VIRAL VIDEO: Cursing Trump Fan Goes Hulk Hogan In Failed Attempt To Burn Her Pittsburgh Steelers Gear

Death & Taxes reports:

I honestly don’t know what my favorite part of this WorldStar video where an angry Trump supporter tries and fails to burn her NFL gear is. It’s a rich, comedic tapestry. At first, I thought it might have been the part where she talks about being a Steelers fan in Maryland as if that’s a persecuted class.

Then I considered the part in the beginning where she made it a point to inform the viewer that she didn’t rehearse the speech where she bitches out Pittsburgh Steelers coach Mike Tomlin for supporting his team’s staying in the locker room during the anthem.

Of course, it would do this video a great disservice not to mention the part where the lady does a Hulk Hogan impression and tears off her Steelers shirt with dramatic flair — only to reveal a Trump tee underneath.

For me, the best part is how none of her gear would actually catch on fire. So she gives up with a final “Go to hell!” One wonders why she decided to upload such an embarrassing fail.

Well, that ended up well! She’s a freaking idiot. So those colored people don’t have the right to peacefully assemble and petition the government to redress grievances. Lady, the fucking First Amendment applies to them as much as you do, idiot!

Meanwhile, he’s at his golf resort again this weekend, golfing and probably getting set for a weekend of rage-tweeting.

    • Kruhn

He doesn’t want to get “his beautiful Army” dirty in that Puerto Rican mud. /s

    • Tawreos

He’ll make sure to do something to distract from the US citizens he his killing in Puerto Rico through his inaction.

      • Max_1

Like I said the other day… He needs to attend the funerals of the Americans he’s letting die… Truly a blood on hands moment.

        Act 5, Scene 1
Out damn spot, out I say!

        • Danieruw

I’m pretty sure he’s golfing whenever those funerals are scheduled.

        • Tawreos

That would require humility and the ability to think of others, so it won’t happen

    • Max_1

The ocean is big. Bigly big. And wet. The ocean is wet and bigly big. Tremendously wet. And besides, PR is surrounded by a lot of wet water.

      • Nowhereman

        It’t an Island! Who knew!

    • Cuberly

I know it’s a long shot but I honestly think he’s being so oddly reticent because his PR resort went belly up. Both he and Eric blamed the PR government for the bankruptcy.

Odd, because once the trumps were out of the picture the resort was beginning to turn around.

He balks at any perceived failure and holds grudges for decades. He doesn’t let anything go & frequently ignores potential consequences. It just fits his weird pattern.

But of course this is shaping up to be his worst failure yet.

      • I think it’s actually because it’s Puerto Rico and most of the Americans who live there are brown and speak Spanish as their 1st language.

        Also, they voted for Clinton.

        • Cuberly

Yeah, lil Rubio won the GOP primary there…..

        • Nowhereman

Well, it’s backfiring. It sounds like a lot of them are moving to the mainland permanently. And I don’t think they will be voting for Trump or his adoptive party.

      • Gerry Fisher

Normally, I’d dismiss an idea like this based on knowing that most people aren’t that petty or dedicated to their pettiness over the long haul. In this case, I think you’re right. Everything–EVERYTHING–is filtered through his personal history and how much these people benefit him or sing his praises.

A handful of Executive Branch people misused travel funds. But only Tom Price’s scandal interrupted Cheetolini’s attempt to grab the spotlight for his tax “plan.” Bye, bye, Price.

        • Cuberly

FEMA and the Govs of FL and TX were mobilized very early on. Trump was on TV constantly trumpeting how awesome his admin was at assisting local officials. He basically turned those efforts into rallies.

He was getting a lot of positive press too.

The only way I can rationalize how vile he’s been acting is that he feels slighted, now he’s taking his ire out on the Mayor of San Juan. A woman…..surprise…..

    • Jefe5084

      Beyond hideous.

    • Bluto

You’re either psychic or know gropenfuhrer’s predictability. He’s tweeting this am about how the nasty mayor of San Juan is being unfair to his greatness & that Puerto Ricans are ungrateful, lazy SOBS.

“Yes but the only power she has is to be able to vote.”

Assuming that she can actually manage to find her designated polling place, which is a BIG assumption.

      • Todd20036

Looks like it would take her 3 years before lack of food became a problem for her.

  • royinhell

..while her beloved US flag trails through the dirt. .

    • chaateater

It’s improper flag management. So, the flag itself should have been burnt next, after proper folding and a salute. Irony. The players are celebrating the flag and she’s disgracing it.

      • Lizard

That misconception is a minor misreading of the flag code. A flag that’s touched the ground can be washed and redisplayed. What you shouldn’t do is fix the flag so it’s constantly touching the ground. When a flag is so worn that it can’t be displayed, that’s when you fold it and burn it.

        • David Walker

One is also allowed to burn the flag when you’re pissed the fuck off at the direction the country’s turned. Like taking a knee, burning the flag is protected speech.

          • Lizard

Oh, absolutely. I’m not arguing with that. It’s just the misconception that any flag that’s touched the ground automatically has to be burned. That’s not really what the flag code says.

        • chaateater

I get what you are saying, etiquette-wise. But, a flag in those hands is not in good hands. It probably has holes in it from her bile, if not her utter failure at flag handling and display. But I am glad she is feeling her First Amendment rights.

