OF COURSE: Trump Lied About Corker Endorsement

UNSHOCKING:

President Donald Trump’s tweets Sunday morning claiming he denied Sen. Bob Corker’s request for an endorsement are false, two sources familiar with the discussions said. Trump told Corker he was going to endorse him the day the Tennessee Republican announced his intention to retire, the sources said.

“The President called the senator early last week and asked him to reconsider his decision not to seek re-election and reaffirmed that he would have endorsed him, as he has said many times,” one of the sources said.

Trump attacked Corker in a series of tweets Sunday, days after the Tennessee Republican made public comments criticizing him, prompting Corker to respond by tweeting an insult later in the morning calling the White House “an adult day care center.”

I absolutely agree with your first meme above. I have many straight male friends who absolutely agree that straight guys simply don’t ever think about gay men unless they’re hetero-flexible. The anti-gay dudes are conflicted because they want the D but are so conditioned to think of it as blasphemy that they want to punish us because we embrace what they cannot and they hate us for it.

Fun fact though, for this meme I’m afraid that distinction may have already been claimed by William R King. He wasn’t VP for very long before he died but it sounds like he was definitely on the down-low. The meme is still cute though.

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_R._King

        Relationship with James Buchanan:

The source of this interest has been King’s close and intimate relationship with President James Buchanan. The two men lived together for 13 years from 1840 until King’s death in 1853. Buchanan referred to the relationship as a “communion”, and the two attended all parties together. Contemporaries also noted the closeness. Andrew Jackson called them “Miss Nancy” and “Aunt Fancy” (the former being a 19th-century euphemism for an effeminate man), while Aaron V. Brown referred to King as Buchanan’s “better half”. James Loewen has described Buchanan and King as “Siamese twins”.

        • Piet

“Fancy” is also a euphemism for a gay man, and still used in some parts of the country. I had a boss from Utah who would say so-and-so’s a fancy one, meaning gay as a goose.

After over two decades, Hurt’s book was back in the news after a Daily Beast reporter questioned Trump’s chief counsel Michael Cohen about the deposition (Cohen demurred, countering that one cannot rape one’s own spouse). But most of the voting public probably still isn’t familiar with this moment in Trump’s personal history, so we’re reproducing it below.

To set the scene, Trump at this time had just undergone a painful cosmetic surgical procedure to reduce the size of a bald spot, performed by a doctor recommended by his wife at the time, Ivana.

Before we get all gung-ho on Corker, lets remember that he enthusiastically endorsed Trump for President and said he would make a good President. He was also considering taking the job of Secretary of State if Trump had offered it to him.

Corker is your typical conservative Republican: white, male, millionaire, opposed to LGBT rights, and opposed to a woman’s right choose. He’s opposed to the ACA and thinks people should just do without medical care if they don’t have the money or insurance. He also made some “sweetheart” financial deals as a Senator that are very sketchy.

Yeah, Trump is a big time Liar in Chief, but Corker isn’t all that. He’s my Senator – so I know about him.

Really, that episode was too good for the show, although I did get a kick out of the show as a general rule.

More humans are killed by deer than any other species. More than alligators, snakes, bears, sharks and all put together. Deer deaths by auto last year, 153. Next species deaths, bees, 50.

      Something about goose and ganders.

    • SoCalGal20

If they were on the premises to harrass people and didn’t buy anything then good riddance. Even if they did buy something and were harrassing other customers then good riddance. No business should have to put up with disruptive customers.

If they were harrassing people outside on public property but came in and bought their stuff and kept to themselves, then they should have been allowed to stay.

      • Sam_Handwich

i’m not sure they were harassing anyone INSIDE the shop, but they had been outside and the owner got ahold of one of their flyers

        • SoCalGal20

See, I don’t think that’s right. If they weren’t causing a disruption in the business or preventing people from going into the business I think they should be served. OTOH if I knew one of those Nazi shits was coming into my business I would not want to serve them. But I think I’d just donate whatever money they paid me to the ACLU or something and hold my nose, as long as they weren’t causing trouble in the business.

          • Oscarlating Wildely

He seems to say though that he found the poster outside. That doesn’t quite seem like they were harassing his customers. They just put up a poster. Even if that poster was awful it doesn’t mean that he can kick a group out for sitting and drinking coffee.

          • PickyPecker

There has to be more back story on the incident. Maybe he’s been targeted by this group before? Knows someone in the group?

          • Oscarlating Wildely

Maybe. His response is quite intense very quickly.

          • greenmanTN

I’m not saying he handled it well, but you know they weren’t there “just sitting and drinking coffee.” They were there to cause a reaction and to make a political point so they didn’t “just” do anything innocently.

          • Oscarlating Wildely

Could well be– but if they disturbed the public, then call the cops. They can sit there and talk all sorts of smack and if they are creating a scene, ask them to settle it down (like with oodles of drunks any day in a bar) or call the cops. But in this tape– which will be shown in every Baptist bible bumping Trump loving sermon this week and next– they do not seem to be doing more than drinking coffee. And if the shoe was on the other foot, we’d freak.

