REPORT: White House Counsel’s Office Delivers Their “Guidance” On Banning Transgender Troops To Pentagon

Karen Ocamb reports at the Washington Blade:

President Donald Trump may be on a 17-day vacation but his White House has been scrambling to hand him a “win” by the time he returns. Trump’s tweets last week announcing a ban on transgender individuals serving openly in the U.S. military was turned into a “guidance” policy for implementation that passed muster with the White House Counsel’s office Friday night.

Approved by Trump, the new policy is expected to be now delivered into the hands of Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, who has been quiet on the issue with approximately 15,000 trans service members under his command. After his review, Mattis is expected to order a deliberate implementation by the Pentagon, which could take a period of time.

Though the policy—called “A Guidance Policy for Open Transgender Service Phase Out”—has not yet been made public, sources familiar with the planning said it would encourage early retirement, usher out any enlisted personnel after their contract is up, and would fire trans officers up for promotion. Basically, said a source, “the administration wants to get rid of transgender service members as fast as they can.”

No one yet knows what will happen to the service members currently fighting in combat. The new policy does allow trans service members to continue serving but apparently does not offer any protection from harassment or other efforts to get them to quit.

Lambda Legal intends to sue. Hit the link for much more.

  • Joe in PA

How do you like me now Caitlyn?

  • bkmn

Firing someone who is up for promotion does not make the country safer, it does the opposite.

  • Joe in PA

    Is this Pence?

    • David Milley

      Likely.

    • Sam_Handwich
      • margaretpoa

        Ugh! So very creepy.

    • PeterC

Definitely fits Pence’s thinking. He is worse than Trump. Pence is also the person who selects all of Trump’s appointment to the cabinet.

      • clay

(that Trump doesn’t appoint be Tweet since he’s “tired of the process”)

    • Brody Levesque

      Yes,

    • BobSF_94117

It’s not Pence, at least not directly, though I’m sure he’s on board.

Some GOPers tried to pass an amendment to the military budget to block spending on trans people in the military. They couldn’t even get the GOP caucus on board, so they took it to Trump who was in one of his impulsive moods and threatened money for his fucking wall.

  • safari

    History repeats.

  • Sam_Handwich

the minute they try to enforce this bullshit lawsuits will be filed, and i can’t imagine it working out well for the white house

    • safari

      It’ll excite the base.

      • Dramphooey

Why bother? They apparently live full time in a fantasyland anyhow.

      • agcons

It’s the only way Pence can get stiff.

        • bzrd

“Mother, please, I’d rather do it myself.”

    • Ninja0980

Depends on where the suits are filed at.
The 5th, 6th or 8th Circuits will be losses.

    • margaretpoa

While there are still plenty of bigots around, we seem to have turned a corner on LGBT hate in the public sphere at least. NOT to say that that is likely to influence a Justice, Trump or especially Pence.

    • Joe in PA

From a posting on The New Civil Rights Movement:

LGBT civil rights organizations are expected to file lawsuits as soon as any guidance or policy is announced. Lambda Legal said, “we are ready.”

      Good.

      • CPT_Doom

Signed up as a monthly contributor the day this bullsh*t was announced. They’re going to need a lot of support.

        • jerry

They were out on the street during DC pride…so now they’re among the 10 or so organizations that hit my credit cards monthly. But they do have a very good track record.

          • Steve Teeter

I just went monthly too. Let’s get with it, people!

  • margaretpoa

This was made inevitable when the implementation and then the repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell failed to take trans service members into account. It was only a matter of time before the country elected a bigoted asshole who would formally undo what the gains we had informally made. The people who have suffered most from the Trump Presidency are obviously immigrants but running a close second is the transgender community.

    • Jamie Wilson

Thank God the 2 weren’t linked. Repeal barely passed in time. If it had been tied to any other issue, DADT repeal would have failed. You and your 24 upvoters would happily destroy the lives of hundreds of thousands of LGB servicemen without a second thought b/c LGB lives are nothing more than things to be used for trans activism. That’s homophobia on full display

      • margaretpoa

Bullshit. I was in the Navy between 1986 and 1991 and was discharged with bad paper specifically for being trans. Don’t you dare lecture me. You have no right and you have no justification. Rather than me displaying homophobia, your display of open transphobia couldn’t be more clear.

