Pop Singer Aaron Carter Comes Out As Bisexual

The New York Post reports:

Aaron Carter came out as bisexual in a revealing Saturday-night Twitter note to fans. “I grew up in this entertainment industry at a very young age and when I was around 13-year-old I started to find boys and girls attractive,” he wrote.

Carter, 29, started off by saying he needed to get something off his chest that was both weighing him down and of importance “for myself and my identity.” It’s been a troubling several months for the young singer. In July, Carter revealed he’s suffering from an eating disorder and was busted for driving under the influence as well.

Carter, the estranged younger brother of Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter, has had two albums go multi-platinum. His most recent hit single peaked at #35 on Billboard’s pop chart in 2000, but he has a massive social media following.

  • David L. Caster

Well good for him. I’m sure he will have a good time exploring his fantasies now that the curtain has been pulled back.

  • Ninja0980

Good for him in finally being able to come out.

  • Treant

That’s great and I’m happy for him, but who? I vaguely remember the Rear Entrance Boys, of course, but still…

    • Steverino

      The Backdoor Boys?

  • JoeMyGod

He was barely a teenager when he had his biggest hit.

    • Gigi

Fame hasn’t been easy for him. Hopefully coming out will put him on the path to acceptance, understanding and eventually, happiness.

      • Todd20036

Fame is rarely easy on kids. It’s nice for them that they’ll never miss a meal again, but other than that, it’s about growing up fast, and dealing with people who have more life experience and take advantage of these kids because of that.

  • Kruhn

    Dibs! I want him to

  • Kruhn

Welcome to the club Aaron. Grab a seat and enjoy the party. The bi crowd is over there and the family welcomes one and all, as long as you cover all of our backs. You know how hard it is to come out of the closet, so help others and embrace them.

  • Rebecca Gardner

    Who is this?

    • another_steve

More importantly, what’s that chazerai (Yiddish: something loathsome) on his neck?

      • Steverino

        An elaborate hickey?

      • Todd20036

Boyish people should not wear tattoos.

        • another_steve
          • Todd20036

He looks like he tried to make himself look more masculine, and failed.

Of course, if he has a tattoo fetish, who am I to judge?

But I’ve seen tattoos work only on extremely masculine appearing men

          • another_steve

“Who am I to judge?” Lol… You sound like Pope Francis, girl. 😉

            But yeah, I agree.

Tats work on butch guys, but on boys… not so well.

          • Todd20036

If he really likes tattoos, then he should go for it, but if he’s trying to masculinize himself then he isn’t convincing anyone.

That’s what I was trying to say

          • RidingTheLine

Some of the tats are well-designed but the seeming randomness of others is not as appealing.

    • Ragnar Lothbrok

      This what I remember :

There is a better version of this..this one sucks lol

  • HZ81

Maybe he should at least use the term bisexual. Sounds like he’s afraid of saying it —and certainly saying “teh gay!’ but each in his own time. Tok me forever to come out, so good on Aaron.

  • JT

Good for him. I’m glad he was able to do this. I hope this makes a significantly positive difference in his life.

    • Treant

..Right in front of my salad.

    • TimCA

And in the lives of others

    • Goodboy
      • Todd20036

        That can’t be good.

        • Goodboy

Especially considering he’s only 29. Reminds me of those before/after pics for meth.

          • Todd20036

Oh crud. That photo makes him look like a tired 35-38 year old.

Put it another way. He’s 20 years my junior, and my avatar was taken during 2017 Pride

            (Sorry that Disqus flipped it)

          • FAEN

          • Goodboy

Yeah, us skinny people probably shouldn’t do hard drugs. You can practically set a egg timer on our aging process..or so I’ve heard:)

          • Todd20036

According to an AOL interval, he has an eating disorder. He’s 5’8″, and 135-140.

That’s not too bad, but if it’s from excessive dieting, he’s borderline.

And yeah, he doesn’t look healthy, which is harsh given his youth

          • My first, admittedly prejudicial thought was “there’s a difference between having an eating disorder and being a malnourished meth-head.” I unfortunately recall a lot of reality tv coverage of the Carter family–sidebar–the elder bother has had a pudge problem and has undergone lipo to suck away some of the fat.

However, as a therapist, I suspect https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/f28bd8231b6aef803133cda14ae6645927b7093a2b727a01c93897d8713ec820.jpg it’s possible his internalized homophobia/biphobia might have led to the self-medication of drug use. Given the historical fights with his older brother, maybe he rebels by being emaciated to thumb his nose at his fat-prone older brother.

