Dutch Viral Video Ruthlessly Mocks The NRA

1.1 million views already. Vox reports:

When the rest of the world looks at America’s gun problem, it’s often with bafflement. Sunday with Lubach, which is sort of like the Dutch version of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, looked at guns — specifically, the US’s love of firearms. And it’s very telling.

“NRA is a constitutional disorder caused by a dysfunction of the prefrontal Second Amendment in the nonsensical cortex, causing patients to shoot people,” the narrator explains. “It starts with an innocent Colt, but soon patients will show signs of shotguns, sniper rifles, and M16s even. Often, patients use silencers to hide their condition.”

America made up their minds about gun control when twenty 6-7 year old where gun down… along with 6 adults.

      • Gary

Sadly, you speak the absolute truth. When we as a nation accepted these deaths as “the price of freedom”, meaningful gun control debate/laws ended.

        • Uncle Mark

In essence the freedom of one man with a cache of guns supersedes some 600 Americans’ freedoms of life liberty, and pursuit of happiness.

          • David Walker

The “individual right to own a gun” was only created by the Supreme Court at the behest of the gun manufacturers’ lobby in 2008.

The ugly truth is that the Founders’ intent was to protect the states against a federal standing army, and to protect slaveholding states’ slave patrols — that is, the armed recapture of people who had managed to escape slavery.

Where does it say “for people in the militia”?

            It does not.

The Warren Burger guy is a buffoon.

The right to have arms is a human right.

          • The well regulated militia part if you had a brain.

          • Christian Abel

So, where does it say “of people in a militia”, crackpot?

          • Christian Abel

What counts as a militia, buffoon?

          • WELL REGULATED, WELL REGULATED, WELL REGULATED, WELL REGULATED,WELL REGULATED

          • Christian Abel

            What is well regulated?

          • Sorry, I had to go to bed followed by work, hence the delay. Currently it’s an anarchists wet dream in terms of national gun regulations. States vary. Where I currently live, you can’t stalk someone in the dark and shoot them in the back and legally get away with it (Zimmerman,Florida) like in the state I moved from. Free speech is a right also, but you damn well not yell “fire” in a crowded theater, or you’re going to find it ain’t so free of “regulation” either. Now it’s off to bed again after I surf the rest of Joe’s click bait headlines that popped up since last time. Bye

          • Christian Abel

A RIGHT SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED.

            What is that RIGHT?

          • Christian Abel

What is the connexion between “well regulated” and a RIGHT?

In essence, what you wrote is gibberish

          • Christian Abel

            Dispute what?
            It’s gibberish!!!!

          • Uncle Mark

If you are going to call something out as gibberish or erroneous, then it is incumbent upon you to point out what aspect of the point are fallacious; however since you clearly refuse to do so…preferring to reiterate what I suspect you consider a sagacious retort, then I can only assume that you lack the ability to engage in intelligent discussion or debate…either because you’re a bot, a juvenile, or a mentally deficient troll, especially since I haven’t seen you here before.

Nonetheless, you are clearly a waste of my time, so consider yourself blocked. Please feel free to come back to the adult’s table when you actually have something of value to contribute.

          • Christian Abel

It isn’t erroneous or fallacious. It’s gibberish.

            THERE IS NOTHING TO REFUTE.

        • Christian Abel

What if you don’t “accept” these death?

      • Ragnar Lothbrok

Congress. Wasn’t there support to ” do something ” from 90 % of Americans at the time ? It’s still well over 60 % now, I believe.

        • David Walker

Just because voters pay the honorable congress critters’ salaries (and healthcare) doesn’t mean they have to consider what the folks back home want. That became crystal clear when the banana republicans stopped showing up at town hall meetings…the voters were making sense and didn’t understand the responsibilities of ownership.

        • Chucktech

Until the 90% or even 60% make their displeasure known at the ballot box, nothing’s going to change.

But we’re talking American voters, here. They’ll be outraged for a day or two then go back to puppies and kittens on Facebook or the ball game or watching teevee.

          • JackFknTwist

“Yawn” is code for , ‘you’re boring the hole off me.’

      • JackFknTwist

Edit : Unfortunately in the US of A there is
        no mechanism for a “Public Inquiry’;
        no mechanism for a Vote of No confidence;
        no mechanism for a referendum;
no mechanism for adopting a new constitution.

the great system of ‘checks and balances’ limps along with the terrifying prospect of being irreparable and certainly unamendable.

        • (((GC)))

The US system is amendable, with great difficulty. In addition to Congress being able to “adopt”, by 2/3 majorities, a constitutional amendment, which must then be ratified by 3/4 of the state legislatures, 2/3 of state legislatures can apply to Congress to call a national convention.

We’re not that far away from Republicans controlling 3/4 of state legislatures, as well as Congress. They may be able to unilaterally rewrite our Constitution. Just sayin’…

          • JackFknTwist

That amounts to a system of ‘not-amending’…….

      • Christian Abel

I remember! Liberal Holland was too tolerant…..of OTHER religions. They wanted to force Puritanism on everyone and Holland said no. I believe they left England for the same reason. And yet, I’ve already seen online comments blaming the deadly California wildfires on there being “no logging in California*” because they are only too eager to politicize THIS tragedy. It’s never “too soon” for them to try to deny climate change.

*Which is, of course, a lie. Logging is legal in CA, but as in all states it is regulated.

      • The_Wretched

Logging doesn’t stop forest fires. Old, big trees don’t have the same burn risk as fields of shrubs with lots of ground level thin fuel build up.

Global warming makes forest fires more likely as does excessive fire suppression.

        • Snarky

Yep. The amount of ground cover that has dried to kindling in the state is terrifying. Those rains that ended the drought over the winter gave us a lush green landscape for a couple months, but now it’s all turned to fuel for fires like these. And that’s what powers these wildfires – not old growth forests.

But climate change deniers will say it’s because we aren’t logging enough. Asshats.

    • tamiasmin

Or as FDR said on Dec. 8, 1941, ”Now is not the time to talk about what just happened in Hawaii. Yesterday was a day that may be considered, after prolonged deliberation, to live in infamy. But for now, thoughts and prayers are all that matter.”

I’ve actually been thinking of selling my guns. They’ve sat locked in the safe for years. I have no interest in even pistol competition anymore.

    • Sold mine 7 years ago after I stopped working late night solo at combo gas station, carwash and laundry.

That’s the other reason I want to sell them. The reason I bought them in the first place was for personal protection from my abuser who promised to finish the job of murdering me that he failed at.

The gun deaths are an ‘externality’ in economics parlance. It’s as simple as gun makers like buckets of cash and fear sells guns. Fear also sells the republican brand so, win-win.

  • JWC

    Funny, but sadly so True

  • Charlie 2001

Nothing will be done about guns until a perfect score from the NRA is a political liability rather than a political asset. The thing is, people don’t change their votes because of a politicians endorsement by the NRA, but people do vote against candidates that the NRA opposes.

The NRA represents the gun manufacturers not gun owners. The majority of NRA members support doing something about all of the gun violence such as stronger background checks.

  • Pip

We have allowed a lobbyist group to turn us into a laughing stock. As little as six percent of gun owners are NRA members. The NRA has less members than most fitness clubs. And yet we allow them to run our country. We allow them to continue lining the GOP and some Dem’s pockets so they vote to keep us from control over gun sales and ownership. We allow them to regulate what our government agencies can research on guns. We allow them to set our laws. We out number them. We could demand more from our lawmakers. We could make our voices heard. But we don’t. It’s pathetic.
