Sen. John McCain Blasts Trump On DACA Reversal

CNBC reports:

Republican Sen. John McCain denounced President Donald Trump’s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program shortly after Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced it. McCain, R-Ariz., called Trump’s decision “the wrong approach” to immigration policy.

“I strongly believe that children who were illegally brought into this country through no fault of their own should not be forced to return to a country they do not know,” McCain said in a statement.

“The 800,000 innocent young people granted deferred action under DACA over the last several years are pursuing degrees, starting careers and contributing to our communities in important ways.”

  • Jonathan Smith

I still DO NOT like the man.

    • Lakeview Bob

I will not disagree with you.

    • Treant

It might be because he never follows through. So you may not like him because he lies. A lot.

    • Jamie Brewer

When he tried to pass Palin off as a viable VP in 2008 McCain lost any respect I ever held for him. I was heartened by his vote on the ACA but that one act did not erase the “respect deficiency” in my book.

    • Todd20036

McCain is the reason Trump ran in the first place.

He made it ok for complete morons to run for the WH

McCain may be smart enough, but Palin certainly wasn’t

  • Tawreos

John, stop talking and start acting. You want to stand against Trump? Then you need to vote AGAINST him not with him.

    • jimbo65

I know right? Why does he even bother chiming in? He’s just a constant bitch fest. All whining and no action.

      • another_steve

Nothing tends to focus the mind like a death sentence.

In the time remaining for him, I expect McCain to continue to be a vocal opponent – by word and votes – of the orange monster.

    • Tomcat

His last vote was a big one against trump so pick your battles better.

      • Tawreos

1 vote does not an opponent make.

        • justmeeeee

He saved Obama’s ass, admit it.

          • canoebum

Mr. Obama’s healthcare was not on the line in that vote. Ours was.

  • MikeBx2
    • Lazycrockett

and Drumpf has an enemy to go after now.

      • Ernest Endevor

        That’ll be a departure.

      • Bluto

If you’re referring to President Obama, I think he’s out of shits to give.

    • Treant

Huh, and more retweets and likes in four minutes than most of Trump’s Tweets ever get. πŸ™‚

  • james1200

At what point are we going to OD on Trump? How are we not as a society completely mentally deranged after a year of nothing but him in the news?

    • Skokieguy [Larry]

That’s the point. Outrage fatigue to create numbness and disengagement.

      • james1200

That’s how he got elected: the deluge of horrible news about him didn’t have much of an effect because it was too much and too ridiculous to process. It might happen again during the midterms and in 2020, too.

    • Ernest Endevor

Couldn’t agree more. The constant yap-yap-yap is exhausting. Plus, he’s so boring. They’re all worthless. But as Larry the Skoke points out, that is sort of the point. It’s only going to get worse. Somehow we have to stay engaged and hope the pee tape gets here soon.

    • Phillip in L.A.

I think it’s almost as easy as that. If no one is talking about him, he will lose whatever infinitesimally-small interest he had in being Prez’nit–if he ever had any at all–and find another shiny bauble on which to unleash his foul, vulgar, ignorant, mentally ill, tiny-digited, and dangerously foolish grift.

      J.M.G.–this means YOU, too! :-]

  • Treant

Honey, honey, we’ve been over this. Actions speak louder than words. Words are, in fact, not substantive at all, which is why verbal contracts don’t count.

Vote for protection for the Dreamers and I’ll believe you mean it. Until then? Shut the fuck up, I’m tired of the “maverick” meme without any actual support.

    • zhera

It’s quite simple really. Did McCain do anything to protect the DREAMers during Obama’s years? Did he propose a bill, did he fight for their rights in any way?

If the answer is no then it’s clear that McCain is only jumping on the Empathy Train because the repeal of DACA has backfired.

All of GOP see this as an opportunity to negotiate with Dems when it comes to funding the wall, healthcare, tax reform, etc. Wedge that fucker, GOP!

      • Treant

Given the fractures in the Republican caucus, I’m pretty sure the Dems (who are relatively crack free) won’t take too many wedges. Some Dems are required to pass any budget since the Tea Party won’t. πŸ™‚

      • That_Looks_Delicious

Well, on this issue I think McCain has some credibility because he was one of the “gang of 8” that tried to get comprehensive immigration reform passed back in the Bush years. It was the House Republicans that killed it.

        • zhera

Depends on what he did during Obama’s years. Was he being a human being or was he an obstructionist? (I don’t know.)