          • greenmanTN

Probably, but I would also bet my left nut that this video is “creatively edited” to make them look innocent, just like the ACORN and Planned Parenthood vids were. But gay business owners need to be prepared for things like this and react in a way that does not come back on them and harm their business or community.

Right after I closed my used bookstore I worked at a gay bookstore/cafe for a while. We had an ongoing problem with someone leaving homophobic Chick tracts on tables inside and out, and in the restrooms. We finally narrowed it down to one likely guy. So one day he came in and went to the restroom, then when he came out I immediately went in, got the tracts and tore them up in his view and threw them in the trash, without saying a word to him. There was no confrontation, we just let him know we were onto him. So far as I know he never came in again, but that was one person, not a group with an agenda, intending to create a scene and video it.

      • Oscarlating Wildely

From the tape, it seems the owner was upset over a poster. Maybe noting that they were having a meeting? Now, he has a right to say “sorry, you can’t put that on my property (anything posted on property has to be cleared by the owner)” but outside that, it seems that they were talking over food that they bought there. They did not seem to be harassing people in the video. Even if so, that’s public disturbance, you call the cops for that.

No, I think that it was over the poster and he got pissed– and tried to freak them out about fucking Jesus in the ass. (Sorry man, Jesus is old news, Christ’s been getting fucked by Jesus and John for that matter for years.)

        • Friday

It wasn’t just’anti-abortion’ dead fetus pictures, it was actually anti-LGBT hate literature directed against the owner and customers. THey targeted the place for flying a rainbow flag.

          • Oscarlating Wildely

Public intimidation and disturbance of the peace. Call the cops.

    • Dreaming Vertebrate

Not so smart if they were paying customers.
Just gives the “religious freedom” nuts ammunition to fire back.
Of course, if they were being disruptive, that would be another matter.

    • PickyPecker

I’d have to know more about the circumstances involved. Were the anti-abortionists making trouble? Out of line? Disrupting usual business?
Of course it is the owner’s right to refuse service, but……what set him off quite so far? Complaints?

      • Sam_Handwich

        • PickyPecker

Huh. Doesn’t give much detail. Seems as though the owner was wayyy bent out of shape. I’d be surprised if it weren’t more than what was printed on their pamphlet.

          • Max_1

Maybe they littered some of their “pamphlets” on tables and the counter when they came in… ?

          • PickyPecker

That’d set ME off. Sounds plausible given their position on things.

          • Max_1

How else did the owner come into possession of one of their “pamphlets”?

          • PickyPecker

Perhaps they had been right outside the shop spewing their idiocy and handing out fetus propaganda?

          • Max_1

Perhaps the owner was insisting on his right to tell his customers off. His religious freedom is to not serve anti-abortionists who litter his place with pictures of aborted fetuses…
            https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/attorney-general-sessions-issues-guidance-federal-law-protections-religious-liberty

          • Oscarlating Wildely

The fundies don’t want to just tell us off. They want to refuse service. They bought goods (the coffee) and he then booted them. That’s the bit that’s hard to process as presented.

          • Friday

Cause they left out the part where the owner at least found they were spreading hate literature around the shop.

          • Oscarlating Wildely

And when that evidence is proven to be true, there are processes for dealing with that as well. Right now, there is not proof that they did so. If it is, I would still ask if he followed the law in dealing with their disturbance (a la, call the cops next time instead of taking public accommodations into one’s own hands.)

          • Friday

Actually, that’s not where the burden of proof lies here in the first place. They’re the ones making an accusation of discrimination for being Christians, which is patently not the motivation: further, there isn’t some rule what a business owner has to ‘prove’ is disruptive enough. They can kick someone out for not wearing shoes or being rude to waitstaff or whatever, they don’t have to ‘prove’ a ‘case’ that way.

          • Sam_Handwich

            he apparently found it outside

          • Oscarlating Wildely

…. which is public space, assuming the city allows for posting of public announcements/bills.

(assuming outside is not his store’s patio but a sidewalk, street, parking lot, etc.)

          • greenmanTN

Based on a photo I saw yesterday the coffee shop has tables outside, though not behind a railing. They do fly several flags including a rainbow flag and have gay literature in the window, so it was no accident this group chose this place to target.

        • another_steve

Building on PP’s questions… If they came in to hand out literature or verbally push their shit on other customers, the owner has a 100 percent right to kick them the hell out. To call the cops if necessary.

But, if they didn’t in any way disrupt the operation of the business – even if, for example, they were wearing anti-abortion shirts or caps – they have a right to be there.

Their caps or shirts are a form of expression, just like my pro-LGBT cap is.

          All imo.

          • Oscarlating Wildely

I agree. And if they were handing out posters, if it’s public space, they can do that. (If it’s in his store he can absolutely kick them out if they are forcing their posters on people.)