At the supermarket I patronize they’re real good at getting on the public address system and doing whatever they can to embarrass the hell out of people who park in the handicap spaces and don’t have handicap stickers or rear-view mirror cards. Recently I enjoyed hearing, “Will the person who drives the new blue BMW 530i sedan parked in the handicap parking with the Utah license plate 958NUS and does not have a handicap permit please move your car in the next five minutes? Otherwise your expensive luxury import will be towed. Minute one . . . minute two . . . minute three . . .” etc. until the five minutes were up. The shiny new car was then towed. It happens all of the time and I approve 110%. 🙂

      • 2guysnamedjoe

A live feed of the towing shown on all screens in the electronics department would be wonderful.

        • Nowhereman

That’s a good policy. Our mall has a big problem with freaking taxi cabs parking in the fire lane, no matter how bright red the curb is painted or how many signs they put up.

      • Ninja0980

The area downtown where my hubby works doesn’t mess around.
If you don’t have the sticker or rear view mirror card, your car is ticketed and towed before you can blink.

        • sach2

I’m all for walking because I can and am grateful for this ability.

          BUT…

My Mom was in a wheelchair for 25 years and didn’t like going to the doctors (where “stickers” are renewed–so expired sticker). I parked in a handicapped spot while my mom was having her hair doo’d, Walking to the bank and grocery store to kill time. While walking out of one store, I met a cop who was writing me a ticket. I explained the situation but he was truly a jerk. I didn’t park in that spot to save me any steps but because it was the safest spot to get my mother to the curb and into her hairdressers. He told me to “Tell it to the judge!”. Eventually, he backed down. But until the cops decide to “not mess around” with people; they might want to actually admit they are human and do the best they can rather than be a jerk and shoot people before thinking about and evaluating a situation to decide if an arrest or seizure of a vehicle is necessary.

          Sorry for the ran.

          • melllt

What? The safest way to get your mother to the curb would be to drop your mother at the curb, or borrow the handicapped spot for a few minutes, wheel your mom in, and then move your car so people that didn’t have their children with them could park closer.
The cop wasn’t messing with you, he was giving you a ticket for, oh, wait, you must be trolling. God job.

          • sach2

It was 10a.m. on a weekday. The lot was virtually empty with plenty of handicapped spots. It was a 30 minute haircut and I was walking around the lot doing errands. I’ve had a valid handicapped sticker for at least 15 years and never once used it when my mother was not in the car. This sticker just happened to be expired.

Both replies to my post agree the cop was correct to be rude. Perhaps I was in the wrong but I am still loathe to say so.

          • TominDC

            Yeah, no.

If you’re “all for walking,” you would’ve moved the vehicle after you got your mother situated.

      • That’s also an expensive ticket. People need those spaces. The rest of us can walk the extra few feet.

        • RaygunsGoZap

True! Parking lots increases my anxiety for some reason. I just park at the furthest, safest spot and walk. Boom!

          • JackFknTwist

A man after my own heart ! I park the far side. I park on the remote top floor away from other car parkers…..less stress, less possibility of interaction. Maybe just plain f uck ’em.

      • Robincho

Dude. I wanna shop in YOUR market…

      • bobbybear.i.am

To those that give me dirty looks every time I LEGALLY park in a handicap space, I’ll gladly show you my open heart surgery scar PLUS my knee replacement scar for good meaasure.

        • JDS

Exactly. I get dirty looks at times also.

          • Todd20036

I get dirty looks too. Has nothing to do with parking.

And, oh… different kind of dirty…

        • RJ Bone

Same here. Three people in this house qualify and we often travel together, so it isn’t even just an individual’s plate. Not even a window placard, but actual plates. We all have obvious mobility issues and even we get the stares and criticism because, what, we didn’t crawl into the store instead? Or be rolled into the store in pieces in a box, perhaps?

I can’t imagine what it’s like for people without immediately obvious critical conditions. 🙁

      • RaygunsGoZap

Yes! About this time last year I was pursuing a new friendship and when going from A to B we swung by his apartment across from Cal Anderson park in Capitol Hill. When we left and got in his car, there’s a handicap placard hanging from the rear view mirror. I challenged him on it and he laughed and said it belonged to his dead grandmother. Might as well not waste it was his excuse but he was obviously embarrassed when I took him to task for it. That was the last time I saw him. i figured out shortly after that he was committing fraud to qualify for subsidized housing. So, effectively stealing housing from someone actually needing housing while he spent 8 weeks travelling internationally.

        • Chucktech

As we see, time and time again, just because one is gay doesn’t mean one is not an asshole.

      • DumbHairyApe

Fines for parking in a disabled space here in California are hundreds of dollars. Even blocking one or pulling into one for a few seconds can result in a ticket/fine. However, that’s not enough. I think they should levy a $1500 fine for anyone who does NOT have a LEGITIMATE parking permit for an accessible parking space. That means you can’t use the pass for your parent, your partner, your friend UNLESS those folk are in your car and THEY need to go into the store.
It really irks me when I see a very able-bodied person pull into a parking lot, jump out of their car and walk with great ease into the store.

    • Blake J Butler

to be fair with regards to the 45 percent that support trump among college educated women, Becky with the yoga pants probably is only going to care about racism unless its pumpkin spice flavored along with an array of different issues.

White working class women are like the men, slaving over for a future that will never happen and elected and re-elect the very people inflicting harm on them and instead blame it on democratic policies and minorities that stole their good paying jobs.

