Homocon Richard Grenell’s History Of Twitter Assholery Comes Up At Ambassadorship Confirmation Hearing

Homocon Richard Grenell history of assholery on Twitter came back to bite his Quisling ass today during his Senate confirmation hearing to be US ambassador to Germany.

Chris Johnson reports at the Washington Blade:

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) took issue with Grenell’s remarks — saying he brought it up privately with the nominee and wished to bring it up publicly — referring to the tweets in his role as a Fox News commentator prior to his nomination earlier this month for the role in the Trump administration.

Murphy said the “litany of derogatory comments about women’s personal appearances” were among the “very inflammatory things” said by the nominee, asking him if he regrets the statement and can understand the concern about the impact they’ll have on his role in Germany.

Contrite in his response, Grenell said it was “never my intention to hurt anyone’s feelings” and denied the comments were representative of his character. Murphy said he wouldn’t say aloud Grenell’s remarks, but they were directed at the appearances of Hillary Clinton, Madeleine Albright, Callista Gingrich and Rachel Maddow.

One 2011 tweet directed at Maddow, a lesbian news anchor on MSNBC, said she “needs to take a breath and put on a necklace” and another compared her look to that of pop singer Justin Bieber. One tweet directed at Gingrich questioned whether she “snaps on” her hair. At around the same time, Grenell tweeted “Hillary is starting to look like Madeleine Albright.”

Some of Grenell’s most offensive tweets were deleted during the ten minutes he was with Mitt Romney’s 2012 campaign before he was forced to resign after hate radio host Bryan Fischer screamed to anybody who would listen. But he soon returned to his dickish ways, generating gasps when he tweeted an accusation that NBC reporter Katy Tur had slept her way into her job.

Grennell will be confirmed, of course.

  • William

    Germany should say “No thanks”.

    • AmeriCanadian

Does Germany have that option? If so, I wholeheartedly agree.

      • bambinoitaliano

Germany can always forget to send out invitations for unofficial function.

        • Adam King

They could snub him entirely, only let him communicate with the lowest-level functionaries.

          • bambinoitaliano

Or piss on his beer and tell him that’s how the German beer taste like.

          • edrex

i suspect he knows the difference. (or he’s never tried beer.)

      • Adam King

They can refuse to recognize his credentials. That almost never happens, though.

        • Tulle Christensen

A country refusing to recognize an ambassador’s credentials is considers a great insult to the sending country

          I support the idea wholeheartedly

          • Nowhereman

Me too. Just what little is mentioned here should be enough for congress to stop him. I wonder if there’s any audio of him making comments about Angel Merkel’s appearance.

          • Danieruw

I wish New Zealand had done that with Scott Brown.

        • BearEyes

the vatican did that with the french ambassador candidate. – highly insulting to the French

          • Steven Jaeger

If I remember correctly because he was gay.

          • BearEyes

yes – hence the rejection – both times he was presented.

      • Jean-Marc in Canada

Any country can refuse an ambassador’s credentials.

  • A L Vee

“she “needs to take a breath and put on a necklace” and another compared her look to that of pop singer Justin Bieber.”

Gay men like this asshole are the absolute WORST sexists and misogynists on Earth. So much so that they make drunken frat boys look like women’s right activists.

    • DaMoldBrok

Please tell me it’s not so, he just can not belong to our club!

If he is as bad as people seem to portray (I have no clue who he is, what he’s about, what he’s said), we need to put forth a vote to revoke his Gay Card and banish him from the Club!

      • Tawreos

Sadly, in order to maintain our history of accepting all comers once he declared he was gay he was a member of the club. Luckily, no one has to sleep with him or invite him to any unofficial functions

      • Lizard

If it makes you feel any better, any group has its duds. We straight women had to deal with Phyllis Schlafly and her ilk for decades.

        • Nowhereman

Now there’s a woman whose obituary I read with a smile. She was a bitter mean nasty vile woman.

          • Todd20036

Are we sure she’s dead? She looked rather desiccated for decades.

          • Jay Silversmith

Her taxidermist said she looked kinda dead to him.

        • zhera

Sarah Palin. Michele Bachmann. Ann Coulter.

The shame. The shame of it all!

    • Lars Littlefield

Be that as it may, Sarah Huckabell still looks and sounds like a dull-witted cow.

      • edrex

        keeping it real, i see.

      • Lizard

        And smug, to boot.

        • Nowhereman

I can’t listen to her. I mute the TV until her lips stop moving.

        • Cucker “Dick” Tarlson

I can’t stand The Smug in stupid people. I really can’t.

          • Strepsi

            stay outta the Bible belt.

          • JackFknTwist

Agreed……the “smug” comes from already being “saved”…….unlike the rest of us……we’re f ucked.

          • Cucker “Dick” Tarlson

Well, I live in West Michigan, so it’s the next best thing.

