House Intelligence Committee Gives Roger Stone 24 Hours to Name Wikileaks Contact Or Face Subpoena

CNN reports:

The leaders of the House intelligence committee are warning that President Donald Trump associate Roger Stone will be slapped with a subpoena Friday if he does not reveal the name of his intermediary with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

“We’ll give it until tomorrow,” Rep. Mike Conaway, the Texas Republican who is running the House panel’s Russia investigation, told CNN Thursday. Asked if the panel would subpoena Stone if he did not disclose the name by Friday, Conaway said: “Yes. We’ll take the next steps. Hope we don’t have to.”

California Rep. Adam Schiff, the committee’s top Democrat told CNN: “We have agreed to subpoena him if he doesn’t provide the information. … We’ll see whether he’s willing to comply or whether we’ll have to use a compulsory process.”

  • BearEyes

Just subpoena the bastard already then prepare to throw his sorry ass in contempt of congress

    • matrem

      Contempt doesn’t apply to Republicans

      • Adam King

        They’re made of it.

      • grada3784

Not quite true. There are plenty of us who have nothing but contempt for the current Republicans.

      • Jefe5084

i think they are beneath contempt.

      • greenmanTN

        It applies but it’s redundant.

      • TampaDink

        They are beyond contempt.

    • Nowhereman

I’ll bet they all think it won’t happen to them. This thing is huge! Every day I try to take it all in, but it just keeps going and going and going. And Trump is getting either desperate or stupider. He thinks he can have a sit down with Mueller and dazzle him with bullshit and all of this will go away. Not going to happen. I’m waiting to see if congress will have the nerve to get this fixed before our next election.

  • shellback

Conaway said: “Yes. We’ll take the next steps. Hope we don’t have to.”
You hope you don’t have to. Why? He’s a FUCKING TRAITOROUS NAZI – Treat him as such.

Uh Juanita, he admitted it on tape.
And he attacked and threatened accusers the same way you claim Hillary did, yet you ignored that.
Not to mention he fully supported Roger Ailes and Bill O’Reilly even after they were accused of the same things you claimed made both Bill and Hillary unfit to serve.
If you’re going to claim you’re a victim and thus can attack the Clintons (including Chelsea), the Obamas, all Democrats etc. when stories like Harvey Weinstein and not be called out over your hypocrisy, you are badly mistaken.
All due respect, I can see why Ken Starr didn’t find you credible at all.

I don’t know what that means. But. Ok.

      • gaycuckhubby

Lol. Gold star gay is when a gay guy has never slept with a women. Platinum star is when they were also born via c-section.

So what’s a gay guy who has had sex with a woman?

There will be plenty of lawsuits but in the short term the unraveling will begin.

As mentioned earlier on this blog, the only way Trump voters will change is when they’re bankrupt and dying.

Then again there’s those that will die with spite for brown people that it isn’t worth trying to change to begin with. And we’re back to square one.

      • Talisman

Most of them were broke and dying in the 80’s and then again in the 00’s. They still haven’t gotten the message.

      • Snarkaholic

No matter how idiotic they are, they’ll eventually realize that no amount of Hillary/Obama blaming will actually put groceries on the table or get their ill asses insurance.
Eventually, and hopefully, enough of them will at least sit out future elections, in hopes of a Democrat restoring some of the “socialist handouts” they so desperately need.

OT: Raw Story posted a link to a new Vanity Fair piece about Facebook. How some former FB employees are dumbfounded at what FB enabled. Check it out.

“Another Valley insider who personally knows Zuckerberg noted that while Facebook has been historically successful financially, the company is fundamentally “immature” with respect to its mission and the comprehension of its impact. And then there are those who point out that while the ads may have only reached a small group of people, Trump won the electoral college by a small number of votes, too”

It’s a little of both. Let the man have time to speak to his own counsel and to consider the advice given, if any. If the government has to meet him in court, it has strengthened its hand by being reasonable. If it looks like the committee was abusing its power by threatening Stone, a judge may become more sympathetic to any argument made by Stone that he’s being abused. We don’t want that.

  • Cuberly Deux

Don’t hate me but I’ve sort of fallen into liking The Orville.