That and most white people are defending the status quo and are afraid of change. White, straight, christian, male, patriarchal dominant society.

      • Chris H.

And I wonder what percentage of all the women who voted for Don the Con were told to vote for him by their husbands.

        • CJAS

I’m guessing a very low percentage. Barely half adults in the US are married. For women over 70, their husbands are more likely to be dead than alive. The average 25-year-old isn’t married. More than one-third over 25 have college degrees.

There is an episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt where one of the characters (A Native American) convinces the Redskins to change the team name to something deplorably offensive so outraged fans will buy and burn team jerseys thus making the team a fortune in jersey sales. Deja Vu

Totally On Topic, Totally On Target: Julia Ainsley wrote for NBC News today:
“Despite the widespread damage to Puerto Rico’s infrastructure inflicted by Hurricane Maria, the federal government is making no promises to fix it.

“Trump said, ‘Ultimately, the government of Puerto Rico will have to work with us to determine how this massive rebuilding effort…will be funded.’ Trump said the effort ‘will end up being one of the biggest ever’ and noted that Puerto Rico already had “a tremendous amount of debt.

“The presidential disaster declaration for Texas after Hurricane Harvey included a promise of federal funds to cover up to 75 percent of the costs to repair ‘damaged public facilities’ including roads, bridges and schools.

“No such clause currently exists in the disaster declaration for Puerto Rico.”

“‘The fact is that Puerto Rico has been destroyed by two hurricanes. Big decisions will have to be made as to the cost of its rebuilding!’ Trump said in an early morning Tweet.”

So fuck you, viral video asshole. Your president doesn’t know shit about anything, whether that’s one’s right to protest or that Puerto Ricans are US citizens.

Do you think the assassin will be Puerto Rican?
Do you think the TeaPeople/Deplorables will claim he’s Muslim because he’s not as pale as they are?
Do you think he’ll get away with a reduced sentence?

      • David Walker

1A. I don’t know…I would hope not…but I think that may be one reason he’s been putting off visiting there. That and I doubt there’s a friendly venue on the island.
1B. I would much rather the assassin be one of his base, a MAGA hat burner, perhaps. That person, of course, would have an array of firearms from which to choose.
        2. Does the sun rise in the east?
        3. No. He’ll be shot like Oswald because, unlike in Dallas, LEOs will be willful in their lack of protection for the suspect.
        4. I wish it would be a woman, frankly. It would show that, unlike Sara Jane Moore and Squeaky Fromme, women CAN handle a gun.
        5. I now feel I have written enough to warrant interrogation by any federal agency under 45’s threats.

I think this has the potential to be the event that pushes the Puerto Rican independence movement over the finish line. Up until now the population has been roughly equally divided three ways between pro-independence, pro-statehood and pro-status quo (“Associated Free State”). The pro-statehood group had been growing the most in recent years, but Trump and hurricane Maria could change all that.

    • Gustav2

Gee, do you think it is because Golden Sacks of Shit wrote the PR paper and still holds and trades a great deal of it?

Puerto Rico is in a massive amount of debt because they cut taxes to attract business who when their taxes went up left. The Laffer Curve is a lie, always was a lie, always will be a lie. Just look at Kansas to see how well conservative economic theories work.

So where were all these fools who are now so done with the NFL when their beloved players were guilty of violence against women, or driving under the influence, or other crimes??? No where to be seen protesting about that. But let some of the teams take a stand for justice and equality, or against President Hugh Janus and they scream about how done with the NFL they are. Go figure!!! Ca you say morons?

    • Ken M

What are they going to do/watch in the winter? All that snow and free time on weekends. Nope, sorry, no NFL for you. She didn’t just say Steelers, she said NFL. Ah the Superbowl. This is going to be like seeing the gang of them quit smoking for 5 months.

McAuliffe drops $1 million-plus on Virginia races

McAuliffe is planning on Saturday to transfer $100,000 more to Virginia House of Delegates campaigns and the state Democrats’ coordinated campaign, a Democrat familiar with the plans told POLITICO.

    http://www.politico.com/story/2017/09/29/terry-mcauliffe-fund-virginia-races-243308

    • another_steve

I assume Virginia remains high on the dream theofascist “state takeover list.” They tried during the election that McAuliffe won in 2013, but lost – and by not that much. McAuliffe got 47.8 percent of the vote, Republican theofascist Ken Cuccinelli got 45.2 percent.

Outside of some progressive geographical areas, Virginia is Arkansas.

The monsters have their eyes on the state.

      • Blake J Butler

Northern virginia is civilized and educated, southern is basically Arkansas with the NRA influence and the Falwell’s and the Liberty university.

      • another_steve

Price was doomed from the get-go because even Donald Trump’s deplorables could recognize the “swamp-ness” of Price’s actions with respect to the charter flights. So obvious and apparent, Price’s swamp-ness was.

Depends. Hatred for Moore is deep, outside of the fundie base. He’s an embarrassment to most Alabamians. IF the national Democrats plow money into the race in an ostentatious fashion as in the GA house race, Moore is guaranteed to win. The only thing a lot of them hate more than Roy Moore is “being told what to do by outsiders”. If national Democrats do HEAVY background nuts/bolts support and GOTV work they have a middling chance.

From a letter I wrote to David Robertson, Music Director of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra (second oldest in the nation) on October 2, 2009, two years before Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell was repealed.