As others have suggested, I wish him the best and that his coming out will help others, and I certainly hope his Carter genes finally kick in and he gains some weight 🙂

          • Christopher
          • MT YVR

I second the inevitable : Post Pics!

          • Cattleya1

He looks like he’s ‘been rode hard and put away wet’.

          • SilasMarner

Looks like he’s closer to 45-50 in that pic. That’s some hard livin’. He used to be cute. Not anymore.

          • Regan DuCasse

I’m glad someone else noticed. He looks seriously tore back for someone that young.
And for someone coming from such a good looking family to begin with.
Does anyone know why the brothers are estranged? That’s so sad.

          • Lantor

Weren’t there rumors of him being involved with meth? I doubt Nick is no angel, but it’s hard not to become estranged with someone addicted to meth.

          • another_steve

He does have a hairline to die for, though.

Not the best hand to have been dealt. Older brother Nick walked away from family at 18, said they were using him for his money, Aaron supported family from there on since about age 11. Hasn’t spoke to parents in ten years (Nick). Lost his sister a few years ago, not sure how long, then lost his Father in May of this year.
Hope he can work thing about and find some peace.

      • pj

      • Dunkerblinker

        he looks tore up here

      • GanymedeRenard

Wow! And he’s 29? Anyway, I congratulate him for coming out if that makes his soul any less dependent of whatever is making him have this not so youthful appearance – yes, I know youth is a mental state, but still.

  • Octavio

Put some muscle on him and 15 more years . . . then we’ll talk.

    • Aaron Carter has muscle. There are fan posts talking about how excessive it is. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/202840826ce93ac61555b3a20b85c58e8eb41293a58f6dd6ee45f66f34d600a8.jpg

      • Todd20036

This was taken some time ago. When I was in high school, I was that ripped too.

It’s cool. I just hope he gets past some of his more recent problems.

        Still hot though

        • says 2013. Yes, he says has an eating disorder now. Here is an article from June.

          • Todd20036

That bites. Anorexia is not gender specific, and it’s an aspect of vanity taken to an extreme

          • zhera

Not vanity. Eating disorders are about controlling your life, whether it’s that you need this one thing you can control, or you need to completely let go. It’s an illness, not a personality trait.

          • Ragnar Lothbrok

True. But do you think one can lead to the other ?

          • jsmukg

Partly. This ‘illness’ (I am rather allergic to the portmanteau abuse of that term) is inextricably linked to physical appearance and–in the case of anorexia/bulimia– vanity about said appearance and about what is supposed to be societally ‘pretty.’ (Therein lies the majority of the problem.) Many obese people also say (and, having known quite a few ‘overweight’ people, I’ve personally heard this said a lot) that they have accumulated the fat as protection against others, which is the converse of the idea that only anorexic/bulimic bodies are attractive.

          • Todd20036

Maybe. But I’ve also seen people exercise to an extreme because of vanity too.

I suspect there are multiple facets on the reasons behind anorexia.

  • JWC

Next it will be Bieber as he searches to find the meaning of life He has hit religion , next he will come out in some form

    • TampaDink

      Please, no!

      • JWC

never could stand that little Fuck

        • TampaDink

We are in the majority, here on J.M.G., at least when it comes to liking Bieber.

          • JWC

I think our love for him when he fitst appeared as a 16 y/o on Graham Norton

          • TampaDink

I don’t recall my first (unsolicited) exposure to him…but never thought he was very talented or even very attractive.

          • Todd20036

He doesn’t have the look to handle a sleeve tattoo. IMHO

          • TampaDink

Not everyone can pull that off. I’m sure that I couldn’t….and will never know since I can’t risk bleeding out during & after the process. Thanks to, mechanical valve that requires daily blood thinners.

          • Todd20036

I think I look too boyish for something that elaborate.

If I got a sleeve tattoo, it would look like I’m trying to butch myself up

          • TampaDink

If I could….and there was even a remote chance that the outcome would be as (what I think to be) very attractive, I’d want the sleeves to work as well as they do on one of my straight man crushes.
John Stanton of Buzzfeed’s D.C. bureau.

          • djcoastermark

Yeah, that’s the total package there. Amazing that on some people, everything just fits.

          • TampaDink

            Ain’t that the truth!

          • MT YVR

I’ve got two sleeves. lol Am I now double butch?

