Trump’s Personal Lawyer Forwards Email Claiming Black Lives Matter Has Been “Totally Infiltrated By Terrorists”

Oh, for fuck’s sake. The New York Times reports:

President Trump’s personal lawyer on Wednesday forwarded an email to conservative journalists, government officials and friends that echoed secessionist Civil War propaganda and declared that the group Black Lives Matter “has been totally infiltrated by terrorist groups.”

The email forwarded by John Dowd, who is leading the president’s legal team, painted the Confederate general Robert E. Lee in glowing terms and equated the South’s rebellion to that of the American Revolution against England.

Its subject line — “The Information that Validates President Trump on Charlottesville” — was a reference to comments Mr. Trump made earlier this week in the aftermath of protests in the Virginia college town. “You cannot be against General Lee and be for General Washington,” the email reads, “there literally is no difference between the two men.”

Sadly, I must insist you hit the link and read the full story. It gets worse.

Basically a conspiracy theorist sent “proof” that Robert E. Lee was similar to Washington because both owned slaves, both ran a country, etc..

The scandal is that he sent it, and the cons take it seriously that BLM is full of terrorists… just because.

My worry is that Trump will use this an excuse to disband BLM

      • Bad Tom

I don’t think the President has the power to disband BLM. He didn’t convene them.

Freedom of Assembly is a basic right. Declaring BLM an actual terrorist organization will take more than a crackpot letter from the President’s “Attorney”.

        • clay

mmmmm, just how little DOES it take to be placed on the terrorist group watch list? I’m not sure a court has ruled on that precisely. If enough news outlets published it, would it be enough to declare them suspect? Declaring Central American asylees to be suspect of violent drug gang activitiy has become that easy.

          • Bad Tom

But with asylees, ICE is involved, America’s very own SS.

    • Treant

Actually, Lee left America and started his own country. With blackjack. And hookers.

I’d also argue about the Great Commander thing. The South lost. Badly. The rest of the points are arguable, temporally insignificant due to the time span between the quoted leaders, not worth mentioning, or not a point you really want to be making here.

      • jerry

Lee was a fairly good tactician…he kept the rebellion going far longer than it should have done. But he was also helped tremendously by the lack of action of McClellan, who could have ended the war right after Antietam, and turned the Peninsula Campaign into a disaster.

And the statement that “both saved America” is really offensive.

    • Hank

Down received the e-mail from someone and then forwarded it on Wednesday morning to more than two dozen recipients, including a senior official at the Department of Homeland Security, The Wall Street Journal editorial page and journalists at Fox News and The Washington Times. There is no evidence that any of the journalists used the contents of the email in their coverage. One of the recipients provided a copy to The New York Times.

The totally corrupt part makes a real difference.

Such as Trump being willing to throw transgendered troops out of the Armed Forces as a bargaining chip for an appropriations bill, and/or as a distraction for Manafort having a search warrant served. The potential ruin of 15,000 lives for very short term selfish personal political gain.

Washington fault to free people from taxation without representation. Lee fought to enslave people. This is eye roll worthy.

    • Karl Dubhe

Didn’t Washington free his slaves in his will? (his wife freed them in 1801)

Lee was a nasty slaveowner, and never repented for his role in the war, did he?

      No difference? Yah, right.

      • UrsusArctos

Washington also chased one of his (actually Martha’s and apparently at her constant goading) escaped slaves for YEARS and using every tool he had. That said Washington fought to create the country not tear it apart. Equating slaveholding with patriotism is a fail, any way you cut it. America and slavery is a nasty story, one that was settled by the civil war, and Lee was on the wrong side of history. Nope, not equal at all

    • Treant

“By night one way, by day another…”

    • Zeldacat

Aww, you saw Fiona in person? JEALOUS!

  • It gets way worse. It’s moral relativism of the worst degree because it ignores the decaying, rancid, maggot-infested elephant corpse in the living room: Lee killed Americans in acts of sedition, insurrection and treason.

Lee didn’t ‘save America’—he sought literally to tear it in half, so that slavery could be maintained after people had finally come to their senses about the barbarity of owning human beings. A process which took many decades before it finally was seen as the only moral position.

The United States of America will be forever stained because it enshrined slavery in its founding documents. The reputations of those founding fathers should also be stained.

But history will never, ever forget that when it was time to end slavery, there were those who took up arms in the cause of owning human beings for torture and forced labor. And Robert E Lee was among them, to the point of being willing to end the United States itself in furtherance of this immoral, monstrous and inhumane cause.

Lee is and will always be a traitor, simple as that.

I read into it a bit, and he is claiming that Lee “saved America” because he gracefully surrendered rather than fight a losing battle at the end.

That’s like getting a gun, going into a store, killing half of the people in it, and then surrender to the cops so that you can talk about how many people you saved (by not killing them). “I saved so many lives that day!”

“Turner’s mom, who cleans houses in town for a living, went to work a couple of days after that, and her employer, an older white woman, brought up the results of the recent election. The two had talked politics before—Turner’s mom is a Democrat, and her employer is a Republican. “Well, you might as well come and live with me now,” the employer said. “You gonna be mine eventually.” “

Perhaps it’s just a lawyer tactic; Engage in behavior that will make your client seem slightly less insane by comparison.

