REVEALED: Senate Candidate Roy Moore Has Appeared Five Times On “Death To Gays” Pastor’s Radio Show

CNN reports:

Roy Moore, a Republican candidate for US Senate in Alabama, has appeared multiple times on a radio show hosted by a controversial pastor who preaches that the biblical punishment for homosexuality is death.

Moore, the former chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, is in a runoff primary race against fellow Republican and incumbent Sen. Luther Strange. Moore is a hardline conservative, who made his name in Alabama by championing social and cultural issues popular with the religious right.

Moore has appeared on pastor Kevin Swanson’s Generation Radio at least five times and as recently as this February, a CNN KFile review finds. Swanson is a Colorado-based pastor who on several occasions has preached that the biblical punishment for homosexuality is death. Most recently, Swanson tied Hurricane Harvey in Houston to the city having “a very, very aggressively pro-homosexual mayor.”

PREVIOUSLY ON JMG: Swanson first earned national headlines in 2015 by calling for the execution of homosexuals shortly before introducing Ted Cruz to speak. A Cruz spokesman later expressed regret for the appearance, but only after weeks of furor from the media. Last year, Swanson declared that the Pulse massacre victims got what they deserved because “God gives up on sinners.” In May of this year, Swanson warned that the goal of public schools is to turn children into “transgender communists.” Last month Swanson declared that pro-LGBT public schools should all be “burned to the ground.” Last week Swanson declared that God would spare the country from Hurricane Irma if the Supreme Court would immediately reverse their same-sex marriage ruling.

By a bigger margin than he would have otherwise.

  • Ninja0980

This will only help him in Alabama.

  • bambinoitaliano

So he hasn’t make it big to be with Faux sNooze yet?

  • Elagabalus

And I just read that Moore is receiving the backing of Mercer money via Breitbart. Nice people.

  • FAEN

    What a surprise. NOT!

  • That_Looks_Delicious

    In Alabama, that’s a plus.

    • BudClark

I believe you might have meant “PUS.”

      • Snarkaholic

        (I’ve missed you.)

  • Treant

Which makes him a shoo-in in the state of Alabama. Let’s not kid ourselves, it’s one where the Dems should be evacuated and the rest nuked to dust.

    • swimboy

Can’t we just revoke statehood for MS and AL? Turn them back into territories and then let them go bankrupt like PR?

      • Treant

I think we have to get them to secede. One more liberal President should do it.

Unlike last time, we don’t allow them back, not even when the cannibalism starts. Er, gets worse.

        • OdieDenCO

god no. then we’d have to invade to stop the flow of radical christian terrorist.

          • Treant

Eh, you’re right. Nuking it to glass is the only solution.

      • Craig Howell

Those two states (among others) subverted Reconstruction after the Civil War, instituting virtual peonage for blacks and denying them all civil rights. So let’s bring back Reconstruction now, kick out their despicable representatives in Congress and their grotesque state government, and this time let’s get Reconstruction right!

      • P J Evans

This guy Treant was such a total dick to me for no reason. I don’t know why you’re even talking to him.

  • Matt

I wonder how many times they ‘did it’ when he was there…

  • Rex

One more appearance should put him over the top.

  • JWC

There is something inherently wrong when a dirty little crooked man like this can legally be knocked down several times and still comes back. Its neither resiliance, righteousness or fortitude Its a sick agenda and a cancer in the state of Alabama Home of Jeffy Noregaurd Sessions. There is a whole vein of corruption there

  • Steven B

Does anyone think that this revelation makes one bit of difference to the people who are likely to vote for this asshole?

  • Natty Enquirer

Well, I’m definitely not voting for him now.

  • bkmn

Just have to hope that after he wins he winds up in some scandal that takes him down

  • Bj Lincoln

I don’t understand how the people of AL think he is good for anything. Why would they keep voting for a man who is such a hater and thrown off the bench twice?! Is the state full of backward facing right wing conservative bigots they don’t see a problem?

    • Ninja0980

    • Treant

      Spite and yes, respectively.

No, seriously, they think they’re pissing off liberals or something and that makes the ineffective government and wholesale theft you already know is coming worth it somehow.

