day. My work “uniform” is a lavender button down, jeans, clogs, and most importantly a strand of pearls. My only real daily choice is which strand of pearls to wear…

        • Professor Barnhardt

          Thanks. I missed that one.

After all is said and done, it will be interesting to find out who knew what and when. Somehow, I doubt many of the hardcore have a change of heart, but rather new information comes into their little circle and they realize they need to unhitch from the TrumptyDumpty Train Wreck or they might just go down with it.

  • Stogiebear

If only one of the past 44 presidents in the almost 250 years of this republic had ever composed a message of condolence the current resident might have had an example to emulate. If only…

    • UrsusArctos 🐻

      Fake Empathy! /snark

    • MichaelJ

Even if such an example existed, he wouldn’t used it. Trump is all about promoting himself as being superior to everyone else, and part of that superiority is the belief that there is no need to follow any tradition or precedent, whether it involves releasing tax returns, trying to develop some understanding of the separation of powers in the US government, avoiding blatant conflicts of interest, treating those the military who have sacrificed for their country with respect, etc.

Like Leona Helmsley who proclaimed that “only the little people pay taxes,” Trump believes only weak, unimportant people need to respect tradition.

    • David Walker

Rachel read a letter (literally) penned by A. Lincoln to the daughter of a friend who was killed in action. She had a little trouble getting through it; I had a little trouble hearing it. And then she mentioned that someone in the Pentagon had written a letter of condolences for the fucking moron to use, or at least to crib from, and he refused to look at it. And they claim to be the party of Lincoln and that the Democrats still support the KKK. This place is so fucked.

    • JT

Perhaps he thinks he’s a Drumpf supporter.

    • Jay George

I posted that article on fb the other day and got crickets. It doesn’t count cuz he’s white and he was thwarted. Fucking terrorist.

      • Helen Damnation™

Have you noticed how your Republican friends and family aren’t responding much to the ubiquitous, daily Trump scandal reports? I don’t hear a peep from ’em, even the loudmouths.

        • Jay George

Apparently none of it is true. It’s all put down the the evil librul ajenda. (Even Roy Moore’s son being arrested for the ninth time is because the liberals are out to get him.)

          • ben-andy

Libruls? In Alabama positions of power??? Say it ain’t so, Bronco Billy!

          • Jay George

I had totally forgotten that movie. “I love you Bronco Billy!” *shudder* 😉

    • Lawerence Collins

Thank you for posting this again. It’s getting zero mainstream corporate media coverage.
Hope others here don’t attack you for it.

      • Doubt any regular reader would.

    • Pip

He’s a white dude. MSM will not cover this, it’s a ‘No News’ topic.

      • netman extraordinaire

        A “nothingburger”.

    • greenmanTN

He’s white so that means he’s a “lone wolf,” not a terrorist. Duh!

  • Dagoril

I sense someone about to resign to spend more time with their family. Fox doesn’t let their spokesdouches go off script that often.

    • Dazzer

Jerry Hall, Rupert Murdoch’s latest wife, really hates Trump. And Rupert’s businessmen sons – Lachlan and James – are desperately trying to make the entire News Corp operation more mainstream and appealing internationally. Which Trump is not.

Effectively, Rupert Murdoch has let it be known that although it’s not open season on Trump, dissent will be tolerated.

      • William

Shouldn’t Rupert be in prison by now?

        • Dazzer

Hmmm… is a sarcophagus available instead?

    • Helen Damnation™

Well, after looking at Tucker “Insane” Carlson and Sean “douchebag” Hannity (and all the others) Baier seems to be somewhat more centrist, based in reality, as opposed to Trumpworld.

  • Lazycrockett
    • FAEN

Lawrence is gonna be SOO mad at you now.

        Nice dog whistle there.

  • FAEN
    • Gustav2

What pisses me off about the Voter ID laws is most of the workers are elderly and can’t read the damn ID.

      • FAEN

Aside from that voter fraud doesn’t exist. These voter ID laws are nothing more than tarted up Jim Crow laws.

        • Hank

Do not forget the “Poll Tax” laws as well!!!

        • Ninja0980

And the Republicans have even said as much.
You want to know why this law was still in place?
Because of a vacant seat on the 7th Circuit Republicans kept open for SIX years because of the stupid blue slip.
Victoria Norse should be a judge there right now and Ron Johnson should have been told to take his blue slip and shove it.
He wasn’t, she isn’t and hence the voter id law.
The courts matter, something our party STILL doesn’t get.

    • I read it. Aye, very depressing.

I really hope someday that stupid ass “joke” about Clinton losing WI and MI solely because she didn’t visit there in the final weeks dies a gruesome death.

