SAN FRANCISCO: Organizers Cancel Tomorrow’s Hate Rally, Say They Fear Violence From Counter-Protesters

The San Francisco Chronicle reports:

The leader of a right-wing group that had planned a Saturday rally at Crissy Field in San Francisco said Friday that he had decided to cancel the event and hold a news conference instead.

On Facebook Live, Joey Gibson of Patriot Prayer said the news conference would be held at 2 p.m. at Alamo Square in the Western Addition. He said the same speakers who were going to appear at Crissy Field would be there.

Gibson and other supporters appearing with him on the Facebook feed said they’d changed their plans because of fears that violent protesters using “black bloc” tactics would attend their Crissy Field rally. They also said the speakers and bands slated to perform at the rally had been “harassed.”

“I am calling on (city officials) to denounce antifa publicly,” said Will Johnson, an event organizer with Patriot Prayer. “We could have had this rally tomorrow, and it would have been peaceful. Not a single person wants to fight. They are bringing the violence.”

  • crewman

My guess is they’re still going to have it.

  • Dubito et cogitare

    Such snowcucks.

    • edrex

      “snowcuck.” i like it.

      • safari

It combines both snowflake and cuck in one word and makes me think “white”.

        • edrex

          hmmm… how about “cuckflake?”

          • narutomania

            Perfect !!!

          • edrex

            just give me credit.

          • TuuxKabin

            how ’bout Carte Blanche?

          • edrex

whatever buys me a drink. (so nice to hear from you, btw. hadn’t seen you around much. i assume you were on holiday?)

          • TuuxKabin

            Igualmente, for sure.

Gladly buy you a drink or two. Took AmTrak, top and bottom, three days three nights to Portland, to Salem to see total eclipse of the sun. WOW. Overnighted again, top n’ bottom to East Bay, Richmond and staying on this side of the bay for the duration of the summer of love. SF has no more allure for me. It’s nice to see from across the bay. Off to Million $ Friday Night Movie Club in Bezerkeley for now. Always good to see your icon and comments.

          • edrex

husband & i are coming out late next week. will be in the city. any restaurant recommendations? cocktail spots? definitely want to stand in line at tartine. have dinner reservations with friends at greens. what else might you recommend? haven’t been out there in several years.

          • TuuxKabin

Haven’t been ’round here since ’11 and most of our time is spent in Bezerkeley & east bay, we spend so little time in SF, growing up out here and in SF for most of the time, I’ve taken Thomas Wolfe to heart, “You Can’t Go Home Again.

The city makes for a good back drop and view from this side of the bay. I have no idea what to recommend. You may want to “OT/ask” some of the commentater tots on the neo-nazi switching their rally to Alamo Square thread about places to go.

Hope it’s a good visit. We’ll be taking the train back the day after Labor Day. It’s been grand.

          • Jonathan

Greens was disappointing the last time I was there. Try Sotto Mare, you won’t regret it.

          • edrex

thanks. i appreciate the tip. we’ll check it out.

          • edrex

husband and i just returned from sotto mare. delicious. had the baccala, sand dabs and crab. exactly what we wanted. thanks for the tip.

Hayes Street Grill never disappoints and nor does Zuni. Suppenkutchen down the street from Hayes Street Grill has great German food.

    • thom

Hey don’t equate a perfectly harmless fetish with Nazis

    • Craig C

This is right out of their playbook. Schedule a rally in a liberal city, get everyone freaked out and geared up for a counter protest, and then cancel at the last minute so they can play the victim while getting free PR. It’s why we should just ignore these idiots.

  • SoCalGal20

    “WAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!” Fucking snowflakes.

  • SLK in SF
    • Judas Peckerwood

      I thought that was genius!

      • SLK in SF

The Guardian’s ‘Turd Reich’ title was pretty genius too.

    • Piet

Like SF’s dog walkers can’t mess up Alamo Square at least as well as they could Crissy Field and in the same amount of time? You know they can . . . !

  • Judas Peckerwood

They fear being knocked out of the headlines by Hurricane Harvey.

  • Scoot

Aww. Big tough guys are scared of all the liberal snowflakes.

    • clay

Who were going to be miles away.

  • Ken M

Now it can be a celebration rally. Many happy, and a few I’m sure breathing much easier.

