Pentagon Echoes Trump In Warning To North Korea: Cease Actions Before You Cause Your Own Destruction

The Independent reports:

US Secretary of Defence James Mattis has warned North Korea to “cease any consideration of actions that will lead to the end of the regime and destruction of its people”.

Mr Mattis issued the stern warning one day after the Washington Post reported that North Korea had developed miniaturised nuclear warheads that could be capable of striking the United States.

Echoing President Donald Trump’s bombastic rhetoric from that morning, the Defence Secretary said that North Korea’s actions “will continue to be grossly overmatched by ours,” and that the country would “lose any arms race or conflict it initiates”.

The US and its allies “possess the most precise, rehearsed, and robust defensive and offensive capabilities on Earth,” Mr Mattis said during a trip to America’s west coast.

    • ultragreen

The article about North Korea being able to miniaturize nuclear bombs to fit inside nuclear warheads may have been planted by US intelligence to make the American public more open to a preemptive strike against North Korea. The timing of this article’s appearance and the rhetoric coming out of this administration is very suspicious.

I agree that a Hillary administration would have been more hawkish — maybe even significantly more hawkish — than I would like. However, I think it’s safe to say that we would not be fearing nuclear war (and possibly worldwide nuclear war) with her in the White House.
On the other hand, I’m also not sure why the views of Hillary — who is no longer involved in public affairs and has not shown any sign that she intends to become involved in the future — are particularly relevant to this discussion.

Look on the bright side. The population of the bunkers won’t be much more than the low dozens, with the society reverting to strongman tactics. Donnie won’t flourish there, nobody works for long with a bullshitter and they require large audiences.

It’s a short, short road from closing the doors to social breakdown to insanity to death for all but a few people in there. Then it’s a long road from that to complete mental destabilization and the eventual extinction of humanity.

“If you attack first, you will cease to exist as a nation” rhetoric is not new and I see nothing particularly wrong with it.

      • Uncle Mark

Actually, he is threatening them from even considering such action. (Testing could be argued as improving their self-defense.). However N Korea’s considerations are being relayed in Kim’s bombastic threats to attack Guam or US cities.

        • BobSF_94117

I was typing too fast. Yes, he’s threatening them if they think about attacking, which they already did by mentioning Guam.

“Be polite, be professional, but have a plan to kill everybody you meet.”
