Manafort Spox: Release The Wiretapping Transcripts

CBS News reports:

A spokesman responding on behalf of former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort issued a rare response, after CBS News confirmed Manafort was wiretapped during an investigation of the efforts of Russian operatives to influence the election. “If true, it is a felony to reveal the existence of a FISA warrant, regardless of the fact that no charges ever emerged,” Manafort spokesman Jason Maloni said in a statement released Tuesday.

“The U.S Department of Justice’s Inspector General should immediately conduct an investigation into these leaks and to examine the motivations behind a previous administration’s effort to surveil a political opponent. Mr. Manafort requests that the Department of Justice release any intercepts involving him and any non-Americans so interested parties can come to the same conclusion as the DOJ – there is nothing there.”

Manafort has reportedly been told to expect an indictment.

  • clay

Mr. Manafort was NOT President Obama’s political opponent.

  • safari

He can die in jail or turn on his co-conspirators and maybe get out some day.

    • bambinoitaliano

He and his family will live as long as he keep his mouth shut. That’s how the Russian mafia roll.

    • Judas Peckerwood

So both is out of the question, then?

  • That_Looks_Delicious

    Careful what you wish for.

  • bkmn

They can be released after your trial

    • David L. Caster

They can come out in court and probably will.

  • AtticusP

I can remember a time when people could call the Republicans “the party of personal responsibility” without breaking into laughter.

    • Todd20036

Hell, I can remember when they were considered anti Russian.
      Now look at them.

      • Steverino

Oh, they love autocracy. If it’s commie autocracy, it’s bad, but if it’s tsarist or fascist autocracy, it’s good.

      • Karl Dubhe

        Hey, their first president had it right on Russia;

β€œAs a nation, we began by declaring that ‘all men are created
equal.’ We now practically read it ‘all men are created equal, except
negroes.’ When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read ‘all men are
created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics.’ When it
comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make
no pretense of loving liberty – to Russia, for instance, where
despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocrisy.”

        Abraham Lincoln,

        Lincoln Letters

        • Steverino

Yes, indeed. That is the problem with Russia: whether it is Tsarism, or Communism (Stalinism), or Oligarchic Putinism, it is all the same old authoritarianism.

          Different shit, same odor.

          • jerry

And the problem with the modern GOP: they’ve reincarnated the Know-Nothings.

          • Nowhereman

I think it’s a problem with the whole world. Since I first started paying attention when JFK ran, I’ve thought that about 12-20 people own the whole planet.

          • Steverino

As Dolly Parton wrote in her lyrics to “9 to 5”: “It’s a rich man’s game…”

  • Judas Peckerwood

Naw, save it for the jury.

  • zhera

This is just theater. The spox know damn well that the transcripts won’t be released, so they’re using that to their advantage on the public arena.

    • Todd20036

Maybe, but the best response to that is, “Right after Trump releases his tax returns…”

      • Uncle Mark

I love that !! I was going to suggest “Don’t worry; the transcripts will be released at the proper time and at the proper legal venue….mwhaaa….haaaa…haaaa.”

  • Ninja0980

They can do that once his trial is over.

  • Reality.Bites

    Mueller Spox: get bent.

  • Lars Littlefield

Pity party for Manafort and his attorneys. He’s so grimy with corruption that the Feds don’t care what he demands. It’s about state’s sponsor of collusion/terrorism against the US Government.

  • OdieDenCO

“..interested parties can come to the same conclusion as the DOJ – there is nothing there.”

first, when did the DOJ exonerate manafort? my understanding is there were multiple warrants issued only the first was deemed unfruitful.

second, nice bluff, noway will the transcripts of a wiretap for an ongoing investigation be released. they can now claim the transcripts aren’t being released because – there is nothing there.

Can we audit the RNC to see how much of this money is also coming from Russia? Y’all just KNOW that Russia was funding more than just Trump !!

My guess is that the RNC is/was somewhat in bed with Russia, and they know that given Twitler’s reputation to skip out on the bill, that no good law firm will take his case…unless the RNC announces that they’re picking up the tab.

  • Stogiebear

“…it is a felony to reveal the existence of a FISA warrant….”

Does anybody else find it disturbing that there are laws that carry a felony conviction for a secret court system in our country?

  • tbj5

No way the FISA was okay’d to be leaked without a legal waiver or workaround being enacted.

And no way this wasn’t leaked intentionally.

This is Breitbart and Russia working together like always to distract from the real issue. That they had reason to repeatedly legally wiretap Manafort, and that Trump was recorded incidentally.

Let them try to distract. Mueller has this.