    • No, I just think Trump can only get barrel-scrapings lawyers of the worst kind, because none of the good ones want to work for him. He’s the worst client ever. He incriminates himself constantly and refuses to listen to legal advice. And he doesn’t pay his bills.

      • Treant

And I know plenty of lawyers. They really don’t care if their client incriminates himself, or if they refuse to listen to legal advice. Most don’t play the percentage wins game over the course of their career unless they’re in politics as well.

Not paying? That is a cardinal sin and you’ll get dropped pronto, never to be taken up by a decent lawyer again.

        • Todd20036

If one is into the not-hairy and the, shall we say, “younger side,” Bel Ami can’t be beat.

          • RidingTheLine

The video was “old,” clear back to 2010 but widescreen. It featured “Kris” and “Dolph,” seeming to be a compilation of the various times they were paired together. Both were very athletic young men indeed. Based on the photos I have Googled, I think my interests trend toward “Men” and “Falcon” as far as studios go, along with “Lucas Entertainment.” But, that sort of entertainment is on the same par as social drinking for me. I love to taste new kinds of liquor, but I’m a drinking lightweight. Too many years of the Mormon straight and narrow to handle much liquor or porn, even if both “taste” just fine. Either of them sure beat wasting time on any more lame sermons.

          • another_steve

But you know, RTL, the flesh and the spirit are not incompatible. An evil of much (not all, but much) of institutional religion is that it teaches that the two are incompatible.

I identify as Philosophically Daoist. I sense that everything both of the spirit and of the flesh that is knowable to us is summarized, quite magically, in Lao Tsu’s Tao Te Ching. And, quite miraculously, in only several thousand words.

I enjoy Bel Ami and I enjoy immersing myself in Lao Tsu.

The best of many worlds. 😉

          • RidingTheLine

I will undoubtedly check out more Bel Ami videos from the Lavender Library. I keep toying with subscribing to one of the online adult entertainment groups, but haven’t so far. Do you to subscribe to any or like any of the various studios enough to subscribe? As for my spiritual needs, I have be studying Tarot lately. I would like to get into shamanistic meditation at some point. Whatever avenue I pursue, it will have to be an affirming sort of faith or belief system.

          • another_steve

No, I don’t subscribe to any. I visit porn sites very sparingly. Easy to pick up malware and the like on some of them. Make sure you have adequate security software on your computer before you visit any porn site.

Re spiritual avenues, trust your own instincts. Trust your intuitions.

Shun any avenue that dictates what you “must” believe in order to be whole and complete.

          • RidingTheLine

Good advice on both avenues. Thanks.

    • Todd20036

Why would you think it was cancelled? After the shellacking Trump took, he needs a rally to remind himself how much his base still loves him.

Yeah, he’ll pardon Arpaio. Because as we all know, Trump has no respect for the law.

    • bkmn

His numbers are going to continue to tank after yesterday, so he needs a campaign rally to feed his ego. Don’t be surprised if he grabs someone by the pussy on the stage.

    • LesbianTippingHabits

      Make sure it’s a ‘sellout.’

    • Lazycrockett

      Also to promote Flack’s challenger.

    • Blake J Butler

Someone really needs to look into pardons with this assholes and so on is gone from office.

As well as a ton of other ethics issues our founding fathers overlooked that American would be dumb enough to make a decision like trump, and yes i am talking about the EC not the popular vote.

  • Leo

Oh no. Oh…NO. This is gonna get violent. I’m…sigh.

(Hands Mayor of Phoenix a metal pipe) Have at.

      • fuzzybits

Only if it’s to rush to the stage.

        • Treant

Would I ever suggest such a thing? I would not. Never. Wasn’t even thinking it. Of course not.

          • fuzzybits

          • Treant

            Nudge, nudge.

I hope that the City of Phoenix gets paid cash up front.

Besides, doesn’t “open to anyone” include creditworthiness?

      • clay

The SuperPAC’s still flush from what I hear. Trump already used it to reimburse himself for the “donation” he made to his campaign. (Fucking Mercers.)

        • LesbianTippingHabits

Thank you, but ability to pay bills does not mean willingness to pay them.

    • bkmn

I bet the Phoenix Chief of Police is talking to the Chief in Charlotteville to make a list of everything they encountered. And I hope they do not hesitate to use every military tool in their arsenal.

      • Hank

The Governor of AZ needs to be ready to Declare a State of Emergency!!! That is what Terry McAuliffe did in VA/Charlottesville. Then again Terry is aDemocrat!!!

      • Bad Tom

Put those Bearcats to good use.

    • Lazycrockett

What if the place accidentally flood the day of the rally?

    • safari

Isn’t it, like, 200 degrees there?

      • Rebecca Gardner

        They’re having a cooling trend?

    • swimboy

My cousin is in Phoenix and very active with the resistance there. She’s been recruiting everybody she can to sign up for free tickets and not use them.

      • Rebecca Gardner

        Yay for swimboy’s cousin!

        • swimboy

Yeah, she’s pretty awesome. Her family was close with the first hispanic woman to get deported when going in for her yearly ICE check and she dove into politics head-first after that. Here it is less than 6 months later and she’s running for secretary of the local democratic party. No halfway measures.

          • SoCalGal20

            That’s awesome! Good for her!

    • ultragreen

Let’s hope the air conditioning fails on the day of the rally.

