Trump: NFL Owners Fear Their Own Players [VIDEO]

USA Today reports:

President Trump says most Americans agree with his attacks on protesting football players who kneel during the national anthem – and claims so do some National Football League owners.

“They say, ‘We are in a situation where we have to do something,'” Trump said in an interview broadcast Thursday on Fox & Friends. “I think they’re afraid of their players, you want to know the truth.”

Trump’s assertion that the team owners were “afraid” sparked backlash on social media, where users pointed out that most of those players are African-American. The critics included ESPN broadcaster Jemele Hill, who had a dust-up with the White House this month after calling Trump a white supremacist.

  • Anastasia Beaverhousen

Well, if the NFL owners are afraid of their players, I scared to death of you, you orange asshole.

  • crewman

Finally, Trump found an issue he can distract from Russia and play the media like a fiddle. He’s turned a very serious protest over police brutality into a reality-TV faux scandal.

    • Frank McCormick

No. This is a real issue (black lives matter!) The distraction is “disrespecting the flag/veterans”.

      • romanhans

Exactly. It’s amazing how white people can dictate what black people are protesting. Somebody said this protest is against the flag like Gandhi was against food and Rosa Parks just hated buses.

        • Bluto

White ‘splaining. The white male is always the victim.

  • Uncle Mark

“NFL owners are afraid of their players” = “Plantation owners, who are afraid of their slaves, aren’t whipping them enough”

    • Michael White

can’t keep them in their place. Fucking republican assholes all of them

    • Bluto

Yup. The owners own the team, NOT the players.

  • netxtown

donnie be scared of them big black mens. and if he’s scared, every body is scared.

    fuck I hate that sonofabitch.

    • Gustav2

Well, when you only have tiny…

      hands.

    • BJORN RAGNVALDR

Not so much scared as intimidated by a size stereotype that he always seems obsessed with.
      His micro penis.

    • Todd20036

I’ve crashed into a few big black men…
I’ve never emerged the worse for wear.
A few of them have, however….

  • greenmanTN

    Oh for fuck’s sake.

Next he’ll call for a paper bag test to see if they are eligible to play.

  • Gustav2

If an “owner” can trade a player away. why would the “owner” be afraid?

Maybe we should sell the owners “south.”

  • Uncle Mark

Dumbass thinks that the NFL team owners actually own the players. The shitgibbon doesn’t realize that these are all contract players, and firing them is complicated. Furthermore, removing star players from games will kill their bottom line.

Perhaps, if Twitler actually had a successful football team, as opposed to one he ran into the ground, he would understand this.

    • lymis

Maybe that’s the reason Trump only hires incompetents. Easier to fire, if firing people is your main joy in life.

      • Mostly I think smart people make him feel stupid (which he is). Smart people realize how much they don’t know and want other smart people around to fill in the gaps. Trump doesn’t want to hear anything that contradicts his own bigoted narrative. Also, what actual smart person would accept the job? From what I’ve heard the main reason they still have so many open positions in the administration is that no one competent is interested.

        • Franciscan

Mnuchin is smart. He’s working for Trump either to feather his nest or insure the ascendancy of the parasitic banker class of which he is a member.

    • Hunter M

It’s pretty obviously that he would run a NFL team the same why he ran a casino.

  • Jerry Kott

There use to a sense of shame in being ignorant. Now , willful ignorance is an American Value and celebrated..

      • cleos_mom

No shit. I’m old enough to remember more than five decades, and I never used to hear people brag about being uneducated.

    • UrsusArctos

Nothing is more enraging & pitiful than willful ignorance.
I guess the new “Trumpist” party will recycle the “Know Nothings” name. They drug “Make America Great Again and “Blood and Soil” back into American politics, so why not.

        ):

their programs are almost certainly in dire straights [sic] with both the Department of Justice (DOJ) and NCAA. The evidence here is based on an undercover FBI agent, wiretapped phones, recordings, written communication and financial transaction data. The feds win nearly every case for a reason. And the indicted haven’t even started flipping yet.

The Dog Whistle Heard Round The World.

First of all Donald J. Trump needs to remember that in the NFL the players aren’t just the employee, they are the PRODUCT. Without the PRODUCT, you have no audience. The owners need the Players, not the other way around and if they’re not careful they’re going to lose their league over a NINCOMPOOP called Donald J. Trump.