          • Adam King

He was a nasty, bitter sore loser.

        • Phillip in L.A.

I will agree, if you add the word “slight” before “credibility”; however, as others have noted in abundance, it’s all just more meaningless words now

  • Ninja0980

And yet, when you return, you will vote to confirm right wing hacks to seats that should have been filled under Obama but weren’t and do nothing to help pass the Dreamer Act that should have been passed under Obama.
Actions speak louder then words, period.
And your actions show you will choose party over country, again and again.

    • (((GC)))

Indeed, Senator McCain. SHOW US you mean it, SHOW US you are choosing party over country. For starters, speak and vote against tRump’s kleptocrat enablers for judgeships and other positions.

  • RealityBass

McCain is always expressing strong concerns, and then rolling over when it’s time to vote. He just doing it again. Yawn.

  • Butch

You’re still all hat and no cattle. With one exception you’ve unfailing voted with him. Show us you mean it.

    • Adam King

Not even a hat, just hot air.

  • boobert

      • Anastasia Beaverhousen

“We’ve even asked Caitlyn Jenner to decorate the interiors!”

      • Adam King

We will concentrate the population of Dreamers into special camps. Very orderly.

    • Orderly process my ass.

      – What happens to those currently enlisted in the armed forces? How is it not a problem when someone may have an enlistment lasting longer than their DACA authorization status?
      – Are 800,000 people living in this country now who may not even speak any language other than English supposed to do other than become domestic refugees?
      – Suppose a DACA recipient’s permit is to expire next week? Can they apply for renewal or are they fucked as of TODAY?

And yeah, this sadistic administration as much as said they were willing to use these DACA recipients’ adherence to the law in providing constant ID and current address info to potentially round up and deport them. That’s as heartless as it gets.

  • Rebecca Gardner

Well I made a mistake and turned off the Xbox and turned on the news and now I’m completely enraged. Trump is a monster.

I’ve always suspected that cat vocalizations are more subtle and more complicated than most of us think. Cat caregivers know that the vocalizations can be quite different depending on the circumstances.

I assume scientists have studied this.

            Thanks. πŸ˜‰

I’ve studied her – my Maine Coon has three distinct vocalizations (the one she uses depends on her mood and the time of day), all of which roughly translate to:

Hey, Nancy Boy… You gonna feed me soon? You want me to take another bite out of that fuckin’ embroidered pillow your dead mother left you?

          Flagged and reported

  • Will he now back congressional action to legalize and grant citizenship Dreamers? Wealthy foreigners routinely come here to give birth to babies who automatically become US citizens/dual citizenship. The Dreamers deserve a way.

    • Lazycrockett

The problem is 2 groups of the GOP, tea party and conservatives is fine with getting rid of the dreamers, only the business GOP wants them to stay and they are going to need DEM help to get something done. Problem is Drumpf wants DACA replacement to contain funding for his damn Wall. The DEMS arent going to play with that. Its a clusterfuck.

      • Another group doesn’t want them gone either: The U.S. military.

Can you imagine it: “Hi soldier. We’re deploying you to Afghanistan for the next six months. However we might not be flying you home afterwards. Sorry.”

        • -M-

He’s been a horror for the military. One thing after another for them:
‘Fuck you and your Arab informants, Muslim ban.’
‘Fuck you and your immigrant family, deport them.’
‘Fuck your lives, we’re at war with everyone.’
‘Fuck transgender soldiers and everyone who depends on them, kick them out.’
‘Fuck your dead, Donnie likes people who don’t crash, drown, or get shot.’
‘Fuck Dreamer soldiers and veterans, deport them too.’

  • Lazycrockett

    • I have a relative in the panhandle…hope she’ll be okay. But a colleague of mine is closer to Miami, and he’s kinda freaking out.

The highest danger will be in the forward right quadrant. Strongest winds, and the direction (the storm rotates counterclockwise) means forward onshore winds when it hits land, which means the worst storm surge.

Here’s a stupid question…If, as Trump & Sessions suggest, DACA was unconstitutional when Obama did it, how is it going to suddenly be constitutional when the house/sentate enact essentially the same program? And why would I believe that the states suing over it now will change their minds later?

Is this another example of unconstitutional because of presidenting-while-black?

    • Reality.Bites

I think they are claiming its provisions are beyond what a President can do by executive order. I have no idea if there’s any validity to that claim. This is way into provisions of Constitutional law in areas where I don’t have the slightest knowledge.