        • Jamie Wilson

If you thought it was such a bad policy, then get off your behind, open your damned mouth and make your case against it. LGB people are not your slave class, here to fight your battles and do your bidding and we are not going to sacrifice the well-being of hundreds of thousands of LGB service members in order to make you feel loved.

          • zhera

Jamie, you are a horrible person. Fuck off.

          • Jamie Wilson

Right back at ya, hetero girl.

          • margaretpoa

Thanks but I’m done wasting my time with you. It appears that you’re pretty fairly alone in your cause but maybe that’s because most people around here have so little use for a TERF like yourself.
Suggesting that I’ve been letting LGB people fight my battles for me is even more stupid than lecturing me about DADT. You have no idea what you’re talking about but by all means, continue. With every sentence you type, you only further discredit yourself. I don’t even have to respond to ensure that you’re made a laughingstock.

          • Jamie Wilson

            1) My views represent those of a large % of LGB people.
            2) I am not a TERF or even an RF.
            3) LGBs are fighting your battles right now. HRC and Lambda are wasting gay money on this issue, which has nothing to do with gay people. You are parasites. Fight your own wars. We won’t be your willing cannon fodder any longer.
            4) You say absolutely nothing – not one word – about why you didn’t fight your supposedly unjust discharge. You are either lazy or cowardly or both.

          • margaretpoa

I didn’t say I didn’t fight it. I did fight it and still am, or would be if my documentation hadn’t “disappeared” in the Pentagon somewhere. You sure make a lot of assumptions about me but since you won’t carry on an honest conversation without insulting me, I think we’re done here.

And your views don’t seem to be shared by a “large %” of people, (or anybody really) on this website. Please feel free to continue discrediting yourself though but I am going to exercise the option to not look at it anymore.

          • Jamie Wilson

Yes, yes, you are still fighting against a discharge from 1991. And there was only 1 copy of your papers anywhere in the world, just like in a movie. You never got a copy and there were no computers in 1991. Sure, Jan. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UD1-oVJlU4M

  • Boreal

Lambda again does the heavy lifting while we hear crickets from HRC.

    • margaretpoa

People keep telling me how inclusive the “new” HRC is about trans Americans but other than a few words, I have not seen one shred of evidence to that effect. They’re still embarrassed by us, they just aren’t as open about it as when Solmonese ran the outfit.

      • Gerry Fisher

I thought it was interesting that the parents behind a high-profile trans case involving their child–I think it was in California–sang the HRC’s praises. I guess that, when things went sour locally, they called the HRC, and the organization gave them a lot of support. On the one hand, yay! On the other hand, if you’re not a high profile case that calls in directly to the HRC for personal assistance, does the organization do anything for you? Does the organization do any effective macro work, systems work, political work, or are they a super-duper expensive crisis line with a fancy website and lots of products to sell?

        • margaretpoa

Sure. They’ll certainly help out when it’s a giant fund raising opportunity for them. Everything else is just platitudes and “Can you please not stand right here in front of the cameras and make people think you’re associated with us? Thank you”.

        • fuow

The answer to that would be a resounding: No.

      • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

HRC plays well with the DC elite crowd, and in rural environments where people what to FEEL like they contribute, but really don’t want to bother making an effort to think. Same areas that Trump plays to.

        • Tom

Umbrage taken: in rural environments where people want to FEEL like they contribute, it not making an EFFORT TO THINK?
          Gadfly INDEED.

      • Tom

Yet all you would have to do is look at their website.
This post dated August 4-just yesterday.

HRC announced the Public Policy Committee of HRC’s Board of Directors has voted to endorse Danica Roem in her bid to represent Virginia’s District 13… if elected, Roem would make history as the first out transgender person seated in a state legislature..

“I’m honored to earn the support of an organization dedicated to building people up instead of tearing each other down,” said Danica Roem.
“BUILDING PEOPLE UP INSTEAD OF TEARING EACH OTHER DOWN”

Sad that the comment that garnered the most up votes and acidic repartee from the “community” engages in tearing our own down instead of focusing our energy on addressing our real enemy.

        http://www.hrc.org/blog/hrc-endorses-danica-roem-transgender-nominee-for-public-office-in-Virginia

        • fuow

Some of us who have long memories see past the empty rhetoric and know what the HRC is really all about. Nice try, though – hope you didn’t miss out on any of the super cocktails and Beluga caviar while typing this agitprop.

