Tillerson Again Refuses To Deny “Moron” Insult [VIDEO]

Mediaite reports:

Jake Tapper asked Secretary of State Rex Tillerson this morning rather directly if he did, in fact, call President Trump a moron. Tillerson did not deny it last week, and despite how much Jake Tapper pressed him on it this morning, Tillerson refused to “dignify the question.”

Tapper made it abundantly clear to him that if he continues to just avoid the question instead of issuing a firm denial, people will think he said it. Tillerson told him, “You want to make a game out of it.” He did not, however, deny it.

Jake did not ask the right question. It’s fucking moron! Not moron! Sheesh and he call himself an investigative journalist.

  • Sashineb

    The short answer is “yes”.

  • Tawreos

I get the feeling that he doesn’t want to deny it because there is proof that he said it out there, and he can’t admit it because it would cost him a shit-ton of money if he gets fired by Trump now.

    • Chris Baker

He has nothing to lose. He was the former CEO of ExxonMobil, he is worth $245m and is 65, and now has Secretary of State on his resume. He could get himself on the boards of countless companies. He’s got a pretty nice retirement to look forward to. (His salary as SoS is $186,000/yr., he made more that that in one week as CEO of Exxon.)

He probably just wants to make sure there is one adult in the administration.

No denial necessary. There are witnesses and Trump knows all about it.

    • another_steve

Not only that, but someone might have recorded the moron remark in progress. If he denies making the remark and it someday surfaces on tape, his political career is over.

Not inconceivable that certain people in the White House – particularly staffers – are wired with recording devices. Perhaps Mueller has evidence of an ongoing criminal operation operating out of the White House and obtained a court order to have certain people wired.

      • Danieruw

Well, considering his “political” career is less than a year old, I’m not sure he’s concerned about that. Now his reputation/legacy are different matters. Frankly, I’ll be surprised if he is still SoS by next summer (assuming we aren’t all dead by then, of course).

        • John30013

I believe there are reports that he planned to be out of the office by the end of this year–a plan that predates the “moron” incident. From what I understand he never really wanted the job in the first place.

        • another_steve

Good point. A sterling political legacy may not be a concern of his.

But to go back to bilking the masses as part of Big Business, you need to maintain a certain level of respectability. That’s probably what he’s most in fear of losing.

  • Ninja0980

In other words, he did call him a moron.

  • SoCalGal20
    • CottonBlimp

I hope Republicans will have to own this, but I doubt it. They didn’t have to own the last disastrous GOP administration in any way, shape, or form. The media and the Democrats let them wipe the slate clean in 2008 so now all the cronies and bloody fuckers like David Brooks and Bill Kristol get to be respected contributors to “liberal” news outlets like the NYT and MSNBC.

  • OdieDenCO

why do I get the feeling Rex just want to bellow: “YES! I called him a fucking Moran!” where’s Sam Kinison when you need him. Say it, Say it!

  • EdA

Why SHOULD Tillerson bother denying an almost certainly true statement? Letting it sit just reinforces the point, which everybody knows is true anyhow, and makes the former CEO a rarity in the trump regime, an oligarch who is willing not to make a pointless lie.

    • petewestcentral

With the Trumpers I know personally, they are conservative progressives, but they only know adamantly that they are not liberal progressives.

  • kaydenpat

What does it say that Tillerson works for a f’n moron?

    • OdieDenCO

that he will do anything for money and power

    • Chris Baker

The SoS is an important position. It’s 4th in line to the Presidency. He’s probably thinking that there needs to be one sane adult in the government. The position of SoS is going to be held by someone. Wouldn’t you rather have it held by someone sane and mature?

      • kaydenpat

Hmmmm. That you have to ask such a question is disconcerting. It’s not reassuring to me that Tillerson is okay with a f’n moron as President just because Tillerson may get to take over if Trump does something so dangerous that he is forced out of office.

This is not normal. And to be honest, I’m not sure that Tillerson is “sane and mature”. A sane and mature person wouldn’t be calling a dangerous bigot “smart” or otherwise defending him to the public.

        • Chris Baker

I am not saying he would ever become President, he is 4th in line. I am just saying it’s an important position, and he may realize that there should be some sane people in case things unravel. Remember, the cabinet also has the power to remove the President. And, since these high-level cabinet positions HAVE to be filled, who would you rather have in there—a smart, respected former CEO or one of the world’s largest companies, or some incompetent idiot who actually thinks Trump is smart?

          • kaydenpat

Tillerson defended Trump as smart just after his moron comment came to the attention of the press. Anyways we’ll just have to agree to disagree. Perhaps I’m just not in the mood to give kudos to anyone in Trump’s circle. You could be right but I am not in a mood to praise sycophants like Tillerson who are propping up Trump’s regime.

