REPORT: Trump Humiliated Sessions In Front Of Others, Called Him A Disloyal Idiot After Mueller’s Appointment

The New York Times reports:

Shortly after learning in May that a special counsel had been appointed to investigate links between his campaign associates and Russia, President Trump berated Attorney General Jeff Sessions in an Oval Office meeting and said the attorney general should resign, according to current and former administration officials and others briefed on the matter.

The president blamed the appointment of the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, on Mr. Sessions’s decision to recuse himself from the Justice Department’s Russia investigation — a move Mr. Trump believes was the moment his administration effectively lost control over the inquiry. Accusing Mr. Sessions of “disloyalty,” Mr. Trump unleashed a string of insults on his attorney general.

Ashen and emotional, Mr. Sessions told the president he would quit and sent a resignation letter to the White House, according to four people who were told details of the meeting. Mr. Sessions would later tell associates that the demeaning way the president addressed him was the most humiliating experience in decades of public life.

According to the Times, Trump called Sessions an “idiot” in front of the entire West Wing staff upon getting the news of Mueller’s appointment. Sessions then delivered a resignation letter but others intervened and talked Trump out of accepting it.

I would think standing next to a yard stick would be.

You have to assume that Session’s dislike of tRump is only superseded by his new found power to finally enact his racist and facist policies on America. Why else would he still be there?

    • I’m increasingly convinced FB and Twitter both are among the worst dangers to the country, in large part due to their unaccountability.

      • Gustav2

I used to be able to have discussions with people on our local newspaper’s site, but two or three Tea Bagging Trump Trolls control it with stuff from FB and Twitter that is a never ending, You first feel the need to correct them, then you just give up and leave.

Re FB, I knew we were in dangerous waters, when all sorts of entities start to drop (or never had in the first place) their websites and/or blogs, in favor of ONLY Facebook (ditto, the sites that require FB to comment).

    • KarenAtFOH

Just like mainstream media, $ trumps the wellbeing of the Republic. Hell, it seems to have trumped basic humanity.

      • Dorothy Rothchild

You can just fuck right off with your “mainstream media” bullshit. Right now journalists are the only ones holding this corrupt administration accountable.

        • John30013

And yet, in large part, they enabled Trump’s rise and eventual political victory. No one seriously denies that the TV MSM in particular were mesmerized by the “clown show” and gave Trump much more air time than his opponents (of either party), and failed to hold him and his campaign to the same standards as the other candidates. Ratings (and ad dollars) trumped journalism.

It’s definitely changed now, especially on MSNBC and several print media outlets. But large parts of the MSM were complicit–knowingly or not–in Trump’s victory.

          • FAEN

            Here here!

  • In other words, someone told Donald that if he fired Sessions in order to get rid of Mueller, the obstruction and abuse of power charges would only double and be guaranteed to stick.

I also suspect he’s been told something similar by senior GOPers in Congress.

    • Also, potentially, “If you fire Jeff, he’ll have no reason not to flip for the prosecutors and Senate committees and tell them everything he knows in exchange for immunity. Everything.

    • canoebum

I am so glad I have nothing to do with that odious corporation. I had a profile for a very short time, but after they turned down a legit ad from a marijuana legalization organization, I said enough of this crap. These people are no different than any other over-sized, bullying, rapacious, greedy corporation. Not only did I delete my account, I went the extra steps to completely remove my information from their system (I’m sure I’m still in there somewhere, but I took it as far as I could). I get no emails from them, no updates, no requests to rejoin, no invitations to participate at all. I can live with that.

      • Cuberly

Same here. I closed my account, wow, I think 4 years ago? But before I did I downloaded all my info and walked through the delete my info from their system process. How the hell they could ever prove to me they actually removed it is beyond me. We’re just supposed to believe them.

Google almost seems benign compared to the depths FB goes through to monetize every nuance and word associated with it’s users.

      • Priya Lynn

I understood Facebook won’t let you delete your account.

That’s one of the reasons why I never joined.

        • canoebum

You have to go like six pages in to find the complete delete function. They do an excellent job of hiding it.

    • SoCalGal20

      Fuck you, Zuckerberg!!!!!

