Trump Lies About Last Night’s Stupid Lies

This morning Trump bragged about the “packed house” at last night’s campaign rally in Arizona, where, as cameras showed multiple times, the venue was only about half full. Trump also claims that last night he read the crowd his earlier statements on Charlottesville, but as we all know, he pointedly omitted the “many sides” declaration which brought denouncements from actual many sides. There’s nothing he won’t lie about, including his lies.

  • Dreaming Vertebrate

    OK, … lying about lying.
What would philosophers call this? Something parallel to metacognition.
    Meta-lying? Metafabrication?

  • Tom G

    Like Hitler, except really dumb.

    • Smokey

Truly, because without the complicity of the GOP he would be either removed or laughed off the world stage.

      and rather ugly

A rump lump on the trump sump hump! Hope you don’t mind crowds…

      • Mark Née Fuzz

Fox News would somehow spin that into the faithful paying homage.

    • Silver Badger

I think he is planning on taking us all with him.

    • Like Osama Bin Laden, he will probably be buried at sea.

      • agcons

That makes things more difficult for us, of course, but I’m sure we’ll manage somehow.

Hah! That was taken three days before he even showed up! All those people wanted to be sure to get a good view at the Almighty!!

    • Mark Née Fuzz

Even then, the people are spread out so it’s more like a quarter full. It’s looks like even Trumpanzees don’t want to stand too close to each other.

      • John

Understandable. I suspect most of them only bathe once a month.

      • Gustav2

        SRO!

        • GayOldLady

I don’t know what Trump is seeing, but what I’m seeing is much less than the 19k he bragged about. I don’t think there’s more than 3-4k in that room. We could have pitched a small village of tents in the back and had a full on flea market while he was giving his speech.

          • zhera

He used the bible math. It’s only 1900 people there, but Jeeziz adds a zero.

          • GayOldLady

Well of course. Why didn’t I think of that.

          • John

            Exactly my thought!

      • Randy503

Pretty small room, too. Any one of the candidates last year would have filled up twice this number.

      • bzrd

With 1/2 the venue walled off, the hall was about 1/4 full
        or
        3/4 empty

  • Tawreos

I wonder how many of his supporters watched the rally last night, saw the place was half empty and will swear it was packed because he says it was. Sadly the answer is most of them and the remaining ones will change the subject.

  • bkmn

I wonder how many of Trump’s supporters thinks Elvis is still alive…

Wait a minute!!I saw him last week in Kansas City. He was coming out of a 7-11. He had a Big Gulp and three doughnuts. Amelia Earhart was with him.

        • Paula

Amelia Earhart wouldn’t lie to me. Would she?

          • Lie to you? She hasn’t even landed yet.

Yes!!! How did you know? They mentioned something about going to visit Judge Crater.

          • He a Mexican?

          • Smokey

How did you know I live in Judge Crater’s home town?

          • Paula

Are there any weird pieces of concrete in your the basement that don’t seem to belong or spots in the backyard that nothing will grow?

          • Smokey

No, but one morning at the last home I owned a small tombstone appeared in my yard. Shook me a little. City code officer explained that a neighboring property had rubble from a cemetery that was moved for a highway project years earlier. Kids probably stumbled upon it and were having some fun.

      • Butch

You’re mistaken. He was with Janice Joplin, not Earhart.

something to remember: the rear wall at the Phoenix Convention Center is movable. judging from its proximity to the stage, I’d estimate there are 2,000-2,800 people at the rally. at maximum capacity, it holds 48,000 people. some photos show about 1/3 of the room is empty in the back. typical Trump bullshit.

    • Gustav2

“Trump is crazy” cannot be said often enough.

  • lymis

I’m NOT defending the asshole, but it seems pretty clear to me that the “many sides” comments were him going off script while delivering someone else’s written remarks for him to deliver, and that last night, he dug out the original script, which, no doubt, didn’t include the actual comments that got him into trouble. You could see him look up from his script when he said it, so it was no doubt some stream-of-consciousness thing that happened in his head at the moment.

So, yes, the lying liar, the script for what he said that night didn’t include the remarks, and he no doubt feels he’s putting one over on people by pulling out the script and quoting from it.

At this point, I’m prepared to believe he honestly doesn’t see the difference, and all that matters is what he feels he was supposed to say, not what he actually said. Which, in some very important ways, is worse.

    • Gustav2

And it probably was the “official” script released to the press. How dare the press report what he actually said, it is treason!

  • Butch

“predicting that the media would not broadcast shots of his “rather incredible” crowd”

          • Jonathan Smith

oh, i was not saying the crowd was not light, i just found it strange that “Joe” (Yawn, couldn’t find anything else on) didnt run with lots of shots of that.

Native Americans with 16% picking African Americans, and 5% picking
      Latinos.

Asked what religious group they think faces the most

If that poll was only of Trump voters, and they’re picking whites and Christians at less than their proportion of the American population, that could be a good sign. However, when polled, I imagine most Trump voters think that whites are only 45% of the US public and Christians are only 54%.

On Electoral-Vote they said the crowd “grew unruly.” That’s the FIRST time I’ve seen ANYONE say that.

E-V is usually very reliable, but they got the numbers wrong, too, I think. They say 1500 showed up to cheer him and “several thousand” were outside to protest. (They say the venue could hold up to 4,000.)

      http://www.electoral-vote.com/evp2017/Senate/Maps/Aug23.html#item-1

I read the convention center could hold up to 30,000, but half of it was roped off. The other occupied half was only half full.

Crowd Slowly Thinned As Trump Continued His Rant

Washington Post: “But as the night dragged on, many in the crowd lost interest in what the president was saying.”