          • Chris Baker

I am not sure what you think will happen if Tillerson resigns. There are people lined up, willing and ready to take his place. Would you prefer someone worse than Tillerson, someone who REALLY thinks that Trump is smart? I am not praising Tillerson, I am just trying to figure out why someone like him would stay with Trump. It could be strategic, like I said, to have a sane adult in the room. Trump implies with we should nuke N.Korea, Tillerson says we should negotiate. I prefer someone who is there to rein things in and give a real perspective on things.

As for “propping up”, we are stuck with Trump for 4 years, and Tillerson isn’t exactly falling into line with Trump’s ideas. We can’t hold a vote of no confidence and replace the government. As incompetent and idiotic our current president is, I would prefer that there are some intelligent, sane people around him to hold him back and give him a dose of reality when he needs it (and call him a f-ing moron to show that they do not agree with him.)

          • kaydenpat

            Ok. Got it.

          • Homo Erectus

How ’bout somebody with real diplomatic experience and credentials? Why can’t we have that?

      • Reality.Bites

Yes, when are they going to take the job?

  • JohnJay

Tapper’s followup question then should have been: When this first came up and you refused to deny it, later that same day a state department spokesperson made a statement to the press that you unequivocally DID NOT say that about the president. Were they lying or telling the truth?

I think this second non-denial will be too much for Turnip to bear, and Rex will be Rexit-ed by tomorrow night.

  • JT
  • Adam King

What does “dignifying the question” even mean? What bullshit.

    • 2guysnamedjoe

I’m not even going to dignify that question, Adam.

    • Tulle Christensen

It means “yes I said that, and it is true, but if I tell you I will get fired”

    • billbear1961

It means you insult me with that question, so I refuse to answer it.

  • billbear1961
  • Anastasia Beaverhousen

Tapper: “Did you say the President was a moron?”
Tillerson: “I did the job I…”
Tapper: [interupts him] *Did you call the President a fucking moron?*
Tillerson: *You’re God damn right I did!*

How it really should have gone….

    • KnownDonorDad

      “You can’t handle the truth!”

  • zhera

The question that SHOULD’ve been asked:

“Do you think tRump is a moron?”

    • billbear1961

      “I know he is!”

    • Ken M

      Reverse it –
“Why did you call President Trump a moron” more fun just being assumptive.

  • Ken M

I don’t remember the press referring to President Obama as “Mr.” They may of just called him Obama, but never Mr. Obama. I have noticed that media does use “Mr.” on Trump. Actually sounds more insulting now that he “won his new title.” 😉

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

WOW, who knew Tillerson was such a tap dancer?….and a bad one at that.

  • Acronym Jim

It’s very telling that Tillerson refuses to deny he called Trump a moron. Tillerson is no stranger to lying; a straight-up denial would be minuscule compared to his usual dissembling.

  • GayOldLady

Tillerson: “I did not call that man a moron……I called him a Fucking Moron, difference.”

  • Tom Furgas

Maybe Mr. Tillerson has seen the Washington Post ad? I’ll bet he has enough dirt to collect the reward.

    • GayOldLady

He can’t collect, he’ll likely be answering for his own crimes in this escapade. His cozy relationship with Putin while CEO of Exxon, then ascending to the job of SOS without an iota of experience, is not something he’s likely to walk away from.

    • The_Wretched

$10 mil is small ball to Tillerson. He’s worth at least $300 million already. Half of that was his going away prize from Exxon.

  • Gustav2
  • goofy_joe

He needs to keep refusing to answer the question because you’ll find all about it in his post-resignation book. (most likely)

    • Reality.Bites

I hope there’s someone in the White House whose job it was to deal with the Trump siblings and Steve Bannon.

So their book can be called Two Guys a Girl and a Pizza Face.

  • Reality.Bites

He knows that if he denies calling Trump a moron the next question is “why didn’t you?”

  • Davidusca

What does a silver spooned arrogant uppity recalcitrant child do when people don’t like him, and or, his actions, and or he doesn’t get his way? He destroys. Everything.

  • ospalh

So, Tillerson comes through as a Boy Scout and refuses to tell a lie, like “no”.

  • boobert

If he denied it, you’d have a hundred people come out with proof that he said it, proving he was lying..

  • glass

Just like Tillerson, we all call trump a moron. Why deny the facts?
    1st world problems!

  • JWC

So far , Tillerson may be splitting hairs but there are some reports he did not call him a Moron it was that hecalled him a Fucking Moron

  • Gianni

Tillerson refused to “dignify the question.”….I take it that Rex doesn’t want to dignify that question with a lie that no one, including Donnie, is going to believe anyway.

  • johnnybc

One more denial and the cock will crow.

  • Mike b.

Time to let this one go.
