Trump Warns North Korea: “They Will Be Met With Fire And Fury Like The World Has Never Seen” [VIDEO]

Do you feel reassured? CBS News reports:

President Trump addressed the ongoing crisis between the U.S. and North Korea at a briefing on opioids in New Jersey on Tuesday, issuing a stern warning to the regime for its continued provocations. “North Korea best not make any more threats to the United States,” warned Mr. Trump from his golf club in Bedminster.

“They will be met with fire and fury like the world has never seen,” he told reporters. “He has been very threatening,” Mr. Trump said of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. “As I said, they will be met with fire, fury and frankly power the likes of which this world has never seen before.”

Mr. Trump’s comments come amid reports that a U.S. intelligence assessment concluded North Korea has developed the ability to build a nuclear warhead small enough to fit on top of a ballistic missile, including an intercontinental missile that can reach the United States, CBS News’ David Martin confirmed.

Obama had diplomacy, too…and that did not stop NK from sinking ROKS Cheonan in March 2010. No one did anything about that, so why wouldn’t NK keep pushing the envelope? But I think Kim Jong Un’s survival instinct will prevail.

I’ve been a Vera Lynn fan for decades! She was known as “England’s Singing Sweetheart” during WWII. Side note: I was in Sacramento in what I assumed to be the Gayborhood back in the late 70’s. There was a Gay bar near some railroad tracks. My friend and I went in for a drink and someone put a dime in the jukebox and up came this song. EVERYONE, (there were quite a few people) in the bar started singing along…me, too. A great memory.

Even if Trump (and the generals) agree to a “conventional” strike, the Korean nutballs would probably go nuclear in response – BOOM! South Korea. BOOM! Japan. BOOM. Maybe Hawaii? Maybe farther? Would our anti-nuke systems protect US targets?? I sure don’t want to see them tested in real life. And the scary thing is all this could transpire in less than an hour. Once the buttons are pushed, keys turned…. it’s Dr. Strangelove becoming reality. This scares me more than anything about Trump. He and Kim Jong are both totally fucking nuts.

    • Nowhereman
    • thatotherjean

A whole lot of them will be our allies, though. South Korea and Japan, not to mention China, are in considerably more peril from this mess than we are.

    • Uncle Mark

Twitler’s bellicose threats are nothing more than angry, impotent threats from someone, who clearly has no idea what to do, beyond his default of tired, old threats. N Korea is well-aware that we can turn them into a smoldering heap. You don’t respond to a drama queen by engaging in more ratcheted drama…(sigh). This isn’t WWF wrestling where one engages in smack-talk. Oy…can we get some professional diplomats and generals to take over here…and let our “commander ‘n chief” just play in his golf club’s sandbox?

  • Todd20036

Fun thing is, if Un releases a nuke in retaliation for sanctions, Trump will respond with such overwhelming force that China and Russia will retaliate.

And that will be all, folks.

    • ben-andy

And we’re back to MAD, mutually assured destruction.

      • Todd20036

Yup. Un doesn’t care about that though, and Trump only cares about showing how tough he is.

    • Uncle Mark

I’m less inclined to believe that China or Russia will risk losing Beijing or Moscow over Pyongyang. Any nation that engages in first use of nuclear weapons will be perceived as the bad guy. If this results in our retaliation upon N Korea, I doubt China nor Russia would want to risk getting burned as well. However, Russia would enjoy watching us damaged by N Korea; China not so much, as they thrive in trading with us and investing in our currency. (It’s one of the reasons China started attempts at restraining N Korea when our trade began flourishing.)

  • The_Wretched

    That’s President Bannon talking.

    • Halou

I don’t think so. Bannon’s wet dream is to have there be an almighty war between America and Islam and he wants Russia, North Korea’s once and future benefactor, on the same side. As far as he is concerned this whole nuclear saber rattling is an unwanted interruption.

  • Observations:
    1. Donald can’t even issue a feckless threat without repeating himself.
    2. He’s just guaranteed DPRK will issue more blustering threats against the United States.
    3. “Speak loudly and carry a tiny stick” = U.S. foreign policy under Donald’s malignant presidency. USA’s become a tissue-thin paper tiger.
    4. Sure would be nice to have a State Department, huh? Like one which could rally the world against North Korea without resorting to threats of war alone?
    5. There are two future outcomes possible here. One is where Trump is removed from office ASAP and maybe the adults can put things aright again. The other is these bloodthirsty threats keep escalating until one country or the other finally pushes the launch button…and right now, the likelihood is it’ll be North Korea first.

