Trump Attacks Puerto Rican “Ingrates”

The New York Daily News reports:

President Trump woke up Sunday still fuming about criticism of his Puerto Rico recovery management, firing off another series of tweets attacking naysayers and patting his administration on the back.

Trump has spent the weekend complaining on Twitter about the widespread criticism that his administration has been slow to help people in Puerto Rico suffering from the wreckage of Hurricane Maria, which killed at least 16 people in the U.S. territory.

In a Saturday tweetstorm, Trump said San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz, one of his most vocal critics, had been “told by the Democrats that you must be nasty to Trump.”

  • Treant

You know what? Angry and annoyed (and paying attention) is what he wants. The little narcissistic psycho.

Forget it. This is just what he does and what he is, a complete ass.

Excuse me, I realized I forgot a lavender-eucalyptus soap for a friend of mine and I have one loaf mold remaining that’s not currently in use.

Easy Trent, this is not facebook.

      • Treant

As of last night, my husband posted a furious Fecesbook rant enjoining any remaining Trump supporters should rim him and then unfriend him.

        It got one like. Mine.

        • Rimming? Now you’ve got my attention!

          • Treant

In your case, I’m sure you could rim him and remain his friend since you hate Trump.

          • Well, “hate” is a big word. I’m not willing to spend that kind of emotional energy, especially on trumP.

    • greenmanTN

Years ago in Houston, the day after Easter I was at work and a co-worker had given everyone egg-shaped soap, left them on our desks. Mine was sort of a medium brown color and didn’t have much a scent. I walked into the main part of workplace and asked who had given us the soaps and a co-worker said she had. I turned it around so she see my teeth-marks scraping down the side. “I thought it was a chocolate Easter egg.” Everyone thought that was hilarious, while I was spitting soap taste out of my mouth for the next hour!

      • Treant

Love it! I did rubber-ducky shaped soap (in yellow, of course!) for my cousin’s baby shower. Those were incredibly popular.

I grew up in MN, a few years ago, when cleaning out my mom’s house, I found a grade-school Minnesota history book (5th grade maybe?). You wouldn’t believe the things they called the native Americans. Yikes. With this president, it won’t be long before that all happens again, because he’s not “politically correct”. I hate this man. Hate.

EDIT to clarify that it was a Minnesota history book.

        • Adam King

I’ve been alive for decades and I’ve never hated any of my contemporaries the way I hate trump. The worst things I can imagine happening to him give me nothing but joy. I’ve learned something new about the level of contempt I’m capable of feeling for a single individual.

          • Chicago joe

Super ditto. When I begin to think how much I hated bush and raygun it was mostly politics; I recognized they cared, in their way, to a smallish degree about the country and the world. I cannot say I see that in trump….

I understood shrub not to be the brightest guy, but trump….what a f’ing dullard with no care about history other than his own (made up).

To be fair to Trump about today (there are so few opportunities to be fair that are favorable to Trump), this was the last day of the President’s Cup, and he showed up a couple of hours early to be there to hand out the trophy. And that is the most favorable thing I have thought, written, or said about Donald Trump in at least the last two years, and probably much longer.

  • AndyinChicago

This is clearly disgusting, but I’m not the most angry at Trump. How could any “Good Christian” support this kind of bullshit? Where’s their “Love thy neighbor?” Where’s their “Blessed are the those who hunger and thirst for righteousness”? Where’s their goddamned compassion? How can anyone say they follow Jesus and follow Trump. (I’m equally pissed at any religious person following Trump, but there’s a lot fewer Buddhists for Trump out there).

    • Joe in PA

I said all that before the election…I thought it would be fun to watch their heads explode. They didn’t. They voted for him. Sigh.

    • SoCalGal20

The “good Christians” you refer to (loving thy neighbor, taking care of the poor and less fortunate, having compassion, etc) are good PEOPLE. The people who voted for Trump are not “good Christians” of the type you speak of. They are awful people who use their bullshit religion as an excuse to be awful.

It’s all in the Bibble, you know.

    • Grimes

Because god helps those that help themselves

    • CottonBlimp

Because the core value of Christianity and, really, any religion, is not compassion, charity, forgiveness or anything like that. The core value of all religions is faith, which is believing stupid shit no matter what.