  • Gianni

Now that our beloved Prez has made it known that those evil counter-protesters were a violent bunch, these poor, beleaguered nazi’s and other crapsters are feeling better about themselves so now it’s definitively the counters who start the trouble.

  • TuuxKabin

They’re up to something worse now. Alamo Square’s surrounded by residential homes and dwellings. Crissy Field is at least removed from homes.

    • Cuberly

      Totally agree.

They’re doing this on purpose, its provocative and even more dangerous.

    • Chucktech

I’m assuming someone at city hall gave them a permit?

      • TuuxKabin

That I don’t know, but from other comments here neither the PD or sheriff’s office has. At this timie, 4:15PDST.

      • coram nobis

        I doubt it.

        • sfbob

If the city didn’t want the Park Service to issue a permit I’m sure they won’t issue one either.

      • stevenj

Mayor Lee was not happy with the Park Service permit. I doubt he’d OK this. Park and Rec needs a permit and 60 days notice for events in city parks.

  • Bob Black

Nazis SHOULD fear violence. I think we should show up in force and violently shut them down. Imagine what the crowd in Boston could have do e to the pitiful group of racists that showed up there. Appeasement didnt work with Hitler. Why do we think this group will respond differently?

    • Tomcat

Violence will gain us more violence. Grow up.

      • Bob Black

Look up Neville Chamberlain and tell me how well it worked out the last time we tried to appease Nazis.

        • Jeff Chang

Are you prepared to use a gun?

  • glass
  • Mark Née Fuzz

Are they going to try that again? Seems one of them pretty much got his ass handed to him when he tried to hold a presser in Charlottesville.

  • edrex

so antifa serves a good function after all.

    • Tomcat

But only when they stay within the laws.

      • Judas Peckerwood

Well, that punch to Richard Spencer’s face wasn’t within the laws, but it was mighty fine.

  • Tomcat

This is all part of the plan to get rid of ANTIFA. They set up a schedule the cry they are afraid and soon the law comes after ANTIFA.

  • Joe in PA

Not a single person wants to fight.

Sure Jan. That’s why you show up with shields and helmets etc.

    • narutomania

      And lead-lined batons.

    • Todd20036

Meanwhile, at Charlottesville, not a single snowcuck (seriously like that) got hurt, but quite a few of our side did, and worse

      • Reality.Bites

Many of them had hurt feelings and weren’t shy to display them.

    • Buford

Methinks they are worried about getting ‘Dagged’ (ala Colleen Dagg). The rules have changed… progressives now punch back.

      • Harley

Or get escorted in by a tuba player.

  • Ken M

New “no weapon” lock downs, and video phones. A couple things they didn’t have to deal with before. Times change guys.

  • SoCalGal20

Hopefully their “press conference” will be as successful as Jason Kessler’s.

  • Mike C
    • Ken M

      OMG..I remember this….lol

  • Sam_Handwich

YAY! I”m proud of Boston for showing up.

where 100 nazis gather, 40,000 normal people will counter protest

    • Chucktech

Wanna bet that’s why they’ve canceled?

      • Nowhereman

That’s a cucker’s bet. Of course it is. I’m lovin’ it!

  • Ken M

So when and where is the next rally supposed to be? Never too early to start prepping.

    • sfbob

      Sunday in Berkeley.

      • matrem

        Also cancelled

        • sfbob

Really? Last I heard the Patriot Prayer folks were telling their people to join them in Berkeley on Sunday. The Sunday thing was refused a permit for a multitude of reasons but the group organizing that one has a history of ignoring the lack of a permit.

  • thom

OT… DecisionDeskHQ is a pretty accurate predictor of elections and polls. their take on 2018
“Model predicts Dems fail to win the House despite an 8% popular vote lead. Gerrymandering could cost Dems a majority in 2018 just like 2012 https://t.co/Uihqns45aN

    • thom

Also Harry Enton of NYT doesn’t think Dems can take the Senate either.
      I tend to agree

      • Ninja0980

2016 was our best shot until 2020.
Bottom line, if we only lose three to four seats next year, that will be a good night.

        • thom

          Yep, thats my take too

      • Chucktech

Honestly, the best I’m hoping for, given how stupid Americans are with their micro attention spans, that we’ll just barely tread water. God, I hope I’m wrong.