    • Cipher

Spot on. As to observation 1: The audience is clearly the Trump supporters. We know how they need repetition.

    • boatboy_srq

      4. Sure would be nice to have a State Department, huh? Like one which
could rally the world against North Korea without resorting to threats
      of war alone?

This is anti-MAGA. The Reichwing is still incensed that the UN didn’t buy the Shrubbery’s pile’o’crap about Iraq, and Shrub’s “Coalition of the Willing” sent such a non-self-reliant message. They don’t need no allies.

      5. There are two future outcomes possible here. One is where Trump is removed from office ASAP and maybe the adults can put things aright again. The other is these bloodthirsty threats keep escalating until one country or the other finally pushes the launch button…and right now, the likelihood is it’ll be North Korea first.

There’s a third outcome. The rest of the world, after the first threat-followed-by-inaction event, starts dismissing Lord Dampnut’s ravings as irrelevant, and at some point he becomes deranged enough that some other nation triggers some minor complaint and he finally pushes the button.

    • bzrd

This situation is exactly why I’m pissed every time some news person says, but it took a long time to investigate Watergate.” A break in followed by lying has never equated with the amount of evil doing by the dump and his cohort to the point, now, of the world close to its end. Well, I guess that means Trump isn’t going to be the one to do it? The only piece of legislation he has signed so far has been the one thing he didn’t want to sign, that is not a great indicator of real “power”. No Muslim ban, no wall, no WealthCare. Only Russia sanctions.

      • Gustav2
        • Treant

It didn’t bother me. But it took me decades to figure out why.

These were fairly well-known actors, and the production values were pretty slick. It kept me at second-hand throughout due to that–I always knew I was watching a movie. Bad though it was, it also shielded its viewers from the worst effects of the war; things still worked, albeit poorly.

Threads was rough-hewn, up close, personal, and very, very stark. The final scene is something a lot of people report shows up in their nightmares.

        • MT YVR

At the time I remember this movie clarifying a lot of the conversations going on around me by all the adults. And consequently from this point until 1989 I had nightmares inspired by this movie almost every month.

  • Menergy

why the scariest threats may be coming from inside the White House:
    https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2017/07/department-of-energy-risks-michael-lewis

Stupid people are afraid of smart people. Paradoxically, they think they are far smarter than they actually are. They believe complex problems are actually very simple, that solving them will be so easy.

In a way, the Trump phenomenon has crystalized the fundamental problem with our politics and, by extension, our government: It is not really a matter of Republican vs. Democrat, conservative vs. liberal or even rural vs. urban, it’s stupid vs. smart. Stupid people support authoritarian regimes – whose first acts are typically to marginalize (and then eradicate) the intellectuals. Everything will be just fine as soon as those people who have been saying things you don’t want to hear are gone. And the only government you need is Me. Only I can fix things…

It’s telling that smart conservatives are the ones leaving the Republican Party, or at least openly criticizing it. But that’s not enough. Trump – through his utter, predictable incompetence – may cause more damage than any adversary we’ve faced since World War II. This article is a good start in exposing the threat.

A San Francisco ex-coworker friend mine has another terrifying thought:
That said, the nuclear threat I worry about – and it worries me that I say this in seriousness – is a Trump-engineered detonation in, say, San Francisco. It would kill a lot of people who didn’t vote for Trump, would no doubt please many in the Midwest and South, and would provide the perfect pretext to suspend elections, investigations and habeas corpus. All hail Trump.
Now that is a truly scary scenario! I haven’t brought myself to (allowed my thinking to reach?) that point yet, although this imbecile is capable of most anything unimaginable and reprehensible.

    • Treant

It sounds like “A Carol for Another Christmas.” And it’ll probably end just about as well as that did.

Except it’s fifty years later, our bombs are much more numerous and far larger. Burgess Meredith won’t break his glasses because Burgess’ analog will be blasted to carbon dioxide in the initial exchange.

