POLL: Majority Oppose Trump On NFL Protests

Reuters reports:

A majority of Americans disagree with President Donald Trump鈥檚 assertion that football players should be fired for kneeling during the national anthem, even though most say they would personally stand during the song, according to an exclusive Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll released on Tuesday.

The Sept. 25-26 poll found that 57 percent of adults do not think the National Football League should fire players who kneel. This included 61 percent of NFL fans who watch at least a few games per season. The results were split along party lines, however, as 82 percent of Democrats and 29 percent of Republicans disagreed with the president鈥檚 comments about firing football players.

  • Lumpy Gaga

    Damn 18%-ers.

  • Tawreos

The ones that agree with are far more vocal about it than those that disagree

  • Ziad Baaklini

It’s pretty hilarious how many Republicans support anything that comes out of that mouthbreather. Maybe one day they’ll think for themselves.

    • glass

You’re not allowed to think for yourself when you are part of a cult.

      • jimbo65

        Or the Borg collective.

    • Tomcat

Watch that mouthbreather crack. It is a requirement for living in Tennessee.

  • justme

.. and when has this influenced or bothered republicans??

  • Jonty Coppersmith

Recently there have been several issues about which polls show a majority of Americans are on the right side of DACA, ACA and now this. Are these responses honest? If they are, how in the hell did the asshole get elected?

    • Tomcat

It was all a big stupid joke perpetrated by hateful republicans in collusion with Russia.

    • Judas Peckerwood

Well he did lose by almost three million votes.

      • Jonty Coppersmith

        If only he had lost!

    • Gianni

He got elected because of our ridiculous and antiquated electoral system. He received all the right votes in those states that carried the needed electoral votes to make him President. Hillary would have won if we had the guts to get rid of the electoral college and choose leaders, like the rest of the civilized world, by the popular vote, which Donnie clearly lost.

    • Bad Tom

I believe Russia hacking had a larger influence that we suspect. We had no idea they were waging a social media disinformation campaign, with serious support.

We knew about bots, but we didn’t know about entire rallies organized by the Russians. Nor about the ad campaigns. Nor the fake news web sites.

All of this is very pernicious if you aren’t aware it is a possibility.

    • Ross

      Did the asshole get elected?

Or did Russia steal the election?

My bet is on the latter.

    • The_Wretched

The R serve the money that elected them and makes them rich. No one else.

  • Tomcat

This is just like a million other things. The majority mean nothing to trumps administration. Only DEPLORABLES.

    • Bad Tom

But the majority means something in the midterms. And so to quite a few Hon. Representatives and Senators. Trump may not care, but their asses are on the line.

Trump may care soon enough, either after Mueller, or after the midterms.

Some of you may remember how irked i was on election night last year
because i was stuck accompanying a community chorus rehearsal every
Tuesday night, which i wouldn’t get home from until 10. Well last week i
drove to said rehearsal and quit!! Felt so good! lol. But no hard feelings, and they
found a replacement right away. They are nice people, but It wasn’t a job i particularly enjoyed. And this year it would have kept me tied up on
Halloween, a night we always spend on a friend’s front porch having a

Also, hubs just started a new job and he’ll be getting out early on Tuesdays and having Wed off. So,,,this is my first Tuesday night with no rehearsal to go to. YAY

    • Tomcat

That is why it is called a chorus, there is always another to take your place, so enjoy your freedom time.

      • Sam_Handwich

well i played piano for them. but the director knew of someone who was interested in the job

        • Tomcat

Think about them on Halloween. And raise a toast to them.

        • Treant

So you (twitch of hip) have talented hands…

        • That’s good because these days pianists aren’t always that easy to find.

    • Oscarlating Wildely

Two guys in my neighborhood sit at the end of their driveway. I think they’ve been partners but now currently live together. They hand out big ass candy bars and throw back way too much booze in the process. Kids love them and to be honest I think they got it right. Cheers and enjoy!

      • Sam_Handwich

there’s usually 6 or 8 of us on the porch swilling down martinis. the parents remember us year to year more than the kids do. they say “I’ll have one of those please!” lol

        • FAEN

          Atta Handwich!

I take it you have the small paper Dixie cups available.

where I used to live years ago, the dads would take their kids out trick or treating and bring a cup or mug with them. Candy for the kids and a libation for the dads. It was fun.

        • FAEN

I second that though could you make mine smoked salmon instead of bacon?

        • Gerry Fisher

Sounds like Spookybear in Provincetown for Halloween.

      • Anastasia Beaverhousen

Have you been to our house, oh wait. We let them come in the dining room and get the big ass candy bars and popcorn balls. While of course we have black vodka martinis.

        • Phillip in L.A.

          Popcorns have balls, now, Anastasia?

I remember pledging early and often to stuff my vote for Handwich right up your ballot box early and often. I remember letting out an expletive riddled tirade on election night around 7pm HST. I remember opening the good champagne and drinking it anyway because we were SURE… I don’t remember anything after that and the choir thing escapes me as well.

Have a date night with your hubby, make something with sausage. Enjoy.

    • David Walker

Well done. I retired from directing a couple years ago. I was OK about that. I’m not a trained director, almost complete self-taught, I thought I’d taken a really, really good group as far as I could. But every once in a while I’d find myself conducting a CD or going through publishers’ new crops of music. A new chorus has formed in Harrisburg and they asked me to be co-director. I missed waving my arms around in front of singers, so I agreed. Our first concerts went well. And now we’ve started rehearsals for the holiday concerts. FUCK!!!! The one thing that I never, never, ever missed during retirement was getting ready for a holiday concert. It’s all-consuming and it’s in your head at 10 months of the year. So, yeah, I have the joy and challenge and discovery of rehearsal, but it’s rehearsing fucking holiday shit. I think you did the right thing. Just don’t look back.

    • Robincho

As the co-founder of the San Francisco Symphony Chorus, whose Tuesday nights from 7 to 10 p.m. were subsequently taken from him for a period of ONE ENTIRE FUCKING DECADE, and who simultaneously had a very new boyfriend (later husband) at home basically going wtf during those hours, I applaud your decision. One is all for choral music — indeed, one is all for ALL music — but does it necessarily supersede a newly-found companion, the merest sight of whom could totally transform your whole life?

My first free Tuesday night occurred 30 years ago. I have treasured those hours unceasingly ever since, and I bid you welcome to a similar situation. You’d be amazed at how much stuff you can do when a chance like this comes forward to present itself… 馃槈

According to the Boy Scout handbook, flag burning is perfectly acceptable. When your flag becomes worn, you can either bury it (in a box) or burn it.

Yeah, it’s confusing. I remember the Sunday tradition in our hometown.

Cultural and religious Jews (myself included in the former category) hope for Trump’s early demise. Not necessarily death, but departure from the scene.

In Yiddish we say that something that’s particularly disgraceful and degrading is a “shanda fer di goyim.” Usually applied to something a Jew has done, it can also apply to something particularly shameful, degrading or disgraceful that a gentile (non-Jew) has done. It means something like, “a disgrace unto the people.”