    • SoCalGal20

Well that’s going to motivate people to get out to vote! /s

Why are we making predictions over a year before the elections? What purpose does that serve aside from discouraging people from voting?

    • Tomcat

Damn hope they did not pay for obvious BS.

  • Todd Allis
  • Bob Conti

You know… the news media doesn’t have to cover a press conference or if they do, air anything.

    • kareemachan

Well, the counter-protesters need to know what’s going on where, tho…

      • Todd Allis

Twitter will take care of that.

      • Bob Conti

The point is to not give them air time. I was a weekend assignment editor at KCBS-TV a long long long time ago. The Columbia Television Stations guidebook was that we should not air staged news events. So there was a group that in essence staged or provoked fights just to get coverage. I wouldn’t even send a crew even though other stations covered and aired it. Denying them coverage is like putting salt on a leach. Or something like that.

      • Bob Conti

They’re not going to get that info waiting for the 5:00 news. I suppose KCBS Radio, the all-news station, might cover it live, but that’s if all hell breaks loose. Honestly, they’re like some creature that feeds off raw emotion. What if they gave a news conference and nobody came? And I mean NOBODY.

        • coram nobis

You’d still have the local Fox outlet, and the fascists can film themselves and post it on YouTube anyway.

  • safari

O/T: Anyone here dealt with a broken pelvis? My dad fell, and I’m wondering about practical prognoses..

    • Ben in Oakland

My friend, Ellen just suffered that at 96. Lots of bed rest, and moving is really important, despite pain and protests.

      • safari

        Good to know. Thanks.

        • Ben in Oakland

My physical therapist tells me that what kills most old people is they stop moving. Ellen was determined to get out of the nursing home she was in, so I told her she needed to keep moving. She did.

          • safari

Not moving is how my father will go, I’m afraid.

          • Ben in Oakland

            Sorry to hear it.

    • coram nobis

      I’m sorry to hear that.

    • TuuxKabin

That’s a hard thing for him and you to experience. Does he suffer from osteoporosis? Sometimes the pelvis/hip is deteriorated and actually ‘fails/breaks’ from the condition and the person falls. If fx’d from the fall hospitalization most likely with P.T. for hopeful recovery. If he gets P.T. hopefully he’ll work at it faithfully. And, hopefully able to go home again. Good luck with that and take care, mind your own strength and capabilities, try not to burn out taking care, assisting him. Children are vulnerable when a parent is in crisis.

      • bzrd

Yes, as we age osteoporosis is a big threat. My mother had metastatic breast cancer in her bones, the first symptom was a broken pelvis

      • safari

        Thanks.

        • TuuxKabin

Sure. I worked in long term care for 30+ years and still have some resources for information if you feel like asking, I’m around.

    • djcoastermark

I don’t know much about a broken pelvis, but my heart goes out to you and your dad. Here’s to all the best.

      • safari

        Thank you.

  • Ninja0980

    What weak, whiny snowflakes!

  • Cuberly

So from Crissy Field to a heavily populated part of town, close to a large university.

Yeah, they don’t want a confrontation at all. What bullshit.

The way the rally field was cordoned off obviously bothered them. They would have basically been isolated via fencing and just the distance from the main thoroughfares.

Moving to Alamo Square at the last minute basically gives them a bigger louder platform and an even larger chance for violence.

    • sfbob

Alamo Square is four city blocks surrounded by pretty dense housing. It’s incredibly congested a good part of the day. I can’t see it working out well for anyone and if they can, the city should physically prevent the…I don’t even know what to call them…douchebags is I suppose as good as anything…from even reaching Alamo Square. Post barricades at every intersection with street closures and heavy police presence.

      • Cuberly

Tour buses, tourists, yep, that area is always congested big time.

    • Gerry Fisher

They don’t even really want the media attention for their speeches. Their primary purpose is the “fighting in the streets” part. They’re hell bent on painting antifa as the aggressors.

  • edrex

so, can the city deny a permit for alamo square? i thought the chrissy field site was feasible b/c it was federal land.

    • coram nobis

It’s national park land, and the superintendent had granted a permit. This one catches the City off-balance.