          • Todd20036

I remember HRC endorsing an anti gay quisling fag over a straight ally. Don’t remember the race.

            Because butt sex

          • Tom

            LOVING vs VIRGINIA?
            😂😂😂
Lambda Legal wasn’t even incorporated at the time.
            Geez.
But hey don’t let it get in the way of you climbing on board the troll bus

          • fuow

You’re really not making the case for HRC here….

          • Tom

            Oh wait….
forgot…the question was do I-or anyone- remember “when the HRC supported Ogenfell”?

I don’t watch Game of Thrones.

          • fuow

Of course they did – after Lambda Legal and everyone else did the heavy lifting. A lot like the CCCP declaring war on Japan at the last moment during WWII so they could share in the spoils.

          • Tom

Then perhaps you can tell me where “Ogenfell” is ?

          • lizdhm

“Then perhaps you can tell me where “Ogenfell” is ?”

“I have no response on the substance- better nitpick spelling! DISTRACT! DISTRACT!”

          • Tom

Here’s the thing, my engagement in this entire thread was to point out that in THIS POST HRC bashing has no real purpose except as you so eloquently put it:
            DISTRACT! DISTRACT!

          • lizdhm

Not really. It’s also to point out that they suck up money and don;t do much good.

      • fuow

The simple truth is, a lot of selfish gay men and ultra-mean ‘feminist’ lesbians hate you.
You’re in good company, though – they hate, me, too for refusing to toe the party line and pretend everything’s just fine and dandy and we’ll (somehow, magic, magic) fix things up in 2018.
What these bleeding asswipes don’t realize is that the mother-fucking christers are attacking you, first – we’ll be next. They foolishly believe that if we throw you to them, like red meat to the wolves, then they’ll leave us alone.
During the Aids holocaust, the three groups who helped us gay men the most were, in this order:
        Our mothers.
        Our transgender friends.
        Lesbians.
Gay men who had no personal stake in the individual’s fight to live were the last to help.

      • Jamie Wilson

        I wish that were true!

    • Sam_Handwich

      here, have a bumper sticker

      • margaretpoa

Yep. Except it should read = (except T) if they want to be honest about it.

        • Adam King

Didn’t they come out with a very special pastel-colored = for the Ts?

          Mission accomplished! Pass the martinis.

          • margaretpoa

Oh, I’d forgotten about that special favor insult to trans people. gag!

      • Joe in PA

        And a cocktail.

        • Gerry Fisher

I so *totally* saw what you did there.

          • jixter

‘Joe in PA’ is a smartass.

      • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

Pass me another Cape Codder, won’t you?

      • Gustav2

And junk mail solicitations and applications for the HRC credit card until you die.

      • Gerry Fisher

Their store in Provincetown had pretty chatchka.

    • bdsmjack

Silly, HRC has a major cocktail party to plan for wealthy, A-list, gay men.

      • margaretpoa

STRAIGHT LOOKING gay men, If you can’t pass as hetero, you won’t be invited

        • clay

I thought that was included in “A-list”.

      • j.martindale

To be fair, my experience is there are lots and lots of professional lesbians in it–more than men in our neck of the woods.

        • Reality.Bites

Sadly all the lesbians I know are holding on to their amateur status in hopes of joining the Olympic scissoring team.

      • Tom

Women and our straight allies seem to enjoy the evenings as well.
But please continue with your tired tropes

        • bdsmjack

Enjoy your lovely evening. Just don’t expect me to donate any more money to finance your ‘inclusive’ soireé.

          • Tom

Thanks. The hubby and I finished our yard work and are looking forward to putting some ribs on the grill.
Hope your evening is just as lovely.
And I don’t ever remember meeting you so keep your pocket change and your tired comments.

          • bdsmjack

Thank you. All of my “pocket change” will be going to worthy organizations other than your sham charity.

          • Tom

Because I don’t share your fetish.

        • fuow

Tom, given the extraordinarily bad reputation your organization currently enjoys with a large number of the gay community because of the way you treat intersex and transgender people, maybe you should pay attention to reality instead of lecturing us for pointing out your bad policies.
          Just a thought.