“I just got home from the Symphony and I cannot remember a concert that I have enjoyed so much from beginning to end.

“What drew me tonight was Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man. I must admit that when I saw that the U.S. Army Herald Trumpeters were going to play, I was a bit amused that members of the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” army would be playing a work by one of America’s great gay composers. I have always loved this work, but had not heard it played live till tonight. Experiencing it live at the center of Row A so close to the stage was almost overwhelming.”

        • Cuberly

          Awesome letter.

It really is a show stopper piece.

Funny, Copland and Barber, two unapologetic gay men are so ubiquitiousy intertwined into the Americana of America.

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iy8D1gNoZFc

          • Robincho

And Lenny was no slouch when it came to playing post-concert tonsil hockey with the boys. I don’t know what Sam Barber thought about that, but it embarrassed Copland. Those were different times…

          • Cuberly

I remember reading, don’t ask me where, when the anti-communist hysteria was on high boil machismo was the rule. My understanding is Copland and Barber were never really closeted, everyone knew. But, since any association with a gay person could implicate a friend, associate, they were ostracized by many in the music community.

        • olandp

I remember the first time I heard the music for NBC News on the radio. I thought, “This is either really, really good John Williams, or really, really bad Aaron Copeland.”

          Imagine my disappointment.

        • Robincho

David is a big pal. He and his wife Orli have a dachshund named Milo that would just reduce you to fucking rubble, although I mean that in the good way…

…because hopes and prayers are free. Ineffective, of course, but free.

… Will they burn the Constitution in revolt?

    • Ann Kah

      Symbolically, they already have.

    • Silver Badger

You must admit, they are pretty revolting.

I guess they never heard of barbecue starter fluid in her town. Or she’s terminally stupid. Sad.

…but my dad’s cognitive state is slipping, badly. Oy vey…

ETA: damn, I too, am falling victim to the unrotated pic. This never happened to me when I was using Windows XP. Argh! [That’s my brother, BTW. Single…but very straight.]

    • Treant

Welcome back! Is your mom still with us? Are there arrangements to take care of your dad?

      • JCF

My mom died 10 years ago tomorrow (an anniversary I feel all kinds of ambivalent about. My dad probably won’t remember it anyway, and I don’t know if should bring it up).

        • Max_1

Talking about loved ones who’ve passed with loved ones who’re living can sometimes be difficult.

          • Robincho

Euphemisms for death can be trying. I’m rather fond of one used by my people in Scotland’s Northern Highlands. They refer to someone as having been “gathered up”…

        • Karl Dubhe

          Did he usually remember?

Would he have wanted to be reminded of her and their time together? There are ways to bring it up without doing so. 🙂

        • Silver Badger

My dad died at 72. He did not know who or where he was when he passed. His passing was a release.

          • FAEN

            I’m sorry.

          • Silver Badger

Don’t be. I was trying to soften the inevitable for JCF. My father died over 20 years ago. We weren’t even remotely close

        • Bad Tom

One of the very few blessings of this situation.

If you do bring it up, and it’s a problem, it will soon pass.
          ——-
My husband’s father went through this. It was at times surreal. Such as, while visiting him in the Alzheimer’s special care home, excusing myself to use the restroom, and being treated as a complete stranger when I came back five minutes later, even though I’d known Leo for over twenty years. I just rolled with it, and re-introduced myself, like we were meeting for the first time. It was kind to him, and that was the only thing that mattered.

          • Robincho

I was visiting my music teacher one day. She’d retired at 96 and was living in one of the many Boca Raton facilities that have internal locks to discourage the casual wanderers…

She was a brilliant woman. possessing collegiate degrees from Yale and Iowa and England. And there we were, in this “old folks” home with the locked doors. And there was a bowl of fragrant woodchip potpourri on an end table, and she saw it, and began to munch on it as though it were a pupu platter.

This from a woman who had studied with Myra Hess in London and Paul Hindemith at Yale. I saw this, and I just had to leave — I, a grown-ass man. This was one grim night in Broward County, but my wracking sobs in the descending elevator were surely audible in Gainesville…

I have an excellent mind, but there are people — including my husband — who are sworn to take me and dispose of me if it begins to show signs of deterioration. If there are things more horrifying than that, I do not care to know of them…

          • That_Looks_Delicious

I dunno. I’ve thought about that, but then I think, if I don’t know what’s going on and it doesn’t really bother me, and as long as I’m not a danger to anybody else, then who cares what anybody else thinks? It could be like an acid trip.

          • Prost Seattle

I had to sit and watch my sister die of pancreatic and liver cancer in 2016. Six days before she died, my stepfather died. So my mom lost her husband and only daughter in the same week. 2016 truly sucked, and we were both so looking forward to a better 2017. Mom watches Rachel every evening and gets so worked up over how much she hates Trump.

My mother was never much like her mother, at least until she turned 80. Man, if she doesn’t like you, watch out, she’s got you in her crosshairs!

          • yes b’y

            How very sad.

          • Robincho

Bless you… As I age, the only thing that really matters to me about other people is are they kind or not?…

        • FAEN

          I’m sorry matey.

          BIG HUGS

        • Bad Tom

Honestly, I’d only address it if he brings it up, or it’s an inevitable topic of conversation.

If he doesn’t bring it up, he probably doesn’t remember, and that’s OK.