The question begs to be asked
Why are we still discussing a war that ended 150 odd years ago???
Fuck robert e lee. He lost. He actually was the educated of the two major players. Grant being a ruff, foul mouthed, corrupt bastard who thought his troops were expendible.

But still lee lost. Lee surrendered at appomattox. End of story. The south shouldve picked up the pieces and moved the fuck on. But oh no.

We still have to fight these dumb fucks. God. guns. brown people. and gays. They can think of nothing else.
Fucking broken record of racism and homophobia

    • clay

The North didn’t invest enough in nation-building. We spent 35 years in Nicaragua, but only 14 years in our own nation. Think about how much has been accomplished in Afghanistan in 14 years, against how much would have been needed to created a new economy integrated with the North (opps, not until WWII) and a new racially integrated society.

      • CottonBlimp

The North didn’t invest enough in nation-building.

We were going to. But then the biggest advocate of spending the necessary time to truly root out the confederacy and build up the South was shot in a theater.

    • Gee… and if someone just happened to ask WHY that was the obsession?

Lots of reasons. None of them good. Some involve Russian propaganda, but a lot of it was the media deciding they wanted the ratings-bonanza racist pussy-grabbing circus clown rather than a sane, stable, and mega-qualified female candidate.

      • Tomcat

The media brought it up everyday, that did not help.

      • safari

There is an entire industry devoted to hating Hillary.

        • Tomcat

For over 30 years. What an industry that is.

          • And it all started when she refused to be a ‘southern baptist wife’ like Arkansans expected.

Sexism and hatred of female empowerment was at the root of everything brought up as reasons to hate her—because there was always, ALWAYS some male who did the exact same things but was given a pass.

This includes Sanders. Like, “She took corporate money!” So did he. “She wasn’t always 100% pro-LGBT!” Neither was he. Etc.

When they bring it back, they can fix that. 🙂

          • Tulle Christensen

No they can not, it was only allowed by the courts because broadcast TV used the publicly owned airwaves

          • Karl Dubhe

Then there’s no point in bringing it back at all.

Cool, thanks! Then I started the drying process tonight. 🙂

  • Hank

The email’s author, Jerome Almon, runs several websites alleging government conspiracies and arguing that the F.B.I. has been infiltrated by Islamic terrorists. He once unsuccessfully sued the State Department for $900 million over claims of discrimination.

Mr. Almon’s email said that Black Lives Matter, a group that formed to protest the use of force by police against African-Americans, is being directed by terrorists. Mr. Almon blamed the group for deadly violence against police last year in Texas and Louisiana.

Mr. Almon, who is black, said in his email to Mr. Dowd that the protesters should “go back to the ghettos and do raise their children and rebuild places like Detroit.”

In a telephone interview, Mr. Almon said he sent the email to follow up on a phone call he had last week with Mr. Dowd. He said had called to offer damaging information about James B. Comey, the former F.B.I. director, and to provide other information about the Justice Department’s ongoing investigation into the Trump campaign.

      I do that with Republicans.

      • Carl

They get the professional nod. A firm acknowledgement of their presence, but never mistaken for an invitation to small talk.

“Sadly, I must insist you hit the link and read the full story. It gets worse.”

Ever obedient, I read the whole thing. Now I must take the traditional mikveh – a Jewish bath used to achieve ritual purity.

The bath is taken by both orthodox men and women, but one of its most common uses is by Jewish women who wish to achieve purity after menstruation or childbirth before they and their husbands may resume fucking.

    • Hank

Put some stones into the bath and I will join you. This way we can make ourselves Kosher, again!!

      • another_steve

I sense that you are way way beyond kosher status, Hank.

        • Hank

          SSSLLLUUURRRPPP!!!!

    • Sam_Handwich

      i’ll get the bitter herbs

      • Hank

        I already have the horseradish!!!

        • another_steve

I wonder how many of the goyim know how wonderful horseradish is with beef — any cut of beef.

(The edible types, you filthy-minded JMG readers…)

          • Hank

I put it on my hamburgers as well!!!

          • Sam_Handwich

i buy a sinus spray with horseradish in it.

            yoooweeeeeee! but it works

          • safari

            What sinus spray is that?

          • Sam_Handwich

made by Woodstock Herbal Products, called “nasal wash”. it’s a pump spray like other nasal sprays. 1-2 spritzes when you need it.

i buy it at the local natural food store, because it’s cheaper than i can find online.

          • safari

I’ll have to check it out. I’m perpetually clogged.

          • clay

Don’t want to panic you, but if it’s truly chronic, make sure you’ve been evaluated for congestive heart failure.

          • safari

I think I’m still a little young for that.

          • clay

            I thought so, too.
And I don’t know your age.

          • fuzzybits

I love horseradish. I read somewhere years ago about holding a bit of it on your tongue for awhile for sinus problems.

        Good night, boys.

        • safari

          Huh

    • Jonathan Smith

      i just heard “bath”…..
      can i rub your back?

      • another_steve

It’s not a Pornhub thing, hon.

        • Jonathan Smith

Sure. Take all the fun out of it.

        • safari

Don’t sell yourself short. You could be the start of a new fetish.

        • Jonathan Smith

          but…it could be

    • safari

      I could use a schvitz

      • another_steve

A controlled schvitz is what the goyim refer to as a “sweatbox.”

        • safari

I must admit, I prefer a dry sauna to a wet steam room.

  • Lazycrockett

Oh Rachel is tying the Urkaine hacker and the FBI Agent from Mueller’s team together.