      • sfjohn

They still need a permit which they haven’t got

        • coram nobis

Not from the City, no, and the Chief and the Sheriff aren’t granting it.

          • sfbob

I assume they wouldn’t get a permit (did they even bother asking?) but has the mayor’s office confirmed that they won’t be issuing one?

          • coram nobis

They were trying to get the Park superintendent not to grant one, were vociferous about it. I very strongly doubt they will be any more favorable now.

          • coram nobis

Not in so many words, not so far. State Sen. (fmr. city supv.) Scott Wiener has denounced the maneuver and the organizers.

Most of the time I loathe the man but when he’s good he’s very good.

      • bzrd

The mayor was not happy with the park service giving them a permit, my bet, no permit for the haters
they say it’s a press conference, better be only a few haters, then

  • Tulle Christensen

So they only had 10 people show up, I guess

  • kareemachan

They just didn’t want to step in all the dog poop.

  • ccc
  • Ben in Oakland

Such delicate snowflakes they are for such manly men.

The rest of us are calling on the city officials to denounce you nazis. And no, you nazis are NOT the peaceful side. I hope that your press conference is surrounded by 50,000 or more real Americans who will energetically drown you out and scare the piss out of you.

        4. Being passive aggressive

    Double cross.

For one thing, it moves a possible scene to a different venue, one that’s about a mile from Civic Center and the counter-demo scheduled for Harvey Milk Plaza. It also puts it in another scenic venue, the Painted Ladies are there, and probably a lot of tourists.

  • Chucktech

Do you suppose that they’re discovering that the town isn’t filling up with nazis and KKK and other assorted white assholes and THAT’S why they’re canceling?

    • coram nobis

No, I think it’s a Lucy-with-the-football stunt. The Park Service and the SFPD were putting up all the barricades around Crissy Field and re-routing Muni service and now they’re moving the game to Alamo Square.

I suppose if they really want trouble they could go to Mission Dolores Park.

      • Chucktech

I would imagine it would take lots of permits to do that. They can’t just decide to show up somewhere. Guess we’ll see.

        • coram nobis

They just decided. And now the SFPD is going to have to scramble. I bet the Mayor and the Chief have a lot of colorful things to say right now.

          • sfbob

One of which would be “If you think we’re gonna give you a permit for that you’re even crazier than we thought you were.”

I don’t think police will have too much difficulty maintaining a presence there. Ideally what’ll happen is that five minutes after the so-called “Patriots” arrive they’ll be surrounded by cops and cited for unlawful assembly.

          • Reality.Bites

Unless Alamo Square is a lie and it’ll really be a third site. Although I also wonder how much intel the police have that they aren’t sharing. Since they mainly organize online, I assume they’re not that hard to infiltrate.

          • coram nobis

It’ll be very hard for police to cordon the area and search for weapons.

      • sfbob

Dolores Park will be too crowded.

        • coram nobis

Exactly. The habitués there for a sunny Saturday would get wrathy, fast.

      • Ken M

But do they need, and do they have, a permit to hold it there? If not, that could be one very short rally.

        • Cuberly

It’s out of the jurisdiction of the NPS, so now the Mayor has more control.

          • Ken M

Very stupid move on the part of the Nazis. They would have been smarter to just show up. They don’t seem to get it…communication is fast now….wow! Within an hour word will spread and there will very likely be people sleeping over night there. The city, no matter where it’s located, isn’t going to put up with their BS.

          • Cuberly

The way the NPS was cordoning off Crissy Field, my guess is they knew they’d be more isolated. They had errected fencing all around the field and had planned for police to be stationed along it to prevent people from climbing over it or tearing it down. Basically the nazis would be far away from most prying eyes. Sort of defeats the purpose of their attention whoring and provocation.

          • Chucktech

And that vast space would have made their (most likely) puny numbers look all the more laughable.

          • Cuberly

Pretty much. But if they plan on a post card backdrop from Alamo Square, uh, they’re going to be in for a surprise.

          • David Gervais

I think that is the real reason they cancelled on that site.

          • Nowhereman

I’m really curious to see how many of them actually show up. I’m not seeing anything on the news about it yet. They are being drowned out by the hurricane and the Trump-Russia investigation.