I took like… a year or so? To settle on design. There are a lot out here in Vancouver and most are ok but sometimes find myself just seeing a blur of colour and not really caring. Others… well.

            Others, indeed.

      • Christopher

Every time Dee Dee pushes this button, it’s another up vote for your comment!

        • Palmer

DeeDee, get out of my laboratory!

          • Christopher

You’ve really gotta get the inflection with Dexter.

“DeeDee! Get out of my LaBORatory!”

Sorry, I REALLY love that show more than I should.

      • vorpal 😼

He’ll be the first we vote off the island.
(Well, after we get rid of the Log Cabin Repubs and Caitlyn Jenner.)

        • TampaDink

I still want to know who invited him to the island to begin with.

    • Shawn Mendes the next teen Canadian megastar is handsome. Young but handsome. Let’s hope he does not ruin his looks with drugs, roids, and excessive tatts like Justin. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/4abec3da8b90792f92252e987e2f5555e1aff1e5bec984298b1c9900fd681ff8.jpg

      • JWC

        Is he not an OZZIE?

        • Canadian boy from Toronto. This youtube video has over 1 billion hits. That’s right, 1 billion 200 million hits. He is huge.

          • Oscarlating Wildely

            Love Toronto. Glorious city.

Totally OT but had to note. Truly, lovely place.

          • Todd20036

I’ve visited Montreal. That’s a beautiful city too

          • And Vancouver is really nice.

Happy Pride to our brothers, sisters & allies in Vancouver.

          • MT YVR

Danke! We’re a block off the route so we tend to stumble out, Statler and Waldorf our asses off then head home. I miss the days of heading to some one ELSE’s home.

            For cards. Obviously. lol

          • TampaDink

Bita! (Danka & bita are almost the entire list of German words that I know. I was born there (into a U.S. Army family) and was about 10 months old when we moved…you’d think that I could do more than thanks & you’re welcome….and cry in fluent German. Oh well.
As for heading to someone else’s home for “cards”, the only thing that I can say to that is….deal me in.

          • Priya Lynn

Vancouver is the best. The people in Toronto are fucking rude. Go into a convenience store and the clerk will get all huffy like they hate you for making them serve you.

          • Oscarlating Wildely

I never found that. My biggest thing is that they wanted to talk. Took me forever to get out of anywhere. Granted, I work in Philly and NYC where talking means two sentences or less but I found Toronto quite warm.

          • greenmanTN

My Canadian confession, or why I’m still afraid to go back to Canada, just in case they still remember.

We almost always traveled with my dads brother’s family, both pulling trailers. That’s just how it was

My aunt literally wore cat-eye glasses with rhinestones and had big hair.

She also carried a woven purse with a festive “Hawaiin” design, large enough to be a body bag.

My uncle often wore a powder blue leisure suit with dark blue contrast stitching.

Their nicknames for each other were Twee-pie (Tweety Pie) and Hound Dog.

On the way we stayed at a campground owned by a black family and I played with their two daughters, resulting in racist BS from my cousins. (My dad shut that down real quick.)

My cousin Phil killed a squirrel (with a pellet gun IIRC), cut off its tail and wore the tail on the back of his gimme-cap for the whole trip.

It’s really hard to maintain one’s pose as an urban sophisticate when surrounded by the cast of Hee-Haw.

I’m afraid to show my face there ever again.

          • Todd20036

Rings a vague bell, I may have heard a dance remix of it in one of my interval training classes.

      • Todd20036

He’s adorable. Hard to say what he will do with himself later.

No way to predict these things.

    • jerry

I imagine that he’ll look as bad as Aaron Carter by the time he hits 30.

      • JWC

with his drug use ya He is NOT a happy person with himself

  • WitlessProtection

    • Nick Carter’s blonde twink younger brother — from N’ Sync the 90’s uber USA boyband that starred Justin Timberlake.

      • Christopher

Nope. Nick Carter was a Backstreet Boy.

But let’s be honest, like there’s much of a difference.

        • Mikey

        • lol I am wrong. They all kinda blended together in my mind LOL.

        • Dagoril

Backstreet Boys, Spice Girls, whatever 😉

54 years ago today my mom squeezed me out. But August 6th hasn’t been all that great, historically speaking. Especially 72 yrs. ago today.

      • Todd20036

        Happy birthday.

        • TampaDink

It only happened because I had great health insurance.

