Pat Robertson Blames Las Vegas Attack On Disrespect For Trump, The National Anthem, And God [VIDEO]

Kyle Mantyla reports at Right Wing Watch:

On “The 700 Club” today, televangelist Pat Robertson linked last night’s mass shooting in Las Vegas to a disrespect for President Trump, the national anthem and God.

“Violence in the streets, ladies and gentlemen. Why is it happening?” he asked. “The fact that we have disrespect for authority; there is profound disrespect for our president, all across this nation they say terrible things about him. It’s in the news, it’s in other places.

“There is disrespect now for our national anthem, disrespect for our veterans, disrespect for the institutions of our government, disrespect for the court system. All the way up and down the line, disrespect.”

  • Todd Allis

C’mon, Pat, No one is disrespecting the country and constitution as much as the dominionists.

    • Waarki

      “dominionists” …iow, ‘enablers’

      • Macbill

No. It means “Christian Sharia Rule”

  • Mike C

See, what people talk about “not politicizing” a tragedy this is what they should be talking about. Asking the government to protect it’s citizens by outlawing private ownership of war guns is not.

    • GanymedeRenard

And folks like Robertson are also ‘religionizing’ it.

  • GanymedeRenard

Quick, quick! Let’s find the sarcophagus!

  • paganguy

Here’s a thought: how about we just blame it on an angry man who found it waaaaay too easy to accumulate an arsenal of weapons and a government bribed by a gun industry into looking the other way?

    • Lizard

Nah. NRA no likey that narrative, and we have to keep the NRA happy!

    • AdamTh

As Dan Savage commented, maybe someday we will “pry Congress from the cold, dead hands of the NRA”

      • TampaDink

All of the money that they give congress critters is like super glue.

      • TrueWords

Since 1998, the National Rifle Association has donated $3,781,803 to current members of Congress. Explore below to see how much money has been donated to members of Congress in your state.

        https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/national/nra-donations/

        • John30013

In the scheme of these things that doesn’t actually seem like a lot of money. Congresscritters are a cheap lot, apparently.

          • TrueWords

            Yes they are cheap..

            From Jim Jefferies:

“I’ve had people come up to me in my face and scream at me in car parks, as I’m leaving the theater, going, ‘You can not change the Second Amendment!’ And I’m like, yes you can. It’s called an amendment. Right. If you can’t change something that’s called an amendment… See, many of you need a thesaurus more than you need a constitution. If you don’t know what a thesaurus is, get a dictionary, work your way forward.

Don’t think your constitution is set in stone. You’ve changed things before. You used to have prohibition in there. Right? And then people were like ‘Hey who likes getting fucked up? I like getting fucked up too. Let’s get that one out. Let’s get that one out.’ You used to have this other thing in America called, uh, SLAVERY!”

          • popebuck1

Don’t remind them about slavery. A lot of them are still bitter about that one too.

Thanks. i shared this info in a post on my NRA recipient congressman’s Facebook page. I put it in the thread in which he calls for prayers.

        • DaveMiller135

That is embarrassingly little money, for the influence the have obtained.

        • wds

Actually, you’re numbers are a little low … SMH … shame on these “whores” to the NRA
          https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/congress/nra-has-spent-millions-senators-opposing-gun-regulations-n592386

          • TrueWords

            Your numbers make more sense…

The National Rifle Association has spent a total of $37 million in support of the 54 U.S. senators who voted last December against an amendment prohibiting those on the terrorist watch list from purchasing firearms, according to an analysis of data from the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics.

Of the 54 senators, all but one were Republicans – the exception being Sen. Heidi Heitkamp, D-N.D.

The biggest recipients over their careers are Sens. John McCain, R-Ariz., (at $7.7 million); Thom Tillis, R-N.C. ($4.4 million); and Cory Gardner, R-Colo., ($3.9 million)

And the NRA has spent a total of $27 million in support of the 50 senators – all Republicans, plus Heitkamp– who voted against an amendment last December requiring universal background checks for gun purchases (though McCain voted for the amendment).

    • Halou

Shooter was found to have ten guns in his hotel room, not even mentioning the ones he expended during his rampage. If nothing else there should be a limit on the number of guns any one person can own. And for fucksake have background checks on the buyers.

