Trump To Announce End To Obama’s DACA Program

Fox News reports:

The fate of DACA looms as the border wall debate heats up. President Trump is expected to announce plans to end President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which had halted the deportation of certain young illegal immigrants, a senior administration official told Fox News.

The announcement could come as early as Friday. Trump promised to terminate the program during the presidential campaign. According to the official, Trump is expected to announce the program’s end but still allow the so-called “dreamers” currently in the program to stay in the U.S. until their work permits expire – which, for some, could be as long as two years.

The program, also known as DACA, was formed through executive order by Obama in 2012 and allows for certain people who came to the U.S. illegally as minors to be protected from immediate deportation. Recipients are able to request “consideration of deferred action” for a period of two years which is subject to renewal.

Now I’m looking forward to more positive news about that coup story.

  • Mark Née Fuzz

    Because Obama, that’s why

  • Judas Peckerwood

Because of course — it wouldn’t be another day of the Trump Administration without some senseless cruelty.

  • David in Tucson

This is when I start to think the president should have no independent executive power. But, while substantially disabling a bad president, that would hamstring a good president.

    • AmeriCanadian

A good president would know how to rally members of congress and the public to get behind his ideas. You know, one that has actual leadership qualities.

  • So in other words, we’re now officially at the “planned mass deportations” stage of this already evil and malignant presidency.

    • Tawreos

We have been there, it just doesn’t get the media attention because Trump sucks all that up with his bullshit antics.

    • canoebum

Young people who were babes-in-arms when their parents carried them across the border are to be sent to a country of which they have no memory, know no one and have no means of support. This is pure evil.

There is no explanation other than hate and revenge. Hope the GOP is cool with losing the Latino vote forever.

    • Todd20036

I think they managed that with that proposition in California.
But any inroads W or HW tried with the Latino community is now officially dead.
A few Latino quislings will still vote republican, just as there are gay and black quislings who will do the same.
But any area with Latinos is gong to go democratic for a long time to come

We can’t LET him do that, abuse his pardon powers in that way, use them to OBSTRUCT justice and place himself and his cronies ABOVE THE LAW (and there are still charges that can be brought at the STATE level which he has no power to pardon).

      • David Walker

Between the state level charges and the inability to plead the 5th amendment in federal cases, it’s something. It’s not enough by any stretch of the imagination, but it is something.

Can’t you do something to make this shit go away? Please?

    • billbear1961

Electoral-Vote said WEEKS ago that if you let him use his pardon powers in this way, the rule of law is GONE: there would be nothing to stop his henchmen from committing crimes for him, even under his ORDERS. He’d just say: “Do this for me! Don’t worry–if you get caught, I’ll pardon you!”

That would be an obscene FARCE!!

          • Beagle

Agreed — I’d quibble on “overwhelming.” On the other hand, it’s a subjective standard — there’s a gray area where reasonable people can disagree.

Um, with enough gerrymandering, it certainly could be enough

Trump, the complete and total shit head.

Sort of related: we had representatives of the true and white american way in San Juan County show up yesterday. They wanted me to sign a petition to recall our local state senator because he supposedly wants to turn the County as well as the entire State into a “sanctuary for illegals”!! Oh, my. The horror. My partner, who is a Mexican national living legally in the USA with the right Visa and papers came to the door and stood behind me. I asked him, “Have you heard about a petition to repeal our state senator? These folks seem to think he’s trying to turn the Behave State into a sanctuary for illegals.”

My partner came forward and calmly said in his deep and warm masculine voice,”Yeah. It’s not true. He just supports the DREAM Act. Anyone who doesn’t know that is an ignorant racist fuck wad.” (I taught him the term fuck wad. I’m so proud.)

We both laughed and stared at the reps of the true and white american way. “Well,” I continued, “do you have anything else you folks would like to talk about?”

The little posse (three old mormon men from Monticello, UT) didn’t hide their cranky disgust as they turned and walked back to their Suburban. I followed them as they drove down the winding driveway and made certain they saw me lock my gate as they drove away.

    They’ll be back. I’m sure.

He is undermining the rule of law by repeatedly obstructing justice! His pardon of the concentration camp commandant Arpaio sends the signal to racists in law enforcement that their violations of citizens’ civil rights will be pardoned, another BLOW to the rule of law, this AFTER giving aid and comfort to NAZIS who terrorized Charlottseville, where one counter-protester was murdered by a Nazi and 19 others injured!

Even without knowing exactly what Mueller will uncover, THIS is enough to DEMAND his immediate removal from power! (He may use his pardon powers corruptly to pardon all the henchmen who colluded with Russia to STEAL the Oval Office for him! This CANNOT be allowed if American democracy is to survive!!)

He is also a proven pathological LIAR, which makes him morally unfit to hold the presidency; AND he is neglecting his duties, deliberately crippling the Executive branch by leaving vacant 80% of posts that need to be filled, not even, in 62% of cases, selecting nominees for the Senate to consider!!

And he has NOT divested from his businesses–he’s using the presidency to ENRICH himself!!

Trump Could Face CEO Backlash on Immigration Plan

“President Trump could trigger a furious response from corporations and some members of his own staff if he green-lights a plan under consideration at the White House to end DACA, the Obama-era policy that suspends deportation of some undocumented workers who arrived as children,” Mike Allen reports.

“I’m told some top CEOs, including leaders in tech and retail, plan to be tough and vocal if Trump ends the policy. But they’re keeping quiet for now because they fear antagonizing him on a question that could have massive implications for their workforces.”

    • Marty Hodas

Deporting people who came to the US as children is a pretty nasty thing to do, but that’s not why CEOs are against it. Corporate America wants a huge labor surplus so they can artificially drive wages as far down as possible. I think that’s just as despicable as deporting Dreamers.

  • Tons of regulations have been overturned either because they were only by Executive Order, or because they were regulations late in Obama’s second term that Congress could repeal with a vote under the 1996 Congressional Review Act that doesn’t allow filibusters.

The GOP has shown they don’t know how to govern in part at least because they don’t stand for anything except don’t tax the rich and don’t regulate anything (except your bedroom). If Democrats retake Congress and the White House, as much of these need to be enshrined into law to make it much harder for the GOP to dismantle.

Every so often I have a Sunday lunch at a local Waffle House whose best employee is a DACA dreamer, a great kid named Fidel. He speaks perfect English, has a wonderful hard-working cheerful attitude, cooks and waits tables (unusual at a Waffle House) and works 20 hours a week during his high school junior (and now senior) years to save money for college. He wants to study psychology at the local tech school, then transfer to a 4-year college, but says he has to pay extra tuition over his high school friends because he’s not a citizen. He doesn’t complain about that, he’s just working to save the college tuition money he’ll need.
