Pizzagate Troll Retweeted By Trump Revealed As Navy Reserve Officer With Suspended Security Clearance

NBC News reports:

A right-wing activist who brought attention to debunked conspiracy theories — and who gained new prominence when he was retweeted by President Donald Trump this week — is a U.S. naval intelligence officer detailed to a reserve unit, Navy service records show.

John Michael Posobiec III’s security clearance is currently suspended, according to a U.S. official, who did not disclose the reason for the suspension.

Posobiec, who goes by Jack, is a lieutenant junior grade in the U.S. Navy Reserves, assigned to Joint Reserve Intelligence Support Element Dekalb. From March 2014 through March 2017 he was assigned to a Reserve Intelligence Unit at Office of Naval Intelligence’s Naval Maritime Intelligence Center in Washington.

He sometimes refers to his military service, most recently in a video posted this week in which he said it showed he is not a racist. Although he referred to multiple overseas deployments, his service record shows one: 10 months in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, starting Sept. 11, 2012.

  • Judas Peckerwood

“He sometimes refers to his military service, most recently in a video posted this week in which he said it showed he is not a racist.”

Yes, because racists like Hitler and Robert E. Lee have never served in the military.

    • edrex

in fairness, no member of the trump family has.

      • Todd20036

True, but Trump did suffer his own personal Vietnam by avoiding STDs.

        • David Walker

I admire its courage so much. Between that and the 5 deferments, it is inarguably the bravest, most eloquent, fairest, and most presidential of all presidents ever anywhere.

          • MT YVR

I just realized. His speech pattern?

Take a bunch of magnetic words. Like a thousand sets of the magnetic poetry crap. And just… cannon them against a metal surface.

“A thousand lines of Trump, stumbled across by a thousand Trump speeches and eventually it’ll sound like it’s in some language.”

          • UrsusArctos

That’s where some serious questions have come up about cognitive deficits increasing. If you see video of a young 45*, he’s actually fairly glib (bloviates, but glib). Gradually he spouts memorized “hot button” phrases and words almost at random. His Dad’s Alzheimers is in the mix.

        • Cattleya1

Who says he avoided them? Just him and he is not the most reliable of sources. I, personally, think he is the poster child for neurosyphilis.

          • clay

True, it’s not really fighting them if he just stayed away.

    • Hitler was a corporal in WW1.

Trumpizzi will promote him to Admiral or something and put him on the Whitehouse staff, no doubt.

I don’t know what’s funnier. That he got maced twice in two days or that he thinks communists are a real threat.

    • unsavedheathen

The most frightening thing to me about this guy was that he spoke in complete sentences and presented his thoughts in logical progression… while disarming himself of six or seven concealed weapons.

  • Gitmo. It just fucking figures.

I hope the Navy Reserve goes after him for conduct unbecoming.

So, what, 30 people signed up? It’s less shitting themselves than, simply, not very popular and don’t have many bodies.

      • theonlyseven

That’s the beauty of it. Instead of admitting it was going to be a dud they claim they are in fear of their lives. These weaklings would rather play the victim card than admit how unpopular they are.

    • The_Wretched

As hatefilled and awful as these ‘alt-right’ types are; they seem really soft on deliverying. I’m not exactly complaining but if you’re going to front as hardass best to not waffle like a marshmallow noodle.

      • theonlyseven

It’s because their hate is rooted in fear. They are in perpetual fear of nearly everything they encounter as well as things they imagine. Hell, they are even afraid if the deity they worship.

    • UrsusArctos

They screw with Google at their own risk. Their browsing and search histories would get most of them drummed out of jobs, society at large, and their mother’s basement.

  • Ninja0980

My late and not so great neighbor was a racist, sexist asshole who hid behind his military service if anyone called him out.
He was an asshole and so is this guy.
And wearing a uniform doesn’t change that.

    • Princess Lardass

It happens with religion too. Some homophobic twit opens his/her mouth and then hides behind religion when s/he’s called out on it.

Altho…..’Best in Show’ keeps coming to mind. LOL

Have you talked with my mother about having grandkids?

          • DaMoldBrok

I run dog shows, Best In Show was meant to be a ‘mockumentary’, no, it was a ‘documentary’. I know most of the people that they used the names of, people they used that show dogs and the actual judges that they used.

      • PickyPecker

We had a cat many moons ago. Boo-boo kittty. BIIIG tabby. Since him, we have been a dog household. Just one for now, but we’ll see.

        • NZArtist

Cats and dogs aren’t exclusive. I have a cat as well as the dogs. But the cat definitely needs to have safe-spaces the dogs cant get to. Mine has a giant cat climbing tower to get away from snuffling dog noses.

          • PickyPecker

Understood on safe spaces. We have an African Gray parrot (thus the need to start again with a puppy – gotta know who’s in charge, etc.)

