AFA Host Backs Moore On Criminalizing Homosexuality, Says Matt Drudge Needs To Have “Conversion Therapy”

Yesterday CNN noted that leading US Senate candidate Roy Moore called for re-criminalizing homosexuality as recently as two years ago.

“I think homosexuality should be illegal,” Moore said. “Sodomy was declared illegal by the United States Supreme Court in 1987, it said there was no right under the constitution to enlarge the fundamental rights of homosexuals.”

“But then they came back and overturned it,” the interviewer said. “Well surely they overturned it. They didn’t go by their own precedent, did they?” Moore said. Later in the interview, when Press asked why the government should ban what consenting adults do in the privacy of their own homes, Moore compared gay sex to bestiality.

“Just because it’s done behind closed doors, it can still be prohibited by state law. Do you know that bestiality, the relationship between man and beast is prohibited in every state?” Moore asked. “Did I ask you about having sex with a cow?” Press responded. “No you didn’t,” Moore said. “Or a horse, or a dog?” Press asked. “It’s the same thing,” Moore said.

Backing Roy Moore this morning is American Family Association radio host Bryan Fischer, who tangled with me on Twitter in his typical obfuscatory way.

For those unaware, Bryan Fischer has previously declared that the First Amendment only applies to Christians, that black people “rut like rabbits,” and that Native Americans are “morally disqualified” for owning property because they resisting converting to Christianity.

    • BJORN RAGNVALDR

For that reason I believe it is mostly saber rattling, they don’t give a squat about our lives and could care less if we live or die, fuck or not fuck, marry or not BUT, the resistance to marriage, our rights, our lives is a cash cow they can not let die. If they were truly, truly concerned of morality and right living, thay would not have the highest divorce rates in the country, pedophiles would not find the comfort and cover they find in their midst, the hungry would be fed, the homeless housed and the orphaned and outcasts would be taken in and given love and comfort, but no. If suddenly we were stripped of all rights, divorced en mass, children removed and we were either killed or put in camps what would their money beg look like?

As we go, so goes their coffers.

  • vorpal 😼

    Good luck with that.

Instead of criminalizing consensual relationships between adults, how about we criminalize the abusive process of indoctrinating and brainwashing children incapable of consent into believing in ancient mythologies that focus on hatred and asserting dominance over others?

    • kelven

And the documented predatory behavior of these institutions. Sexual and physical abuse. Won’t someone think of the children!

  • fuow

Sadly, the only way to stop Moore is for all the gay men in that forlorn state to get out and vote for the Democratic candidate – Jones.
Like that would ever happen – I mean, actually get out and vote? May the gods forfend!
We’re fucked. We are just as bad as the Maine liberals, incapable of doing the one thing which would protect us.

    • Ninja0980

Even if they did, unless other groups do the same, Jones won’t win.
All LGBT people should vote Democratic but elections in deep red states aren’t lost because of them.

      • fuow

Yeah, actually, quite often the margin turns on us. I attack gay men because I are one. If, however, we take the entire 10% of the population who are queer, then, yeah – if we were active in all aspects (including voter drives) we probably could do it.
Not happening, though – too many of us are far too happy being the victims.

        • Jmdintpa

im agree with you. if queers and other minorities would get off their collective asses and just godamned vote we would not be in this mess. i was trolled bashed and hounded when i pointed out that minority votes were down, gay votes down not counting the traitors who vote republican, white working womens votes were down. seems people in this country are just to damn lazy to stop the bullshit but boy we can take to the streets and protest etc etc but cant get to a voting booth on election day.

          • Ninja0980

Part of that is due to voter suppression, something that is NOT talked about enough.
There is voter apathy but I know there are plenty of people out there who simply can’t get the proper ID required to vote, even though the IDS they have are valid for everything else.