          • another_steve

Not sure a business is/should be legally required to allow anyone to even peacefully hand out literature or posters or attempt to sell things or ideas within the confines of the business, à la “Can I talk to you about Jesus Christ, sir?” Be they anti-abortion or pro-LGBT materials. The owner can certainly decide to permit it, but I don’t think someone has a legal “right” to do it.

That’s not what the business is there for.

If I’m a bakery, for example, I’m there to sell baked goods and take bakery orders, not to give you a venue to speak.

          • Oscarlating Wildely

If it’s public, they can hand out assuming that the city doesn’t require public permits to do. Read as: They can hand out shit in the parking lot or on a sidewalk. Once they enter the store, then you’re right. I meant outside. He notes that the poster was outside, not in his store.

          • another_steve

            Got ya.

            I misunderstood your point.

    • Oscarlating Wildely

Look, it sucks that he has a bunch of assholes for customers. But it’s public space and business. They paid for their food. They thus have a right to sit there. But I would personally have just grabbed the boyfriend and had fun on the couch next to them. Also legal. They have a right to put up a public poster. They have a right to buy food. They have a right to sit in a place to enjoy that same food, assuming it’s open to the public to do so. We can’t kick them out if they can’t kick us out (assuming that, unlike a great amount of states, Oregon has inclusive public accommodation laws.)

      • Friday

Actually they don’t have a right to disrupt someone else’s business, or abuse the owners and customers and then expect service with a smile.

        • Oscarlating Wildely

But we didn’t see that in the tape. They appear to be just sitting there. Now, if they got in his face with poster in hand and told him that he’s going to hell and tried to disrupt his business, then yes, certainly. But again, that’s public disturbance. He seems most pissed about a poster not their actions or their meeting.

          • Friday

They’re the ones who made the tape and posted it, so what they chose to show doesn’t prove a damn thing. Especially since they apparently were spreading the things around the shop as well as spewing their hatred outside and hassling people.

          • Oscarlating Wildely

I’m not disagreeing with you. But the fact is that the owner kicked them out and on face, there does not seem to be provocation save for the poster, and then, let’s be honest, owner handled it in a shit manner. If there is a reason that they are so awful, call the cops. If they are causing a scene and intimidating customers, okay, public disturbance– which is ultimately what *he* did. On face, in this tape as presented, he doesn’t seem to have much cause and even if he did, there are ways to handle it. This is not one of them.

          • Friday

LIke I said, what they chose to show means nothing since they’re the ones insisting a) that their behavior was acceptable despite the hate-literature and protesting the shop for being gay owned like that caused abortion somehow, and that b) They were targeted for being Christians rather than their behavior, which is clearly ludicrous. If you want to let them lead you to imagine the owner overreacted that’s still not what they accuse him of doing.

          • Oscarlating Wildely

Okay, but I’m still confused: What exactly did they do that precipitated this event?

We can’t tell in the video, save for that there is a poster. They could have been assholes. The owner could have been an asshole. Neither of those are illegal but kicking out someone without reason is– at least in public accommodation inclusive states– is illegal.

We can say “the Christians are like ___” but until we see evidence of their malfeasance they have proof that they got booted and yes, he could have been anti-Christian (completely legal) he could have been against their phobic but legal conversation, that is his legal right, and he could have been anti- their poster– that’s also legal. But booting someone for any of the above is not legal until they disturb the peace in some fashion, and he didn’t follow the legal means of dealing with them when they did.

I’m sorry, in this case, even as I despise what this group may believe, I can’t see their fault on this tape.

          • Friday

They’re the ones making the accusations and choosing to omit the other side of the story, so no, they don’t get a benefit of whatever doubt they tried to create about their offensive tactics in the first place. Their tape is nothing when it comes to trying to ‘prove a negative.’ And getting kicked out for that kind of behavior doesn’t become ‘Discrimination against people for being Christians’ even if, say, the manager was *wrong* about what they actually had done.

          • Adam King

It’s their tape, and skips whatever led up to it.

          • Michael R

I can tell they did something intentionally offensive then edited the video to make themselves look like victims .

          • PickyPecker

Definitely something not quite right about this.

          • Oscarlating Wildely

I agree. To be honest, I would love to find out that the owner was all a set up and dude is making things offensive solely to get the Christers freaked out. But as presented, he just doesn’t seem to have cause.

        • SoCalGal20

Were they disrupting his business? That’s the question. If they were then boot them out but if they just bought their food and drinks and sat down then, no.

          • Friday

It would appear so if they and their hate-literature caused so much upset, and frankly, they are going all over the media claiming they were discriminated against for being Christians, rather than kicked out for what they in particular did in and around the shop itself, (Whether that was an overreaction by the manager or perfectly reasonable doesn’t in fact matter, it’s still them pushing falsehoods: the manager’s still within his rights refusing service to individuals for such things and it doesn’t become discrimination against CHristians cause CHristians whine it proves some point about how somehow sexual orientation shouldn’t be a protected class despite that religion already is. ) And since when do Christianists pulling stunts like this tell the truth about anything?

          • SoCalGal20

I hope somebody has video showing that their video is creatively edited. I’d love for them to get caught lying.