    • Leo

Maybe I missed it but I didn’t get that implication.

      • Lazycrockett

Yeah I thought that was where she was going before the b segment.

        • Tomcat

I got the impression she was implying that his work on the Hillary investigations crossed paths with this hacker in the Ukraine and that might be why he is now not in Mueller’s team. The two investigations conflict somehow.

          • Tomcat

He was just reassigned and not sent to North Dakota so who knows.

OT: I know I keep posting these but this is a big deal. Disgusting that it took 3 deaths to get this going.

    • Tomcat

I am glad to see trump has brought the US together finally.
Not that this was his plan.

      • Cuberly

After yesterday I think most biz interests quickly figured out the writing on the wall. The WH isn’t providing leadership so……

        • Tomcat

Maybe they see a civil war as detrimental to their businesses, and they are right.

          • Cuberly

That and there is that problematic issue concerning tech. Their lax TOS enforcement over the years helped cultivate the hate groups.

          • Amanda B. Rekendwith

Another example of capitalism at its finest.
Actually providing the goods/services that they claimed they were providing would have eaten into their profitability, growth curve, and stock price. Nothing worse for killing a capitalist buzz.
Better that they ‘pretend’ to be what they say they are, and rake in the cash, until it is absolutely impossible for them to deny the disconnect.

    • CottonBlimp

People seem really horrified that the Nazis killed people last weekend. Had they not heard of the Holocaust? They’ll be shocked if they ever find out how many people Nazis killed then.

      • Todd20036

The holocaust was 70 years ago and in another country.

It’s not just that the Nazis killed 3 people in Virginia.

It’s that the POTUS enabled them.

THat’s what makes this shit real

        • CottonBlimp

That’s certainly something that demands action. What I’m saying though is that I get the distinct impression that if the Nazis’ protest was completely peaceful, we wouldn’t be seeing all this anti-fascist sentiment.

It doesn’t matter how violent Nazi rallies are. It doesn’t matter if the Nazis argue for dictatorship and genocide with impeccable manners and gentility. And it doesn’t matter if Antifa beats the shit out of Nazis protesting completely peacefully.

Because what’s wrong about Nazis is not how they present their message, it’s *the message itself*, which is racism, murder, and the destruction of our democratic nation. *This*, the core of their beliefs, is what’s intolerable about these fucking monsters, not how much they sugarcoat their intentions.

  • Jeffrey

by now we know that all people in Trump’s immediate orbit are characters from a Coen Brothers movie. This guy is no exception.

    • safari

I’m going to start interpreting the world through this lens.

    • M Jackson

Someone drop an air conditioner on his head! (“Fargo” season 3)

      • Octavio

We need Jean Smart to set the family contract man loose on him.

        • M Jackson

Jean Smart/Tyne Daly/Judith Light — the trifecta of badass ’80s tv stars who turned out to be the best actresses in the country. I want to see them being in everything.

          • Octavio

In the second season’s Fargo Jean Smart played the murderous North Dakota crime family’s matron who led their gang war. During a climactic shootout in the parking lot of a motel, she was surprised by a flying saucer (a continuous theme in Coen Bro’s works) and then was killed by her trusted Native American family assassin for hire.

    • Tomcat

Had the cops done their job Antifa would not have had to do it for them.

      • Tomcat

The police chief admitted they blew it and did a terrible job.

  • bkmn

I really wish the press would stop referring to him as President Trump, he is not deserving of the title.

    • houstonray

And I hate when they don’t use the word “LIE”. They dance around it by saying “the president wasn’t entirely accurate” or “what he was was just not true”. Wish they would just start saying “he lied about that”, or “what the president just said was a lie”

      • Tomcat

They never had any problem saying Obama lied.

      • Snarkaholic

Agreed…especially when there exists actual video PROOF of him saying/doing whatever he’s currently denying.

    • Dreaming Vertebrate

This little Dino would be happy to suggest some more deserving titles.
(after the young ones have turned in)

      • bzrd

        the Resident Nazi

    • Tomcat

      New title, confederate trump.

    • Hank

I never refer to him as anything as Hair Drumpf!!! I DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE his position!!! He is a Con Man, plain and simple!

      • Lazycrockett

I just call him Drumpf he gets nothing more from me.

        • Dreaming Vertebrate

My go to for the racist monster is close – but just Dumpf.

      • fuzzybits

I use “that clown” quite a bit.

        • Snarkaholic

I prefer “Chump” or “Agent Orange.”

      • Tomcat

I would like to refer to his as the late president trump.

        • Snarkaholic

I would like to refer to him as Prisoner #49572986.

          • carrot festival

That patient in room 16c on the psych ward.

        • M Jackson

A variation on “half-term governor Palin” would be my future choice.

      • Hank

Perhaps I should change it to Herr Drumpf, as he has finally shown his TRUE colors in public, at last,

      • ByronK

I’m enamoured with the Orange Fuhrer.

    • Ross

I have not once referred to it with the word President preceding.

As I never did for George W.

      • bzrd

I used to call him the dump but after the Charlottesville fiasco, it’s the Resident Nazi for me

    • M Jackson

He’s just trump. No title, no caps, just a common little noun for a little man. Even my dictatorial auto-correct will not give him the honor.

