Michelle Obama: Donald Trump Leads With Fear

The Salt Lake Tribune reports:

When asked how she views the world “right now,” former first lady Michelle Obama had less of an answer and more of a gut reaction. She cringed and quietly groaned. “I don’t have much of a poker voice,” Obama said with a laugh.

Though she didn’t mention President Donald Trump by name — a leader who’s spent much of his early tenure trying to erase the legacy of her husband, former President Barack Obama — the former first lady did tell a Salt Lake City audience Thursday that “we are looking at two different administrations.” One, she said, was built on hope. The other is being led with fear.

“It isn’t just us first,” she said, a reference to Trump’s “America First” agenda. “We live in a big country and a big world. … You can’t just want to help someone in a hurricane and not make sure they can go to the doctor when they’re sick.”

Damn I miss her and her husband. It was so nice having adults in the White House.

Trump is a Nazi. He may not have been awhile back, but he is now.

    • Skokieguy [Larry]

Back when? When he was refusing to rent to blacks? When he refused to pay Polish immigrant workers?

Considering it seems his daddy was arrested at a Klan Rally, I think evidence is pretty strong he was always a Nazi.

    • FAEN

      He was always a Nazi.

If Obama had done a fraction of this shit, this country would be burning to the ground right now but I guess part of white privilege is being able to engage in all kinds of treasonous behavior and getting away with it because you’re orange instead of black.

      https://media.giphy.com/media/3og0IE5aUI0cb2C6dO/giphy.gif

      • Skokieguy [Larry]

I was thinking how interesting it would be for Obama to retweet something similar to the Trump golf ball, Hillary tripping video. No doubt his supporters would be foaming at the mouth and calling for him to be jailed for ‘threatening’ the President.

Obama could then say “hey you’ve all been trolled, I was proving a point” but Trump’s base is too dense and to cult-engaged to see the irony.

        • james1200

It’s ALL about race. So long as Trump doesn’t back down on the wall and he keeps attacking people of color, they’ll never leave his side. The scary thing is, the vast majority of them aren’t nazis, they’re regular people, who probably have people of color in their family or as friends but the tribalist connection they feel to Trump is still purely based on race.

          • Steverino

And of course, they project it all back on Obama as being the racist.

          • MonochromeMouse

The vast majority of Nazis were regular people who probably had Jews as friends and immigrants in their family but the tribalist connection they felt to Hitler was purely based on race and nationality.

If he had children with three different women, he wouldn’t have gotten elected dog catcher, let alone President.

I refuse to attribute any sort of strategy with donnie. Just how hard is it to gin up white fright when there’s an entire wing-nut-welfare industry dedicated to cultivating racism for clicks and ad $$s.

I agree with Ta-Nehisi Coates, something had to have already been present for so many whites across all classes to throw in for trump with such unrestrained glee.

      • LaChatSayWha

That Ta-nehisi Coates article was incredibly insightful.

        • Cuberly

It was, to such an extent I pre-ordered his new book which drops on Oct. 3rd.

I find myself mentally revisiting his Atlantic piece at least a couple times a day. Just from things popping in my head.

        • JCF

I loved his point that you can’t understand the opposition to ObamaCare (which was the same as RomneyCare) unless you see it as [censoring for JMG, Coates does not] “an {N word} President created {N word} healthcare”.

  • Skokieguy [Larry]

To Trump: You probably would be proud and happy to think Michelle is afraid of you. Trust me, she is NOT. A highly intelligent, polished, accomplished, scandal free, lawsuit free, beautiful, beloved former first lady is NOT afraid of you. She and her husband are everything you wish to be, other than that whole pesky ‘not white’ thingie.

She is talking about how you, everyone around you, and your party uses fear to appeal to your base, regardless of consequences. Instead of uplifting the country by talking about policies and plans and values, you talk about Mexicans are rapists and Muslims are terrorists and protestors should be beaten and police should rough up suspect. Fear is a tool of those without compelling ideas.

Okay Trump, I’m using too many words. Let me make it easy. Michelle just called you a LOSER. SAD!

  • vorpal 😼

    • JCF

She took a vacation or two! [Melania, jetting back and forth to Drumpf Resorts every weekend]

      • TampaDink

The wasteful Obama family made an annual holiday trip to Hawaii! That cost the taxpayers so much more than jetting to Palm Beach or NJ almost every weekend! We even paid for the first grandmother to travel with them! Life is so much better now that the American tax payers are only having to foot the bill for a family of 3 to travel….and to protect the 4 kids & their families.
        /sarcasm.

Trump has to tell us he’s classy, and when you have to tell someone you’re classy, you’re not.

    • Uncle Mark

Class, like many other attributes is self-evident. The fact that he has to tell us this, shows he’s desperately lacking. Just like he had to tell us that:
      – He’s very very rich
      – He’s very intelligent…smarter than his generals, smarter than most everyone
      – His hands, as well as something else are very big
      – He is one of the most honest people…”believe me.”
      – He has the best temperament……

OT: Finally! Someone perfectly summarizes what I’ve been in-artfully ranting about for months.

““These kinds of controversies will keep happening because the scale and expectations around how many employees are needed to oversee the content or ad programs is teeny compared to the number of ads being served,” says Kendra Albert, a lawyer and fellow at Harvard Law School’s Cyberlaw Clinic. “I think it’s true that often these companies could not have reached the scale that they reached without automating things that traditionally had a human in the loop.”