That is why Trump and Christianity are so intertwined. It doesn’t matter how much the Trump supporter might believe in kindness or fidelity or anything else. They have faith in Trump, which means they know Trump is a good person no matter how evil a sack of shit he’s proven to be, just like they know that God exists no matter much that’s proven to be stupid nonsense.

I’m pretty sure he got that from Bossert’s bullshit memo. Has urban search and rescue ACTUALLY covered 100% of the island? I don’t believe it. And they’ve only searched a few thousand structures.

In Puerto Rico, urban search and rescue teams have covered 100% of the island, searched more than 2,600 structures, saved or assisted more than 840 individuals, and are continuing efforts.

And hey everybody, ONE hospital in PR is fully functional (but is it really?)!

59 hospitals are partially operational, either caring for the patients they have, or receiving patients. One hospital is fully operational.

Trump has made clear from Day One he considered Puerto Rico not worthy of real help because of their debt. Ignoring the immediate personal hypocrisy in that, it might be worth reminding them that many of the red states carry a net negative in terms of how much money they take from the country versus how much money they generate. I hesitate to bring this up though, because Republicans might just be OK with letting those states slide further into poverty, even though they vote Republican.

Small pet peeve: nouns are always capitalized in German. It’s not done so above. It shows the centrality of the noun, often different than the moving position of the verb. Like with the English I, it draws the attention to the pronoun for the self, unlike a great amount of languages. Hence, the noun for president and the title of President are both capitalized.

But in this case and in regard for Trump, its current status is perfect.

Ingrate = distraction from my golf game.

    • kaydenpat

And Brown people having the nerve to criticize me. How dare they?!!

  • Skeptical_Inquirer

    1. All the GOP politicians should be asked if they agree with him.
    2. All fundajelical leaders should be asked if they agree with him.
    3. Clips should be used in any place where they might actually work.

  • Go fucking die in a fire.

  • EdA

Vladimir Putin must be laughing his head off and getting tired of winning. He certainly has been getting his money’s worth.

    • -M-

Everything but the removal of sanctions.

      • EdA

OK. I’ll certainly grant you that, and it’s a biggie — but it also certainly isn’t the result of lack of effort by Putin’s Playthings.

        • -M-

I wasn’t disagreeing. The financial and economic penalties look like the only fly in the ointment for Vlad.

Geopolitically he’s won enormously. EU and NATO weakened, global stability and respect for civil rights and democracy undermined, U.S. largely sidelined and still under economic and political attack from the Republicans, the Trump cabal, and assorted varieties of deplorables.

  • Piernudo15

In case someone hasn’t posted this: Geraldo Rivera telling San Juan mayor he sees no people dying around her. What a douche!!

    https://www.rawstory.com/2017/10/i-dont-see-people-dying-foxs-geraldo-rivera-scoffs-in-the-face-of-san-juan-mayor-to-back-up-trump/

    • Alexander Stallwitz

Rivera is toeing the company line of his paymasters (Fox News) who are all in for Trump.

      • KarenAtFOH

Major media seems to do nothing but lick trump’s boots.

        • Alexander Stallwitz

I am conviced that Trump wouldnt be president or even won the Primary without the media. Had the MSM media ignored Trump and or refused to cover him, he would have been at the Kiddie Table debates. Instead they choose ratings over their civil duty and let him suck up hours and hours of free publciy and helped him win. They are just as guilty as the assholes and dumbasses who voted for him.

          • I feel they are guiltier than the voters. Why? Because of how many people mindlessly get their news from tv, who aren’t interested in true debate and breaking down political stories.

Elderly people voted for him in droves, and no it wasn’t about racism for most of them, it was how they had to keep working at ages up to 72 and beyond, yet still couldn’t really make ends meet. They saw a business man and thought well maybe someone with a business background could help us.

          • Friday

Honestly a lot of those elders got their share just fine: they just hear horrid news about the economy and see the next generations not going so well since they just don’t know how different economic reality’s been for younger generations since REagan had his way over things. I mean *I* grew up thiking it was possible to work my way through college, …this was quickly made impossible by Republicans and the REagan/Bush recession and it never got any better. I should have realized all those bank loan promotional tables around all the time were going to be an issue.