    • Jerry Kott

I haven’t seen the word Nincompoop used for a long time.

      • worstcultever

hah – yes indeed, points for that excellent word

    • worstcultever

It’s really quite hilarious, how he thinks the players are, like, nothing. I think he actually views them as akin to his beauty contestant pussy-grabees or something. He has no idea of the ground he’s on.

      • clay

isn’t that why the other owners hated him when he had that minor league team?

        • UrsusArctos

The NFL owners must not like or trust him either, they turned him down as an owner.

          • clay

I think they saw what he did with his smaller football team.

          • UrsusArctos

That and they didn’t want his bad check to bounce. If they had let him have the team, it was an invitation to constant pointless litigation over his avoiding payment and eventual bankruptcy.

        • jerry

He insisted that the USFL compete directly with the NFL in the fall. They were doing OK when they played in the spring/early summer with no other football competition. Eventually Trump won the argument, they tried competing with the NFL, and his team as well as the entire league went bankrupt.

          • Bad Tom

Because in reality Trump likes picking fights, but he sucks at actually winning them.

          • clay

There was also a letter circulated from an owner or a coach telling Trump that he was treating people like shit, that nobody liked him because of it, and to knock it off. . .

for the good of the league, of course, nothing personal.

      • This is how most CEOs view employees. Why is this surprising?

        • SFBruce

Large corporations have these things called HR departments. While I’m certainly not suggesting things are just perfect in corporate-land, little Donnie never had to answer to an HR department, and it shows.

  • Jerry Kott

T45 fumbled, he dropped the ball in how many attempts he is making to demonize the Black players. The owners know who butters their bread on both side. The dick just can’t let it go.
He is the real enemy of the American People, not the players.

  • HZ81

“They say, ‘We are in a situation where we have to do something.”

    • UrsusArctos

Sucks that the NFL owners wouldn’t let him buy a club “hire” him, but the deplorables saw to it we did.

  • Uncle Mark

Once again the Fascist ‘N Chief skews the message…allegedly making this all about the flag, or “uppity” players intimidating their boss, while intentionally turning a deaf ear to racial element. The lying fucker did this a couple months ago over the removal of Confederate images & symbols as somehow being about “subverting/erasing history,” while again ignoring (wink-wink) the racial component.

The racist fucker knows EXACTLY what he’s doing. He’s throwing out racist red meat to his deplorables, while trying to convince the MSM that it’s something bigger by making it about respecting the flag, the national anthem & respecting veterans (except for John McCain of course). In the meantime, it distracts from PR, the Russian investigation, the failure of the repeal-and replace effort, and this shitty “tax reform”plan.

Lastly, let’s not forget that Trumplethinskin has just been snubbed by the NBA championship team, and now the NHL in general. Twitler probably see’s himself as much a symbol of this country as the flag….and ALL MUST PRAISE CAESAR

    • Ranger One

He doesn’t criticize people waving the confederate flag around, which is disrespect to our flag.

      • Uncle Mark

Because DJT LOVES history !! /s

        • Franciscan

Donald’s appeal to patriotism is entirely phony and disingenuous, but of course he’s not the first to do it. Ronald Reagan pulled the same kind of stuff, and of course during the Vietnam War protests, the trope hurled at us by the far right was, “America, love it or leave it.” You can’t love America if you treat half of us like slaves.

    • wmforr

A flag is a piece of cloth. Worshiping the flag is what Christians call “idolatry”. The flag’s importance is only its symbolic representation of American ideals. No, not “we’re the biggest and the toughest”. More like “all men are created equal”. How tough we are or who we invade means nothing if we don’t live up to the principles enumerated in the Constitution.

    • thatotherjean

Fortunately, the Russia investigation continues, repeal-and-replace is presently (though probably not permanently) dead, and Trump’s “tax reform” plan, which is obviously a “tax cut for the rich” plan, looks to be DOA, despite all the song and dance from Donnie. He can distract all he wants, but he’s not changing what’s really happening.

  • Jeffg166

They have hundreds of millions invested in players. I’d be scared too if they weren’t happy. Owners could find they own a worthless team if they drive them away.

    • Gustav2

Since, as president, Trump works for the players, isn’t that backasswards?

      • Vira

Trump is fomenting the fear-mongering narrative of NFL players (the slaves) rebelling against NFL owners (the massas). The slave:master analogy, however, is too real to contemplate for the majority of players, who willingly risk their health and even their lives for comparative chump change.