    • houstonray

As a big sci fi fan, I was hesitant at first, combining high end production values for a new sweeping sci fi universe with comedy gave me pause. But I’m liking it as well. And it seems the comedy has been toned down. I have read that Seth has always wanted to create a new sci fi franchise (he’s a HUGE Trek and Star Wars fan)… Perhaps this is “his way in”? Start off with humor, which he’s known for, and then morph it into something more serious?

      • Talisman

I’ve been surprised at the themes it’s already tackled. I really like the episode a couple of weeks ago – where they encountered the ship adrift in space, and the occupants didn’t know they were on a ship. That ep kind of sold me on the series.

        • m_lp_ql_m

Sort of similar to the concept behind The Starlost.

        • houstonray

Yes, and the whole baby gender issue was very powerful and actually surprised me at the end…you know Trek would have taken the safe way out.

          • Lazycrockett

Orville did also take the safe way out, the baby was re gendered. Im interested if this causes the break up of the marriage or its just brushed aside.

          • houstonray

(SPOILERS IF ANYONE HAS NOT SEEN ALL ORVILLE EPISODES SCROLL ON DOWN):

See, I think it would have been safer to just keep her a girl, the first ever, a change for their society, the seed of change, let’s all live happily every after with the shift in culture, etc…I was actually surprised that it went the other way. They did the whole show about how cruel it was, how it didn’t give the baby the choice she should make herself, etc, so I figured that’s where it was going.

A great episode. Hell, it’s still got people like us talking. Good show, interesting to see where it goes.

          • Lazycrockett

I’m just making the same parallel with the TNG episode when they dealt with gender which at the end let the cultural/social norm of the civilization win. I have as of yet seen The Orville handle a issue better than TNG.

The endings of most the show leaves much to be desired. Rescue the captain and first mate from a zoo but leave all the other species in cages?? umm.

Plus the talking blob of goo needs to go.

          • Talisman

TNG was 30 years ago, and the social norms were much different. It pushed the boundaries where it could, but it is a product of its age.

          • Lazycrockett

and that is why I had higher hopes for Orville since it doesn’t have the baggage of Star Trek. It can go boldly where no one has gone before, but as of yet it just wants to be TNG.

          • Reality.Bites

Oh it has ALL the baggage of Trek. The show really only makes sense if you’re a Star Trek nerd

          • Adam King

The Star Trek franchise avoid gay characters well after the social norms would have allowed them. It portrayed a future completely without gay people. I consider that a real failing.

          • Lazycrockett

Trek could never figure out how to make sexuality an issue in an advance civilization where sexuality was never an issue. Could have been easy to to introduce a recurring character that was in a same sex relationship.

          • Talisman

Again, it was the product of it’s time. I remember the controversy surrounding the possibility of Crusher being in a same-gender relationship (S04.23). And the later controversy surrounding Jadzia on DS9 kissing a former spouse – another woman.

          • MBear

A product of their time… the way Kirk kissed Uhura in the original series

          • Reality.Bites

And it was a time when there were LGBT characters on virtually EVERY non-Trek show, SF or non SF.

          • Adam King

They had lots of them, they were just invisible, inaudible and intangible.

          • Reality.Bites

I read that Pete Labarbera is upset that there are no ex-gay characters on Trek. Just like every other show in the entire history of TV – and just like real life, where there’s yet to be one ever shown to exist.

(Just to be clear, it’s not a sarcastic post about porno pete – I read this on newnextnow.com)

          • Talisman

I think you underestimate the acceptability of gay people in the 80’s and 80’s. All the 24th century series were a product of that age.

          • houstonray

AH, I forgot about that episode on TNG.

Yes, the Orville endings are a bit abrupt. The zoo one definitely made me go “huh? what about all the others?”.

Agree about the blob. It might be interesting if it was treated seriously but it’s written too pervy and creepy, ha.

We’ll see how it all evolves. Enjoying it so far.