Also, story is one of the guns was illegal, so somebody out there isn’t diligently assessing their own stocks and sales. Regulate the suppliers.

      • The 2nd Amendment supposedly guarantees the right to keep and bear arms. (We’re not allowed to mention the ‘well-regulated militia’ part anymore, apparently.)

It says nothing about not being allowed to regulate bullets.

Anyway, yeah, whoever sold this terrorist the automatic weapon or the means to convert it from semi- to full needs to be charged as an accessory to mass murder.

        • Publius

Like Ikea should be charged for selling forks that lead to obesity?

People quibbling over details like this are quite clearly losing the battle. There is something more profound than regulating ammunition and modifications that needs to happen. Societal decay and the breakdown of communities, in part, facilitates environments that makes shootings like these flourish.

          • The_Wretched

oh, it’s you! Let me make it easy for you.

Right wing hate + super easy gun access for everyone = mass shootings.

Places without either part of the equation don’t have mass shootings. Americans are humans like anyone else; clearly the legal regime for regulating Right wing hate and gun access is making the difference. Austrialia works (no guns) Sweden works (access oversight).

          • Publius

If you think there is no right-wing hate in Australia or Scandinavia, then you’re much too sheltered.

And right wing hate is the breakdown of communities. You have responded to me just for the sake of responding, not realizing you half agree with me.

          • The_Wretched
          • Publius

You just agreed with me. Why are you badgering me?

Do you disagree that breakdown of communities has led to this? Where have I given an indication that right-wing hate isn’t a breakdown?

I was merely implying that seeking regulations like the OP was describing is futile. Mass shooters have mowed down gay people, country music concert-goers, children, troops, and the like, and nothing has come of gun control. The one thing that everyone has some sort of control of is how we address decay and the breakdown of communities. You can go ahead and jockey for reforms that will never happen, but don’t pretend that what you’re doing is noble and productive.

          • The_Wretched

I flatly disagree with your pessimism that gun control laws fail.

          • JackFknTwist

Eh, “The Wretched” was writing about guns and the availability thereof in the USA.
Your “societal decay” and ” breakdown of communities” is due to discrimination against many sections of society, discrimination in schools & education, obvious hate and discrimination by police against black people, religious bigotry against gays in particular, even manifest second class treatment of Spanish culture people in the islands, called by Trump/turd ” not traditional Americans and also caused by Trump/turd’s unleashing of bigotry, bad manners, fascism and right wing thugs….who now think they can say and do what they want.
And the aggressive combative manipulative deviancy of the NRA have massively contributed, caused, the fracture in society of which you complain without analysing the causes thereof.

          • Publius

“Your “societal decay” and ” breakdown of communities” is due to discrimination against many sections of society, discrimination in schools & education, obvious hate and discrimination by police against black people, religious bigotry against gays in particular, even manifest second class treatment of Spanish culture people in the islands, called by Trump/turd ” not traditional Americans and also caused by Trump/turd’s unleashing of bigotry, bad manners, fascism and right wing thugs….who now think they can say and do what they want.”

You’re preaching to the choir. Why does that part of your comment exist? You and I completely agree that that’s what the terms mean, and I’m saying they are the cause of this violence. Look, I know there’s a tendency for a knee-jerk reaction when someone makes a comment that, on first glance, is vaguely disagreeable to yours, but it’s always best to look into it. We agree with eachother. We need less of the shittiness you described.

          • JackFknTwist

Because you complain about the beak-up of communities without attributing the blame for that to the bigotry and discrimination being leveled against such communities !

          • Publius

I just did. Read my response. What else did I leave out? Your response and follow-ups are completely unwarranted.

          • JackFknTwist

There’s no point whatever in stating the obvious, that “communities are breaking up”.it’s the reasons for disintegration that’s of importance.
The causes are racism. bigotry, discrimination and religious self righteous bigotry, and particularly the fascists in the USA.

          • JackFknTwist

We need less of the “shittiness” of the right wing bigots who are now running rampant in the USA. ……and they have guns ! the only society which has that cancer at its heart…..and seems proud of it !