    • TampaDink

My thoughts….why couldn’t this be a local story? I’d be thrilled to go to this coffee shop even if the owner decided not to fuck his boyfriend on the table next to mine.
I also agree with several others that there has to be more to this story than the video produced by the “victims”.

    • EdA

Hey, if Christianist fundamentalists claim a religious right to fuck over gay people, there is no reason why decent people can’t claim the same right to refuse to serve religious nutcases.

    • barrixines

The poster he is holding blames LGBT people for abortion. The lying Christianists can go fuck themselves.

      http://freethinker.co.uk/images/uploads/2017/10/abortion.jpg

      Edit:

The poster had been hidden in his shop. The Christers also told him they could save him from his lifestyle. This is all a total fucking set up.

      • Oscarlating Wildely

Look, it’s disgusting. It’s awful, It makes me puke. It’s beyond vile.

And a court will find that it’s free speech.

And doesn’t mean that a person can kick someone out of the inside of a store for handing it out before they entered it.

        • barrixines

He says the poster was hidden in his shop not outside. I believe him.

          • Oscarlating Wildely

Okay, so a person may or may not have done that from that group. I think that they’re still going to get him on public accommodation. It was hidden and he does not have proof that they did so, or that they or it, affected his business. He also says he saw it outside. If he was personally threatened, *call the cops.* He’s taking a public law into his hands. I just don’t think that his response will hold up in court.

          • barrixines

I am not trying to be on your case here but coming down the pipe is Jim Crow 2 specially for all you lovely American LGBT people. And you’re worried about a gay bloke not playing nicely enough with a bunch of Christers who set him up. One can be too nice.

          • Friday

Public accommodations laws, again, just don’t work that way. And actually you dont’ have to serve customers that personally threatened or abused you outside your shop, either.

Also again they lied about it being ‘because they were Christians’ when it was clearly about the defamatory and disgusting hate-literature, plus their own obnoxious behavior and provocations.

Yeah, the intended message is sound, but it’s also off-key, especially when the lead guy calls out “black guys” and then at the end there’s a Bible passage reference, so… the whole thing feels contrived and yuck.

The religious overtone can be off putting…
However, I think Adam Donye put it there to remind the Christian viewer about the wood we all carry in our own eyes for our brother. Me thinks this was an exercise AT a Christian camp to teach compassion and humility. Unfortunately, not many POC were toward the front… Maybe they had an open dialogue afterward about systemic and institutional racism and abuse. Maybe?

          • AJ Drew

Well, with due respect, Me thinks it may have been well intentioned but most certainly was scripted and a fail, but it hit its Mark 16:15.

It’s too bad, sen. corker, that so few of you saw fit to state this long before the election.

Most of them were just as shocked to have him win as we were.
They probably figured why go against the party to stop a man that had no chance of winning anyway.

They may have been shocked to see him win, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t want him to or weren’t happy about it.

There was never any doubt (they) could destroy it.
The difference now is (they ) will have to take ownership for the destruction and people not having any health care. They cannot blame it on Democrats if there is a trail of sabotage straight to (them).

OT: it is a strange day, for me here in Denver. Oh dark thirty this am, on my second cup of coffee when the floor shakes and the windows quake as a rumble of thunder vibrates thru the house. Should I duck and cover? would it matter? then, I reason, the flash should have arrived first with the EM pulse a close second and the computer I’m on and I would be done. put on a second pot of coffee to get me thru the house cleaning.

chores are done, dog is walked, time to read some J.M.G. It’s around 3. that golden afternoon fall sun is filling the yard as I set up on the patio, tea, bong and Louie, the dog. the highway, I 25 only blocks away usually a constant drone of sound is silent. Unfortunately, this phenomenon comes with the price of the pop, pop, pop of gun fire coming from the Cherry Creek park firing range 15 miles distant.

    O/T Rant…
I’m so sick and tired of the military and veterans as the trope in all of the discussions about Kapp and taking a knee… Where else can a person of color speak out and be heard in America where it can break through all the white privilege America has been built upon BUT one where people of color have been forced to be seen as symbols of “patriotism” instead of just being top level athletes in their field. This perspective changed after 9/11 and the introduction of the military into the pageantry before each and every fucking game in America… Who needs military parades when you can just turn on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Sunday sports game and watch the military parade in pre-game “festivities” (eat your heart out, Un). No wonder these players are being treated as if they’re not “patriots”. They’re now linked to militarism and the Nation… They, too, MUST OBEY! “Follow the orders” or be canned by the bossman… Two teams have issued threats to their players and some high schools and colleges threaten retaliatory action. Did they think this one up on their own before the Dotard spoke of it? This has ALWAYS been about police brutality and any attempt by our elected Officials to muddy this up only should serve as an opportunity to witness their wilful ignorance about race in America that they have to play the military card…

One can be patriotic without putting the military on a pedestal.

Some in the progressive wing are annoyed at her likely to run for another term referring to her as a “mummy” well unless you have a Kamala Harris candidate stored away, that “mummy” is going to be doing her job like she has for years.