      • Cuberly

Like that sub-group of trump voters that said they voted for him because the elites were mocking them.

Yep, perfect reason to vote for someone, revenge. (sigh)

        • BudClark

“Gonna GIT me them damned liberal rich elite whities (this said by WHITE people, not BLACK PEOPLE), ’cause they’re the reason I live on welfare in a shack back in the hills and don’t got no fancy god-damned edukashun, on account of all them god-damned queers a-teachin’ in our skools! First the ni**ers tooken all our jobs; then the god-damned greasy wetbacks. MAKE ‘MERICA *WHITE* KKKonservative KKKristianist KKKultists agin, or I’m goin’ to have to get out muh shootin’ iron!”

I think the above pretty much sums up the mind (?) set of the Deep South. Why, oh why, couldn’t Lincoln let them STAY seceded, and / or the JUST gods and goddesses wash them all out into the Gulf with more hurricanes.

Hmmm … I wouldn’t eat ANYTHING out of the Gulf after THAT ()!

I can say all this because I grew up in the Deep South, hated it, escaped at 17, and never went back.

If you don’t believe all this, stop for gas sometime in the rural South (if you must).

      • greenmanTN

I forget the exact quote, but it was something like “Trump supporters would eat his shit so long as they got to breathe in a Democrat’s face afterward.”

    • Librarykid

Hate, bigotry and stupidity are worn like halos there (and many other places up to and including the White House).

    • bkmn

Largely white population which has church drilled into their heads before they are even born. And they do their best to discourage minorities from voting which helps maintain white control

    • Skokieguy [Larry]

AND is taking their money, over and over, to defend against his unconstitutional actions. Alabama, THIS is why you can’t have nice things.

    • Stev84

The same way they kept voting for George Wallace

    • When humans are suffering, they require someone to look down on as less than them to feel better about themselves. And so we have an entire society who buys into racism, misogyny, hatred of any religion that isn’t the one they “practice”. And those suffers vote in people who reflect their world view. It’s a terrible cycle that I don’t know how the human race can break.

  • Dagoril

Only five times? Damn hippie liberal!

  • TimCA

Ted Swanson is just one of several genocidal ‘go-to’ religious figures that contemporary GOP office holders solicit for support. It’s scary that we had, and every indication will have again, main stream GOP political contenders courting people who advocate the physical extermination of LGBT people.

  • AtticusP
  • Adam Stevens

For anyone who would vote for this douche, this is a pro, not a con.

    • Ninja0980

The Foundation for Moral Order is Roy Moore’s Fundation run by his wife. They make a fortune spouting hate to the literal morons that live in Alabama. I mean it’s the second poorest state in the country! Snakes, klansman, and nooses reign supreme there. A little deeper digging may find the klan history in Roy Moore’s past.

    • MBear

  • Stev84

People going on about the Ten Commandments thing as his worst offense. But he also said in a court decision that the state has the power to execute gay people. So course he doesn’t have a problem appearing on that show

    • Ken M

I guess AL doesn’t have any preachers like that. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA : )

  • SFBruce

No surprise here, since Moore agrees with him. In a 2002 opinion, Moore wrote homosexuality is “abhorrent, immoral, detestable, a crime against nature and a violation of the laws of nature and of nature’s God.” He goes on to say the state “carries the power of the sword, that is, the power to prohibit conduct with physical penalties, such as confinement and even execution.” (Emphasis mine.) In 2003, he was removed from the office of Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court over that 10 Commandments monument, and since that time, the people of Alabama returned him to that very office, with full knowledge of what he believes.

Tragically, this isn’t a mistake on Moore’s part; it’s a campaign strategy which will work in Alabama.

    • JWC

Just google the 10 most corrupt people in Alabama and 8 are the top legislators

  • JWC

The Senate hasn’t had a good “screaming Southern idiot” in a while. The fools in AL truly think he can make a difference at the federal level. If more people would turn out to vote instead of not caring then blaming those who do, he wouldn’t get in. I am a little surprised that Trump’s support of the other guy hasn’t had a stronger effect though.

