LIVE VIDEO: Trump Rants Uselessly About Iran Deal

NBC News reports:

President Donald Trump is expected to put the 2015 Iran nuclear deal squarely in the hands of Congress, refusing to certify that Iran is in compliance with the deal but letting lawmakers decide whether to tear it up.

Congress will now have to decide if they will reimpose sanctions on Iran with regard to the country’s nuclear program, or attach new conditions to the agreement. Those sanctions were lifted as part of the 2015 agreement, and reimposing them would effectively destroy the deal, known as the JCPOA.

Getting a decision on sanctions out of Congress β€” which has been unable to agree on any significant legislation this year β€” is considered unlikely, meaning the status quo on the Iran agreement could remain.

The announcement is expected to come in a noontime speech by Trump, who, officials said, will say that the nuclear deal is not in the national security interests of the United States. Multiple administration officials said the decision goes against the recommendations of a majority of the president’s national security aides.

The only thing this POS knows bout the Iran Deal is that Obama created it.

He certainly isn’t president of this white person or 70% of the people in my family.

      • JCF

He’s not the president of anyone who didn’t vote for him–explicitly.

    • lymis

Does that mean that Trump resigned in his favor?

  • bkmn
  • Tomcat

Iran got their own cash back + interest because we were about to lose even more if it went to court.

  • ByronK

I wonder how the United Kingdom, Russia, France, and China, Germany, and the European Union feel about this. He’s a fucking lunatic.

    • Lazycrockett

Well he honestly aint doing shit, he is just kicking it to congress who can easily ignore him and continue with the present deal.

    • Chucktech

They know that he, alone, cannot do shit about it. They’re just laughing at him, assuming they’re paying any attention to him at all.

    • Steve Smith

Generally, the EU are happy to work with China and Russia in maintaining the Iran deal, and a big Fuck You to the USA. Again. Thus, Congress will do nothing. Again.

  • Chucktech

Here’s a fucking newsflash, everybody: Donald Trump is utterly and completely unqualified to issue an opinion, one way or the other, regarding anything relating to foreign policy, especially this nuclear agreement with Iran.

    • Smokey

You could have stopped at “anything”.

      • Chucktech

Oh, I dunno, he’s qualified to offer an opinion on pussy grabbing, bigly tits, and things he hears the best people saying…

    • JCF

He started reading the history of US-Iran relations in the 70s and 80s, as if he had JUST learned it…which undoubtedly he had (Drumpf’s 1970s&80s? A cocain&sexually-harrassed subordinate BLUR!)

      • The_Wretched

Subordinate? well yeah incidentally. He owned escort / modelling shops. He harassed and abused at whole sale prices and levels.

  • Tawreos

Is there any possibility that for once, just fucking once, he won’t like something, realize there is nothing he can do about it and just move the fuck on with his life without throwing a tantrum that just makes us all look stupid on the global stage?

I know, I know, but dammit don’t pop the bubble, let me dream this is possible, just once, I beg you.

    • Chucktech

      Nope. Zero possibility.

      • Tawreos

        Damn you! =)

        • Chucktech

Call ’em as I see ’em…

  • Nax

Iran, Health Care, North Korea, Afghanistan, the wall. I know how he went bankrupt so often. He cannot make a decision, and continually shifts responsibility. If it works, he takes credit. If it fails, it wasn’t his fault.

  • boobert

He’s running the country as bad as his businesses. Make deals , then don’t honor them. Most sensible people refused to work with him. That’s how the Russians got such a hold on him. They found their patsy for money laundering.

    • Ross

      Yep.

      Yep.

      Yep.

      Yep.

      And yep.

      • DonnaLee

Love hearing your take on these shenanigans dear.

    • Adam Stevens

Can you really call taking old ladies’ money via slot machines ‘running a business?’

      • Tawreos

He bankrupted that business because he is such a good businessman that even with the odds directly in his favor he still lost money.

        • The_Wretched

We’ve seen that only crooks, liars and snakes will have anything to do with him. I suspect that has something to do with everything failing around him all the time.

      • boobert

The real estate part is where the money laundering is. Although , back in the casino days there was a lot of crime money being exchanged. Reneging on suppliers was a big part of screwing small businesses.