        • Mikey

when the big dome thingy in the sky opened up I actually had tears in my eyes! I was really surprised at where they went with the episode (throwing the young man to the crowd to be beaten to death? :-O )

I’m REALLY liking The Orville for being a better Star Trek than some of the Star Trek has been (have you tried watching Discovery? I was very excited about it, but it simply does NOT feel like Star Trek to me. It has more of a “Battlestar:Galactica – with more colour” vibe to it. Don’t get me wrong, I DO like Discovery, it’s an incredibly gorgeous show, and yes the story is actually quite compelling, but it doesn’t feel like Trek to me.)

          • houstonray

“Battlestar Galactica – with more color” best description I’ve heard of Discovery. I like it, as a stand alone sci fi series, but it doesn’t feel connected to Trek to me either.

          • Talisman

I had a love-hate relationship with the BSG reboot. It could be sublime, but it was often more of a drudge to make it through.

          • Lazycrockett

BSG should have ended when they found the nuke planet. That series finale ended any good will I had for that show.

          • Talisman

Did you watch Caprica? I’ve seen it on a number of lists of underrated shows that should have been given more of a chance, but I didn’t make it through the premier.

          • Lazycrockett

I saw where they were going with it but it was too late. Plus the first skin job just didn’t gel.

          • Mikey

absolutely, the new “Trek” series has a LOT to really be admired (the set design and costuming for the Klingons is absolutely out of this world – no pun intended), and I’m pretty sure I’ll be addicted to it. But in the same way that I am addicted (like SERIOUSLY) to “The Expanse”, it’s a stand-alone series set in another universe.

One thing I DO hope they work the kinks out of is one of the new gay characters, the blonde scientist dude. His personality is SO grating.

        • Adam King

Ripoff of Gene Wolfe’s Book of the Long Sun, but well done.

    • m_lp_ql_m

The Orville is doing stuff ST:TNG should have done.

      • houstonray

        Yes!!

      • Talisman

Sacrilege. TNG is still my favorite ST series. Yes, the first 3 seasons sucked, but it was magnificent end the end.

        • Lazycrockett

          DS9 Forever.

          • Cuberly Deux

            HA!

            I should have guessed.

Oh and you’re gonna love that I think Voyager is the most underrated ST series ever.

          • Lazycrockett

            ugh. Voyager. Gag.

          • houstonray

I wonder how many of us agree that ST Enterprise was the worst?

          • Lazycrockett

Oh no question. Enterprise sucked from beginning to end. Hey look its Riker and Troi!!

          • Cuberly Deux

I lasted two episodes. It was….. just, didn’t have the ST gravitas.

          • Talisman

The first and second seasons were terrible. Season 3 was better. Season 4 was magnificent. Unfortunately, it was too little too late.

By the time Enterprise premiered, everyone even remotely related to Star Trek needed to be fired. It was definitely time for new ideas.

When you have to recycle antagonists (like the Borg), you know something is wrong.

          • Lazycrockett

Oh god I forgot bout the frozen borg.

          • Cuberly Deux

            Bwahahahahahahahaha..

Still the best intro credits in the ST universe. Except for the fact that either Jerry Goldsmith authored the NBC news theme or John Williams stole it from him.

            https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rKkAew5k0JQ

          • Talisman

Voyager is good if you take it episode by episode and don’t think of it as a continuous series.

As Brannon Braga (I think) said, “Why let continuity get in the way of a good story?” Voyager proved that out, massively. It got much better later on, after the introduction of 7 of 9. But they really focused way too much on her, to the detriment of the other crew.

Janeway was such an uneven character. You never knew from one episode to the next what version of her you were going to get – the earth goddess, the warm mother, the ice queen, the sword-maiden, or the rigid captain. I think Kate Mulgrew did her best, but the character was hopeless.

One of my main disappointments was how quickly the Maquis and Starfleet crews “integrated”. I would have loved to see a lot more conflict from the differing viewpoints.

And then there was Tuvok, The character was great, but they seemed to poke a little too much at the “emotionless Vulcan” theme. He was always being challenged to open up and expand his emotions. The only saving grace was that Tim Russ quite handily weathered these ridiculous plot lines.

And let’s not even talk about Neelix. I wish they’d dumped Tuvok & Neelix in exchange for Tuvix.

          • Adam King

The Tuvix episode was wonderfully written and Tom Wright’s performance as Tuvix was nothing short of brilliant.