          • SoCalGal20

There’s a huge issue, for example, with the significant number of black men in particular, who have been incarcerated and are therefore unable to vote. Restoration of voting rights for people convicted of crimes varies from state to state.

            http://www.vocativ.com/365545/rate-black-people-cant-vote-felony-convictions/

          • BJORN RAGNVALDR

You can take selfie while protesting to show you were there, most voting locations forbid it, so, you know, it’s hard……/s

        • Ninja0980

My point is that population is spread out.
Yes, there are many folks in the LGBT community and elsewhere who need to get off their asses and vote but the idea elections are being lost in Alabama because of LGBT voters is simply not a valid statement, even though the rest of it is.

      • Jamie Brewer

Too many of my gay brothers and sisters are living in a bubble. A gay friend asked what ” ITMFA” meant on my tee shirt. When I explained the meaning and how the Dan Savage campaign donated the profits from these shirts to the ACLU, Planned Parenthood, and SPLC he then questioned me as to who Dan Savage was. Sadly I got the same reaction a few years back from this same guy when wearing my “Joe my God” tee shirt….

    • margaretpoa

Then there are the homocons that will always vote against their own interests if they think they can make a buck or pretend to be “better” than the rest of us.

    • Reality.Bites

If you think for a nanosecond there are enough non-voting gay men in Alabama to sway an election you’re off the deep end.

At least you didn’t pretend Alabama is loaded with so-called A-list gays who don’t vote.

    • BJORN RAGNVALDR

You can’t tweet, check Facebook, post to instagram, or make memes while in line to vote.

  • Tom239

Fischer said “Scalia, Alito, and Thomas” said sodomy should be illegal. He should read Thomas’ dissent in Lawrence v. Texas, where he said, “If I were a member of the Texas Legislature, I would vote to repeal it. Punishing someone for expressing his sexual preference through noncommercial consensual conduct with another adult does not appear to be a worthy way to expend valuable law enforcement resources.”

    • Ninja0980

      Still crappy logic.
Thomas and other members of the Federalist Society think it isn’t the job of the judicial branch to strike down unjust laws.
Rather, the people these laws target should try and win hearts and minds of the same bigots who passed the laws in the first place or voters etc.
And if people are hurt in the mean time?
That’s just too bad damn bad, same goes if they can’t convince bigots to undo their laws.
Would just have loved to see Thomas apply that logic to Loving, since the marriage he’s in was outlawed until SCOTUS intervened.

      • Tom239

I agree with your points. I’m just saying Fischer doesn’t seem to know what he’s talking about. His statement doesn’t agree with Thomas’ own words on the subject.

    • Todd20036

I thought bestiality was still legal in Texas.

He said “my god, it’s as if ‘The Beast’ has been released.”

He steers clear of all the political crap and doesn’t involve himself at all in it, other than to observe samplings of it. The vitriol and stupidity is amazing. And of course he is aware that much of it is posted or encouraged by bots.

Bryan Fischer is the hind end of a horse, as well as being a bigot. I suppose that it’s possible that Blackstone, Washington, Jefferson, all the Founders, and Scalia, Thomas, and Alito believed that homosexuality should be illegal–it depended on how they interpreted a few passages in the Bible, for most of them– if so, they were wrong. As our knowledge increases, we should not cling to old laws that do damage to the people made criminals by them.

    • Tawreos

What did a horse’s ass ever do to be compared to that POS?

Zero good comes from engaging these theofascists. Zero. Purely an ego exercise for both sides.

        • Tawreos

Part of the problem with them is they have remained unchallenged for far to long.

        • Silver Badger

Remaining silent will get us a quick ticket to the concentration camps.

    • Gustav2

      Yes, it should remain unchallenged.

      • another_steve

Educate the public but don’t engage the monsters.

You’re filling their bank accounts by engaging them. Making them rich – which, after all, is what they’re really after.

        • Gustav2

So, when and where is it appropriate?

          Everywhere.

        • JW Swift

A debate on Twitter IS for the benefit of the public, otherwise if JMG was only interested in arguing with just Fisher, then he’d do it via email.

So the Big Lie should not be challenged?

        • Gustav2

          Always.

  • Fisher knows full well that we throw IV drug users in prison. So yes, he wants to throw gay people in jail. But we should be grateful that it’s just prison and not murder that he suggests as a policy? this is the modern conservative for you.