But i also don’t hear the same argument for Sanders either. So we have a double standard here. Yes there should be diversity in age with new blood coming in, but experience matters unless there is strong enough candidate to fill that seat, the incumbent (democrat) normally should seek re-election.

      • worstcultever

        eww, but yep

    • Sam_Handwich

I’m very happy with DiFi staying. Berine too

IMO, there is a continuum that must be maintained. and we saw that on the other side with TrumpCare. not perfect, but **especially at this point in time** i’d rather have seasoned legislators than rigid novices

      • worstcultever

Yes but also dunno – I feel both ways. We’ve got young fresh kickass Kamala in the other CA seat, so I’m ok. And on the House side – Pelosi can stay till she’s 100. The pukes and B bros love to trash her, because (pukes) she’s the most skilled goddamn congressional cat herder since Tip O’Neill and maybe even LBJ, and (B bros) because why else, she’s a girl.

      • Blake J Butler

The problem is some people are tired of seeing her in that same seat, and progressives hate it because she isn’t endorsed by our revolution or personally endorsed by sanders. She isn’t good enough for them. She has a primary challenger(s) but very likely she will glide past the nomination to the general election with a likely candidate that will never have a shot at beating her.

I cannot say the same for sanders, lately, he hasn’t upset me as often minus the debacle with Hillary’s book signing and his base getting sexist because it was like she wasn’t supposed to speak out. But I am on the fence and watching him if he somehow gets it into his head to run again or throw a mini-me candidate into the ring to divide the party again.

    • johncAtl

I’m not annoyed that she might run again, although I’d like to see a younger candidate. But if the voters in her district want to reelect her then she should go back for another term. My congressman is John Lewis, who is 77, and I’ve been happy to vote for him for 30 years. If he’s the 5th district candidate in Georgia next year I’ll vote for him again.

But I firmly believe that we need a new generation of Democratic leaders. Despite the tampering by Russia we should not have lost the White House, and we should have taken the Senate. Obama connected with, and energized, young voters in 2008. Feinstein, Pelosi, Schumer and others don’t have that same ability. And we’re going to keep losing until we bring a new generation of leaders into the party.

    • UrsusArctos

I’ve never liked DiFi, but she is a reliable Democratic vote. She ALWAYS reaches “consensus” by giving away the farm because it might hurt her corporate sponsors. She used the shooting of Harvey Milk to propel her career. At least she has generally held to good positions on LGBTQ issues – economic ones, not so much.
All that said, if she runs, I hope she wins.

      • netxtown

well, in all honestly, I was never actually able to fake an orgasm…so maybe fake isn’t really real….

    • JAKvirginia

Interesting: when you look up “fake” in the dictionary, there’s his pic!

    • johncAtl

Such a wonderful day that was. I was 19. There was no disease known as AIDS. And Nixon resigned.

      • Rebecca Gardner

I was 7. August 1974 my biggest concern was not enough time in the pool.

        • JCF

12, and ECSTATIC over the resignation! The alternative rock station had special celebratory programming—my brother (always a radio nut) has a recording of it somewhere. My mom tended to be a tense and nervous person (around me, anyway), but she was in a spectacular mood that day: I still remember it…

that’s basically what happened to Nixon.

    • DaddyRay

Corker needs to put his money where his mouth is and call for impeachment

      • Ninja0980

Or he and McCain need to switch to D.
IMO, that is what it will take to get Republicans to get rid of him.

    • JohnJay

I’d imagine nearly every Senate Democrat, too.

    • TampaDink

If this is the case & they’re all going to sit there with their collective thumbs up their assholes and wait for nuclear war to begin, out of fear that Asshole Twitler will talk smack about them & cause them to potentially lose their bids for reelection, then they are all fucking cowards. It was bad enough when they made it clear that their agenda would always be party before the good of the nation but if they all think that hair furor is dangerous & unfit and they do nothing, causing millions of people to die they are all fucking monsters.

This interview was planned out. this was not off the cuff. I think something’s going on here the beginnings of the resistance. He wouldn’t be throwing every single one of his colleagues under the bus, I think in the coming days and will see a drip drip drip of Republicans coming out against Trump

    • johncAtl

The Republican philosophy — “I’ve got mine, fuck everyone else.”

      • Tomcat

I though it was I got mine and I am now after yours.

corker will be there for over another year. maybe he’s been chosen to draw the line in the sand. (and i think he also he pledged to run only for two terms, anyway.)

but Don’s reaction to all this is the most telling part of all.

      • Tomcat

No he had said he could not imagine himself serving more than two terms, but he already has.

    • netxtown

they keep him in the middle of the road by showing him the ‘white’ lines –

      • TampaDink

THEY are the only ones with the power to MAKE IT SO – yet collectively they still do NOTHING BUT COWER

  • gaycuckhubby

This feels different to me, y’all.
I think the Republicans know the only way they can advance their policy issues is to keep Trump in office and try to control him.
They have tried that with zero success. The more he speaks out on North Korea the more they begin to fear for the safety of our country the more they are likely to speak up against him.