And no, no one things that Trump represents the interests of the majority of NFL players, or even American citizens for that matter.

        • Gustav2

But he does have it backasswards, as citizens, Trump works for them.

  • Adam Schmidt

I’ll get old school here and say management SHOULD fear their labor, at least a little bit.

    • thatotherjean

Sure. A shiver of fear gives management a reason to make sure labor is reasonably happy, so they’ll keep working. But the NFL protests have nothing to do with labor/management disputes, despite what Donnie wants everybody to believe. It’s not about the flag, it’s not about patriotism, it’s not about disrespect at all–except the disrespect of police officers for black people in too many instances.

      • Adam Schmidt

Oh I agree. Donnie is absolutely trying to shift the perception from black athletes protesting real harm being done to their community to it being a labor dispute or that they’re disrespecting the flag. Just saying that even under his argument, management should be afraid of labor… it’s something we’ve been missing for too long.

  • lymis

    Here’s an idea.

Let’s just stop playing the national anthem at sporting events, as though football is some patriotic activity in the first place.

    • edrex

that would solve the controversy of players kneeling, but it won’t solve the problem of black people being shot by police for no reason.

  • Silver Badger

Perhaps trump should fear his fellow countrymen.

  • This is one of the biggest things wrong with America and it’s something that older people just don’t seem to (want to) understand. It’s not like people who inherited money and think of everyone who works for them as “the help” didn’t always exist, but in the 50s and 60s a lot of the big employers had worked very hard to get where they and had loyalty to the people who worked for them. Sam Walton treated his employees very well. (That was a long time ago, but it’s true.) Ford thought everyone working making his cars should make enough to be able to afford to buy one. There are plenty of examples. Yes, they got rich, but people working in their factories could afford to buy a home and life decently. But that was then. Now the people who run companies are people who were born with lots of money, got into good schools thanks to a lot of private tutoring (and someone else writing their term papers) and look on everyone that works for them as parasites stealing money from them. It’s an attitude articulated by Ayn Rand but probably if she hadn’t promoted that sick fantasy of wealth and labor someone else would have.

So, back to the present. It’s inconceivable to Trump that some of the owners might actually care about the players. After all, that’s who does the actual work in the NFL. They might realize that without players they don’t have sportsball. And they might even be aware that some of them still get stopped for driving a nice car in their own neighborhood. I know a number of successful African American people who have that happen at least a few times every month. No violation, just “driving while black.” Now maybe it’s just that they are smart enough not to piss off their workers, but even that is unusual these days when employees are tossed aside like trash in order to increase the CEO’s bonus (I’ve seen that happen more than once). But it tells us a lot about Trump that he can’t imagine that the owners actually care, because he doesn’t and can’t. This is, after all, a man well known for not paying his bills. And look at how indifferent he is to people dying in Puerto Rico. He’s a sociopath. Fuck anyone who voted for him. The rest of us do not deserve this and the people in PR most certainly don’t.

    Jim Crow dogwhistles. Nice.

  • Talisman

Dude, instead of bitching about the NFL, why don’t you do something Presidential and offer real aid to Peurto Rico, or help the Mexicans affected by the earthquake…anything but distract from one scandal with another.

when will the truth of Trump’s revenge come out. this isn’t about the flag or the anthem. years ago he wanted to buy an NFL team. the owners, who have to agree to all purchases or new franchises, called him a ‘scumbag’ and denied his request. he retaliated at the time by starting the USFL, an alternate league that played off-season. after a couple of years, Trump talked (really dictated) the season be changed to the fall competing with the NFL. the league went bust costing millions of dollars lost to a lot of people, and another Trump bankruptcy! as he has done all his sad little life, he wants revenge… 😜

    Donny”never wrong” (in his mind)

  • Nowhereman

This is a mess of your own making, Trump. And now you think you’re the only one who can fix it? If Trump gets his way he won’t stop until every single one of us hates every other one of us. That’s how he runs his businesses and how he now runs the white house. He likes to keep everybody at each other’s throats.
I hope that the NFL and other professional sports leagues just stop playing the goddam racist anthem entirely. Going to or playing in a ball game should not be subject to these jingoistic faux patriotism displays. It’s like forced public prayer. Just stop it! Play ball!

Government should fear the power of the people.
Owners should fear the collective power of their workers.
    Yeah, Socialism!