        • Robincho

Let it go. One (you) will remember, and one (he) will not…

    • Cuberly

      Welcome back!

Sorry to hear about your dad’s decline. (hugs)

    • fuzzybits

Didn’t know you were gone, but welcome back! The Sierra’s are beautiful. Sorry to hear about your dad.

      • Robincho

        The Sierra are beautiful…

        • fuzzybits

Yea,I know. It’s Donna Summer and Susanne Sommers too.

        • JCF

My dad would love you for this, Robincho! [“Sierras” is one of his biggest bugaboos: “the word is already plural!”]

          • Robincho

I’d love to know both you AND your dad. The other montane mishap that drives me batcrap is when people don’t know that Appalachian IS NOT FUCKING HOMOPHONOUS with “appellation”… It’s “Apple Latchin'”, goddammit…

& Aaron Copland (though he rarely got west of the Hudson River [and yet, ironically, created the sound of what came to be thought of as synonymous with the American West]), is right there with me on this one, pardner…

    • JCF

Seriously, does anyone know why pics you rotate don’t rotate when upload them? I confess, when I saw this w/ other folk’s pics here, I thought either 1) silly, you forgot to rotate your pic or 2) this must be the result from posting from your phone. WTF anyway?

I can only hope that Kelly has been having nightmares about his son dying in Iraq for his father to back a white supremacist in the White House… And he’s beginning to come around.

    • Treant

So Kelly will be fired Monday when dampnut returns from golfing.

And then we’ll see the entire White House go completely insane with absolutely no controls.

‘sNOT going to happen. The likelier scenario is that the YUGE number of dislocated Puerto Ricans moving to the Orlando area may flip Florida hard blue. Maybe Georgia, if enough relocate to Atlanta. They can vote upon arrival, as they’re US citizens.

    • -M-

I was thinking that, for their own sake, they ought to just quietly secede. First take aid from anywhere without worrying about the Jones act then in a few months announce they’ve joined another country.

  • DaddyRay

Every time I watch that clip of the Mayor of San Juan, it just infuriates me

    • Lars Littlefield

I’m watching it right now on the Rachel. Very articulate. She doesn’t sound like a politician. She sounds like a human being.

      • houstonray

I’m not sure her political aspirations but I think she’s destined for big things. She was speaking about the Jones Act the other day and saying how it was the right thing to do, even if others opposed it and used slavery, women’s right to vote, and marriage equality. It was both heartbreaking and inspiring.

        • SoCalGal20

Unfortunately, unless she moves back to the mainland she doesn’t have much further to go politically in PR. She could be governor, I guess, but since PR is treated so shitty by our government structure even in normal times, that wouldn’t mean too much on the national scene. I suppose she could move back to the mainland and run for President or Congress.

      • AmeriCanadian

That’s why I suspect she will retire after this episode and stay the hell away from politics. She’s seen just how evil bureaucracy can be and I think it has broken her. It’s too bad because politics needs more people like her…people with empathy.

I’m so sorry you had that experience.
Some 30 years ago or so, this young out and proud gayling put a rainbow triangle vinyl sticker on the back window of my car. Within a month my car was vandalized, car windows, head and taillights smashed and cocksucker spray painted on the hood (bonnet for Brit friends). I was never keen on what I saw as marring a vehicle with any bumper sticker but after that I decided not to draw attention to my car.

OT: I’m obvs not an authority in this but I don’t get why the military isn’t doing supply air drops to the more isolated and cut-off regions of Puerto Rico. When the infrastructure was so crippled after the Haiti earthquake that’s exactly what the military did.

Distribution is the bottleneck here, why aren’t they making an attempt to address the most dire aspect while they’re coordinating broader and smarter distribution of relief?

“Bypassing the gridlock of Haiti’s main airport and congestion of roadways in the earthquake-ravaged country, the U.S. military delivered badly needed food and water on Monday by parachute.
A C-17 cargo plane left Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina shortly after noon, and three hours later dropped 40 pallets — or “bundles” as the Air Force refers to them as — holding bottled water and Meals, Ready-to-Eat, or MREs, on a field just north of the Port-au-Prince airport in Haiti.”

The point that often gets lost in the reaction and laughter: “And so would the rest of us!”

    OT: Puerto Rico –

Within just three days or so after Harvey, the military was flying from the Western outskirts of Houston where there is farmland, and using the big chinook helicopters, they loaded up bales of hay, huge, gigantic bales of hay, to feed the livestock surrounded by flood waters as far East as the Texas/Louisiana border. They would fly over and push it out (or sometimes land it and roll it out) and then fly back to the West side of Houston (maybe 75/100 miles each way) and load up again. They did this several times a day, for days on end.

It’s wonderful that they kept the livestock from starving, I’m all for that. But why in the hell can’t do this in Puerto Rico with food and water and supplies? If the news media can land helicopters all over the place to interview people, so too can the military. They just need to load them up, fly them to the remote areas, land in a parking lot or soccer field (have seen plenty of them in aerial footage), unload the supplies and then take off, go back and do it again. Over and over.

Sigh. I think the reasons are obvious. THEY. DON’T. CARE.

EDIT: NOT the military, the people in charge of logistics who don’t seem to know or care what to tell them to do.