          • Todd20036

Happy Birthday! Not your fault the atom bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, but I can see how you’d think of it today. I used to work with a woman whose birthday is 9/11, and after the attack I wondered if she’d be able to enjoy a birthday again without a shadow lurking in the background.

        • TampaDink

I can imagine that people who were born on 9/11, especially before 2001, would have no way to approach the anniversary of their birth with the horrors of that day.

I try to focus on some of the notable people that I also share a birthday with….people like Lucille Ball, Andy Warhol, Edith Roosevelt (Teddy’s wife), & JonBenet Ramsey. Who are all dead.

      • yes b’y
        • TampaDink

Thank you….and I must say, that this cake just looks SUPER!

      • Robincho

        Happy Birthday, TampaDink! You’re
In your prime! But we should stop to
        Remember the
        Others who didn’t make it
        So far along as you
        If we could get one
        More chance at 8/6/45, would
        Anything come out differently?…

        • TampaDink

Thank you, Robincho! I’m in my prime but never prim nor proper.
I cannot imagine what changes in the world we live in had the bombs not been used on Japan.

        • grada3784

After Saipan and Okinawa, no. Unless it was continued firebombing of Japan’s cities, which had taken more lives than the 2 bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Truman was not going to expend more American lives to invade Japan than he absolutely had to.

      • Ninja0980

        Happy birthday!

Thank you, Ninja, and remember, as per Tim Minchin’s song “Prejudice”…Only a ninja can call another ninja “ninja”.

Unfortunately, when it turned 50, it got reamed out by the Supreme Court like most people do for their colonoscopy.

    • Ninja0980

And Republicans have been devoted to destroying it ever since.

  • SoCalGal20

Good for him! Sounds like he’s been having a bit of a tough time. Hopefully coming out will help lead to better times.

  • Christopher

    You go, A a ron! 😉

Sorry, everytime I see that name it reminds me of this…

  • Sounds familiar. The evolution of self-realization, that is. Good for him though because it took me until my early 30s before coming to terms.

  • TJay229

Why. Should, Would I dare care?

  • vorpal 😼

    I am Schock-ed. (I kid.)
Good on Aaron for his bravery and I hope that he finds acceptance and that being able to share this news improves the outcome of his challenges.

  • FAEN

Good for you Aaron! I wish you all the best however that neck tattoo is unfortunate.

    • Natty Enquirer

It’s only the tip of the inkberg.

  • A Black

So is he dating Chris Crocker? That picture circled around earlier and that’s when the gay rumors started.

  • bkmn

Since Stephen Elliot Phillips used a version of it earlier I will now go with the original

    – Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t…

  • Sam_Handwich
  • ccc

Can someone please explain why perhaps we should collectively care?

    • DaddyRay

It shouldn’t matter but if it helps him work through it as it says it has been weighing him down then go for it

It can also be that someone he had been with was looking to blackmail him and by getting this out there it defuses the situation by getting in front of it

    • -M-

      Just to be supportive?

    • JT

      Sympathy and support.

    • OdieDenCO

the more people in the public eye expressing and accepting themselves the better for everybody. the exotic becomes the day to day with exposure and is excepted as routine.

    • Lazycrockett

Honestly it wasn’t that many years ago that the LGBTQ community would rush to support anyone who came out of the closet. Times are sure changing.

      • jsmukg

You got THAT right…..and it wasn’t that long ago that we saw marriage equality as settled law, was it? Ugh.

      • Ninja0980

Still a long way to go, especially if you’re bisexual IMO.
Being married to one, I’ve seen attacks on the bi community by all sides.

    • Barry William Teske

      Care enough to comment though?
      The use of privilege.
Last bastion of the lonely self.

      • ccc

        Asume a lot, heh?

        • Barry William Teske

It wasn’t a question I submitted in reply.
          Funny that.
          Your response that is.

    • another_steve

Yes. When a celebrity comes out, it’s a big deal.

Ellen DeGeneres’s coming out reached more straight people and changed more straight minds than all of our organizations and all of our political spokespeople combined.

    • CB

The fact that more and more people are admitting that they don’t fit the heteronormative mold is important because it underscore that human sexuality is on a spectrum as Masters & Johnson promoted.
You can argue that we give celebrities unnecessary attention or that who cares what this young man thinks, but I have to respect that when he’s been handed this microphone and chooses not to hide that he is doing a service to his fans.
Many of us may say “who?” But his fans know him. So I think it’s a good thing.

  • Adam King

Wow. Someone I’ve never heard of is bi.