And once again, an openly gay man (me) asks the question “WHAT ABOUT THE LESBIANS?” Whatever you’re doing girls, keep it up. Apparently it isn’t enough to piss off God.

    • Nick in Pasadena

True every time. You don’t have to look very far beneath the homo-hate to find the sexism. (Which is really these assholes’ barely disguised insecurity of their own masculinity.)

  • Reality.Bites

I for one agree that whatever happens to IV drug users in the criminal justice system should happen to Drudge.

    Repeatedly.

  • Silver Badger

So now gay people are comparable to IV drug users. Well, even then it’s better than being a child molesting evangelical. Or a wife beating southern baptist. I think. Having never used IV drugs, or molested children or beaten my wife, I can’t really know for sure.

    • Gustav2

You are still a sinner, even if you have never sinned.

          • Silver Badger

actually, Mom had 7 of us and once told me she had never had labor pains. She said it felt like she had a full bladder and bingo, she had another baby. If this is truly the case, it means that my siblings and I were born with original sin forgiven. You may send me money and I will pray for you.

          • Gustav2

You send “prayers” I will send “thoughts”

      • Karl Dubhe

The Nicean Creed includes the part “I ask forgiveness for sinning against you in thought, word and deed.” Might have clipped a bit out, whatever.

It’s the origin of the idea of Thoughtcrime. 🙂 Thanks Gawd.

        • Gustav2

Damn Roman bishops who make us say that even though it is BS and we are Protestants (Lutherans).

          • Karl Dubhe

Anglican, in my case. Well, apostate accurately. 🙂

I think I have that wrong, it’s another prayer that has that line in it… Ooops.

          • Gustav2

I don’t think Harry VIII was around in 325 AD.

          • Karl Dubhe

No, I meant that line’s not in the creed. 🙂

Although I do remember it from another part of that church’s nearly interminable service.

          • Gustav2

Lutheran pastor’s kid here. I always had a problem with the “Creed”

          • grada3784

            Not the creed. The Confiteor.

          • jonfromcalifornia

Yes, it’s called the “Confiteor” asking God for mercy and forgiveness. Nicene Creed defines the main Christian beliefs.

      • Snarkaholic

Well, the Bible Bangers say that even THINKING about doing something sinful is the SAME as doing it…
…and they think A LOT about gay sex!

        • Gustav2

          A mindful abomination.

    • Ken M

I wonder what his feelings are on other drugs. IV drugs barely scratch the surface of what can be considered an abusive drug.

Roy Moore and Brian Fischer are old white men set in their ways. They grew up in an era where religion ruled and WHITE Christians were in control. It’s sad they they are losing their majority. Goodbye and good riddance.

  • From the Heartland

Christians are taught that mankind was made in the image and likeness of God. If that is the case, Christians should not hate people for the way he made us. I’ve said this for years and said it to my father when I came out in the early 80’s. Dad, being raised Catholic, thought about it for a while and said it was good logic. The AFA and Judge Moore need to think about this before trying to re-criminalize homosexuality.

    • From the Heartland

And as a judge, Moore should know and understand that if the US Supreme Court makes a ruling that becomes the law of the land, he needs to obey that law. He didn’t on the 10 commandments memorial and he refuses to follow the current case law. He should be disbarred.

      • Friday

Moore’s rightfully an *ex-* judge, twice over because of those corruptible elected judgeships.

    • jmax

Exactly why it is soooo important for some Christians to believe that gay people are not made that way by God, but it’s a choice made by sinful people and they can choose not to be gay if they really wanted to. That absolves them from treating gays (or anyone else they disagree with) as equal in the eyes of God.

  • ceeenbee

The problem with your argument JoeMyGod is fischer doesn’t want 15M people imprisoned. He wants sodomites imprisoned. By definition:

Sodomy (/ˈsɒdəmi/) is generally anal or oral sex between people or sexual activity between a person and a non-human animal (bestiality), but it may also mean any non-procreative sexual activity.

So, in reality, fischer probably wants 100+ million people arrested, all enjoying blow jobs and non-procreatuve sex with wild, reckless abandon.

