Kris Kobach: Yes, I’m On Breitbart’s Payroll

The Kansas City Star reports:

Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach is now a regular columnist on the far-right news site run by President Donald Trump’s former chief strategist. Kobach, a candidate for Kansas governor who is running on a platform of combating illegal immigration, published his first article for in June — a piece that tied refugees to terrorism.

Four of Kobach’s seven pieces published so far have focused on immigration policy, including his Wednesday column which was marked “Exclusive.” He called for Trump to end Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, an Obama administration policy that has allowed people who entered the country illegally as children to avoid deportation and obtain work permits.

“I get paid for my columns … just like you’re paid,” Kobach said when asked about compensation without specifying the amount he receives per column. Kobach repeatedly rebuffed his Democratic opponent’s calls to release his tax returns in the 2014 secretary of state’s race and disclose his income from sources outside his official duties.

Quaint, that used to be called bribery. IIRC.

Politicians shouldn’t get paid to write advertising copy.

    • Gustav2

Now, now, he is so busy denying Democrats the right to vote he doesn’t have time to write a book, so he spews his nonsense in short articles on Breitbart.

      • Karl Dubhe

I’d like it if someone who’s an expert in writing would have the chance to compare his earlier works to what is published by BB under his name.

I’m willing to bet that there’s some significant differences between the styles and words used.

      • Ninja0980

The scary and sad thing is that in Kansas, he doesn’t need to do that to win.

    • JCF

It used to be called propaganda! Politicians on press payrolls.

  • Gigi

I once dated a guy who looked like Kobach. He eventually got married and had four kids. Now he’s divorced and living with a guy who’s twenty years younger than him. True story.

    • netxtown

he may be smiling, but it doesn’t take a rocket science to see there is no happiness there. Hate and revenge is all I see.

      • Rambie

He looks so republican, a face made to be punched

    • JW Swift

      Yeah, what a waste.

    • Keith D Plane

All I want to is punch this fucker over and over and over

  • Friday

It seems like it’s time to make it official in the law that government officials *aren’t* supposed to be part of the disinformation of the American public.

  • Proud MOFO Beaner (bkb)

Just another white devil and a perfect argument for post-birth abortion

  • Tawreos

It looks like we need a law that candidates for any office need to release their tax returns so we know exactly who’s payroll they are on.

    • David Milley

  • DaddyRay

Elected state officials should not be allowed to do this – this is not normal

  • bambinoitaliano

    A Breitbart Paid Troll.

  • Gerry Fisher

Kansas, you’ve been going down the tubes in recent years. Please don’t vote for more of the same.

  • Acronym Jim

If he’s getting paid, he actually works for the Mercers.

    • The_Wretched

Bingo. It’s not clear breitbart makes money the regular way.

  • worstcultever

If Dems were razor-focused on the one thing they should be – puke voter suppression, & with a nonstop rage machine akin to Fux noise – this piece of criminal dogshit Kobach would be scared to show his face in public

    • Ninja0980

Yup, Democrats are making a major mistake not making voter suppression their top issue.

      • The_Wretched

      • JCF

        Who says they aren’t?

  • Will Parkinson

    No conflict here, thank goodness.

  • LatrinaDiBucca

What might we learn if there were more stringent reporting requirements (and/or an investigation) for outside income sources for Supreme Court justices. We already know that Scalia was on the take.

  • The_Wretched

Kobach belongs in jail for crimes against the citizenry. He’s actively trying to bring back Jim Crowe and enhance systemic racism.

  • JWC

You expect GOP to change. Then you have a supposed responsible person like this man , spewinf Falsehood and lies on Breitbart When is the 5th estate going to get hold of its self and stop believing in, reporting on and reapeating fake news

  • KevInPDX

I’m confused! Illegal immigration is this dudes issue and he’s from Kansas?!

    • Keith D Plane

You should do this research on this douchebag. He really is a special shitstain from KS

  • Halou

“I get paid for my columns … just like you’re paid,”

The difference of course is that the people at Kansas City Star are not elected political officials and are not running a nationwide scheme to purge voter rolls of anybody of a different racial / religious / political affiliation.

  • andrew

Kansan Kris Kobach, wonder if folks refer to him as KKK for short?

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

So it’s now a matter of record, not that there was any doubt before, IS an official arm of the Republican Party’s Far Reich Wing and is acting as it’s propaganda tool. Noted.

  • Franciscan

The Star should have described it as “the far-right ‘news’ site …”