    • DaddyRay

I think Trump knows Mueller is closing in and is prepared to go scorched earth

      • gaycuckhubby

As long as that’s not literal I’m okay with him trying

        • DaddyRay

Oh I am speaking literal – it is the ultimate distraction move

          • gaycuckhubby

I think that’s all of our biggest fear

        • Tomcat

Scorched earth as in don’t stop until every rat has been caught in the trap.

    • Tomcat

They know they could pass more legislation with Pence so I don’t see the reason for defending trump.

      • gaycuckhubby

I think they know the base is still with Trump and to vote to take him out destroys their coalition

        • Tomcat

Their base only cares that republican agenda gets passed.
They are for him because he told them ONLY he could do it.
Surely by now they ( although they won’t admit it) know he is bullshit.

          • gaycuckhubby

I don’t know about that Trump got to where he is based on cult of personality his base is small but it is steadfast and they love him

Can’t believe that Churchill ever used the word ‘pants’. Indeed:

“A lie will go round the world while truth is pulling its boots on.”

      C. H. Spurgeon, Gems from Spurgeon (1859). An earlier version appears in the Portland (Me.) Gazette, Sept. 5, 1820: “Falsehood will fly from Maine to Georgia, while truth is pulling her boots on.” Still earlier, Jonathan Swift wrote in The Examiner, Nov. 9, 1710: “Falsehood flies, and the truth comes limping after it.”

  • MikeBx2

Just coming in from a busy family day and catching up on the news. By the way they’re behaving, you can tell Trump and Co. know a storm is coming. Hurricane Mueller is closing in.

  • Ninja0980

Had an argument with a friend of mine who thinks a couple of the people being confirmed to Circuit courts won’t be so bad since they are both women.
Pointed out to him that before SCOTUS, the ruling from the 5th Circuit that said having to drive 300-400 miles to get a legal abortion wasn’t an undue burden and the rulings that religious companies could decide what medical treatment their employees were entitled to were all written by George W Federalist Society hacks whom were all women.
The two women getting confirmed will be no different.
Yes we need more women,POC and LGBT folks on the courts but of the progressive/liberal kind, not Scalia in a dress kind.

  • Tomcat

Lets just hope that the storm he speaks of isn’t that he has figured out a way to stop Mueller. Every time we start to grasp hope it gets ripped away from us.

    • DaddyRay

I am confident that Mueller has prepared for contingency up to and including Russia sending him tea

          • Tomcat

Rutabaga, turnip, squash as long as he just babbles and drools I am fine with it.

          • TampaDink

OT: Ugh. Windows 10 just decided to update itself and take over three quarters of my system’s memory and disk access time. I’ve been dealing with this thing for more than a year and I’m really learning to hate it. It’s a total memory hog, decides it wants to run my drives at 100% for a half an hour at a time, takes forever to boot, and doesn’t ever ask if I want it to suddenly lock up everything for its own purposes.

    • billbear1961

I’ve been wondering why it is that, at times, you can hear this machine running, running, running, and taking FOREVER to do what I want it to do!

Thanks to you guys, I now KNOW!!

Windows 7 really was the superior operating system. Windows 8.x with full updates and the restored Start menu is perfectly serviceable (Mom uses it and loves it).

I’m seriously considering a move back to Windows 7, 64-bit.

        • Ninja0980

I miss Windows 7 as well.
Of course, I miss the Windows 95 system but that’s because I could play King’s Quest and Doom on it.

        • johncAtl

Windows 7 Pro is a perfect operating system. I hated Windows 8 and only use Windows 10 because I have to for work. For personal computing I have a Mac Book Pro. Apple never forces an update on me.

          • Ninja0980

I am thinking to switching to that.

I hate that about Windows 10. A couple of weeks ago I knew I had a conference call coming up in about five minutes so I went to the bathroom and then to the kitchen to get water. I got back to the PC and Windows was updating itself. If I hadn’t been able to get the conference call info from my phone I would have missed the first fifteen minutes of the call.

      • grada3784

Only 15 minutes? When Windows updates on me, it’s hours long.

    • Ninja0980

I’m an Apple guy, but friends in IT say that this is by design. The goal is to get you to buy a new and more powerful computer. This is what Microsoft did with Word and the other programs in the Office suite. It’s awful. I have a freelancer who works for me who neve mentions Widows 10 without profanity. Sorry you’re going through this.

      • Treant

I installed a dual-boot very late last night. It’s nothing but the OS at this point, although if it goes well, I’ll be stepping backwards.

And the reason is exactly that. It’s dogging it on a four-processor machine with 4 GB. It shouldn’t be. Yes, the machine is rather old, but the industry simply hasn’t gone that far in the intervening years; 8 GB with 4 to 6 processors is still the norm.

After Wood’s death Wagner became very sketchy to me.

      • Ross

There has never been any evidence linking Wagner to Wood’s death.