We must not forget our hummer loving, cunnilingus living straight sodomites in this equation.

As long as those seeking “Reparative Therapy” are of legal age, they can still get it. There have been NO laws implemented making it unavailable to anyone except minors.

    • SFBruce

As far as I know, the laws against “reparative therapy” only apply to licensed therapists, which doesn’t include the vast majority of ministers. So there’s nothing illegal for a parent to drag their unwilling gay progeny to their minister for “pastoral counseling.”

      • Ken M

Way too complex for Fischer’s listeners to grasp. It’s all or none.

      • canoebum

“Show me Johnny, where you think about being touched. Then I can show you on me. We’ll only do it to see how bad it is. Don’t tell your parents about this part”. Pastoral counseling….

  • SFBruce

Aside from Fisher’s muddled logic, he’s just wrong about one interesting detail: Clarence Thomas doesn’t believe homosexuality should be criminalized. He actually said so explicitly in, of all places, his dissent to Lawrence. He wrote, “I write separately to note that the law before the Court today ‘is … uncommonly silly.’ Griswold v. Connecticut, 381 U.S. 479, 527 (1965) (Stewart, J., dissenting). If I were a member of the Texas Legislature, I would vote to repeal it. Punishing someone for expressing his sexual preference through noncommercial consensual conduct with another adult does not appear to be a worthy way to expend valuable law enforcement resources.”

Religion, the world first and most wide spread mental illness.

    • Karl Dubhe

I think the origin of the idea wasn’t really a mental illness. Ages ago we had to be alert for signs in the bush that meant danger could be near. The spirits sent signs that warned of the hungry cats, bears or dogs that used to eat our ancestors. (we never were the best hunters, but we did get better)

But we’re humans, so the ancestors got carried away with the idea. After their (perhaps gay) relatives took care of the lions, tigers and bears.

  • Karl Dubhe

That’s nice; I think Religion should be criminalized.

As long as neither Brian nor I get what we want, everything will work out well.

  • What we’re seeing here is the death rattle of Christianity as it—as have countless other religions in man’s checkered past—slowly drifts into obscurity. I seriously doubt the ancient gods went without so much as a whimper from their followers as well; it’s just we don’t have first-hand accounts of the whining like we’re living through now.

    • Friday

Actually, they were thriving cultures before the Abrahamic monotheisms brutally suppressed them, often with the kind of violent persecutions Christians have largely projected on others, over some seventeen centuries, and their ‘missionaries’ are still trying.

  • kareemachan

“Do you know that bestiality, the relationship between man and beast is prohibited in every state?” Moore asked.

I do. And I know the story behind just why it is outlawed nationwide.
Because once upon a time, 2005 to be precise, it was actually legal in most states by the fact that it was not strictly illegal. Something to do with the idea being so outlandish and unthinkable nobody in the past ever thought of it. So, when somebody and their friend decided to film themselves performing sexual acts with a horse, one of them ended up dying as a result and the other couldn’t be convicted of anything more substantial than trespassing.
Rumour is that footage of the deceased individual known as “Mr Hands” and a horse exists online, though this footage is of a previous sexual encounter and not the one he died from.

    • Friday

Weirdly, at one point Texas actually *legalized* bestiality (as long as you own the animal) as a rider on an *anti-LGBT law.* I dunno if that’s still on the books.

    • The_Wretched

I missed that, which fed law? Mr. Hands i’ve heard of.

    • Reality.Bites

It’s not outlawed nationwide. There is federal legislation banning pornography involving bestiality.

It remains legal in 4 states and DC

Bestiality is legal in Texas and a number of republican controlled States. Typically they also have the lowest ages of consent (esp. with parental approval) and weakest rape laws. Make of all that what you will. But they really really think ‘homosexual sodomy’ is a really really big problem.

/cue ‘which one of these is only kind of the same’ & involves consenting adults.

  • Gigi

If anyone should endure forced conversion therapy it’s Talibangelists. We need to force them into becoming less hateful human beings.

  • Raising_Rlyeh

“Do you know that bestiality, the relationship between man and beast is prohibited in every state?”