    • BobSF_94117

Could just shorten “president” to the first letter

      P Trump

One of the two parts of the infra-structure plan they did NOT mention yesterday (it was only yesterday, right?) was eliminating the Obama requirement to NOT build new infra-structure in areas predicted to flood due to climate change. They are doing stupid things just to be contrarian and stupid.

Also– next time we go to a protest on the Mall, should we bike so we can make mobile barriers?

      • Tomcat

The GOP plan, if Obama wanted it, it cannot be any good.

        • Tomcat

Or in layman’s terms, the unblackening of the WHITEHOUSE

          • Tomcat

            Actually the unblackening of America.

It is not lying, per se, that Donnie reacts to, but rather rather the idea that somebody has deceived him.

    • SoCalGal20

Well, this is a surprise – NOT. Too bad he has an entire political structure that is currently enabling him.

    • Ross

I have mentioned this previously, but I worked for Trump in the late 1980s for two years.

The man has a temper, yes.

      Worse? Much MUCH worse?

He is incredibly easy to manipulate. All you have to do is flatter him. And while saying “Mr. Trump! I love your tie” you can simultaneously push a new contract in front of him to sign. And he will sign it (without reading it) as long as you continue to flatter. His eyes actually glaze over with pleasure as he receives flattery.

      I am serious.

      • safari

I don’t want to see him with glazed over eyes.

      • jimbo65

Yep, that sounds like an utter narcissist. It’s funny how it never occurs to him that people that are flattering him might be trying to manipulate him. In effect controlling him, something he apparently abhors.

        • Ross

He is SO desperate for flattery/approval that he is incapable of seeing how it can (and is) used against him.

          • -M-

And Russia has been grooming him for decades.

        • -M-

O/T: Who the hell knows what Steve Bannon is up to. But he did say a lot tonight.
    https://twitter.com/jonathanvswan/status/897997990920683520

    • -M-

      Sure he did. 🙄

    • Someone in the WH likely said, “Dude, you just pulled a Scaramucci. And you kept going on and on as if YOU are the President, making all of the policy and strategy decisions, and not President Trump. You may have just signed your own pink slip.”

      • Ross

        …may?

        • Yes, ‘may.’ Mooch was a newcomer, a brash interloper. Bannon is like a tick who’s dug in so far, he’s in the muscle tissue. Donald appears to fear Bannon more than he does anyone else.

And that’s likely because Bannon’s been in the inner-inner circle from the very beginning.

          • Ross

Well, you might be correct but Hell hath no fury like a little Donnie who thinks he is being upstaged.

          • True-true-true.

          • Ross

            Hugs!

      • Cuberly

        You think so?

A stray thought: If Bannon wants to command the alt-right, he can do so now without Donald. Quitting wouldn’t work at this exact moment. Getting fired would since Donald is already a “cuck” appologist.

Considering how promptly he sought out the reporter I gotta call bs. Was this one more racist anti-globalist bone to throw at the Richard Spencers out there? He basically gave a white nationalist interview. It hits all their spots.

This is getting unnerving. Day 6, and still no Bible thumpers. Maybe there absence is just one more part of the reaction that Heather could not have possibly seen as possible. Thank you to her. I’ve heard it said that this is all “too little, too late.” I disagree. I’ve lived here for over 50 years, and to see this sort of reaction/upheaval is truly astounding. It’s like the 60s in less that a week.

    • Tomcat

No they were on Fox yesterday defending trumps speech.

      • Ken M

Gratefully, or not, many TV stations were just coming into existence back then. The anti war demonstration were still being handled as crazy people. Fox is lucky to be getting away with what are broadcasting. With any luck, their ratings will hurt for it.

Last week, while I took vacation time, I found myself unable to watch news from time to time. I’d sign on here and love reading but felt unable to say anything of worth because events kept leaving me feeling increasingly gutted and speechless. And then Charlottesville. Shock, horror and a whole lot of feelings I had no word for. Then Trump’s speeches. More shock and horror. At times, just plain despair. But these things pass and I’m getting my wind back. It was just such a comfort to come here and read you all.

    • SoCalGal20

    • Grumpy Old Man

Last week I took time to get a year older and hide deep in the BitterRoot Mountains in Montana. No internet, no cell, no landlines – just clean (mostly) mountain air. We moved water sources from a smallish, muddy creed to a smallish fast moving creek. We are getting old so we used an electric log-splitter instead of axes to stack firewood. I wandered around reliving the 50 years of cabin life of my youth. To be honest, I would rather split the wood with an axe but my sister does not believe that I am immortal and would not let me (it is her cabin now).
Sigh. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/5dd56b9c74918a17f6b805cb7618f57c383b3c022e0dfca5a4b2958cb8a6175a.jpg This is the deck in back – due to local anomalies care must be taken while transitioning from inside to outside.

Phoenix mayor wants chump to cancel his rally, but he’s a democrat. Any bets chump doesn’t give a dam and will have it anyway?

Any bets there will be deaths?

        There will be deaths.

Arizona is the land of McCain. Let Trump have his rally. In the end, he will pay for it, one way or another.

      • SoCalGal20

What do you want to bet he’s going to make digs at McCain at that rally?

        • Ken M

Let him. At this point he’s only digging his own grave. McCain isn’t likely to be around to run again, and his replacement has to be same party (state law.) It will simply solidify the wall already forming in DC. Let his raise money for 2020. I’ll doubt Trump will see it.