          • Talisman

            Yes.

          • houstonray

That Tuvix episode was impressive. Not only the actor playing Tuvix who so amazingly borrowed subtle mannerisms from both actors, but the story and ending was emotional, though slightly abrupt. I think an incredible arc would have been to have Tuvix for the whole of the season, let the fans accept him as part of the crew, and THEN have the “cure” come along. How incredibly powerful would THAT have been at the end of the season?

          • Cuberly Deux

I agree that it was episodic, and I’ll continue to fight for the fact that some of the writing was just damn stellar.

But yeah, there’s a definite decline in the last few seasons. There was such a great dynamic between 7/9 and Janeway in the season where they met. It had the chance to really turn into something.

Makes me wonder if the producers were seriously concerned about the Bechdel test score for the series. As in the lower the better.

The last two seasons were so so bad.

          • Talisman

Unfortunately, Jeri Ryan has revealed that relations with Mulgrew were strained, at best. Apparently, Mulgrew resented Ryan for “intruding” on the family forged over the previous seasons, and she didn’t hesitate to demean and bully Ryan. And the rest of the cast was just as unwelcoming. They resented the fact that Jeri was given such prominence in the series, and often given plots that were originally intended for one of them.

It’s amazing how none of this really reveals itself in the series.

          • houstonray

Don’t hate, but Voyager is my fave.

          • Lazycrockett

Voyager just never found its pacing. There would be some wonderful 2 parters and mini arcs, but then it would just give you several turds in a row, even towards the end. It was so good or bad.

          • Cuberly Deux

            Same here.

          • JCF

Voyager fanfic is my fave! [Janeway/7: so hot!]

          • GeoffreyPS

Is it wrong that Gul Dukat made me tingly?

        • houstonray

LOL, I see what he’s saying though….Orville jumped right in and has not shied away from controversial storylines. TNG did come into it’s own toward the end. That first season and then Pulaski season….yikes. But it was Trek and I was glued to every episode regardless. 😉

          • Talisman

            True that.

          • Lazycrockett

Q saved those early years, and then the Borg showed up.

          • Talisman

I hated most of the Q episodes. Each to his own.

          • Lazycrockett
          • Reality.Bites

            Meme fail.

            It’s capitaine.

          • houstonray

That’s so fascinating how Trek fans have their faves and dislikes. I was never a big Klingon fan, I mean I liked Worf as part of the cast, but whenever there was a “Klingon-centric” episode (where the house of whatever was battling the house of something else) were not my faves.

          • Talisman

I like most of the Klingon episodes – except the ones in VOY, with Torres. I really like the glimpses of the Bajoran culture we got in DS9, and wished they’d done more with it.

I tended to dislike the Troi & LaForge episodes, =

          • Cuberly Deux

Roddenberry was pretty much Q, it was a story/studio political ploy.

It was desperate, petty and childish.

            And, it showed.

      • Cuberly Deux

Yeah, that’s kind of what I’ve been figuring out.

It has a SERIOUS TNG vibe. The good parts.

    • Lazycrockett

I’m still finding the writing atrocious.

      • Cuberly Deux

I see what you mean, I’m sort of 60/40 about it.

        Good/Eyeroll worthy

I’m gonna let it find it’s place. There’s some interesting thinking at work. I actually like that there’s less of a deep deep analogy present. Only because sci-fi geeks have the potential to actually GET what’s being illustrated.

        • Lazycrockett

True its still in the first half of the first season and it takes time for any sci fi show to find its way and gel. I for one like the philosophical high brow more than the street smart that Seth is doing. Maybe bring in a better writer that helps Seth and his low brow humor.

          • Cuberly Deux

There’s a seed there, but OH yeah. I agree. He could use a staff of writers, hell, former TNG writers to help him out.

Having less of a utipoan TNG leash is a good thing here, if you ask me.

What jars me are the constant references to present day (mid-20th and early 21st century) jokes, sayings, tv shows, etc. That’d be like us having widely known in-jokes from 17th century trivia. Aside from that, the premises of the episodes so far have been interesting.

    https://www.thedailybeast.com/white-supremacists-busted-in-meth-and-guns-ring

“Nine white supremacists were arrested in Arkansas, along with 35 other people, on Wednesday as part of a major crackdown on local gun and drug crime.