I’ve grown a thick skin and am not afraid to stand up for myself, but it’s like these people just amped themselves up 100 notches.

      • Danieruw

Now you too can be Ambassador to Germany!

      • BearEyes

        hucky-boo-boo

    • Nowhereman

And most of them certainly don’t have anything to be proud of.

  • Paula

I’ve heard that Richard Grenell only has eyes for 8-12 year old boys.

    • TampaDink

People are saying that this is an improvement, in that he’s given up infants & toddlers.

    • Tawreos

      How very catholic of him.

    • Dagoril

Oh I heard he had other things for 8-12 year old boys too. People are saying it. It is being said.

      • Paula

Lots of people are saying it. It was on the Internet!

        • DaMoldBrok

Well, if it’s in the internet, it HAS to be true!

          • Lars Littlefield

I even read it on JMG.

          • DaMoldBrok

Well than it’s true, case settled!

        • JWC

          Nausty Nausty Chap

      • Adam King

Why, I’ve heard twice today that he’s into 8-12 year old boys.

    • I for one appreciate the diversity Donald has fostered in his administration. And here he is, unprompted reaching out to the NAMBLA-American community.

  • kirby7771

This guy is never a gentleman, is he? And this is who Trump wants as ambassador to Germany. Which is lead by the most powerful woman in the world. LOL. I give him two months before he gets drunk and tweets about Merkel’s looks.

    • bambinoitaliano

Merkel will be smart enough to spy on the US from this loose mouth.

    • Dagoril

I’d be shocked if he hasn’t already.

  • TampaDink

What a piece of shit….but that moniker applies to just about every single person connected with the shit show of an administration.

    • JWC

Some are bigger in stature and cam elevate from “piece” to “sack”

  • Johnny Wyeknot

Oops. About to make an offensive remark about his looks.

    • AmeriCanadian

Yep. A whole lot of Botox going on there.

      • Adam King

        You mean that’s real skin?

    • Cuberly

      Sentient beef jerky?

      • Robincho

        Too generous…

        • Todd20036

Beef jerky, I’d eat. Him, not so much

    • Gerry Fisher

I’m *sure* you won’t *mean* to hurt his wittle fee-wings!

  • dcurlee

Well let’s see Trump is attracted to people that are like him so no shock at all at this guys integrity

    • bambinoitaliano

His pussy grabbing hands are far reaching despite of how small they are.

  • June Gordon

    People ares saying . . . he was born a used condom . . . and has *almost* transitioned to being a human . . . a lot of people are saying that . . . I don’t know if it’s true . . . but that’s I what I heard from a lot of people who love me.

  • Snap-On carries merkins? Who knew?

  • Tawreos

I don’t know about others, but I don’t insult people I don’t know very well without intending to hurt their feelings. If he didn’t do it to hurt their feelings did he do it just for the “rush of being naughty?
There really is no hope of this administration not embarrassing us for a whole hour is there?

    • Adam King

I insult people all the time. I am not an ambassador to anything.

      • Robincho

Tallulah Bankhead was croaking her way through “Give My Regards To Broadway” for Groucho Marx, who said to her

“I got news for you. Broadway turned ’em down. And Herald Square wasn’t too thrilled either…”

I hope, when you insult people, that you do it with at least a portion of Groucho’s élan and stylish panache…

        • David Walker

Clever can take too long. I prefer the Tarzan approach and go right for the jungular.

  • bambinoitaliano

Sigh…for every asshole that gets fired, there’s a cesspool full of them waiting to be pick.

  • Gigi

He’s an embarrassment to dry witted, acerbic tongue, bitchy queens everywhere. Sad.

    • Phillip in L.A.

ikr–and they’re gonna make her an Ambassador, too! (shakes head in disgust.)

      • Lars Littlefield

At least James Hormel, our previous ambassador to Luxembourg, knew lots of meat jokes. Nothing like a good joke about someone’s meat to break international tensions.

  • Gustav2

The new Trumpian ambassadors do not need to be polite.

These are US Territories, their citizens have full & ignored rights. But they are not properly represented in Congress….they have no Senate representation. What is wrong with the USA….this is undemocratic and needs to be rectified.

    • another_steve

Can you imagine today’s conversation between Trump and General Kelly?

“No, President Trump. Puerto Rico is not like Haiti. Puerto Ricans are Americans, Haitians are not.

Yes, they’re not white like you and I, but they’re Americans.”

      • “Who can’t vote–just like the Haitians.” (although the U.S. responded much more quickly to the Haitian people, and with far more troops on the ground to help them)

        • another_steve

I’m a D.C. area resident and care, deeply, for my D.C. brethren.

Residents of the District of Columbia are still denied adequate representation in Congress.

As D.C. automobile license plates say: “Taxation without representation.”

          • FAEN

I didn’t know you were in DC.