  • MT YVR

What amuses me, darkly, is that shits like this get knocked down and come back and we just stare. While in a recent comment section around Hillary there were strong discussions about “one strike and sit down”.

It’s interesting. Not along the Dem/Republican lines just… we have two classes of people in the public eye. One get one and only one shot at things and if it fucks up : screw em. The other : take as many shots as you like at (whatever).

    • Lizard

      “…and we just stare.”

Partially because we expect people to have some sense of personal shame. Silly us–they’re Republicans. Of course they have no shame.

  • MBear

    Is anyone surprised

  • Lizard

In a 2015 interview, when an announcer asked if gay people should be literally put to death, he dodged the question.

Moore has been removed from his post for not following the law. Twice. No one in their right mind would think he actually gives a shit about the Constitution. And yet he’s going to be elected.

…I’ll be right back. I need another drink.

    • JWC

i solved that I went to a medical warehouse and got a tree Hook up the Scotch and do a drip all day

The bible has a death sentence for more crimes than Draco did.

    /maybe, I don’t know for sure. Nor do I care. 🙂

    • JWC

      • Karl Dubhe

They’d probably think I was talking about Draco Malfoy, anyhow…

  • TheManicMechanic

    Because StoopidBama.

  • KevInPDX

OK, that’s just not an accurate interpretation of the bible.. Man sex (lady sex too) rises to the sin level of eating shellfish and wearing garments made of different fabrics. No death penalty there. There are folks out there who know the book and know this is not accurate. Why isn’t this douche bag shouted down from inside their own tent? I guess I am naïve?

    • JWC

Cuz verses from the Holly Bibble are cherry picked Now son ya gotta be knowin that

    • Because you actually have to READ the bible to know what it says. The vast majority of church goers don’t read their bibles, they are merely pious props.

  • andrew

The Bible is not the moral guide even for hateful extremists like Swanson. While he uses the bible to reinforce his hate of homosexuals by pointing out that it calls for the death penalty for homosexuals, he ignores the fact that the “Holy” Bible also calls for the death penalty for anyone who works on the Sabbath, commits adultery, blasphemes, engages in sorcery, curses their parents, worships gods other than Yahweh and other “offenses.” These right wing extremists use the Bible as a cafeteria, choosing to quote the things that reinforce their hatred and bigotry and ignoring the things that condemn their own actions or those of their friends and followers.

  • Carrie Scott

As an Alabama native let me say I voted for the Democratic candidate Jones. But unfortunately low vote information or God complex. Moore will win. Dog help us

  • Dot Beech

Look at the stooped shoulders on that S.O.B. I’ll wager he’s got a big fat pear shaped ass to go with them.

Of course, these are not the most cogent points to make about this awful man, but I want no stone unturned when it comes to this vile man.

  • Halou

Gee. I wonder what his civil rights policy is going to be. /s

  • Mikey

I wonder if Swanson realizes that the same passage that “condemns gays to death” also condemns to death someone with imperfect eyesight who looks upon the Bible, or eats pork, or wears two types of cloth, or cuts his hair, etc….

  • Alpha 50327

You’re reporting like it’s a bad thing for him. That’s good for +30 in the primary and +20 in the general election. The only thing better would be if he could campaign with Resurrected Hitler. He’s already measuring his senate office for new drapes.

  • Paul Hard

Remember, some of us from Alabama put him out of office for ethics violations!

  • JCF

    He’s obviously disqualified…

….just kidding! This is Alabama. Equally unbelievable: that the Rethugs would refuse to seat him, for “palling around” w/ this pro-murder TERRORIST.

  • Gene Perry

The thought that this man could become a Senator … scary. & sad.

  • dagobarbz, fine Italian shoes

I drove through Alabama when I left the Army, with a redtailed hawk named Faith riding shotgun on her custom perch.
    What stayed with me, every damned gas station monkey said one of two things;
“We used to shoot them chicken hawks,” and, “Bet that keeps the N_____s outta your car.”

Eugh. Couldn’t wait to GTFO of there!

  • Well, the biblical punishment for lying is cutting out the tongue, so why does this “pastor” still have his?