The “To the Dirt” investigation was named for the New Aryan Empire slogan, which references the pledge that members of the Arkansas-based white supremacist prison gang are in the group until they die.

Law officials say they began investigating crimes by the white supremacist group and quickly realized their drug trade expanded into other states. Over the course of two years, agents made 59 controlled purchases of methamphetamine and seized more than 25 pounds of meth. Eight of the indicted white supremacists are members of the NAE, according to law enforcement, while the ninth belongs to the White Aryan Resistance, a neo-Nazi organization led by former KKK Grand
Dragon Tom Metzger. Indictments were issued for 70 people, with 23 remaining at large.”

    http://www.philly.com/philly/columnists/kevin_riordan/facebook-harassment-guilty-plea-ryan-paetzold-joseph-baird-20171012.html

A few minutes earlier, Baird, 41, of the 2000 block of East Elkhart Street in Philly’s Kensington section, saw for the first time the clergyman he had branded as “queer” online and looked him in the eye.

Baird was no longer hidden behind a pseudonym, posting photos of himself with what appeared to be a machete or showboating for his Facebook fans.

Instead, he was face to face in a South Jersey courtroom with a Lutheran clergyman whose online comments against white supremacy had gotten under the Philly man’s skin.

Guilty plea, and the whole matter is dropped if he “stays out of trouble” for two years.

      The Owl and the Pussy-Cat
      BY EDWARD LEAR
      I
The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea
      In a beautiful pea-green boat,
They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five-pound note.
The Owl looked up to the stars above,
And sang to a small guitar,
“O lovely Pussy! O Pussy, my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are,
      You are,
      You are!
What a beautiful Pussy you are!”

      II
Pussy said to the Owl, “You elegant fowl!
      How charmingly sweet you sing!
O let us be married! too long we have tarried:
But what shall we do for a ring?”
They sailed away, for a year and a day,
To the land where the Bong-Tree grows
And there in a wood a Piggy-wig stood
With a ring at the end of his nose,
      His nose,
      His nose,
With a ring at the end of his nose.

      III
“Dear Pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling
Your ring?” Said the Piggy, “I will.”
So they took it away, and were married next day
By the Turkey who lives on the hill.
They dined on mince, and slices of quince,
      Which they ate with a runcible spoon;
And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand,
They danced by the light of the moon,
      The moon,
      The moon,
They danced by the light of the moon.

      • Ninja0980

She hurt her eye from what I recall.

        • greenmanTN

She did, and according to what I’ve read she had a nervous breakdown after literally days of having live birds thrown at her for the attic scene.

Her follow-up film for Hitchcock, “Marnie,” is interesting in a lot of ways but also quite… disturbing. Sean Connery blackmails Hedren into marrying him but she is “frigid” due to psychological (and possible sexual) abuse as a child so on their wedding night he rapes her. And he’s the good guy!

Hitchcock was angry at Hedren for rejecting his advances so finished the film as quickly as possible, cutting many corners. It has the distinction of having possibly the worst fake horse/rear projection horseback riding scene in film history, just jaw droppingly bad.

I like a lot of Hitchcock’s movies and have read a lot about them, but especially as an older man he became really creepy toward his actresses. Before that he was just mild to moderately creepy! Because he “discovered” Hedren and she didn’t have the power of his previous leading ladies, he treated her as if he owned her.

          • Ninja0980

I hate how some of the people we admire turn out to be SOBS to the core.

    • Natty Enquirer

And ruin he did. Hitchcock held Hedren to her contract and wouldn’t let her out to work for anyone else. He paid her every dime and kept her off the screen as long as he could.

“Based on guidance from the Department of Justice, the Department of Health and Human Services has concluded that there is no appropriation for cost-sharing reduction payments to insurance companies under Obamacare,” she said. “In light of this analysis, the Government cannot lawfully make the cost-sharing reduction payments. …The bailout of insurance companies through these unlawful payments is yet another example of how the previous administration abused taxpayer dollars and skirted the law to prop up a broken system.”