          • Ken M

If they’re trying to claim a peaceful, free speech and prayer rally, they had better be careful. They’re are going to be very carefully watched.

          • Dagoril

I was waiting for Dinesh to post some random photo from another city’s Mardi Gras and call it the ‘Patriot Prayer’ rally.

          • Nowhereman

I just chuckled imagining him posting a photo from the Pride parade!

          • Gerry Fisher

No, they get it. They are just angling themselves for more violence. One way to do it is to move to “flash mobs” that would prevent government from dividing the protesters as they did in Boston.

          • Jonathan

No guns allowed. One openly carried weapon and the police will seize it and you!

        • Jeff Chang

          Do BLM protests have permits?

          • juanjo54

Jeffy – did BLM announce a press conference at Alamo Square? No? Then it is irrelevant. See sweet cheeks here is how it works, if you decide to have a rally for “Trolls for Trump”, you need a permit for the space. If you get a permit then you have a rally. If people show up, say the Sisters of Perpetual Opposition to Trump for your rally, guess what douche bag – that’s part of your rally and that’s free speech. See how that works? https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/e0bda988c6472e4d2d9b723c8d3dc3536e74424426ae83e9e596669d72dd5928.jpg

      • Cuberly

Narrow streets, and a spot where a few major bus lines travel through it. Yep, a very bad location.

      • Gerry Fisher

        >Harder for police to prevent trouble.

I’m tellin’ ya (after reading about how the Nazis turned the public against anti-fascists in the 20s/30s), stoking violence, getting the public to fear this violence (especially linked to antifa), and then having the sheeple grant the authoritarian leader–Cheetolini–more power. This is a trap.

    • lyram

And it just had a long, expensive renovation. Grrrr.

    • Reality.Bites

No permit for a gathering though.

      • Ken M

Well, that applies to both sides, and the no weapons rules apply within the city with or without permits.

      • Cuberly

Details are a little sketchy I guess. They initially reported that most of the rally attendees would be going to Alamo Square. If that’s the case, 300+ people, then yeah. The Mayor could shut that down.

    • clay

      Ahhh, too bad, no gazebo.

    • Nowhereman

I’m thinking they will need a police escort out of there.

      • Cuberly

I’m thinking they may prevent access to the park by blocking off all streets one block away from the park. Basically setting up perimeter. Allowing access for residents only.

If they let the nazis into the park and antifa and black bloc converge, trying to control the situation in such a tight and difficult area to get in and out of could turn into a major debacle.

        • Nowhereman

I saw photo of the area, and it looked like it would really be a pain in the ass to the folks who live there. I’m glad it worked out like it did.

    • Judas Peckerwood

Hmmm, remind me — what happened the last time a bunch of racist fucks gathered at a place named “Alamo”?

    • juanjo54

it is completely walled off now. No one gets in or out without being searched for weapons. And since the “patriots” have no permit form the City for a parade or rally, if the step off the sidewalk they get arrested.

  • Uncle Mark

Damn…how can we see how “superior” these “people” are when they’re too afraid to come out and show us? Well, they do retreat & hide better than other mortal men, but does that really make them superior?

  • Reality.Bites

Trump’s going to be outraged and threaten the City.

  • Elsewhere1010

They really don’t know much about SF geography if they think that no one can find them in Alamo Square. Of course, we can’t prep the Square as already prepped Crissy Field for them, but I’m sure we’ll think of something.

    • TuuxKabin

Counting on that San Francisco creativity and cleverness to make them look foolish and act as cowardly as they really are.

    • edrex

get your dogs up there, stat!

      • djcoastermark

I was just going to say. Time to move the poop party.

        • edrex

i’m going to be there next week. if i were there a few days earlier, i’d do it myself.

  • Jacob

The people standing up against the haters are not COUNTER protesters. They ARE the protesters.

  • Helen Damnation™

Yes! Who’s the snowflake NOW, bitches!

  • jonfromcalifornia

“They are bringing the violence.” He forgot to add, “We are bringing the hate.”

  • Ginger Snap

It’s time that they are afraid for supporting hate. I was terrified most of my early adult life marching for my rights, my pride and with ActUp to save my community. Be very afraid you bigoted fuckers and feel what it’s like.