    • Sam_Handwich

Don’t blame the military. It’s their civilian command

      • houstonray

Edited to reflect that, absolutely don’t blame them, I meant if those in charge of telling them what to do could do it in Houston for livestock, I’m not sure why they can’t figure it out there.

Yes, kudos to the job our military is doing, saw them all over Houston for days on end doing wonderful stuff.

I love how all these ‘sports fanatics’ are having meltdowns about one of the few things in their lives they figured was safe and sacred. Don’t they fucking get it? They’ve set their loyalty on a brand name…that’s all. The teams change every year…old players leave, new ones join…the team you loved six years ago is NOT THE SAME as this years! So, basically, they love a team mascot and the team colors, and nothing more. Why get so knicker-twisted that this year’s crop of genetically superior millionaires, who really don’t even know (or care) that you exist, do something you don’t like? Put your ‘gear’ in storage, wait a few years, and then get it out again when ‘your team’ is all new and shiny, with different overpaid men who don’t give a rat’s ass if you live or die are dressed in the colors you love.

      • motordog

I always thought the smart way to be a fan would be to pay attention when they’re doing their player picking thing in pre-season, then (if you’re that into it) carefully weight each roster’s pros and cons, THEN decide which team you are following that particular year! I mean, it even makes sense from a business angle…the sports rubes would need to buy new, different shirts and memorabilia each year.

OT: I hope this person’s assessment of the possible replacement for Price is on the money. He basically thinks she dislikes the ACA but is not as full-on hostile like Price is.

    http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slatest/2017/09/29/seema_verma_is_less_inclined_than_tom_price_to_sabotage_obamacare.html

“The inglorious resignation of Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price on Friday leaves vacant an extremely powerful position in President Donald Trump’s cabinet. The early frontrunner for the job is Seema Verma, a former
healthcare consultant who currently heads the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Despite this administration’s crusade against Medicaid, Verma actually worked to expand Medicaid in Indiana while she worked as former governor Mike Pence’s protégé in that state. Verma is no friend of the Affordable Care Act, and she has long wished to impose extra burdens on Americans who receive subsidized health care. She is, however, almost certainly the most qualified and least dogmatic official who could possibly lead HHS under the Trump administration. In fact, Verma replacing Price would be a significant improvement.”

was Lenny gay by direct admission? or what? i’ve never understood his story.

      • Cuberly

I’m pretty sure he was bi, I remember where his daughter spoke about his undying love of her mother, and her mother’s frustration with Lenny’s extracurricular activities.

I think Lenny loved the fact that if you were in awe of him he’d find a way to stick his dick in you….didn’t matter, male female…

OT: If you were in charge of tax reform, what deductions would you eliminate or modify and what tax would you increase/invent?

    1. I would increase or eliminate the wage cap when it comes to the tax that supports Social Security. That would help to stabilize Social Security and make the rich pay their part.
    2. I am a bit leery of the charity deduction because I can’t but wonder what % is less about charity and more about getting a deduction for all the church tithing one does. So in effect, we are subsidizing a lot of people’s social clubs and in fact they are demanding we support a religion not of our choice.
    3. I’d make the rates for investment income to be the same as regular income. Seriously, it annoys the every living hell out of me that the money you work for is taxed MORE.
    4. I would increase the standard deduction and personal exemption so it would actually benefit poorer people.
    5. I would get rid of all deduction rules meant to benefit a single company.
    6. I am also leery of the dependent deductions when it comes to having as many kids as the Duggars.
    7. Increase the top rates. People who blabber about the good old days always forget that way back when, top rates were like 90%.
    8. Some countries just send you a postcard saying that if it sounds right, you’ll get a refund in your account or to pay a set amount instead of forcing people to file. You only file when you contest the result. It actually was on the table but companies like H&R Block and the like fought against it.

    • 1. absolutely, yes. fixes many problems.
      2. yes, painful, but yes. there are better ways to encourage a charitable population.
      3. see #1.
      4. end all regressive taxation. there’s way more of it than most people who blog really understand.
      5. see #3.
      6. /insert long radical feminist rant about population control and management/
      7. after $1M, yes. let people keep the dream of “being rich,” just make “rich” a state of being that by our standards today, is a lot poorer.
      8. the benefit of a highly simplified, sensible, math and science based tax code is that it is easy to understand and a post card and/or email would do it. “we noted that you made x$ last year. we checked with your records and we know you are this old and have this many children and have this much money. here is where you are on a national scale of earners, 1-99%tile. here is what we need to maintain a fair society where everyone has health care, a nice environment, an education, job, volunteer opportunity, justice, home and good food. this is your portion. you (have/will) remunerate your portion of it.

  • OT (but is it really?) – I haven’t known how to respond to the unrelenting shitstorm of the last year and some… nothing I can say or do seems adequate, and I vacillate between nihilistic despair, Buddha-like serenity, and incandescent outrage. So, the other day I was skipping around on iTunes, landed on the original of this, and the parody basically wrote itself. Apologies that I couldn’t get Chris Martin to do the vocals, instead having to rely on my own untrained larynx – but at this point in history, there may be more important things than my dubious warblings. these guys, rescuing parrots. From six days ago:

    https://twitter.com/ismaelff16/status/911760823487516672

    • barrixines

      Good morning.