    • M Jackson

Thanks for warning me, I’ll pass.
I had hoped when I woke up this morning that it would be better but it isn’t.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

Nobody should be friends with anybody morals shitty enough to work for Faux News.

  • Karl Dubhe

It’s almost like he’s inciting violence, isn’t it? No, there’s no almost about that, is there?

  • Natty Enquirer

    Same old Trump.

  • billbear1961

    Fuck you, you national DISGRACE!

Prison or exile for you, you miserable, evil SHIT!!

  • BobSF_94117

The most disgusting thing about this is that it had to be planned. Why else would the WH make such a point of publicly, ridiculously, patting itself on the back for a “fantastic job” when they had barely begun, a full week late? They knew people would react with indignation. Then they would pretend the criticism was directed at FEMA and at the military.

    There are no words.

    • David Walker

You are probably right, but the other night Rachel made a case for the whole NFL fracas being a planned campaign and that the disaster facing Puerto Rico overshadowed it. Her case seemed quite believable.

  • Dagoril

Well you win, Drumpf. You are the bigliest. Piece of fucking shit, that is.

  • TrollopeReader

This must be * I * week on Sesame Street in the White House schoolroom … we’ve learned all about Islands in the Big Ocean in geography class, and now we get to spend the day making sentences with the word Ingrate. Can we use Imbecile, too?? Idiot? Intemperate?

    • kanehau

      Impeach.

  • DaMoldBrok

H-O-L-Y S-H-I-T! ! ! ! ! The stupidity is great, amongst the Rethuglicans! Faux Nauseum (had to see what line of BS they were spewing about PR) just had the Puerto Rican Rep., the one with the R after her name (Colon, is literally, her last name, that’s another long line of tacky statements that we all could get started on) was complaining that the media was slow getting to the island to start covering the devastation. Well duh, a Cat 5 to 4 hurricane just ground up the whole place, would be kind of dumb pilling on a plane and trying to land there, without making sure there was a runway! Trees, mangled cars, home / building leavings, ect and airplanes traveling at 150 – 180 mph do not play well together!!! Stupid bitch!
She was complaining that the “Fake News” was saying that the help, be it FEMA, Nat. Guard, Military was inadequate. The ones that are there, are trying, but that Orangutan that’s flinging feces in OUR White House, doesn’t have fucking clue what he is doing, what needs to happen, how to place someone in charge on the ground, when they need to get them there, letting them know what they have to work with, what they are allowed to call for (personally, whatever they want). I give up, would that lard ass, loud mouth, lying, xenophobic, misogynistic, racist just die already!

    • David Walker

The fake news people, for the most part, got there before or with the first mainland government people. Honestly, I’m waiting for the Alex Joneses out there to start screaming that this is all made up, that the destruction is computer generated and projected on a green screen while the reporter gives her/his story. The alleged victims are paid actors. No one has died… that’s just more fake news. The pictures of Mayor Cruz wading through water helping the people…again, Hollywood. The actress was wading in the indoor tank Esther Williams used. Mayor Cruz’s hateful speech is written by some pinko commie socialist writers. It’s all a conspiracy to undermine 45’s rightful place in the world, as Chief Don’t Givva Fuck.

  • JT

Shut the fuck up, you sorry excuse for a human being!

  • JAKvirginia

Trump is trump. But the WaPo?

Front page today: Big photo of a devastated area on Barbuda. Headline? “Should they go back?” Excuse me? Subhead says “Barbuda is a wasteland. Dominica is devastated. Puerto Rico has no power.” OH! Well then! Yes… tell them they can’t return to their home. While you’re at it, why don’t you tell Houston that, too! What a truly asshole article.

  • Mow

What is happening to my home country is nothing short of ethnic cleansing. I sincerely hope the press and public opinion piles on to this excuse of a human being. As Mr. Miranda said.. vete para el carajo.

  • Richard B

45 is the worst most incompetent wannabe ever to step foot in the White House.
    GOP=CANNOT GOVERN

  • Nychta

Last night I watched a John Oliver piece about the history and mechanics of PR’s staggering debt. He presented it over a year ago, but it’s still timely. And there’s an appearance by Lin-Manuel Miranda, too!

    Trump Attacks Puerto Rican “Ingrates”
Rich relations may give you a crust of bread and such,
You can help yourself, but don’t take too much . . .