    • pch1013

“a Trump-engineered detonation in, say, San Francisco”

I have been saying the same thing ever since 11/9/16, much to the annoyance (and concern for my sanity) of those around me here in SF.

Another thing that makes this frighteningly plausible: Trump has no significant business holdings in San Francisco.

    Not helping.

Not true: We nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and plenty of multi megaton weapons were tested.

As usual for the Dumpster fire, the statement is vacuous bluster. ‘fire, fury and frankly power’ equals threatening but meaningless.

    • Todd20036

      Um, no.
Hiroshima and Nagasaki were nuked with kiloton bombs, and no megaton weapons were tested. In fact, those 2 bombs were the only ones we had at the time.

      • Karl Dubhe

The Tsar Bomba was a huge megaton weapon which was tested in the atmosphere in the 1950s or 60s…

There have been about 2 thousand atomic and hydrogen bombs tested since Trinity dawned. 🙁

      • -M-

Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the only times nuclear weapons were used against enemy targets in war. Since their yields were small compared to the thermonuclear weapons comprising the bulk of today’s strategic nuclear arsenals, I also mentioned the more powerful weapons that were developed and tested later.

In the real world, Trump and Mueller shouldn’t be communicating at all. Trump has no business sending Mueller anything he hasn’t asked for. Messages of appreciation are totally out of line, and, frankly, sound nuts, considering the possible results of Mueller’s findings. WTF?

He’s probably trying to get him disqualified over inappropriate communications.

Uh, no. The NK leadership is waaaay crazier than any other country’s. Of course, now that they’ve got the bomb, we have to start being nicer to them. Hope it helps.

I was listening to NPR this morning, where they were talking about Nicolás Maduro installing his own family in his cabinet.
I couldn’t help but think, “That’s just like here!”

          • canoebum

Just like here, except take away all the food, empty the clinics and hospitals of medicine and put the national guard and Federal police on every corner. Btw, Cilia Flores, Maduro’s wife, is worth an estimated 2.4 -3.8 billion dollars. That money is likely mostly his, which he has stolen, and from drug trafficking. Her nephews have been convicted of conspiring to import 800 kilos of cocaine into the US and are now awaiting sentencing in September. The Vice President of Venezuela, a public servant, was sanctioned by the US treasury and found to have about $500 million dollars in assets in the US. Nice work if you can get it. Trump and company are doing basically the same thing, running a kleptocracy, only slightly more sophisticated, using hotels, real estate, and golf resorts to fleece the taxpayers. It’s Mitch McConnell who’s the drug kingpin. His father in law, the father of our current Sec. of Transportation, has been caught smuggling tons of cocaine aboard his ships, most recently in Santa Marta, Colombia.

        • Steve Teeter

Not that unpredictable: South Korea and Japan. NK could take tens, hundreds of thousands of lives, maybe more, just with the conventional weaponry they already have in place. They don’t need nuclear for that. I can easily imagine field officers in the NK army with standing orders to open fire on those two countries at the slightest sign of US action against NK. without waiting for authorization from higher up.

Well, as the sabers are rattling, it’s time to drag out this piece. Composed by Karl Jenkins in 2000, this “Mass” was to celebrate Peace at the start of the 21st Century, by looking back on all the conflicts of the last century. This Kyrie is particularly haunting in this performance conducted by the composer (no, it’s not Captain Kangaroo!), and uses the imagery of war projected behind the performers. In the Kyrie, the clips are of preparing arms for war. In the Christi section, Church imagery is shown, which I always thought of as a sarcasm, as none of the wars were ever prevented by the high minded religious teachings of love your enemies, etc. With the repeat of the Kyrie at the end, the images get more emotional as soldiers actually start leaving for war, and saying goodbye to loved ones (with the unspoken knowledge many may not ever return). The final freeze frame always leaves me very emotional.

Its not our role to let people like him become nuclear powers and threaten OUR lives. Fuck him to death, I will gladly kill him before he kills me. Little Kim will probably obliterate South Korea in his first strike, using conventional weapons. By the time one of his ballistic missiles is launched toward Japan or US territory, much of our nuclear arsenal will be on route to Pyongyang.