          • Tom

            Try another Thought fuow.
MY organization? and the way I treat intersex and trans people?
            My policies? Troll much?
You have no idea what my relationship is with ANYONE.
            But do go on.
And on…and on …your reputation precedes you and it ain’t an informed one.

          • fuow

Well, dear – don’t lie down with dogs then complain that you’ve awakened with fleas.
You’re the one defending the HRC, so don’t complain when I label you as one of them.
And, yes – my ‘reputation’ does proceed me. As does yours. The day you dear A-List Fags threw transgender people under the bus in 2005 was the end of any possible sympathy I once had for you.
            Going to pretend you didn’t?

          • Tom

And Obama did not include transgendered people in the repeal of DADT.
Only issuing that policy until his final year.
Did he throw them under as well?

    • Ninja0980

Don’t worry, they’ll issue a strongly worded statement soon enough.

      • Adam King

        They’ll have a black-tie get-together to discuss it.

    • bambinoitaliano

Lifting champagne glasses is just as much heavy work!

    • teedofftaxpayer

I stop donating to HRC years ago. I rather support the locals LGBT organizations to help the local LGBT needing help.

    • Dagoril

HRC is still “working their way through the T’s”.

    • BobSF_94117

Those “crickets” appear to have taken over the HRC website. It’s all about the transgender Pentagon policy….

      http://www.hrc.org/

    • fuow

That’s because HRC has historically been anti-Transgender and Intersex and still, in their greedy little hearts, are.

  • Ninja0980

Those who stayed home or voted third party, don’t even bother to protest this or other issues.
You made it clear with your actions you were willing to let the trans community and so many others suffer for the sake of your purity.

    • lymis

I share the frustration, but I think it would be better to say that anyone who stayed home or voted third party and doesn’t like this needs to be on the phone – now – to their congresscritters to protest this.

Past mistakes are a reason to be motivated to get it right in the future – and the present – not to give up and sit quietly.

I’ll agree that people who didn’t participate in the election and are doing nothing but bitch about it now should be told to put up or shut up.

      • David L. Caster
      • Todd20036

Those are the ones we complain about.

The people who voted for Bernie, then admit they fucked up and are atoning, I’m ok with.

It’s the ones who are unapologetic, the ones who will do the same damned thing again, are the ones I have a problem with

  • Dramphooey

So who is going to replace these people? Why don’t you draft some Proud Boys and send them to Syria with minimum training?

  • thom

    Fuck off!!!!
And fuck off if you’re queer and voted for this egomaniacal bigot

    • margaretpoa

Hear! Hear! All you fucking jackasses for whom profits are more important than civil rights are who Star Trek writers modeled the Ferengi after.

      • Todd20036

Dont dis the Ferengi. They actually are honest about their values and mores.

    • Todd20036

Or thought the parties were the same and stayed home, or voted for someone who had no chance at winning because Clinton wasn’t pure enough

    • torrentprime

Or spent the entire election season attacking Hillary, thereby encouraging *just enough* (mostly white) men to vote Trump or progressives of all kinda to go third-party. Hey – it’s not like we really cared about Obama’s presidency, right? We can always lose EVERYTHING he enabled and no big, right?

      *spit*

  • OdieDenCO

the only criteria that should be used in determining if one is fit for service is loyalty and willingness to serve. the military utilizes many different skill sets to get the job done. if you can do the job and you are willing to do the job, you can serve. exclusion only weakens us.

  • olandp

    Fucking low life scum.

  • Ish

The Pentagon is not something that should be dressed in a rainbow flag. It’s the headquarters of murder and genocide.

    • Dreaming Vertebrate

Funny how you only criticize American military, but the Russians are committing atrocities in Syria everyday.

      • Ish

That’s because I live in the United States. The main enemy is at home. Also, the US committing atrocities in many many more countries everyday than just Syria. Own it. Resist it.

        • Dramphooey

The main enemy is at home. You butt-voted for him last November when you didn’t vote and challenged others not to do so.

          • Ish

Hillary Clinton, just a different kind of monster. Not actually an alternative to Trump.

          • zhera

You say that now, but will you keep saying it when the Pence administration is taking away ALL your rights as an LGBT citizen? Will you say it when Pence’s wet dream of Gilead takes form, and women everywhere are made into incubators? Will you say it when the Constitution is either changed or nullified and all non-white people are turned into slaves?

