Dem Rep Vows To Force Impeachment Vote [VIDEO]

The Hill reports:

Rep. Al Green (D-Texas) said Tuesday that he will move to force a House floor vote to impeach President Trump next week as he denounced Trump’s attacks on NFL players protesting police brutality.

Green, a member of the Congressional Black Caucus, stood on the GOP side of the House chamber to announce his plans to file a resolution that will automatically trigger a floor vote.

“I rise today as a proud American. A person who believes in his country, who salutes the flag and says the Pledge of Allegiance and sings the national anthem,” Green said, wearing an American flag-themed tie. “I will stand here in the well of the Congress, and I will call for the impeachment of the president of the United States of America,” he said.

  • Lazycrockett

I’ve watched Green a couple times on AM Joy and I like him.

    • FancyThat

Trump’s base won’t see Rep. Al Green. They’ll only see an angry black man, which will simply strengthen their resolve and further entrench their support.

      • Adam King

They need to see more angry black people. They need all the angry black people up in their faces, all the time.

  • Todd Allis

    Good luck with that…

  • bkmn

It won’t go far but it will force them to go on the record…and that can be used in the next election. People are really tiring of Trump and the fact the GOP is not doing any oversight on him will resonate with voters.

    • Tawreos

Do you really believe that enough republicans will show up to have this mean anything?

      • Todd20036

The fact that the GOP won’t vote for impeachment for a traitor after voting impeachment for a blow job might help nudge a few fence sitters.

        • Tomcat

Doubt it very much. They actually believe THEY are SPECIAL.

      • Uncle Mark

Having this on record will help when Mueller unleashes the torrent of charges and evidence from his investigation. Many will wonder how many Republicans knew about his crimes, and yet preferred to sit on the information. It will help cement in the public’s consciousnesses the bonds between Trump & the Republicans

        • Circ09

Goddes, do I ever miss having that kind of optimism!

    • Circ09

Thing is- where I come from people are not tiring of Trump. They are cheering him on. My mother’s facebook feed right now is full up with idiots threatening to burn all their Dallas Cowboy’s gear.

      Puerto Rico? Where is that?!?

      • CanuckDon

It’s dreadful to know but I suppose when those people lived with the false Obama narratives and were convinced it was the end of the world , Trump makes sense to them. I hope that something finally wakes them to reality.

        • Ninja0980

Nothing will.. that’s the sad part.

          • David L. Caster

Perhaps nothing short of a very bright flash of light and a rising mushroom cloud. Even then they may not connect the dots.

        • Circ09

The only hope is to mobilize enough ‘others’. Lucky for Texas there is more and more ‘others’ moving in every day right now. There is no reasoning with the rest.

      • Willys41

I don’t want to know where you live but I’d suggest you get out while you still have a functioning brain.

        • Circ09

I did get out, thanks. Saw a good portion of the world. Lived in a couple other countries and a few other of these United States. And then I came back for family. So I’m making the most of it.

      • Ken M

So, burn it. Threats are the short end of lies. Follow through or keep it to themselves.

    • Ragnar Lothbrok

The NFL nonsense is fucking ridiculous. But, he is basically ignoring Puerto Rico and now literally, actually and for fucking real taking us to the brink of nuclear war should wake the ENTIRE GOP up. Today!!
      * Crickets.

  • Tawreos

They won’t get rid of him until they either fear their chances of being re-elected or they have gotten their paymasters enough of what they want to cut him loose.

    • Ken M

The GOP will turn on Trump as soon as he starts threatening their chances of victories in 2018. I’d wouldn’t be surprised if a couple more vote no to the healthcare bill. He’s already pissing them off. Established Congress members know that he is not needed to move forward with their own agendas. Lets remember, Trump have been in office for 9 months. What has actually passed? Their methods may seem like they are against their states bases, when in reality, they can easily blame the losses on either the Dems or on Trump. His allotted time is only 2 terms, while they can keep trying.

      • Daveed_WOW

Well, he’s passed brutal immigration laws.

  • Sam_Handwich

Cheap theatrics, not helpful. Let Mueller do his job.

    • Todd20036

I disagree. Theatrics is important these days. Trump made it so

      • Lumpy Gaga

Yeah, as a lefty, I want a piece of that distraction action.

      • William

        Think of the tv ratings!

    • David L. Caster

      Probably not helpful.

    • MichaelJ

I agree that impeachment hearings should wait until Mueller is able to complete his investigation and reveal its findings, assuming that the President doesn’t find a way to fire the special prosecutor (It can be done indirectly: http://www.factcheck.org/2017/06/can-trump-fire-mueller/) or terminate the investigation.

But having large numbers of elected officials and other politicians continually call for impeachment is important — it will be picked up by the media normalize the notion that Trump is worthy of investigation and possible impeachment. In any case, hearings aren’t going to happen as a result of Democrats protests. They will happen if and only if Republicans turn on Trump. I don’t know if they will.

  • PickyPecker

I love Al Green. Oh, wait….

  • clay

Is there significance in his standing on the GOP side of the chamber?

    • Treant

      He’s symbolically invading their space.

Think of the whining “superior” you’ve certainly had who looms over you, deep in your personal space, to try to make you feel uncomfortable.

(I once spun my chair and managed to “accidentally” scuff the tops of his shoes very badly. I apologized, and pointed out that, just perhaps, he might not want to stand that close to me).

    • Tomcat

Isn’t it the Mason Dixon line?

  • lymis

The man needs to be removed from office. No question. I don’t think that any move for impeachment will – or even possibly should – work until the Mueller investigation is complete.

We’re still getting new revelations almost daily. If an impeachment move is premature, any subsequent attempt will be even harder, and the investigation might shut down before we know everyone who needs to be removed.