    • SoCalGal20

(sorry i’m about to yell) – WHY IN THE FUCK IS IT NOW CONSIDERED NORMAL FOR A PRESIDENT TO HAVE THESE FUCKING RALLIES? WHY ARE ALL THE “SERIOUS” MEDIA OUTLETS & PUNDITS JUST ACCEPTING THIS AS NORMAL? GAH!!!

      • Witnessing someone in the throes of psychosis-level narcissistic personality disorder, the rallies make total sense. The worse things get, the worse the shame, the more desperate the insatiable appetite for praise and cheering crowds.

You’re right though: The real insanity is news media and pundits acting as if this is merely quirky, or reacting not at all.

          • Octavio

Rainer Werner Fassbinder’s last film based on Jean Genet’s Querelle de Brest is rather amazing. I need to seek that out and watch it again. Haven’t seen it since 1982. Moreau was soooooo Moreau.

          • David Walker

Aye. And Brad was soooooooooooooooooooooo Brad.

          • Octavio

Well, Jules and Jim was her giant film in the early 60s. But Louis Malle’s Ascenseur pour L’Echafaud is pretty good too. I love Luis Buñuel’s Diary of a Chambermaid. But then, I like everything Bunuel made.

Moreau was THE actress of the French New Wave, so it’s easy to find her in lots of interesting films. However, the French New Wave is an acquired taste. It’s sort of like you had to be there to grasp it all.

          • safari

I won’t grasp the full flavor, but it will at least give me an access point to it. I don’t even know what “French New Wave” is?

          • Octavio

It’s worth investigating. It started in the early 1950s and sort of ended in the late 60s – early 70s. Lots of good films. Lots of good directors. Francois Truffaut, for example . . . and Luis Malle, Jean Douchet, Roger Vadim . . . there’s just a bunch of them.

I had such a romantic crush on the actor Alain Delon . . . oh my breaking heart! Thump, thump, thump.

          • JCF

“Moreau was THE actress of the French New Wave”

How does she compare to Deneuve?

          • Octavio

Deneuve, the most beautiful woman in the world (except for Sophia Loren) came late to the New Wave. She appears in a few later New Wave films, but she’s more well known as just the icon that she is. I hear she smells of Chanel #5. 🙂

From Wikipedia: In 2001, the television series Son of God used one of three first-century Jewish skulls from a leading department of forensic science in Israel to depict Jesus in a new way. A face was constructed using forensic anthropology by Richard Neave, a retired medical artist from the Unit of Art in Medicine at the University of Manchester. The face that Neave constructed suggested that Jesus would have had a broad face and large nose, and differed significantly from the traditional depictions of Jesus in renaissance art. Additional information about Jesus’ skin color and hair was provided by Mark Goodacre, a New Testament scholar and professor at Duke University. Using third-century images from a synagogue—the earliest pictures of Jewish people[75]—Goodacre proposed that Jesus’ skin color would have been darker and swarthier than his traditional Western image. He also suggested that he would have had short, curly hair and a short cropped beard. This is also confirmed in the First Epistle to the Corinthians, where Paul the Apostle states that it is “disgraceful” for a man to have long hair. As Paul knew many of the disciples and members of Jesus’ family, it is unlikely that he would have written such a thing had Jesus had long hair. Although not literally the face of Jesus, the result of the study determined that Jesus’ skin would have been more olive-colored than white, and that he would have looked like a typical Galilean Semite.

    • SoCalGal20

Why is Jake Tapper only posting that now? Taylor Lorenz tweeted that on Saturday. And people were angry and tensions were high, so I’m not terribly surprised some people even on the left took it out on press. So while I agree it’s not cool I do wonder why he’s just bringing this up now.

      • Ninja0980

Not sure why he’s bringing it up now but our side attacking the press..nope.

        • Cuberly

Our side? Noononononono….I am NOT anti-fa, or black bloc. NEVER. They are NOT our side. Note the injured reporter singles out anti-fa.

Anti-fa has a stated goal that peaceful resistance has failed, they say violence is relevant.

          • SoCalGal20

It’s too bad antifa can’t be a little more focused in their violence. They DID help those clergy that were getting attacked by the Nazis on Saturday morning, It’s a good thing they were there when the police was just standing around while the Nazis were beating on people. But then, OF COURSE, they have to do shit like hitting press or other unproductive things.

          • Cuberly

Anti-fa and lost white young alt-right gamergate acolytes. Unfortunately they’re attracted to the same things. The alternate thrill of it all.

          • Lumpy Gaga

Did you actually watch it? If there was any lawbreaking, it was long over by the time the Hill reporter was attacked at the conclusion of an hour-plus feed.

However, right before the unexpected assault, there was one little power-mad twerp circulating through the crowd confronting anyone who was filming; covering phones with his hands, responding passive-aggressively, generally being a dick.

General Lee fought against the United States of America. End of Argument.

      • Yeah. False moral equivalence is among the most pernicious of dishonest rhetoric.

        • safari

And when repeated it works. Unfortunately.

      • JCF

Yeah, “Both saved America”—say what now?

    • Both owned slaves: True. But one of them owned slaves half a century later as humanity was waking up to the evils of slavery but decided against the moral choice. A more apt and historically accurate comparison would be to ask, “Did McClelland, Sherman, Grant, or Lincoln own slaves?” The answer is no.