That had nothing to do with it. All the polls had her solidly ahead in BOTH states, meaning visits shouldn’t have been needed. What happened was in BOTH states (as well as in PA and probably a few other swing states), people who said they planned to vote for her and the Dems were not allowed to vote, due mainly to new voter suppression laws and deliberate ballot site sabotage by the Republicans.

      • Also: Clear evidence Russia attempted to tamper with voter registration databases, preventing more from voting, plus no clear confirmation they didn’t try or succeed in changing actual vote counts.

      • Steverino

Even the exit polls had her ahead, as well as national polls in the final days leading up to Election Day, which never before had been so “wrong,” and that was a big red flag that night that something was amiss.

It was a “death by a thousand cuts.” I do not doubt the influence of virulent Russian-originated propaganda from bots and trolls on social media in the “battleground states,” and perhaps vote tally tampering through Russian hacking, likely with GOP cooperation (treason), but getting shorter shrift are all the other home-grown methods of cheating in the GOP bag of dirty tricks: voter suppression, high-tech schemes for throwing likely Democratic voters off of the rolls through Cross-Check and other vote tampering methods, etc. All in concert with the archaic and now thoroughly anti-democratic Electoral College.

So now we have a government in the grip of a minority political party animated by proto-fascist, anarchic and nihilistic zealots, who are totally enthralled with the interests of the oligarchs, rather than of the people.

    • Jay George

That makes me want to bite my monitor.

    • Ross

Did Clinton lose WI and MI?

      Or was the election stolen?

My money is on the latter.

And I continue to be fucking amazed at how many people are resistant to the idea.

      • BearEyes

recounts and machine inspections were not allowed.
        My money is on stolen.

      • greenmanTN

You and I have agreed on this before. Stolen. To say they did everything BUT this is nonsensical.

        • Ross

          Exactly.

Oh! The Russians interfered all over the place but they JUST stopped short of actually stealing the vote! Such sweet dears!

          Jesus fucking Christ.

          • greenmanTN

I think the government knows it too, but is afraid to say so because it would destabilize the country.

      • FAEN

Voter suppression certainly contributed to her loss. No doubt about it. NC has the same issue just in a worse way.

      • SoCalGal20

There is no question that voter suppression in WI helped lead to her loss there. But there also could have been Russian interference or just local shenanigans at the polls.

I believe it was a combination of things but the voter suppression alone in WI could have led to her loss there since the race was so close. How many people were turned away at the polls or allowed to vote with a provisional ballot that wasn’t counted?

And it was stolen. They purposefully created laws to prevent Democrats from voting

    • CottonBlimp

When the history books mention this sad period of America, I think this travesty of an administration will be blamed primarily on voter suppression. Interesting that our intrepid media couldn’t give a rat’s ass about that.

      • FAEN

I don’t think it will or should be just this administration but rather the GOP/GOTP that should be blamed.

Specially since Obama they have with the help of Kris Kobach have been doing their best to disenfranchise minority voters.

  • Jay George

    OT not OT:
    http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ct-george-bush-speech-20171019-story.html
“We’ve seen our discourse degraded by casual cruelty,” he continued. “Bigotry seems emboldened. Our politics seems more vulnerable to conspiracy theories and outright fabrication.”

“We need to recall and recover our own identity,” he continued. “To renew our country, we only need to remember our values.”

    • Jay George

AND “Bush noted Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election and declared that “the Russian government has made a project of turning Americans against each other.”

“Foreign aggressions, including cyberattacks, disinformation and financial influence, should never be downplayed or tolerated,” Bush said.”

      • FAEN

He speaks of casual cruelty while he threw the LGBTQ community like red meat to the right wing before the 2004 election. The hypocrisy.

        • Ninja0980

Not to mention whom he put on SCOTUS and the lower courts.
          Alito,Sykes,Roberts,Sutton and so many others.

          • Jay George

He was more than happy to tow party line up until trump. Even someone who has committed as many evil acts as Bush has limitations. Go figure.

        • Jay George

Oh I agree. I never have been and have not now been Bush supporter of any stripe. It just awes me that the man widely considered to be the worst president of the United States up until the Orange Menace took office is calling out a fellow party member. Bush is the man who chose Cheney as VP and he is without a doubt one of the most evil bastards alive.

          • Cattleya1

No, his Daddy and Cheney chose Cheney.

As we all know Trump says lots of things that aren’t true. A report Trump repeatedly claimed that a “Renoir” painting he owns is an original. It’s not.

    • Ragnar Lothbrok

Lol, yeah But of course he would

What’s sort of funny about the story is that there currently are protests by art students against museums that hang Renoirs because they don’t think they are worthy of this wall space.

No, hell hasn’t frozen over. Fox & Friends remains a fountain of misinformation and never ending defense of little Donnie, and Hannity is still hectoring the liberals and moderates he invites on his show.