  • Cuberly

The situation is evolving but if they plan on using Alamo Square, they’d most likely be turned away.

“According to the city Recreation and Park Department website, any gathering is considered a “special event” if it involves amplified sound, advertises that it is open to the public, or requires special barricades and fences, among other things. Police can disband an unpermitted event and arrest organizers.
The city requires special-event applications to be submitted at least 60 days in advance. The fee is $62.”

    http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/Organizers-cancel-Saturday-s-far-right-rally-in-11961550.php

Crissy Field is still staged for their event. It’s not known if the NPS plans to break everything down.

  • Lars Littlefield

I suspect many residents who live in apartments and homes surrounding Alamo Square will be flying Pride flags so the Peace Prayer folks can take lots of pretty photos.

  • Jeffg166

The nazi playbook, play the victim.

    • Gerry Fisher

      this x 1000

  • margaretpoa

They just didn’t want to stomp around in dog shit.

Oh, and I’m sure that the city of SF will condemn a group whose name is short for ANTIFAscist. Dipshit.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

Now I wonder about the cleanup.

      • Snarkaholic

Just hand each of Chump’s gullible voters a fork, and tell them that there’s free fudge on the lawn.

      • Tor

Yep. Another plan gone to hell.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

While I am no fan of antifa’s black bloc tactics, I can’t deny the glee I feel at the thought of Nazis being afraid…just something about it warms my heart. Be afraid Nazis, be very afraid. It ain’t 1933.

    • Gerry Fisher

      I fear it’s a 1929 redux.

  • Cuberly

Now they’re reporting they cancelled the Berkeley rally as well.

  • Natty Enquirer

I suspect the real reason for the move is that government at all levels pretty much choked off access to Crissy Field. Now he’s calling it a news conference to skirt the special event regulation and take the mantle of the First Amendment.

  • 2patricius2

    Snowflakes….. ************

  • Just like how the election of a Black president didn’t signal the end of racism in America, white nationalists are discovering the election of a Nazi doesn’t mean the whole country is ready to go goose-stepping.

    Copied and pasted from Hoodline:

    Scott Wiener ✔ @Scott_Wiener

Extremists say that instead of Crissy Field, they’re holding “press conference” Sat. @ Alamo Square. This is illegal as they have no permit.

Crissy Field rally cancelled by organizer. Now they plan to hold press conf in Alamo Sq. Please don’t be alarmed, we are working on it!

NO, the reason you’re cancelling your hate rally is you fear that the 10 thousand to 1 ratio that we saw in Boston last week is going to make you look like the dumbasses you are!

  • disqus_WK7SkPLlUO

They need a safer space for snowflakes.

    • coram nobis

Maybe Alaska. Whoops, no Arctic sea ice. That global warming hoax, of course.

  • Treant

Lemme guess, most of your crew is too scared to appear in public knowing they’ll be outnumbered. Then you guys will taunt and start something and blame it on the liberals. Or try to do so, since we know you’re full of crap.

Better you cancel this than find yourselves with a crowd of 200 and 20,000 protesters.

    • stevenj

The population density of the Alamo Sq neighborhood is appx 32,000 per sq. mile. Instant counter demonstration personnel available within blocks of Alamo Sq.

      • Tor

Exactly. Potential for horrible is very high. At least Crissy Field is quite remote.

      • Snarkaholic

I hope people on the upper floors of the square’s buildings have their cameras at the ready.

    • ZhyKitty

They also witnessed a lot of their crowd being outed and losing their jobs. Hopefully, these cockroaches really are too scared to come out into the light. Nobody wants a known Nazi working for them, with the exception of the President, of course.

  • JCF

BULLSHIT. They’re afraid white nationalists will show up w/ swastikas: THAT is why they’re cancelling!

  • Tor

My BF, who works in a popular Castro shop, and gets all the news first, says they are going to move it to Alamo Square. Permits? I doubt it. But it is near the center of everything – Now I’m worried.

  • bdsmjack

    Sic ’em, SF.

  • MonochromeMouse

This is exactly how nazi freaks all over the country (and world) need to feel, terrified to show their faces in public because the regular people will beat the shit out of them for fun.