    • Helen Damnation™

Well, don’t be so excited about anyone over the age of 21 who has a hideous neck tattoo. That plus he is a Trump supporter? Why are we even talking about him?

  • johnnybc

one more check in my “old guy” column…

    • BobSF_94117

I don’t know who he is exactly, but I have a sneaking suspicion I’ve seen him standing on my lawn.

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

I knew it & ha ha my then BF was upset with me obsessing over his stupid video 20 years ago.

  • Talisman

  • Duh-David

Saw him with Lou Perlman in Key West, years ago, before Aaron started looking like Mickey Rourke.

  • Slade7

Earlier this year he came out as a big Trump supporter and slammed people for criticizing him. No kidding.

    • Todd20036

      Stupid kid.

  • Ben in Oakland

  • boobert

That’s an awful old looking 29. He was a trump supporter, then he wasn’t. He was straight, then he wasn’t. Sounds like a nut to me.

    • Oscarlating Wildely

I hate, hate, hate assuming medical issues based on appearance but am sadly seeing Meth. And, if true, that really, really sucks.

      • SoCalGal20

He’s had an eating disorder which he apparently also came out about recent. So that could be some of it but who knows.

  • Michael

Yup, as usual. The old bitter queens in the JMG threads strike again.

You guys are pathetic little bitches. Hopefully other bisexual guys don’t have to encounter this massive slice of the bitter old gay male community. God knows most of you would drive any guy considering coming out to stay in the closet.

    • Priya Lynn

What the fuck are you talking about?

      • Johnny Wyeknot

        agreed! What the fuck!

    • Jon Doh

      You seem nice. /s

      • Todd20036

I blocked him long ago. I’ve no more patience for people like him

    • Oscarlating Wildely

I’m bi. Been on JMG for years. Never seemed to have an issue. Although I bet that my bubbie’s chicken noodle soup could kick Another Steve’s bubbie’s chicken noodle soup’s ass.

  • DonnaLee

Good for him, stand up and count yourself as one of us!

  • Dagoril
  • fuzzybits

    Good for Aaron.

  • Slade7

There’s a Reason Aaron Carter Is Backing Donald Trump for President: “I’m Too Intelligent for You Guys”

    • Johnny Wyeknot

    • Mike_in_the_Tundra

It was impossible for me to not want to punch him out when I watched that clip. If you have to tell everyone twice that you’re smart, you’re probably not. I certainly don’t want to fuck him now.

  • Johnny Wyeknot
  • Aaron who?

  • Bryan

He’s gotten a bit more rugged than I remember him but when I was 12 I bloody loved Aaron Carter….long before I realized I was gay.

Tee-hee, one more for the underground boy harem.

  • Ross

Aaron Carter Comes Out As Bisexual.

    What? Is this the 1970s?

    • Oscarlating Wildely

Are you saying that bisexual people only existed in the 1970s? We’re still here….

      • Ross

In the 1970s and 80s people were afraid to come out as gay.

So, people would come out as Bi.

Like Elton John, who even married a woman.

Maybe Carter is Bi. Or maybe he is gay and still struggling with this.

My comment was meant as a cultural timeline joke.

  • Hanwi

Well the HRC put out a tweet, job done for the week, brunch anyone?

  • Barry William Teske

    Oh look!
Some very un-Felicitous comment responses to another’s personal truth and courage.
    Nothing new there…

    • Dramphooey

If you’re referring to comments about his health I’m sorry but his picture is in front of us. If you’re referring to his support of Donald Trump in 2016 that draws a cold stare in these parts.

      • Barry William Teske

Thank you for not taking a deeper look.
Fear of self is part of the human condition.
Judgement of another by how they appear is pure deflection if the need to look within has been neglected.
Glad I could help point that out.

  • SDG

  • theonlyseven

The downside of celebrities coming out is many of them are not the best example of humanity. Some do it because they feel the need to be honest. Other’s do it because they want the press and attention. Not everyone who comes out is going to be Ellen DeGeneres or Tim Cook.

  • 3-Star

    Never heard of him.

  • Ginger Snap

Okay I’m officially old. I had no idea Arron was still making music.

  • Kevin Perez

It depresses me a little to admit that I’ve never heard of this person before.

  • EDinMCO

  • peterparker

I like tattoos. I even occasionally like a neck tattoo. But that neck tattoo is just *awful*. And it’s too bad because he has a beautiful face.