It is very sad to me that people nonetheless diminish the man, who lost a wife and mother to his child.

      • Ninja0980

I see both sides of it.

Did Hollywood star Natalie Wood walk in on husband Robert Wagner and Christopher Walken having sex on the night she drowned?

A log has been uncovered that suggests Wagner and Walken were engaged in a sexual act when Wood walked in on them on the night she died

Wood drowned, age 43, after going overboard her 60-foot yacht Splendor on November 29, 1981

Police and the coroner at the time ruled her death accidental
Husband Robert Wagner, now 82, denies being involved in her death and has never been charged

A new coroner’s report released in January found she had bruises on her wrists, knees and ankles that could have been ‘non accidental’

      http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2303569/Did-Hollywood-star-Natalie-Wood-walk-husband-Robert-Wagner-Christopher-Walken-having-sex-night-drowned.html#ixzz4uyvxqaCI

I’m still wary of Wagner’s one sided version of events. He always gave me a gay vibe, and he’s a bit sketchy…

        “Could have been”

        I find this all appalling.

And, Wagner gives you a “gay vibe”?

So, you think that gay men are automatically murderers?

Do you also think Hillary murdered Vince Foster?

        • BeaverTales

The Daily Fail has enough salacious gossip to keep Inquiring Minds coming back for more. The LA county medical examiner found enough evidence to reopen the case decades after her death.

          http://www.nbcnews.com/video/nightly-news/45362325

Wagner is always free to sue for libel, of course..

          • Reality.Bites

My point is not a comment on the facts of this case, but on the “reporting” of the Daily Mail on anything – especially their “reporting” on a National Enquirer “exclusive” unreported in any legitimate publication of any kind.

I’ll also point out that their story is four years old and the NBC story is six years old and said “police say her husband Robert Wagner is not a suspect in the actress’ drowning”

For all I know Wagner murdered her in cold blood – but we certainly don’t know a fucking thing as a result of the National Enquirer and Daily Mail.

          • BeaverTales

Well, we won’t know unless Walken or Wagner fesses up on their deathbed… the boat captain has turned down big cash offers for his version of events, including the entry about gay sex.

I, for one, am just not too shocked at the idea of Wagner and Walken getting their freak on while Natalie was passed out drunk. I have a more open mind than I did when it first happened.

I didn’t expect it to upset someone’s closely held ideal of straight white perfection and unquestioned innocence. I know lots of straight guys (and gals) who swing both ways. Nothing terribly unusual to me.

The number of Google accessible articles written about the night of her death are legion…People have been speculating about her death for 35 years, it is highly unusual for one of the leading coroner/Medical Examiners in the country to reopen a case after 20 years without a good reason, then change the manner of death to one with more sinister implications..

          • Ross

You wrote: “it is highly unusual for one of the leading coroner/Medical Examiners in the country to reopen a case after 20 years without a good reason.”

True. But do you know WHY they reopened the case?

Because of legions of conspiracy nuts which kept hounding them.

          • BeaverTales

Noguchi himself said “mistakes were made” on the original autopsy in his book “Coroner”.

            From the LA Times:

            http://articles.latimes.com/2013/jan/14/local/la-me-01-14-natalie-wood-20130115

When the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department reopened the case in November 2011, around the 30th anniversary of her death, skeptics questioned the timing and doubted whether there was anything new to be learned.

Instead of quieting speculation, however, the investigation has raised fresh — and probably unanswerable — questions about one of Hollywood’s most enduring puzzles.

In a report released Monday, the coroner, Lakshmanan Sathyavagiswaran, questioned the original 1981 findings and changed Wood’s cause of death from “accidental drowning” to “drowning and other undetermined factors.”

The coroner’s report cited unexplained fresh bruising on the actress’ right forearm, left wrist and right knee, along with a scratch on her neck and a superficial scrape on her forehead. Officials said the wounds open the possibility that she was assaulted before drowning.

“This Examiner is unable to exclude non-accidental mechanism causing these injuries,” the report said, adding that evidence suggested the bruising occurred before Wood entered the water.

Sheriff’s investigators said that the Wood case remains open but that detectives have reached an impasse. One law enforcement source who has worked on the case said detectives may never have a conclusive answer given that “evidence is stale — with fading memories and incomplete forensics.”

The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the case is ongoing, said there was not enough evidence to classify the case a crime, much less a homicide.

Experts said it was highly unusual for coroners to contradict the autopsy findings performed by their own office. Michael Baden, a former New York examiner and noted trial expert witness, said that although both examinations of Wood’s body looked at the same evidence, the new report found the bruising to be far more significant — enough to change the cause of death.

          • Ross

And….nothing you posted states that Wagner murdered his wife.

And any bruises or scratches to Wood could have happened if Wood fell into the water and struggled to get out.

            Wood was VERY drunk.

I once fell off a boat, at night, while totally sober. I clawed my way back onboard. I doubt I would have made it drunk.

      • Lumpy Gaga

I adore Walken. But never EVER darken my door again with mental images of him getting it on with the odious-but-hot Robert Wagner.