BCN is one of those cities that is getting quite overrun with parrots – I doubt the bomberos would be quite so kind here.

      https://youtu.be/aUeKuRu5ybA

      • TuuxKabin

For some reason parrots that have escaped, or been released around here have flocked together in a couple of neighborhoods in Queens, and Brooklyn. Nesting mostly in power line transformers. There’s an active campaign to adopt, rather than buy parrots. I’d like one, but the thing’d out live me.

        • barrixines

It seems amazing to me that it’s the same story in cities world over – just how many parrots do escape? Are they particularly known for it? There’s the same problems with power lines here and they are also pissing off orchard owners apparently. I think we’re all getting to the point where we shouldn’t consider adopting much more than a mayfly.

Anyway – bracing myself for how the weekend turns out here. The police have locked many schools intended to be used for polling booths but people have been sleeping in others and have arranged children’s activities in them over the weekend to prevent closure.

Did you see the boat police are using as accomodation here? Just adds another layer of unreality to the whole affair.

          • zhera

Holding my breath for you and Barcelona. Please don’t blow up! Are you planning on voting?

          • barrixines

Absolutely not – I’ve learned my role as a guiri is to keep my opinion to myself no matter how much it is solicited. This is an evenly split city – you’re guaranteed to piss off fifty percent of people with any answer. I am not pro-nationalist but I am also not pro-anyone who would try to use force or violence to prevent people going about their business here this weekend.

          • TuuxKabin

I’ll see your mayfly and raise you a butterfly or two.

I just heard an interview with a Catalan . . . government official or publisher, it was on in the other room, and it was mentioned people locked inside the schools, as you said, with planned activities. I hope there are no strong arm tactics, as would be used here, to dislodge those inside.

The person also mentioned the EU has been very quiet about the issue. A Spanish internal affair? Catalana is the money maker for Spain, correct?

That police boat is a floating jail? Then they expect to make a lot of arrests. Damn.

I am not a fan of caged birds. I know some people like them but why put something that can fly in a cage?

The feeling seems to be mutual because the 3 birds I have been in contact with have all pooped on me at least once.

        • zhera

I had budgies when growing up. The norm was that the door to the cage was always open (some exceptions) and the bird could choose whether to be outside or inside the cage. I have no warm feelings for those who keep the bird caged at all times.

          • barrixines

Yes our budgie cage was open all the time too. At mealtimes the budgie would fly onto my dad’s shoulder and pick food from his teeth…

          • zhera

Aww. I would get harrassed by my budgie when I tried to nap on the couch. Apparently, ear lobes are irresistable to them.

          • TuuxKabin

They are, aren’t they. I remember now, ‘Tinker’ would land on our shoulders as if to whisper something, then take a nibble. The bugger.

            Re-settled in? Things okay?

          • djcoastermark

Yep. Replaced the fence posts shortly after the storm, packed up and went to San Francisco. Just got back today and now the unpleasant task of unpacking and doing the luggage laundry and all the other daily drudgery.

          • TuuxKabin

When you get a chance, a brief summary of where you went and what you did in San Francisco.

We were there the last week of August, in the east bay, no need to cross the bridge anymore. Everything’s good in the east bay.

          • djcoastermark

Stayed with friends in the Inner Sunset area next to Golden Gate Park. Did lots of touristy-ish stuff, lots of eating, tons of walking, hitting up all the neighborhoods, Ocean Beach, Twin Peaks, ( both the natural ones and the bar too) hardly any sleep. Folsom Street Fair too. ( wow !! ) Hubs used to live there so we avoided the tourist trap stuff. He knew how the metro system works so it was easy to get around, nice not having to even think about driving for 9 days or so. (not that I would even think about driving in SF ) Sooo much to do, not enough time. Miss it already, can’t wait to go back.

          • TuuxKabin

The Inner Sunset, close to the Haight, sure. VFW Lodge by any chance on The Great Highway? Yeah, the Muni’s a good system in spite of the burden placed on it. I learned to drive a stick shift on those hills, favorite part was down shifting going down, use less of the brakes. As Thomas Wolfe wrote, “You Can’t Go Home Again.” No attraction for me anymore.

        • zhera

I’m sure he will cancel. On the off chance that I goes anyway, he’ll definitely not meet with the locals. Only leaders of military, etc.

Such poor leadership ability by the Mayor of San Juan, and others in Puerto Rico, who are not able to get their workers to help. They want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort. 10,000 Federal workers now on Island doing a fantastic job.”

    • TuuxKabin

Anything about truth or fake news, the GOP quietly dismantled the CBO in the tax bill?

      • SoCalGal20

They are trying to get rid of the requirement for a CBO score, not sure about getting rid of CBO altogether.

        • TuuxKabin

          Thanks for clearing that up.

        • OdieDenCO

if you don’t need a CBO score why fund the CBO?

          • SoCalGal20

What I read was they were trying to get rid of a requirement for a CBO score, not that they could not request one. And the minority party (Dems) can also request them. So while I have no doubt they want to get rid of CBO I’m not sure if the current thing explicitly does that.

Meanwhile, I had a horrible nightmare last night.

I was trying to help this little boy, about 4 years old, escape two bad guys. They were kidnapping him (multiple times, because we never managed to get completely away) for reasons unclear but I got the impression it was about pedophilia.
So, lots of running around and hiding, and kicking these two bad guys in the groin (satisfying!).

The reason I’m mentioning it here? The bad guys were Uday and Qusay Trump.

    • barrixines

And that little boy, reader, was America.

      • zhera

OMG! I didn’t think of that. Of course he was.