Both rebelled against the ruling government: True. But one helped found America, and the other sought to tear it literally in half. And Lee’s half was to perpetuate slavery.

Both men’s battle tactics are still taught at West Point: I’m sure even Nazi and Soviet battle techniques are taught. Not relevant.

Both saved America: WRONG. One founded America, and as I said, the other took up arms to destroy it, in the name of perpetuating slavery.

The last two statements make no sense at all. One might just as well say, “Both were human males.” And yeah, it’s easy to admire a man who at least helped build an imperfect nation and condemn the one who fought for slavery.

    • coram nobis

      Both owned slaves? Okay.
Both rebelled against the ruling gov’t? Okay.
Both men’s battle tactics are still taught at West Point? Well, yes, so are those of Rommel and Vo Nguyen Giap, among others. So what?
      Both saved America? WTFF?
Both were great men, great Americans, and great commanders. Famous, okay.
Neither man is any different? That’s not how you spell “Napoleon,” neither man had people impaled like Shaka Zulu, and I have no idea why they’re “any different” than a young Macedonian bisexual or an ancient Egyptian.
You cannot be against Lee and for Washington. Who sez?

      1) Isn’t half as smart as he thinks or drunk-dials random journalists
      2) Believes he’s invulnerable

As for #2 there, it could be it’s nothing but hubris and a belief he can say anything and Donald will have his back. Or as some have theorized, Bannon has dirt on Donald and is willing to release it if crossed, maybe even a copy of the Russian pee-pee tapes.

I’m 59 – I know my medical history. My parents are in their mid-80s and of course I know theirs too. My grandparents are all dead, and except for the one who was killed fighting Nazis, we know their medical history.

      • Lazycrockett

While doing some family research I figured out that my great great grandmother husband disappeared during the civil war, no wasn’t killed and the family was divided and she ended up living as a semi servant with a couple of her younger children in a wealthier family in KY. This was actually quite common at the time according to census reports. During this time either through rape or an affair my great grandfather was born. When I started figuring this out the Uncles, Aunts and Dad was very evasive bout all of this and still refuse to address it.

        • Lazycrockett

Oh and the kicker is from what I’ve pieced together through online sites, she killed the MF who got her pregnant. That is according to the family that should be my last name.

          • safari

And they still don’t talk about it?

          • Lazycrockett

No, they all get very vague and silent bout it. I think its fucking fascinating and would love to know more, but everything is just basically a dead end. Family history has pretty much wiped out what really happened and census records are hit or miss. Plus its long enough down the road that reality has been covered up by make believe to figure out what is actually true.

          • Lazycrockett

Also Sarah the great great seems like a very interesting character. She “appears” in Kentucky, cant find a damn thing bout her side of the family, marries R. has several children then he just ups and disappears. His side of the family says he died in the CW but there are no records proving this. Sarah separates her children among his kin and takes this servant gig. The great thing is that there is a picture of the dead guy, she shot surround with his children. Hes in a casket and the kids are around it. Bizarre as fuck. The youngest is my great grandfather. So its all kinda there in broad daylight but its not discussed.

          • Lazycrockett

Basically my last name is the the guy who disappeared during the CW and not that MF that got her pregnant.

          • Reality.Bites

If my great great grandmother had killed a rapist who got her pregnant you couldn’t get my family to shut up about it!

        • Treant

On my mother’s father’s side, my great-great-grandfather has a very blank spot for his father, who is not known in the family. Classically, the local expression was, “the mule kicked him out of the wall,” which means, in modern terms, “bastard.”

So one-sixteenth of my genes could be something interesting, I suppose…

        • fuzzybits

My last name should be different than what it is. My sister has done some the research. Our great grandfather took his wife’s last name. We have never been able to find out why. We either think criminal or moonshine.

          • Lazycrockett

Back in the day and Im not trying to be all Mad Men, you could totally get away with re inventing yourself.

          • Reality.Bites

Why not go for forward-thinking couple?

You know my mother recently had an epiphany. One of her uncles wasn’t really temperamentally suited for employment. Don’t really know why – he died when I was around 9.

She operated a small retail store. He took care of the house, did most of the cooking, helped at the store when necessary, etc.

Me, being a small gay child, never thought there was anything odd about their arrangement. Still don’t. It just struck my mother recently that he was a househusband and that today no one would think it odd.

So she’s caught up to where I was half a century ago, LOL.

        • jerry

My mother was doing research on both sides of our family (1980s), and a few dates didn’t add up for great-great grandparents on my paternal grandmother’s side…so my mother occasionally asked her about this and, finally after 10 years, my grandmother admitted that her grandparents had been (gasp) divorced! This was around 1915 and was quite a scandal at the time, and happened because the grandmother had an affair and became pregnant by a neighbor, who she married after the divorce. So even 70-some years after the fact, family can be funny and evasive about these things.

      • Reality.Bites

If you had a threesome with me and my boyfriend you could have a little Greek, Cypriot and Jewish in you. 😉

(I suspect there’s a lot of Eastern European in there, based on my appearance but none of it’s the result of known marriages or liaisons in the last few generations.)

      • jerry

Even 100% European, the further you go back, has Jewish and other middle-eastern mixed in. And with these tests, it also depends on whether you’re male or female (no y chromosomes)…my sister got her results back and it didn’t show any Native American (3rd g. grandmother), because it came from a paternal line.