Factually inaccurate. Last time I looked it up it wasn’t illegal in about 11 states to engage in bestiality. Might have changed since then, but apparently 11 states thought being gay was bad, but dog-fucking was ok.

    • Vira

In addition, thanks to modern research, our understanding of the nature of homosexuality is VERY different from what it was during the Bronze Age. Given what I’ve read of his thinking, Jefferson would be on our side had he had the knowledge of the subject available to us today.

Dear Reich Wing America, Religious people and assorted morons,

Forgive me my ignorance, but where exactly in the constitution of the United States is any kind of sexual right granted or implied? The Coultergeist, Ann Coulter, once said “there’s no constitutional right to homosexuality” to which I retorted “conversely, there’s no constitutional right to heterosexuality since sex, let alone sexual activity, is not even mentioned in the constitution.” Was I wrong? If so, please explain; if not, kindly shut the fuck up.

    Best regards,

Roy Moore AND Bryan Fischer are confused.

Bowers v Hardwick didn’t say sodomy SHOULD be criminalized. It said that in doing so, a state did not violate constitutional protections. Kennedy corrected that error in Lawrence. O’Connor added that equal protection applied. I don’t remember Scalia coming down FOR criminalization, just that it COULD be criminalized.

I can’t imagine what he thinks Alito has said.

  • Greg B.

The only thing I want to read about Bryan Fischer is his obituary.

Religiously backed hatred, animosity, and bigotry should be illegal and classified a ‘Hate Crime’. What this creature peddles is far worse than any reason he can create for why personal human relationships between consenting adults should be outlawed. Brian, we as a country have moved beyond that. Get the fuck over it already.

  • Skokieguy [Larry]

“Faith” believing in things that aren’t true or can’t be proven. Roy Moore believes bestiality is illegal in 50 states, it is not. How can he be sworn into Congress if he doesn’t have a basic understanding of law? Seems like he’s committed a crime the moment he says “I Do” to the oath of office.

Bestiality is completely legal in the following 18 states, districts, and territories:
Alabama; Arkansas; Washington, D.C.; Guam; Hawaii; Kentucky; Montana; Nevada; New Hampshire; New Jersey; New Mexico; Ohio; Texas; Vermont; Virginia; West Virginia; and Wyoming [Most of these states do not ban discrimination against LGBT]

Centers for Disease Control’s National Survey of Family Growth, it’s rapidly becoming a regular feature of hetero couples’ horizontal activities. The survey, released last year, showed that 38.2 percent of men between 20 and 39 and 32.6 percent of women ages 18 to 44 engage in heterosexual anal sex. Since only a portion of LGBT people engage in anal sex and we are a tiny percentage of the US population, that means that virtually all the anal sex is actually going on between heterosexuals.

    • Reality.Bites

According to fundies, it’s only sex when we do it.

@Bryan Fischer So….Native Americans should be “morally disqualified” from owning property? They were here in North America before our God-forsaken “white race” arrived. And what does that really have to do with Native Americans “resisting” converting to Christianity? Have those people ever been to a Pow wow? Each session I’ve ever attended is opened with prayer to the Christian God. They also do a moving ceremony to honor the USA flag, and each branch of the American Armed Forces.

  • wds

Just like Brian Fischer, Moore needs to do his homework – not that it matters to the knuckle dragging folks who’ll vote for him … but he’s slightly wrong claiming every state bans beastiality … “Eight states — Hawaii, Kentucky, Nevada, New Mexico, Texas, Vermont, West Virginia and Wyoming — and the District of Columbia still lack anti-bestiality laws.Apr 1, 2017”

  • Tammy Rainey

if we’re to cite the views of men who’ve been dead 200+ years, can we assume Bryan is butthurt we won’t let him keep slaves too?

The Founders were mostly all slave owners. And I doubt would have allowed their own wives to vote for them.
    It’s the 21st century.
People have learned a lot more about people like blacks, women and gay folks since the nation’s founding.
And it was an all white, all male SCOTUS until ’67, when Thurgood Marshall at least broke the color line.
And still only two blacks in the Supreme Court since IT’S founding.