        • -M-

It also doesn’t say the unhinged must be able to buy an assault rifle in 30 minutes or less. The gun sellers’ lobby is insane, there’s a difference between a right to bear arms and no standards whatsoever.

      • jerry

A good first step would be limiting the number of rounds that a gun can fire without reloading…renewing the Assault Weapons Ban.

    • Steverino

The principle of Occam’s Razor is strong in you. In the likes of Pat Robertson, it is totally absent.

    • GanymedeRenard

I fret it’s already too late.

    • Uncle Mark

Could we re-label some of these churches as mental institutions and lock ’em all in on Sundays?

    • Won’t matter. Donald canceled the Obama-era rule which tried to keep guns out of the hands of crazy people.

  • Halou

What was he doing between 2009 and 2016? Because he certainly wasn’t respecting the president. I guess that makes him personally liable for any mass shootings in that time.

  • Lizard

*counts on fingers* Soooo so far we have Daubenmire blaming it on “wickedness,” Jones blaming it on Democrats, Duke blaming it on Hollywood Jews, and now Robertson blaming it on recent anthem-themed protests.

If this keeps up I’m going to run out of fingers and toes for all the excuses.

    • juanjo54

Well actually, Jones referred to the “The literal grandchildren of the folks that financed the Bolshevik Revolution out of New York and London”. Last I checked, that was anti-Semite speak for Jew.

        • Kissmagrits

Another example is the infamous McDonald’s french fries placed under a bell jar….and they looked exactly the same after one year.

Profound disrespect for our president? They say terrible things about him?
    Hello?

    • Silver Badger

So the Obama years were respectful?

      • MikeBx2

        exactly!

      • Daniel E. Duclo

It’s a black and white issue.

  • Bad Tom

Pat Robertson can find an angle favorable to HIM in any tragedy!

  • Silver Badger

Mr. Robertson’s obituary will be enjoyable reading.

  • Die already, you evil motherfucker.

  • billbear1961

This could explain why the GOP wants to pass laws to make silencers and bullets that can pierce body armour legal, why they’ve made it easy for any lunatic to buy a gun–the right WANTS chaos so Trump can declare martial law and install the dictatorship–the POLICE state–the far-right DREAMS of.

    Then, the roundups can begin.

    FUCK these evil BASTARDS!!

  • Talisman

Or, you know, we could blame the insane old guy with a gun.

And a culture that worships guns & violence.

    • canoebum

Any excuse is acceptable as long as it diverts attention from corrupt politicians, mostly Republicans, taking big money from the NRA to prevent the enactment of sensible gun laws. Really, has the time come yet for the victims of gun violence and supporters of common sense to march on the NRA Headquarters in Alexandria and burn it to the ground? What more will it take to place the blame where it belongs?

      • Beagle

Um, the NRA HQ is actually in Fairfax. (And easy to get to by car from I-66.) For a while, my therapist’s office was almost literally a stone’s throw from that building.
Just please spare my Centreville neighborhood.

        • canoebum

Ok, consider it done. For some reason, I thought it was in Alexandria. So we march on Fairfax.

  • The_Wretched

Quite the parade of RWNJs today with NO BASIS other than personal hate and BS for their assertions. These are the assholes saying that LGBTQ+ are immoral? I’ll bet $$ that gay orgs are not parading bs based on this shooting.

  • liondon#iamnotatraitor

Jesus would be proud to call him as one of his followers… in keeping with the annihilation of indigenous cultures and people from a variety of areas of the world all in Jesus’ name…AMEN!

  • Pat hasn’t been the same since his attempt to cast out demons of hemorrhoids backfired. He told afflicted viewers to put their hands up to their tv screens, and he shouted, “Demons of hemorrhoids, I CAST YOU OUT!!” But something went wrong, and instead he took upon himself all the hemorrhoids of the world. And he’s been an enormous pain in the ass ever since.

  • Nic Peterson

    Adding: Booga!

  • ByronK

I just had the most wonderful vision of Pat drowning with his head in a bucket of Bakker’s goop.

    • Daniel E. Duclo

That is going to be my new happy place image.