  • Christ. What an evil cancer.

  • Friday

Typical Trump, big lying talk while cheaping out, delaying, doing a half-ass job, then attacking anyone who complains how he’s such a scammer and deadbeat.

    • LesbianTippingHabits

The best lawsuits against Trump re unpaid bills were filed by lawyers he stiffed after they defended him against other lawsuits alleging unpaid bills.

  • AdamTh

Donnie, just go comb your hair – it looks horrible…

    • Gianni

I make fun of him continuously about that mess on his head. I’d like to see it after he gets caught in a Cat 5 hurricane with hundreds of pics scattered around the news, online, in magazine articles.

      • NowAnAgnostic

He must buy his AquaNet by the case.

    • LesbianTippingHabits

He really should update his Twitter photo. Same one since 2009. Sad!

      • William

        Bigly!

  • Jmdintpa

    Isn’t trump dead yet

    • TampaDink

Yes….but only from the neck up.

  • Paula

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Trump start a campaign to give PR its independence from the U.S.
then they don’t have to pay for anything. He could revoke all citizenship’s and deport all
Puerto Rican people in the U.S. I shouldn’t say this and give him any ideas.

  • TampaDink

Please call them ingrates & use every other vile & racist insults towards the millions of Americans who live in P.R…..when you visit them. Just do it you stupid piece of human garbage.

    • Claude Jacques Bonhomme

His visit to PR will be a photo op surrounded by soldiers and sycophants. He won’t see the real suffering and misery.

      • Gianni

Security had better be doubled or tripled. These are a Latin people and I know from my own background that with us, our nature automatically dictates that the emotions are the first thing to fly out at anyone who has attacked, insulted, or demeaned us any way. Not always the best way to handle situations, for sure.

      • TampaDink

Of course he won’t step off of the airport tarmac, unless it is to tour the “command center” of the “relief effort”.

  • Claude Jacques Bonhomme

Once more, the twit in chief has taken the Cl out of Class.

  • TheManicMechanic

Oh to be able to turn loose a water cannon on the orange menace…

  • Willys41

Really tired of hearing about the “amazing” this and the “incredible” that, especially from a man who doesn’t know the first thing about what he’s babbling about.

    • Ann Kah

Of course he knows. He is babbling about himself, as usual. I’m sure the words “amazing” and “incredible” flow through his mind every night when he goes to bed, having first made sure his phone is fully charged in case he has an idea to tweet at 3 a.m.

      • kareemachan

No, he doesn’t bother to know what he’s babbling about. Why should he bother?

  • Once again, Donald denies autonomy to people of color, insisting it must have been someone else who told them they had to be “nasty” towards him.

Why he would even suggest this is bizarre and irrational. The Dems have no control over Cruz, and moreover she’d have no reason to assent to a fictitious partisan position requirement like this.

What people are “starting to recognize” is that Donald’s response to Maria, as directly contrasted to how he (eventually) acted for Harvey and Irma, was motivated primarily by racism.

This claim here in this thread needs corroboration, but it rings true and based on what did happen, seems awfully likely:

Donnie is relishing this because he has done his distraction thing and gotten Russia out of the headlines. I just can’t figure how he believes that somehow that will make the investigations go away. It is appalling to realize that we have a President who has no reservations about attacking his own citizens as if that makes him look masterful, dignified, and presidential. Everything is personal to him. Immature to the max.

  • Gunga_Dean

    ITMFA

    • kareemachan

      Yup.

  • Johnny Wyeknot

This comes from the draft dodger who attacked a gold star family.

  • Ann Kah

Trump, if he didn’t have such a tin ear for the way he sounds to others, would have taken the advice of others – I’m sure it was offered! – and would have backtracked and said conciliatory-but-ultimately-meaningless things to try to smooth over each diplomatic faux pas. That he does not do so illustrates to me that he CANNOT. He is unable to control his words and his temper (and his ego). The man is sliding into senility rapidly.

  • William

Could Puerto Rico declare independence and seek another nation to be aligned with? It might get interesting when Raoul Castro in Cuba kicks the bucket.

    • kareemachan

I would have no problem with that (assuming the PR’ers don’t) only except for the sonic crap going on. But if Russia is doing it, I still have no problem with that. And no problem with kicking Putin’s ass to boot.