          • another_steve

Lol. “D.C. area resident” may not have been the best way of putting it.

See my reply to Richard, nearby in this thread. 😉

          • FAEN

            Ok lol.

          • Richard, another Canuck

            Did you move from Maryland?

          • another_steve

No. We live roughly midway between Baltimore and D.C. and spend time in both cities. Friends of ours live in both places. My husband is a graduate of Georgetown University in D.C. and I have family roots in Baltimore.

Both cities feel like home to us.

          • Robincho

That’s OK for your brethren but what about your cistern?…

          • JackFknTwist

That’s the same democratic deficit as suffered by Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. No proper representation in Congress and their development and infrastructure run down for decades. i am a frequent visitor to St. Croix, and have seen the lack of investment and bad essential services they have had.

        • JCF

“although the U.S. responded much more quickly to the Haitian people, and with far more troops on the ground to help them”

It’s almost like there was a DIFFERENT PRESIDENT then or sumthin’…

It’s like an ongoing horror show. I’m 65 years old and have witnessed quite a bit of American political horror – but never anything of this magnitude.

Someone pinch me so that I can wake up and realize it was all a bad dream.

    • I’m still looking for the portal back to Earth Prime.

      • another_steve

        My portal is Beefeater Gin.

I’ve been blessed with a very fey physical constitution, so that when I drink more than I should, I merely fall asleep. No damage to myself or to others.

Plus, my husband possesses self-control and drinks only very very moderately. My perennial “designated driver.”

Am I fuckin’ blessed, or what?

        • Adam King

I also imbibe the blessed Beefeater, and subsequently pass into blissful unconsciousness. I only do so when at home, however.

          • another_steve

I’ve lost friends over arguments concerning the best U.K. gin. There are several superb ones, but none as superb as Beefeater.

I do Tanqueray and Hendrick’s, but only when the bartender says, “Oh, so sorry, ma’am; we don’t stock Beefeater.”

            (I’m occasionally confused for female.)

          • Adam King

After Beefeater, nothing else tastes quite right.

    • DaMoldBrok

      Pinch, pinch,pinch,pinch,pinch,pinch,pinch,pinch,pinch,pinch,pinch,pinch.

Are you awake yet? If so, please pinch me back, to be sure that I’m awake!

      • another_steve

        Lol.

Thanks for the attempt, babe. 😉

  • When I talk smack about Sarah Huckabee Sanders’ latest fashion-choice abominations and joke about there being an Arkansas Waffle House missing its waitress, I do it fully intending to hurt her feelings (if she were ever to learn what I said).

Grenell knew damned well what he was saying, and his misogynistic remarks were always intended to hurt feelings. Why misogynistic? Because he never says anything similar about the appearances of men.

    • Lars Littlefield

      Brava!

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

EXACTLY! If…correction, when I choose to offend, I do so equally and without mercy. Man, woman, black, white, gay, straight, etc. I’m like South Park and Family Guy, if you are in my sights, I’m coming for you…and not in a good way.

    • Nowhereman

Exactly. And that really is their style–don’t engage women on the issues, just tell them that their butt is too big for their dress, or their boobs are too small or whatever. That is to let women know that their only worth is in how men see them.

    • Blackfork

Well, at least now they’re putting smaller caterpillars on her eyelids.

    A miserable POS.

  • I think it would be a stitch if the Germans refused to accept his credentials — which they should: aside from being an ass, he’s not nearly heavy-duty enough to be ambassador to an important ally.

Something I’ve been wondering ever since Trump became president: if he appoints an ambassador, and the Senate confirms the nomination, can the country refuse to receive that ambassador? Meaning in this case, if Grenell is confirmed, can Germany refuse to grant him diplomatic papers?

    • NowAnAgnostic

The Vatican refused to receive a Gay Ambassador appointed by President Obama, didn’t it?

      • LesbianTippingHabits

That was France. France asked that the Vatican receive a married Gay diplomat as French Ambassador to the Vatican. As I understand the situation, the Vatican never responded and France eventually tried again with someone else.

    • LesbianTippingHabits

Gregory in Seattle, thank you for your question.

The short answer is, Germany has already said Yes, we will accept Richard Grenell as U.S. Ambassador to our country.

This is a standard part of the process. Only when the receiving country affirmatively responds Yes, does the White House proceed further and eventually announce the nomination.

Of course, the receiving country can change its mind, but that’s a major diplomatic No-No. In 2010, then-Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez did this with U.S. Ambassador-designate Larry Palmer, and in response, Washington cancelled the visa of the Venezuelan Ambassador to the U.S., while he was out of the country, and would not let him come back.

Tit for tat, as it were.

  • Jack

    He sounds perfect.

  • Vista-Cruiser

Of course Republicans will confirm Grenell. They consider his Twitter assholery a plus.