  • kareemachan

Well, I’m SO glad he knows the reality of life…

  • M Jackson

I think inside he’s really Pennywhistle.

  • ultragreen

Oh well, all societies go through these transition periods. They are unavoidable.

  • kareemachan

I have disrespective of this dipshit.

  • John Calendo

Such a holy man. But the disrespect for Obama was okay because, well, he wasn’t really a President. Clearly, the Las Vegas shooter was teaching America a moral lesson when he gunned down concert goers from his hotel window. We must repent of all this Russia Fake News™ and Trump graft Fake News™ and diabolical Country Music. Mysterious are His loving ways.

  • netxtown

Nope. No can do today. I don’t care much for regurgitation – whether it’s from a bit of my own lunch or some dumb ass spewing his holy hate.

And they wonder what causes folks to ‘snap’……

  • Vira

    Giddy-up!

  • Karl Dubhe

Why wasn’t he at that concert?

  • DaveMiller135

You know, Pat, you might be right. I am certainly feeling a high level of disrespect for a certain kind of leader.

  • xzargo

Fuck you with the Devil’s dick, Pat Robertson.

  • Frank Conway

Pat- please go to heaven right now. Your imaginary heavenly father is calling you home. I swear!

  • Ninja0980

Go fall off a horse again Pat.

  • dcurlee

Can this nut meet his maker soon. Satan

  • Daniel E. Duclo

then get ready for some more mass shootings because I have no more respect for Tramp than before.

  • TheManicMechanic

All these shootings and guns, and no one shoots Pat. The world isn’t a fair place.

  • JackFknTwist

Why oh why was this little malicious toad not at the concert ?

  • JCF
  • Puck

Just for pat’s sake, I blame his god for allowing this to happen. If his god is sooooo weak he has to have men do his dirty work he is a sad one. I mean back in the good ole days god would just smite them or drown them or kill them while they slept like a coward. Poor ole pat, he will be going to a better place soon! Come yeller!

    • Offhand, given the illustrations of the “Christian” god’s proclivities in their Bible, I’d say his god is getting a kick out of it all.

  • Greg Dresh

I don’t buy such simplistic explanations but for the moment I will take the bait. So question 2 might be why the disrespect? I submit we have institionalized bigotry, we have funneled wealth to the top 2 percent. Religion has become a business from which you among many others have harvested enormous profit. Politicians do little besides run for office and sow division. We kick poor – aged, children, disabled to the curb to cut taxes for the 2 percent. We are constantly in or going to war. Police officers get paid leave when they strangle people of color to death on national television or shoot them in the back. So I would ask – is it surprising that there is disrespect for those who support and salivate their jingoistic palaver ( yes I am talking to you Pat) in the face of such mendacity? I feel disgust. My forefathers got here before there was a United States. One was in the revolutionary army. One died for the union at cold harbor. One landed at Iwo Jima. My father flew bombers in Ww 2. An Uncle was a flag infantry officer. You and your rhetoric dishonor them – not those who protest such loathsome circumstance.

  • BudClark

Pat Robertson: consume my excrement and EXPIRE. Quickly.

  • Perry Bohanon

when is this old fuck going to die? the world could use one less scamvangelist

  • leastyebejudged

Oh, the party I am having at my house when this pig dies.

  • rednekokie

This walking zombie has no idea that authority went out the window back in January, when the tRumpelthinskin moved into the White (trash) house.

  • Danieruw

    Kaiju desune!

  • ted-

Why doesn’t he just die already?!

  • Dale Snyder

Heaven forbid if a christian disrespects a pussy-grabbing sexual predator.

  • Grumpy Old Man

Guns don’t kill people, disrespect for our national anthem, disrespect for our veterans,
disrespect for the institutions of our government, disrespect for the
    court system kills people. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/52fa218a3d128f4048356364d66055d7c819a23f827306d81d2f83a65c7cd700.gif

  • OK — I figure Alex Jones does it deliberately because he’s a cynical bastard.

    Pat Robertson’s just senile.

  • Rita Perry – LaChance

Preach it Mr Roberts. You are so right the lack of Respect for Authority there is a huge mess.

  • Mark Hahn

Respect is earned. How’s that for a proverb?