      • Cuberly

This goes with the post I made a few days ago. There’s a reckoning for social media on the horizon.

Their f’d up response is because they know full well they had no control over the situation and they still don’t. Whether or not they’ve even engaged in an internal audit, sure seems they’re tight-lipped about that.

How the hell can algorithms have such depth of accuracy? I don’t think it’s possible. I mean look at Pepe, alt-right, the every changing language the white nationalists have used. So much of what they do online is coded in their own speak.

        • SoCalGal20

Zuckerberg better not even THINK of running for President at this point. Traitor.

          • Cuberly

They’ve GOT to be freaking the hell out behind the scenes right now. And every day, another revelation. BAD revelation.

            They’re fuuuuuuuuucked.

        • SoCalGal20

I bet if they had a team that just looked at, say, Breitbart comments and /r/The donald on Reddit they’d come up with lots of terms they could audit. But no. They would rather “crowdsource” enforcement and put it on the user to make complaints that fall on deaf ears (that’s especially true of twitter, I’m not sure how responsive FB is to user reports).

          • Cuberly

Primary goal for both FB and twitter is self-moderation. They can algorithm the shit out of it but that sure as hell doesn’t take the place of a pair of eyes and some research. I honestly don’t think it’s feasible to automate monitoring in a relatively open internet.

Do they really search the depths of reddit or 4Chan? Do they scan Gab groups and online video events? Seems to me they think the only solution is one more algorithm, and caution in how it potentially impacts monetizing information.

          • SoCalGal20

More algorithms = fewer employees = more money for Zuckerberg.

          • Cuberly

            BINGO!

Yep. It also meshes rather well with the dominate libertarian sensibility in tech circles. The inherent misanthropy wins out.

          • Cuberly

…..and…..how are they going to code a conscience?

I love the current obsession in upper tech circles re; the imminent dominance of AI. It’s like Charles Foster Kane pipe dreams. They’re so blinded by their supposed coding magnificence they feel they merit being the sooth-sayers of the future.

Problem is, for soothsayers they REALLY suck at developing algorithms capable of broader learning and evolving reasoning. Fuck, look at what FB has become, an unmanageable behemoth where they’re frantically back-tracking to put out fires.

I’ve maintained for ages that coders code for that particular moment in history and have ZERO concept of how and what they do will be utilized and exploited. They code for an instance and a desired outcome only.

  • From making fun of a handicapped reporter to asking where his ‘blacks’ are he did nothing but drop clues he was unfit for office but too many people voted for him anyway or voted for a pipe dream.

  • Gerry Fisher

If you thought you could conduct yourself with any level of professionalism, integrity, and dignity while working for tRump, then you are, indeed, an idiot. An arrogant idiot. tTrump told you who he was for A YEAR AND A HALF on the campaign trail (longer if you had read up on him or if you were from New York and witnessed his downfalls in past decades). I feel nothing for you. Any of you.

    • billbear1961

      only CONTEMPT

    • Gerry Fisher

I think that people like Sessions felt cocky that they’d seen every type of political animal in existence and could play the political game with the best/worst of them. What they didn’t seem to comprehend is that tRump is NOT a political animal; he’s of a different, dangerous species.

    • Barry William Teske

Kind of gives a whole knew understanding to the noun ‘lemming’.

Maybe Sessions will have an epiphany late one night, decide that throwing away his safe seat in the US Senate for this piece of shit in the Oval Office was a bad idea, and turn the tables on The Orange Menace. Trump is so witless he’d probably not notice any perfidy from Sessions until it was too late. The AG could easily start passing along information and even give testimony to the Special Counsel’s Grand Jury, and Der Herr would be none the wiser. Revenge is best served cold, as they say. Jefferson Beauregard does have his Southern Honor to defend.

      • Uncle Mark

That would be a lovely thought, however much like any Confederate, he’ll remain loyal to the losing side…plus this is his opportunity to persecute those folks in society, he’s been itching to kick for decades. I suspect that abuse from Donnie will only encourage more cruelty from the Sessions.

I do suspect, like any coward, who Delights in abusing others to compensate for his shortcomings, that when Mueller puts enough pressure on Sessions, he’ll flip faster than Marcus Bachmann in a bath house.