          • vorpal 😼

LOL in our house, we had the opposite problem: our poor dog couldn’t get away from our extremely sociable, loving orange monstrosity of a tabby. The tabby was convinced that they were best friends and followed our doggie everywhere. Our dog did not seem to share the feeling and kept trying to escape.

🙂 She’s working up to it. She’s English Mastiff. Much the same personality as Saint Bernards, but less fluff to vacuum up.

          • PickyPecker

We considered a Mastiff. But the nearest breeder was pretty far away. Besides, we adored our last Saint so, so much.

          • NZArtist

I know what you mean. Saint Bernards are significant dogs. They have a huge personality. Life is too short to live without a giant dog on your couch.

          • PickyPecker

Since we moved here to the countryside, a favorite passtime evenings during fine weather has been to hang on the porch; have some beers and enourage the Saint to bark at the ‘yuppie-ish’ type bikeriders passing by (a distance away). We call it ‘giving them the total ‘country’ experience.’ Only thing missing would have been putting him on the porch roof. LOL

      • Octavio

Is she a mastiff or bull mastiff? I had a bull mastiff named Alex (short for Alexandra). She only got to about 165 pounds (mostly fat). Quite the slobber dog and so loyal and loving she owned my heart. She had two party tricks: 1. she liked to drink white wine (chablis), as much as she could get her paws on, and 2. she covered the entire house with thick, viscous slobber. The poor dear. Sometimes people would give her so much wine she would be hungover for two days. I don’t think Alex ever realized she was a dog. She seemed convinced we were going to buy her a fancy posh frock and host a Quinceañera when she turned 15. I sooooo miss that dog. Lucky you!

        • NZArtist

She’s a pure English Mastiff. When she’s fully grown she’ll be around 80kg (176 pounds).

          • Octavio

Ah, memories of giant dead spots in neighbors’ lawn everywhere Alex decided to pee. Those were the days.

Just the whole AXIOS post just put up, because it’s worth reading:

On Tuesday night, while Gary Cohn was
fuming about President Trump’s latest comments, Steve Bannon was
excitedly telling friends and associates that the “globalists” were in
    mass freakout mode.

Today, Bannon reveled in the disbanding of the president’s business council,
seeing this as yet more evidence that the Trump administration is at
odds with the “Davos crowd,” as Bannon often calls these corporate
elites, in a voice dripping with contempt.

Bannon saw Trump’s now-infamous Tuesday afternoon press conference
not as the lowest point in his presidency, but as a “defining moment,”
where Trump decided to fully abandon the “globalists” and side with “his
    people.”

Per a source with knowledge: “Steve was proud of how [Trump] stood up to the braying mob of reporters” in the Tuesday press conference.

This account of Bannon’s thinking has come from conversations with his friends and associates who’ve been in touch with him since the racist carnage in Charlottesville.

Bannon has not meaningfully advised the president about his response to Charlottesville. He’s still on the outs with Trump, who has been calling him a leaker for weeks, though the president described Bannon as a good person on Tuesday.

They spoke by phone on Saturday, Sunday and Monday,
according to a source with knowledge of the calls, but the response to
Charlottesville has been all Trump, and Trump at his purest.

On the phone to Bannon, Trump asked his chief strategist “where does it end?” according to a source with knowledge of their conversations.

Trump wasn’t referring to the white supremacists, but to the counter-protesters whom the president believes are on a slippery slope towards “changing history” by tearing down monuments of Confederate heroes and potentially, he has said, the Founding Fathers like George Washington, who owned slaves.

Bannon, who is in New York today, has a view of Trump’s Charlottesville response that horrifies many of his West Wing colleagues: Unlike some of Trump’s other top aides— who have varied on a spectrum between frustration and disgust since
the president’s Charlottesville remarks — Bannon has unapologetically
supported Trump’s instinct to apportion blame to “both sides.”

Sources who’ve spoken with Bannon since Charlottesville say he views this moment as analogous to the campaign moment when Hillary Clinton condemned half of Trump’s supporters to a “basket of deplorables.”

Bannon believes that if Trump condemned all the people who protested the pulling down of the Robert E. Lee statue then he’d fall into a trap set by leftists, the establishments of both parties, and the mainstream media. (Some of Bannon’s colleagues say this is an absurd argument. They point out it was a crowd of white supremacists holding tiki torches and chanting racist slogans, and that this is no
time for the president to be searching for the “fine people” in the
group. They say Trump should be condemning the tiki torch crowd
unequivocally and leaving the debate over statues and free speech to
    another, less racially-heated, day.)

    Bottom line:
Both Trump and Bannon are of one mind, and, within the White House at
least, theirs is a minority view. They saw the backlash to
Charlottesville as an example of political correctness run amok and
instinctively searched for “their” people in that group of protesters.
Bannon has told associates that Trump, on Tuesday afternoon, took it to
the next level for the country by asking where does it end? He
especially loved Trump’s line: “I wonder, is it George Washington next
    week?”