  • Franciscan

They’re just upset that they couldn’t bring guns, clubs, pepper spray, etc. into Crissy Field, by order of the Park Police. The counter-protesters would have to abide by the same conditions. Must be that a peaceful demonstration is NOT what they (the Nazis) wanted.

  • Girlgoon

Violence from the left like when we hit right wingers’ parked cars with our bodies and somehow end up crushed and dead underneath.

More likely that after having unlimited liberty in Charlottesville the public’s reaction to overt fascism has hardened in a way not necessarily to his advantage. It is not fear of violence, but fear of ridicule.

  • DesertSun59

The Right is slowly but surely demonstrating how they understand how to use memes. Not the stupid FB graphics memes, but the ones that George Lakoff explains how to create and sustain.

The Right has ALL received the memo about ‘antifa’. They have circulated the fake claim (meme) that it’s an actual organization, that’s funded by Soros and has cells in every major city now. Go to Breitbart to find out that this is what they truly believe.

The Right has saturated the Web and comments sections with this meme. SATURATED it. So, it’s now a ‘fact’ to them. Never mind that no such thing as a group called ‘antifa’ actually exists in reality. To them, Soros is the head of this org.

So, the Right has very successfully been able to use this meme to claim that any protest against them is worthy of death. Slowly but surely, this meme will sink into the subconscious of citizens and they will start believing it. This will happen because the Left has not a clue how to stop stupid, nonsensical memes from continuing.

  • DumbHairyApe

Well, the Park Service should start a new policy because when a group pulls a permit for an event at a location, it prohibits other groups from being able to secure that venue for another event. So, I propose that they should have a new policy that if your group ever cancels an event, you can’t ever get a permit for another. 🙂

  • juanjo54

Bull crap. What happened is the Feds, the CHP, and the City informed them that they had restricted access into Crissy Field and set up check pints where everyone entering would be reached for weapons – no back packs, no batons, no knives, no firearms, nothing remotely usable as a weapon. No vehicles would be allowed near the area. So neither the “free speech” Nazis would be armed and neither would anyone who showed up to counter protest. They also intend to keep a complete barrier between the two groups of protesters. No weapons, these brave men can only use their fists and they are not capable of areal street brawl, most of them. They need a gun to be a man.

The fact is they want a confrontation. They want video they can post on line showing the “anti-fascists” attacking them so they can claim that they are the righteous protectors of free speech. But with federal, state and city law enforcement crawling up their asses and making sure no one gets the chance is not what the want.

So then they announce they will go to Alamo Square which is much smaller, a hillside but has a great view of Victorian mansion and the city behind it. They hoped they could get a provocation there. The City has walled it off and announced the same restrictions – no one gets in without being searched. And since the Nazis do not have a permit to parade through the City [they only had a permit from the Feds to gather at Crissy Field [which is federal park land], they can be arrested the second they step off the curb.

Life sucks when you are a Nazi looking for video footage.

  • juanjo54

Well, well, well. Looks like Alamo Square is called off. Maybe the Castro? How about the Haight?

    http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/SF-makes-hurried-plans-to-handle-right-wing-event-11969432.php

  • juanjo54

He’s busy whimpering to anyone who will stop long enough for him to start about how the city stopped him from speaking. He had a permit for Crissy Field which is federal park land. The city has no jurisdiction over it. He could have had his rally there and done so safely. They had the area blocked off and put in barriers to keep counter protesters separate from protesters. They also had set up gates and screening to stop anyone form bringing in any type of weapons or even driving a vehicle into the area.

He did not like that at all. It did not fit into his plans to have skirmishes which could be filmed and broadcast to support his claims about the violent leftist thugs.

He had no permit for Alamo and early on the city said they would allow the press conference to go forward but they intended to fence off the area and do the same sort of crowd control. Then Patriot Douche announced the same speakers and musical groups would be doing their thing at the “press conference”. The city said nope, no performances and no speeches by various speaker. In fact no more that 25 people plus the press or nothing doing.

  • Gerry Fisher

    >“I am calling on (city officials) to denounce antifa publicly,” said Will Johnson

In the 1920s/1930s as it is today, it’s a primary goal of the Nazis to make anti-fascists appear more violent, lawless, and threatening than they are. If the public gets scared enough at the violence, then they relax the rule of law and give the authoritarian leader more power.