    • Moreover, if you walk into the situation knowing Trump’s gotta Trump, it makes it easy to manipulate him.

You can count on him making reflexive, impulsive decisions without thinking about the consequences, short or long-term.

You can count on his extreme intellectual laziness, meaning he won’t have a clue what you’re doing or what’s actually in any deal being proposed.

You can count on him responding favorably to flattery and with irrational rage to criticism, thereby easily controlling his behavior.

You can count on him seeking to cheat and break any deals made. Because destroying shit is the only thing he’s ever been good at doing.

All he knows is being a pretend businessman who is now a pretend President. He’s a complete unqualified, unfit fraud and just watching him, it’s clear to me at any rate, deep down he knows it. But he can’t admit it, he just can’t because he’s a prisoner of his own malignant narcissism.

      • The_Wretched

Trump’s “I’m the best, I’m so good” and the rest sound so much like a RL version of “I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and doggone it, people like me.”

      • Skokieguy [Larry]

Which is no doubt why it was probably so easy for Russia to obtain Kompromat and turn Trump into an pawn doing Putin’s bidding.

        • -M-

He’s so stupid, vain, greedy, needy, gullible and easily manipulated that the kompromat is just icing on the cake.

  • Bluto

No this deal isn’t perfect, it’s called compromise. What it did do is begin the process of the US & Iran becoming civil with each other. There’s is so much mistrust & resentment each of us has against the other & rightly so, but what will take decades of honest diplomacy to normalize relations was started by Obama, the same as he did with Cuba, & I admire him for that.
But now our foreign policy is “fear us & genuflect to our greatness.” That has never nor will ever work for any nation.

  • Tawreos

I think he is trying to wear us all down. The amount of WTF moments seem to be increasing from week to week. Just this week he has been fighting with a senator, ignoring Native Americans, killing Puerto Rico, tanking Obamacare, threatened the first amendment, continued his war on the NFL, pulled out of UNESCO, addressed a gathering of hateful assholes, and now is trying to threaten to make things worse in the middle east, and I am sure there are many other things I am missing. How does one man have that much asshole in him?

Imagine the 9 billion of USA money sent on palettes to Iraqβ€”and that was OUR money, not theirs.

    • RMJ

My apologies HZ – I posted in error.

      • -M-

Uh, they’re contrasting the literal cash money that the Pentagon misplaced in Iraq to the frozen Iranian assets that cost us nothing.

          Thank you!

        • RMJ

Yeah, I’m an idiot, I read it wrong Because the profile is set to private I did some manual tracking through HZ81’s comment history in previous threads, mostly short posts (one or two lines) pretty inflammatory stuff that we all agree with and gets lots of upvotes. I’ll have another cup of coffee and be more careful posting in the future. Thanks for setting me right ;o)

      • HZ81

        1. I created a short username so it’s easy to recall if need be.

Oh, and 6. Worry about yourself. And eagerly awaiting your apology.

      • HZ81

Thanks, you sure did. No worriesβ€”just stop calling my posts inflammatory upvote bait. I don’t give a shit about those either. πŸ™‚

        • RMJ

Noted and committed to long-term memory. Again I’m sorry, my brain totally missed the “sent on palettes to Iraq” part of the sentence and I went down a rabbit hole thinking you were playing both sides of the debate – it was a total brain-fart bonehead post. Sheesh, I’m so embarrassed. Won’t happen again I promise. :o)

          • HZ81

Ha aw, I tease. No worries. I comment at work (usually) and I have only seconds to compose and post, so often times, things may not be as clear on a first go-around. Understand and no hard feelings β€”you bastard! πŸ™‚

Maybe we have a narrow window of opportunity to get Trump to publicly declare that the Virgin Islands need a new president and that their current president is clearly incompetent.

is he going to take questions or should i just turn it off now?

    • Gustav2

Does it matter, he wouldn’t know any of the answers.

    • Hank

I MUTED it, when I heard his voice!!!

You cant apply sanctions to the revolutionary guard, its part of their army?!?!?!?

    • HZ81

He has no clue about so much.

  • HZ81

    So, nothing is new.

Dumb-ass. He really believes he’s the first to sanction Iran?

  • -M-

Don’t forget to go to YouTube and down vote Twitler’s lie fest.