Innocent, naïve, a little bit obnoxious. Wouldn’t do as told (“Be quiet!” “Why?”). Running right up to the bad guys.(“STOP! For fuck’s sake, kid!”)

        Oh, America.

      • DaddyRay

I was wondering yesterday about the etymology of SHAMPOO (French – shampooing).

1762, “to massage,” from Anglo-Indian shampoo, from Hindi champo, imperative of champna “to press, knead the muscles,” perhaps from Sanskrit capayati “pounds, kneads.” Meaning “wash the hair” first recorded 1860; extended 1954 to carpets, upholstery, etc.

OT: Well I was up at 5 AM. Not being able to go back to sleep, I decided to make soap. But I’m out of lard, so whatever shall I do? Head off to the grocery store to buy Valu-Time (animal) Shortening, of course! It’s 94% tallow, 6% partially hydrogenated soybean oil, which is close enough to pure tallow to just call it that.

There’s a Bay Rum scented soap set up and covered downstairs, colored in drab olives, creams, dusty blues, browns, and deep reds to look a bit like slightly more exciting camo. It’s a male scent, that seemed best. The leftovers are dual-toned bars.

Photos once it cures and I can un-mold it in a couple days.

The easiest way to deal with car salespeople, is tell them I don’t have to buy here, I don’t have all day, tell me the facts, or I will go away!

Or, like I had the good fortune, when I made the last purchase, “I am buying this because I want it, not that I need it”! Works the best, like that, they know you can walk and it’s not a big deal to you.

        • DaddyRay

“I’m saying, that TruCoat, you don’t get it you get oxidation problems it’ll cost you a heck of a lot more than $500…”

          • Treant

“That’s why I wax the car at least once a year. Twice, as a general rule. No TruCoat.”

          • DaddyRay

I have had my car 14 years (yes I hate car shopping that much) and did not get TruCoat – it is perfect of course it also only has 81K miles on it

          • Treant

I confess that my 2006 model, a Chrysler Sebring LE Convertible, has all of 32,000 miles on it.

          • DaddyRay

wow – you really don’t drive. I thought I was the only one

          • OdieDenCO

we are legion, 2014 toyota with 65k miles.

          • DaddyRay

Just limit your milage to 14K over the next 10 years and you are in the ballpark

          • DaddyRay

The trick is having a two door – when you get older (as do your friends) they no longer want to crawl into the back seat so you never are asked to drive

          • Treant

From ’06 to ’09 it was my mother’s. Who, quite literally, is a little old lady who only drove it to church and the store. And to her 9,000 meetings and groups; as of last night, she was elected as our Township’s newest board member in a unanimous vote against her opponent. 9001.

But I digress. After Dad died, Mom took his car, which she liked better, and gave me that one. We ditched my old one and I gave her the cash from that. Even so, my old car was a 2000 Toyota Camry with 22,000 miles on it.

            Oh, yahhh!

Does Tru-Coat do anything to protect against salt? Since we have a lot of salt. For like 8 months.

Is it wrong that Bill Macy kind of got me hot? He’s not handsome (he sorta looks like Tony Perkins), he’s not that built (although he did do a shirt-off scene in Jurassic Park 3 that was pretty nice).

            There’s just something about him.

Psssst a heads up. I’m a producer of What Would You Do? We are doing a segment on honest car salesman just play along okay? :p

        • DaddyRay

So make sure you don’t swear or I am going to have to beep you

          • bambinoitaliano

I hate negotiating too. Reminded me of tourist night markets in some Asia cities. It’s a wild west. There is no limit to how high the vendor set the price no matter how stubborn a negotiator one is.

      • Stubenville

Pro tip; bring a book or a tablet to pass the time if they try the waiting game. I bought last month and had a pretty good experience. Pro tip 2; if you’re thinking about an extended warranty, they’ll negotiate like crazy if it’s with a new car purchase.

      • Silver Badger

In America we don’t negotiate. We pay the price as marked or walk away. EXCEPT for our two highest priced purchases, a house or a car. This is not even close to fair. But, as I tell people, fair is an artificial concept found nowhere in nature.

        • DaddyRay

This time around I am trying the TrueCar app – will let you know how it works out

        • Phillip in L.A.

Maybe you don’t negotiate, but that is not how I was taught–and I have found (even in retail stores) that anything with a “high sticker price” (e.g., ~$500+) is negotiable.

Make an offer! All they can do is say ‘no,’ so the downside is non-existent to trivial.

      • Phillip in L.A.

Do you know exactly what car you want, DaddyRay (model, colours, accessories, etc.)? If so, try sending a written offer (just a letter is fine) to the three dealers closest to your home, naming the exact price you will ACTUALLY pay for the car you want. Chances are, you will get an acceptance. That is how we have bought our last four-five cars.

Apparently there is a 75′ high plume of natural gas spewing from the ground by the Lansing airport, prompting a 5 mile radius to evacuate or shelter in place. We could avoid the koolaid and just light a match.

Good! I’m sure she’ll have lots to say.

Malcolm Nance also tweeted he was going to be on this morning in the second hour.

I hope Trumps tweeting will cause that MSM to report more about Puerto Rico.

How many times does that flag touch the ground? If she is so distraught over someone not standing for the National Anthem, she should show better respect herself and ensure he flag stops touching the ground. Which is more disrespectful?