What is it called when you lip your lips with your finger and make a burbling noise to imitate a crazy person? I have tried and tried to find a gif of it and this is the only one I could find.

The Commander in Chief today, didn’t know what the fuck it was he was hearing…
… Again, the Commander in Chief of the US Military, did not know. 25 the 45th.

      One last time…
The Commander in Chief did not know what he was hearing.
Not that he couldn’t hear it… He didn’t know WHAT it was a call FOR.
He is supposed to salute HIS troops… Instead, he throws it to Hannity and jokes that it’s about “ratings”… FUCK HIM!!!!

        what a fucking moran!

  • billbear1961

At the rate Trump’s “mind” seems to be deteriorating, judging from the lapse that occurred at the EO signing, far from the FIRST indication of such trouble, even the lackeys and cowards in our “news” media, try as they might, won’t be able to cover up for him TOO much longer.

If Hillary or ANY Democrat had shown such lapses, the GOP and the press would have been all over them for it, shrieking their heads off about it. When I think of the hysterics over her stumble when she was ill!

I despise this goddamned vicious JOKE of a country.

    • BeaverTales

I feel like Trump supporters hate this country even more. The MAGA crap and the over the top demonstrations of patriotism smack a bit of “The Lady doth protest too strongly, methinks”

      • billbear1961

How are you doing these days, little beaver?

        • BeaverTales

Planning to retire somewhere with milder winters and summers, a decent-sized and pet friendly elder gay community, diversity, good restaurants and a wine culture, and good healthcare. I wish I had started thinking about all of this when I was in my 20s instead of my 40s. I think it’ll be coming together by next summer.

How have you been? Are you finding reasons to smile sometimes?

          • billbear1961

I hope all your plans work out to your satisfaction!

I would probably smile more if I looked south of the border less often, but the Defiler is all over our news programs in Canada, too!

The demented orange beast is EVERYWHERE–there is no real escape, little beaver!

          • BeaverTales

My escape is sleep and avoiding teevee. Which is what I’m trying to do now…

I know it’s not your kind of music, but I dedicate this to you. It’s my nostalgia song…I was a preschooler in the early 70s and I was a happy little kid. I felt safe sleeping in the backseat of my dad’s car listening to songs like this..

Well, I better shut this laptop down, but hugs to you!

            🙂

    • Gianni

Please don’t hate our country for the machinations of this creep of a leader. It’s beyond the majority of us how so many voters managed to allow themselves to be conned and deluded into believing that this thing could be a praiseworthy leader and continue to worship him like a god. If we had an election system like the other western nations where the people actually elect the leader, Hillary would be our President and this clod would have gone back to being inconsequential.

Excellent article, the vast unscrupulous and unethical behavior and lies of the Trumpoeoisie.

    https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2017/10/american-kakistocracy/542391/

“Kakistocracy is a term that was first used in the 17th century; derived from a Greek word, it means, literally, government by the worst and most unscrupulous people among us. More broadly, it can mean the most inept and cringeworthy kind of government. The term fell into disuse over the past century or more, and most highly informed people have never heard it before.”

Dazzer, I see you voting for some posts.

    I hope you’re well!

Stone: I’ll have to put in a request. Then I can put in the name. If I put in the right name, you may not be able to read it until I put in the English counterpart.

Rather not. Was thinkin’ of ya’ this morning, at still dark o’clock in the morning. re: the Bowie exhibit. Difficult writing, some kind of block, anger, grief (Tom Petty) young pup stomping grounds gone up in smoke, aunt evacuated from Calistoga, family keeping me uninformed I had to send video of fire at the end of the block where her house is get any news. Thee fuckin’ last straw with those yahoos. I avoided them last month, post eclipse, and spent a stress free week of not having the dread of a trip across the bridge for what? Agro? Pffffft. Ain’t nobody got time for that. The East Bay’s way cooler and manageable. Other stuff to say. Savin’ it for later.

I have very great old friends in Napa who just flew back from the Beast Coast. Everything intact when they returned, but they have their car packed up and are waiting for orders to evacuate.

Do go to the Bowie exhibit. It’s heavy and good. I never thought a costume on a mannequin could make me cry.