  • Don’t know if y’all have noticed but this is Donald’s approach to anything, any deal or agreement or law or treaty which existed before he took office: Destroy it, with no plan to put anything else in its place.

TPP, NAFTA, NATO, United Nations, UNESCO, Paris Accord, ACA, DACA, FEMA, EPA, NOAA, NASA, all of the cabinet agencies other than DoJ (but that’s been suborned), all of America’s international alliances and existing trade deals… the list goes on and on.

Sure, a lot of it is Donald’s transparent attempt to obliterate Obama’s presidency, but he’s actually looking to dismantle pretty much every functioning part of our federal government and its duties and obligations, both domestic and international. He’s devoid of any goddamned clue as to how to improve anything, so his impulse is to destroy.

Oh, and about the Iran deal? With every bleated word, he makes it clear he has no actual clue what the deal actually is. He still thinks the U.S. taxpayers paid Iran billions of dollars for nothing in return, when in fact all that happened was that Iran’s own money, which had been frozen during sanctions, was finally released. Only dotard Donald would believe that giving someone back their own money was equal to giving his own to them.

Lacking any real understanding about the deal, his only (and completely predictable) reaction is to declare it bad and try his level best to destroy it, even as the adults around him try simultaneously to indulge his undisciplined toddler-level impulses while mitigating the worst of the damage he’s causing.

He is and will continue to be a danger to the country and to the world until the day he’s removed from office.

    • HZ81

If the black man made it, he’s gotta destroy it. Because, black.

      • My point is this is bigger than just the obliteration of Obama’s presidency. Because he knows nothing else, Donnie’s trying to destroy everything within reach. Including stuff that existed before the black guy.

        • -M-

It can’t be any good if he doesn’t get the credit, and a personal pay off.

        • HZ81

          I get that, thanks.

        • joe ho

That’s why Republicans aren’t speaking out against him. They, too, want to return to the pre-New Deal era.

      • JCF

Read Ta-Nahisi Coates: his point exactly. “{N word} President gave us {N word} healthcare: destroy!”

    • The_Wretched

Josh Marshall commented on that trend today. He characterized it as a fundamentally criminal mind set – it’s a shame if something bad happened to X; why don’t you fix it / pay me / perform obeisances.

All this destruction is perfectly in line with President Bannon’s effort to crash the FEDGOV and it’s exactly how autocrats in former soviet klepocracies ran the show.

    • -M-

And I think the unfreezing of Iran’s assets was the last step in a separate arbitration process resolving many disputes between the U.S. and Iran unrelated to the nuclear deal.

      • The_Wretched

Yeah, all of the bigger international deals have a number of (usually independent) parts to them.

        • -M-

Just pointing out that the money, aside from being Iran’s in the first place, was only awarded and returned to them after a whole host of other issues were resolved by arbitration.

We had a bunch of complaints against them. They had a bunch against us, including those frozen assets. Both sides agreed to an arbitration process that, as I understand it, addressed our complaints first followed by theirs and with the frozen Iranian assets being the last issue. Which sounds a lot like using their own money as both carrot and stick to get Iran to go through the arbitration to resolve all those umpteen relatively minor but irritating issues. So a lot got laid to rest, they were rewarded for cooperating so maybe they’ll do more of it, and we also separately got a great multilateral agreement to disarm their nuclear weapons program and carry out on site inspections.

          • The_Wretched

            i was agreeing.

      • It was, yes. Even though it was Iran’s frozen money, that was a big carrot.

Donald only understands stick. Because his imagination is that of a toddler.

    • thatotherjean

He adheres to the Ferengi First Rule of Acquisition: ” Once you have their money, never give it back.”

  • HZ81

Any proof of any of this? Surely, no.

    • Bluto

GB, France, the UN, Russia & China disagree with cheeto.

      • kanehau

But… he said he had extensive conversations about this with our allies.

I guess allies means the mirror in his bathroom.

        • He is surrounded by YesMen, sycophants and babysitters. It’s those beings who are his “allies”.

        • -M-

There were talks. Everyone agreed that Donald was a moron. And he went ahead with this stupid stunt of his anyway.

  • HZ81

    “This is so totally important!”