    • Treant

Isolate him, protest him, and that will destroy him.

      • Here’s the thing, self-serving crypto-fascists like Bannon are doing what they can deliberately to isolate Donald from any voices of reason or self-restraint. That enables him to direct and control Donald.

I’ll say this much: Kelly started off with a bit of promise, but it’s clear he’s no match for the rabid wolves Donald brought into the WH with him.

        • Treant

Ultimately, I can’t see that strategy working out too well for Bannon or Trump. Isolation doesn’t change the reality of the situation, and some of that will leak through regardless.

Now mind, Trump is both demented and crazy, so it’s unlikely to have too much impact. But in that case, with no grounding influence, he’s simply going to get crazier.

          • geoffalnutt

Trump does and says what he wants whenever he wants. Bannon’s up against the same things as everyone else is. Oops.

    • clay

      I know it’s a minor point, but . . . “while Gary Cohn was fuming about President Trump’s latest comments,” . . .

Cohn was nervous as soon as Trump began speaking about infrastructure– they all knew where this was going before the elevator doors opened.

    • ‘Globalists’ = dog-whistle for ‘international Jewish conspiracy.’

      • clay

It was a bizarre level of hypocrisy for Trump to be bitching about companies making money overseas this morning. We know it had nothing to do with international business as they cling to Canadian trade in the NAFTA re-negotiations.

      • Cattleya1

I’m half Jewish (but it’s my Mom, so I get full credit). When do I get to get in on this ‘international Jewish conspiracy’… So far I’ve got all of the guilt, and none of the benefits.

Is there a “Jewish Lobby” like the “Gay Lobby?” Maybee you’ve been missing the cocktail hours in “the lobby” ask around maybe there is a secret code to get in?

          • sfbob

There are two (I really hate this expression but I suppose it fits) “Jewish Lobbies.”. AIPAC is the more establishment one, famously effective and unfortunately really, really reluctant to criticize Israel’s government. Other than that they are moderately progressive and are good when it comes to calling out anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry. They do have a tendency to conflate criticism of Israel anti-Semitism.

The other is J Street which tends to skew more progressive and does not hesitate to criticize Israel’s government policies. They have the ear of at least some progressives in Congress. J Street has the ear of young Jewish-Americans whose views on Israel are far more diverse than those of people my age and older.

I am Jewish (on both sides; I definitely get full credit there). I am barely observant but I do belong to a synagogue, attend services occasionally and have some friends from the congregation. A couple of my older friends are enthusiastic supporters of AIPAC; none of the ones under 60 seem to be.

          • Ginger Snap

So great information that I did not know but my post was snark who knew there was a real Jewish Lobby. Thank you.

P.S. pleas tell me you know the “Gay Lobby” joke here on JMG?

          • sfbob

I’ve been coming here for years and years and yet for some reason it isn’t jogging my (slowly deteriorating) memory. Which I actually think is kinda scary.

          • Ginger Snap

During the marriage equality fight the religious right were always accusing us of our “Gay Lobby” to push our agenda. The joke became we are meeting at the “Gay Lobby” for cocktails to destroy “straight marriage.”

Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis = the opposite.

We can criticize Washington and Jefferson for being slave holders, but we can also recognize their part in the formation of the country and its principles. Davis, Lee, Jackson, et al….not so much.

OT: Just heard that Baltimore Mayor Larry Hogan did a smart thing. He had the statue of Chief Justice Roger B. Taney taken down in the middle of the night when no one was looking.

From the Wiki of Pedias: “[Hogan] . . . delivered the majority opinion in Dred Scott v. Sandford (1857), that ruled, among other things, that African-Americans, having been considered inferior at the time the United States Constitution was drafted, were not part of the original community of citizens and, whether free or slave, could not be considered citizens of the United States, which created an uproar among abolitionists and the free states of the northern U.S.” Mayor Hogan is smart.

    • jimbo65

From this point forward, that’s how it should be done. Should save a lot of headaches.

    • CB

      And hence the “strict constructionists.”

    • jmax

I believe it was Taney, not Hogan, who delivered the Dred Scott decision.

      • Octavio

You are correct. I thought Hogan was the mayor of Baltimore. But, no. I obviously head it wrong. But one of the statues was of Taney. 🙂

    • Jukesgrrl

All four of the Civil War statues in Baltimore were all taken down in one night. Wrapped up in black tarps and carted away. Rachel Maddow said, “Who says municipal governments can’t get things done?!” Three cheers for all you good-hearted hons in Balmer.

    • thatotherjean

The Mayor of Baltimore is Catherine Pugh. Larry Hogan is the Governor of Maryland. Pugh was the one who ordered statues of Roger Taney, Robert E. Lee, and Stonewall Jackson, and ? removed–which makes sense, since Maryland stayed with the Union, no matter what the state song says.