      • William

I heard that story at least 20 years ago. Still no way of knowing if it is true.

        • BeaverTales

So much has been written about it that the case will never be closed without a confession. To not bring it up would be like *not* discussing Marilyn and JFK. It’s all fair game and public domain.

          • Ross

You wrote: “It’s all fair game.”

And THAT is why Trump is in the White House instead of Hillary.

Fo almost thirty years the right has defamed her, accused her of murder, and and lied about her.

But, as far as you are concerned, it’s all fair game.

            Have you no decency?

          • BeaverTales

Why are you so obsessed with changing the topic to Hillary? I was talking about Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner.

I only have this to say about Hillary:

Hillary is 100% done, stick a fork in her. I wish her a lovely retirement.

The 2018 midterms are only a year away, and 2020 is our first chance to be rid of Trump forever. THAT is more important than what some rightwinger said or thinks about Hillary.

It’s spilled milk…Please just try to move on and stop living in 2016.

          • Ross

My comments have been but nominally about Hillary, and even then only in reference to your stating that defaming a person is fair game. Which I find indecent.

And your optimism about 2018 and 2020? I wish I could share it, as I am 100% convinced that 2016 was a stolen election. And I see nothing happening to assure the security of any future elections.

So, you see, 2016 does still matter.

          • BeaverTales

If you can’t post honestly , you’re dead to me forever.

I didn’t say ” defaming a person is fair game”

Liar. Fuck off and go take your fucking meds.

          • Ross

            You ARE defaming Robert Wagner.

And you wrote that bringing up scurrilous rumors about Wagner is “fair game”.

In short, you ARE defaming Wagner, which you believe is fair game.

Again, have you no decency, sir?

  • Lazycrockett

The Klingons are so damn annoying in this new Star Trek show.

    • houstonray

We watched the first two but figured we’d wait until the whole season was available. before we paid for it. Huge Star Trek fans here but just not sure about this. It’s SO different.

I wished they had gone forward in time, after TNG maybe 100 years and have all new ships and tech and species.

      • Lazycrockett

Even if they wanted to do yet another prequel there is no reason to use yet another version of Klingon.

        • houstonray

True, and these are the most radically different of all. I mean, they are cool and well done, but as another alien culture of some sort, not as Klingons we’ve all become familiar with.

Prequels, especially with Trek fans, are so fraught with problems in continuity, canon, etc. Hell, they could have moved forward in the timeline and still used these as “something happened to the Klingon race”, some genetic disorder or something.

But we’ll watch at some point. It is Trek after all. 🙂

        • Reality.Bites

I don’t mind the cultural differences, since we’re looking at them in different time periods – and of course in classic Trek they were little more than cartoon villains anyway.

I think the basic look should have stayed the same as Next Gen but improved (not changed) to look more like living beings who happen to look like that and less like humans in prosthetic makeup.

      • Reality.Bites

What I find amusing is that there were people who were thrilled the show is set in the original timeline, not the new movie one.

But this is, as you say, SO different. That’s totally fine with me. The old show, and even next generation, are horrifically dated. Those of us who enjoyed them will continue to, but the storytelling, the effects and design are, by today’s standards, rather crude and unsophisticated.

What I find somewhat amusing is that one could easily watch Discovery with no previous Trek experience, but Seth McFarlane’s show would make no sense to someone not steeped in Trek.

Honestly, I can’t decipher anything here.

Although based on the technology on view in this show (like the holographic long distance communication with Starfleet), I’m starting to suspect the Klingons bombed the Federation back to the stone age and they hadn’t come all the way back yet by the time of Voyager.

Glad to see you. Sorry to hear about your loss and the depression. These are tough times. And for those of us who struggle with depression, it’s ongoing. Take good care of yourself, and as others have suggested, talk it out. In my experience it’s the only thing that helps over time.

        Thanks.

A group of my friends are getting together on Friday or Saturday, sort of an impromptu wake for our mutual friend. That’ll help. We’ve all been in a seemingly overwhelmed state.

I’m very very sorry to hear about you friend. The rest as, you’ve quite correctly diagnosed it, is just fuckery. Depression has always been along for the ride in my life and at times I realise I have to stop poking the bear with a stick. Putting your social media activities back in their place is you actively taking care of yourself. That’s good mental health. Grief is honouring the life of someone we lose and also good mental health – don’t let the fuckery get in the way of mourning and, indeed, celebrating the life and death of your friend.

Come back here only when and if you’re ready. You’re missed – but that’s our problem not yours 😉 Look after yourself.

Thanks so much for your comment.

We could all use a break about now, or so it seems.

I just wanted to say you’re right that taking care of yourself has to be your number one priority, regardless of everyone else’s expectations.

I hope you have someone good to talk to when you get tired of being stuck in bed under a spiral of frustrating thoughts and the endless reminders of how unfair life is…it’s a rough world out there.

We all deserve happiness, and I hope you find it. Good luck with everything and have faith in yourself.