The only thing, that I can think of, when it comes to Foreign Policy, is that Herr Drumpf just wants a WAR!!! I have no idea as to why, other than a film flam distraction of his being Contolled by Putinesca

    • Adam Schmidt

Because if he’s a war-time President then it’s unpatriotic to not support the President! I mean it’s almost treason! So you’d be required to support him no matter what he does or else!

      • Hank

Hell, Herr “Heel Spurs”, was an adult during Viet Nam. Unless his Dementia has caused him to forget how against the war people were, he will have them up in arms against him!!!

    • To make himself look great to his hardcore supporters. The GOP is red for a reason, blood. The GOP is a warmongering, NRA supporting, lover of dictatorships, hater of all women/minorities/LGBT party.

Trump made a deal with Netanyahu. He’d go against the Iran deal and Israelis are now required to say “Merry Christmas”.

The deal can’t be amended. Its not allowed.

    • So basically Iran will continue dealing and having business relationships with every other nation while the US retreats further into Donald’s petulant isolationism.

There are a LOT of US companies that want to do business in Iran. This will hurt them.

Is there anything left from Obama’s accomplishments? A federal judiciary packed with religious right conservatives will weaken Obergefell for a generation to come.

Probably not much since he’ll still be raking in millions.

Drumpf thinks the Iran Deal has something to do with the Flock of Seagulls.

  • Rex

“Trump Rants Uselessly” will be the legacy of his presidency.

  • Jon Doh

I just reelized today that I am way over kwalified to be presdent.

  • thatotherjean

Preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons is against the national security interests of the United States? WTF? I’d like to know how Trump came up with that one.

    • Adam King

The President under whom it was negotiated was black.

  • So, he’s feeding his core supporters again. What a fucking shitty day, first the EO to basically kill ACA, and now this.

    • I’m not so sure. His core supporters don’t watch or truly pay attention to this sort of thing. This smells more like Bannon’s & Miller’s doing, with some helpful nudges from the Kremlin.

The NFL shit? The ‘War on Christmas’? That’s the red meat for his mouth-breathing deplorable base.

      • I’m related by marriage to two extremely hard core cheetolini fanatics. They watch OAN and FOX news constantly. One of the tv’s has never been tuned to any channel than FOX news, something the owner is very proud of!

The Boilerplate Special: A heaping helping of forty years of right-wing talking points, wrapped in a veneer of faux patriotism and served on a bed of steaming bullshit.

    • Hank

      Sounds like Stephen Miller!

  • Did he have an ear piece in where someone was reading this speech to him? This is not a normal speaking cadence, even by him.

  • EdA

It didn’t take long in this lunatic’s ranting before he made statements that everyone knows are false, others that most people would say “Are you sure that you’re not talking about the U.S.??,” and others that are just fucken nuts. I hope, but sadly do not expect, that there will be a couple more Republiscum who will announce publicly that Benedict Trump should be prevented from doing more harm.

  • Ken M

Trump rants uselessly about everything. Fucking Morons and Dotards have a knack
    for doing that.

I wrote to my useless (R) Congress person this morning, again insisting that as my representative, she start TODAY to loudly and unambiguously call for the impeachment of this calamity. Needless to say, my expectations are rather low.

  • Halou

Trump doesn’t know what a compromise is. Of course we didn’t get everything we wanted from Iran, it was the price we paid to get what we did get. Likewise Iran didn’t get everything they wanted.

Trump seems to think negotiation means everybody giving him what he wants and America doing nothing, like his position on the Paris Accords, he wants to “renegotiate” it so that America is allowed to increase it’s emissions and the rest of the world increases their emissions controls to make up the difference. And he is dumb enough to think anyone will agree to that.

I guess the fact this change in policy is harmful to Europe means he is going to do it. “The West” as we knew it died on January 20th.

    • -M-

Until the Trumpists and Republicans are removed, the U.S. is no longer part of “The West”. You’ll have to carry on without us internationally until we take our country back from Putin’s patsies.

  • ultragreen

Trump passed the buck to Congress, and they will do nothing about it. Then Trump will declare victory, and his idiotic base of supporters will be dumb enough to believe it.

  • MassageBear

Why would North Korea negotiate on its nuclear program if US walks away from a deal international agencies say Iran is living up to?