    • Tatonka

100% agree with this. The only thing that would make me happier than impeachment would be an old fashioned medieval drawing and quartering, following by the dispersal of his limbs to the four corners of the realm.

But until Mueller finishes up it’s premature.

    • The_Wretched

As a matter of how politics works, the Reps and Senators need to call for impeachment over and over again and the media has to repeat it. You can’t just say “ok, today’s we’re ready” and go from 0 to 60.

  • Max_1
    • yes b’y

That’s, the first time I’ve seen that kid looking happy.

    • Lazycrockett

      They both like shiny things.

    • Tomcat

That’s the eclipse, daddy created that.

    • kaydenpat

Trump and the rest will have spent all the money on lawyers by then. Sorry Tiffany.

    • Lumpy Gaga

“Made you look at the sun!”

      • Judas Peckerwood

        That made me snort!

    • Uncle Mark

Unless Trump has moved his money somewhere off the books that can’t be found. Let’s not forget how the first batch of crotch-fruit tried to fuck Tiffany out of her inheritance. (The road apples don’t fall far from the ass. Donnie-Two-Scoops screwed his older brother & family out of his inheritance, denying critical funds to care for his nephews seriously ill baby.). I have little doubt that this sick, selfish brood is seeking to fuck over Tiffany, Melania, an Barron

      • Hank

Whatever $$ he may or may not have, are probably in Deutsche Bank, Alpha Bank. banks in Cyprus and Macedonia!!!

      • Daveed_WOW

That’s assuming there is any money. Long-standing rumor that Trump has only debt, no real cash. The Presidency is his only source of income. He’s getting paid considerably less than when he was on his own TV show every week.

        • bzrd

he rents his name, many who have signed on are regretting that now

          • Daveed_WOW

Yes. He does not actually own any building that bear his name. He gets paid for naming rights and makes his associates sign NDA and then he terrorizes them with litigation.

    • Ann Kah

It could be nothing but debts for his heirs.

  • Lumpy Gaga

“Hello? This thing on? Check. Two. Two.”

    — Puerto Rico

    • Tomcat

It has been on the news all morning. Take a break already.

      • Lumpy Gaga

Why, yes. You’re right! This morning Richard Shelby was “confident” that Congress will do… something. And .. oh, Joy! .. Trump will see them next Tuesday. I was like, “TODAY is Tuesday. WTF?”

        But … FOOTBALL! FOOTBALL! FOOTBALL!

    • Ken M
      • Lumpy Gaga

At this point, no one in PR needs another pile of shit on their hands.

Mid-fricking-October is when Ryan has promised help. Arghhh!!

      • Lumpy Gaga

        [Bannable] Ryan.

        • Shut down the toilets completely…and turn off the water and electricity in the White House, too.

      • Lumpy Gaga

I saw that smug fuck this morning: “We passed a health-care bill back in May.”

No you didn’t, Paul. That bill was many things, but “health care” was not one of them.

      • Rex

Waiting until a few more US citizens have died off.

        • Lumpy Gaga

“Hey, do Puerto Ricans get Medicaid?”

          — Ryan to his staff the other day

    • David Walker

Keith published early today and delivered a perfect one-two punch with a well-aimed upper cut as well.
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yoR2gCxsyk

      • Exactly…the Sociopath in the White House sees Puerto Ricans only as dispensable servants he can hire at below poverty wages to change sheets in his hotels. He has no concept or regard for people, for human suffering, or for other cultures – or for anyone beyond those who can enrich him.

        • David Walker

There’s a song in the musical “Ragtime” in which an upper middle class white woman suddenly comes to grips that there are other people in the world.

“Each day, the maids trudge up the hill.
          The hired help arrives.
I never stopped to think they might
          Have lives beyond our lives…”

45 will be dead before he either realizes that or acknowledges that. It would be too much for him to comprehend. Apparently, too much for much of DC and 45’s minions to understand, too.

  • The_Wretched

He can say bitch from the floor. and Good! more standing up from more politicians please.

  • justmeeeee

    Oh, please.

  • AtticusP
  • geoffalnutt

Republicans are laughing so hard . Actually, they’re not even paying attention. Too busy robbing America.

    • Lumpy Gaga

Every day he’s in office, somebody’s getting a wet dream: drilling rights, rules obliterated, etc.

      He’s like a white Oprah.

Ain’t gonna stop until the oligarchs are good and ready.

  • Willys41

What would be hilarious is if every republican went into the vote thinking, “There’s no way everybody is going to vote to impeach, so screw it I’ll just vote Yes to let Trump know what a dipshit he is.”

  • Rebecca Gardner

Trump doesn’t even know what the Congressional Black Caucus is.

It is a risky proposition with Republican majorities in both houses because if it fails it’ll mean so much political capital will be spent there wont be another such vote, ever.. If it succeeds though the twitter rage will go down in history.

    • Kelly Lape

“if it fails… so much political capital..” – what capital?

It may build political capital for future votes. Of course the vote will be partisan and no Republican will vote to impeach (that’s what they do). However it will be debated. It will be televised.

    • Daveed_WOW

I think the time for strategizing is over. Go forward with a clear, blunt message and keep sending it.

  • Scribble Writer 🌹 ☭

impeaching trump is awesome but won’t actually fix anything. trump is a symptom, capitalism is the problem.

  • Lars Littlefield
  • Ann Kah

Very few red-state representatives want to run another campaign in their home districts with an “impeach” vote on their records. Yes, that’s their own fault: they gave up integrity in order to appeal to the deplorables, and now they’re stuck with their plight. Time for tiny violins.

  • John Calendo

Too early is as pointless as too late. This sort of empty grandstanding is best left to the Republicans.