“Hundreds left early, while others plopped down on the ground, scrolled through their social media feeds or started up a conversation with their neighbors. After waiting for hours in 107-degree heat to get into the rally hall — where their water bottles were confiscated by security — people were tired and dehydrated and the president just wasn’t keeping their attention. Although Trump has long been the master of reading the mood of a room and quickly adjusting his message to satisfy as many of his fans as possible, his rage seemed to cloud his senses.”

  • billbear1961

Rick Klein: “Raise your hand if you thought Afghanistan was the only war he was committing to this week. A day after President Trump called on the nation to ‘heal our divisions within,’ and where he sent thousands of additional Americans into combat, he spent 80-plus wild minutes picking at the nation’s freshest wounds.”

“The fact that he was eager to relitigate his response to Charlottesville – to suggest, falsely, that it was just a matter of the ‘dishonest media’ twisting his words – displays a stunning lack of understanding about the severity of the damage he did last week, to himself, his party, and maybe the nation. In understanding Trump’s strategy, tallying the deceptions, half-truths, non-truths, and selective recitation of nonfacts isn’t close to enough. Perhaps he can deceive himself, and even get many of what remain of his followers in the same frenzied place as he was in Phoenix Tuesday night. But President Trump is getting smaller even as he gets louder.”

No lie here. To all you sisterettes and brotheretes out here in the gorgeous, thirst quenching green and gorgeous PNW, PDX in particular, I envy your location. I’m glad you like Portland – we lived there for a number of years. And I so envy your trip! Trains are the GREATEST (aside: one idiot who opposes improving our railroad system actually stated that no one wants to ride on a train – we all love to drive cars. Bullshit.) In college, I spent a spring break by taking Amtrak from Seattle to Chicago to Boston to Denver to visit friends and back to Seattle. Aside from having to sleep in a seat (budget, ya know), it was great. And the scenery was SO incredible. Enjoy the rest of your journey!

Met the cutest 21 year old, somewhere between Minot, MT and Glacier. Dressed in a dinosaur suit, like a pair of jammies, which I thought was to keep him warm since the AC can be freezing, he said no. I invited him to sit down with the two of us and another passenger and the kid, I’m old enough to be his great granddad, was bright, articulate and fun company. I felt like a talk show host. The scenery and people, and attendants made the trip. Our first leg, out of Pandemonium Station, NYC, the ‘roomette’ had a toilet. But we had to remove the piece of luggage and put it in the passage way to use it. As a friend told us who travels by train all the time, keep a sense of humor, and we did. Thanks for telling your experience. Train travel ees zee BOMB.

As Brothers from another planet we don’t need no stinking birther proof.

      Ah, the Summer of Love!

It really was a remarkable season, yet if you asked me in what way it was remarkable, I’d have to say I can’t put my finger on it

Has ANYONE in the media given out possible numbers of people, that were ACTUALLY in the auditorium??

If Charlottesville had been overrun with heavily armed Muslims, carrying torches and ISIS flags and chanting “JEWS WITH NOT REPLACE US,” would Donny have said some were “very fine people”? What if one of the Muslim marchers had driven his car into a crowd of innocent people, killing one and injuring 19 others, would be have said that “many sides” were to blame?

Republicans missing the similarities between Christian extremists and Muslims extremists, excusing the former and emphasizing the latter, has been something of a theme lately.

The only real cure is doing what these people did, empty the pews. https://twitter.com/hashtag/emptythepews

The religious leaders will only change their behavior if they suddenly miss numbers & tithes.

Regarding that packed house, how many fat lard asses does it take to fill a room?

    • billbear1961

THESE fat lard asses couldn’t manage to fill HALF the space available.

    • Snarky

*half fill. Fixed that for you.

At first glance, pencil sharpeners. Did I guess correctly? It would complete him. A pencil ass to go with his less than pencil dick.

O/T but it is about AZ repugs:

    https://news.vice.com/story/arizona-gop-uses-margaret-cho-sitcom-pic-to-represent-asian-americans

The AZ Repug Party used a photo of Cho’s sitcom family to represent Asian Americans supposedly supporting them. Took it down as soon as someone pointed it out to them.

Conservatives seem to have a lot of trouble with photos. Things like this, showing a Cleveland photo and claiming it was Boston drumpster supporters, and Breitbart showing a soccer star and claiming he was smuggling crack to Spain (or something) are par for the course. They don’t seem to get that when they put in on the internets, somebody is bound to catch on – and quickly. Which, overall, is a good thing. More opportunities for us to point and snicker.

“It’s time to expose the crooked media deceptions and to challenge the media for their role in formenting division.”

Oh, for the good old days when W was president, and we’d all be laughing at his latest verbal gaffe. But that gaffe doesn’t even get any notice amidst the unhinged rant little Donnie unleashed on the country last night. We have a 3- year-old with the nuclear codes.

Lets focus less on the crooked medai and focus on the crokked administration

Let me make sure I have this right. Trump lied, about the fake media lies, that he claims were lies about what he didn’t say. Am I close?

    • The_Wretched

The scary part is that Trump doesn’t appear to remember what he did or did not say, doesn’t care that he can’t remember and does a continuous retcon to turn himself into the hero and everyone else into a villain out to get him.

      • Ken M

Didn’t a republican congress try to oust Bill Clinton for lying to the American People?

I love how Lord Dampnut is fixating on the filibuster when the Senate is voting down his pet projects because they can’t get to simple majority support. It’s not like they’re facing the 60 vote hurdle foe every vote that certain other Presidents were handed.