This is outrageous, and increasingly frightening.

After a terrifying ordeal of being held up at gunpoint 26 years ago, my first response was to get rid of that fucking gun…which was, at the time of my victimization, 15 miles away….and unloaded. It took years before I could sit through a movie or t.v. show where there was any gun violence. That was exacerbated 9 yrs. later by my eldest brothers suicide.

      There is no “alt-right”.

        • SoCalGal20

Fingers crossed it’s because Mueller is closing in. 🙂

          Dump IS an inflamed hemorrhoid.

There’s mysterious news about someone on Mueller’s team leaving the investigation. No one knows why–unlike the Nazi FAT MOUTH, they’re not talking:

        Mueller’s Team Takes a Hit

Robert Mueller has assembled an all-star team of lawyers and law enforcement pros as he investigates Russiagate, and anything else that strikes his fancy. One of the all-stars has been sent to the showers, however. It’s veteran FBI agent Peter Strzok, who is an expert in counterespionage and counterintelligence. He’s handled high-profile investigations before, including leading the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s e-mail server, so it is not likely the pressure got to him. Maybe there was a conflict of personalities, or over the direction of the investigation, or maybe his skills proved to be less useful than expected. For now, nobody’s talking.

Well, he was handed a subpoena the other day, so…

    • Eli Bradley

For someone supposed to be focusing on infrastructure, he sure is burning a lot of bridges…

Trump lashing out at Republicans this morning during what many people are calling a particularly difficult bowel movement

    • billbear1961

Can’t that Nazi terrorist STFU for even HALF a DAY?!

      • Skeptical_Inquirer

I wonder how Donald is sneaking coke into the White House.

        • joe ho

Drugs or alcohol might do him some good. He’s a teetotaler.

    • JCF

Good, good, attack fellow Republicans. Excellent!

      • BobSF_94117

You’d think that Republicans would wake up and realize that a fascist has hijacked their party.

    • djcoastermark

A particularly difficult….. Sam, I LOVE that. I had my first good chuckle today.

In some good news Malala is off to Oxford!

    • JCF

Wait, I thought she was going to Harvard?

Nevermind, I thought you meant MALIA! (As in Obama 😉 )

      There’s a couple young women I expect will change the world… 😀

      • billbear1961

Wouldn’t you rather go to Britain, at least, at the moment?

      • Dazzer

To be honest, she’ll probably do both. She’ll do her undergrad at Oxford and her post-grad at Harvard.

  • SoCalGal20

The counterprotesters not having a permit is a lie.

OT— One last thing before I say goodnight: I heard about this song (via NPR story, here: http://www.npr.org/2017/08/16/543693000/a-greek-summer-hit-fills-a-generation-with-hope )

It’s really a great, catchy song (for someone dykey like me, w/ niiiice visuals! ;-D). And, as the NPR story says, even if you can’t understand Greek, fills one w/ hope (and don’t we all need some more hope these days?)

    Mantissa, by Marina Satti. Enjoy!

Here’s a lyric translation I was able to find: https://www.musixmatch.com/lyrics/Marina-Satti/Mantissa/translation/english

      • Dazzer

It’s really great. Thanks for posting it. It’s just past midday in the UK and that song gave a real kick to the afternoon. 🙂

        • JCF

You’re welcome. Good (late) night from California!

          • Dazzer

May angels waft you to the arms of Morpheus and rouse you in the morning with sweet butterfly kisses. And may your path tomorrow be strewn with rose petals (and winning lottery tickets).

          • JCF

Thx, I did sleep well! (Will see about the lottery tickets). Now, I’ll count myself a winner w/ some coffee…

    • beariac

Nice, thanks. Here’s one I find uplifting in return. (Spoiler: it’s a bit more chilled and bear friendly :P)

Just another morning, this will be the one when I had to stop myself 3/4 through from reading the article where Americans expressed their revulsion for The President’s affection for nazis and the kkk.

    Good Morning!
So, I see DT is at it already, calling out Graham as a “publicity seeking” politician? [snort] Yeah, it’s gonna be a day.

    • Stubenville

Oh puhleeze girlfriend; you’re the biggest attention whore of all time.

      • AJ Drew

Well, I don’t shy away from a moment or two in the spotlight, but… oooh, you meant DT. Yes, agreed!

  • grada3784

You cannot be against General Lee and be for General Washington,” the
email reads, “there literally is no difference between the two men.”

    Just a small one.

Washington did not take up arms against the Republic; Lee did.

    • JT

Typical wingnut bullshit of false equivalencies.

  • billbear1961
    • Dazzer

      Poignant and witty.

The really weird thing is that the cartoon made me seriously wonder if Sadam Hussein was a better president than Donald Trump.

My moral world has been so incredibly fucked up by Trump.

    • JWC

there will never be a staute to Trump

      • Cucker “Dick” Tarlson

    Height of stupidity.

If they were, the FBI has just been hampered by this announcement.

  • 2patricius2

Ah, yes. Rather than admit that the Republican Party from bottom to top is full of white supremacists and terrorists, this character has to claim that BLM is infiltrated with terrorists.

    • Amanda B. Rekendwith

To be fair, pointing at others IS what they do best.
(In fact, it seems to be ALL they do).

      • 2patricius2

Yep. It is all they can do, trying to deflect from themselves.

  • kareemachan

Merde, this guy is as crazy as drumpster.