Hyperbole, some will probably say. Look to history, I say.

          • Ish

Pence is pretty awful, undeniable. But yes, what you’re saying is hyperbole. If the American political system is indeed so fragile that one man can make a scifi novel come true, well, it wasn’t worth very much to begin with. In the real world, the fascist movement out there doesn’t get stopped at the ballot box. That’s not how it works. If they are that strong that mass slavery is imminent, an electoral win for HRC wouldn’t have done squat to stop it. But frankly, you’re living in a fairy tale, the flipside of the fairytale the wingnuts built for themselves under Obama.

The threat from fascism is real enough, though not in the way you describe it. Relying on Democrats to stop it is tying a cinder block around your ankle while you go for a swim. If you really wanna look to history, you better go a little deeper. People like Hillary are who made Hitler possible. And believe it or not, Trump isn’t Hitler.

          • zhera

Putting words in my mouth isn’t going to work, Ish. And speaking of hyperbole: “People like Hillary are who made Hitler possible.”

No. People like YOU made Hitler, AND TRUMP, possible. People who refuse to see that there are more shades than black and white, people who believe the crazies and talk of revolution because hard work and slow progress is, well, hard and slow.

During Obama’s years the USA had a lot of social progress. Was Obama perfect? Hell no. No politican will ever be perfect. Was he as left-leaning as I personally would’ve liked? No. Did he make a change in the US society? Yes! Look at the polls, Ish. The ones about support for marriage equality, for instance. Compare 2006 to 2016.

There’s been a HUGE progressive shift on social issues during Obama’s years. That shift can turn the other way during Trump’s years, or Pence’s years.
To say that Hillary Rodham Clinton would’ve been just as bad as Trump or Pence is a lie and you know it. (And I know you’ll never admit it.)

But enough. We both know that we’re just gonna throw our talking points to each other without convincing the other, so there’s no point in this. I’m tired and going to bed.

          • Dramphooey

You are not going to be able to reason with somebody whose actual concern is about a picture and how it offended him. 15,000 trans brothers and sisters can pound salt in his world view.

          • Ish

My actual concern is US imperialism and how bootlickers in our community betray the cause of liberation.

          • Dramphooey

We are talking about a minority group that is being attacked and you try to change the subject. That is vile. Back to my original response to you: your use of that picture is a condescending joke.

          • Ish

The pentagon is responsible for the murder of millions of people in dozens of countries in the last few decades so pardon me if I’m not too worried about what you think about my discus avatar. Power to the people! Bootlickers out of the community!

          • Ish

Actually it is because the misleaders in the LGBT “community” insisted on a lashup with the Democratic Party and, not uncoincidentally, the Democrats then running the State Department, that gains achieved through that terrible strategy are now threatened with undoing. The Dems wanted the path of marriage equality rather than formal civil rights and disgusting organizations like the HRC tagged along. Now the LGBT community is tied to a moribund, dead-end, tone-deaf losing party with no politics and disgusting, corrupt leaders, and internationally to the warmongering, bullying foreign policy of Hillary Clinton. Both these things are now coming round to bite our community in the ass. It’s what happens when you sell out. A higher bidder comes along. The LGBT community has largely turned its back on potential allies out of racism and the elitism and classism of its misleaders. We’re all paying that price. And yeah, I blame Hillary, the Democrats, and the sycophantic bootlickers on display here everyday.

          • torrentprime

I like how the main thrust of his argument boils down to: Democrats are a problem. Funny, how that seems to be so many internet accounts’ feelings.

            🙄

          • Ish

I guess it’s easier to just make ridiculous allegations than challenge facts that don’t fit your worldview.

          • torrentprime

            🤣🤣🤣
Yes, simple, black-and-white facts like “trusting Democrats is pretending hoping cinder blocks float in water”; I can’t imagine how anyone could view that as anything other than a calm, rational, verifiable statement.
“Also, your worst-case scenarios are unrealistic.”
            😂😂😂

          • torrentprime

Lol. That’s what many sock puppets/Russian troll accounts like to pretend.

          • Ish

good lord I’ve been reading and commenting on this blog for over a decade. when did commenters here get so fucking stupid?

          • torrentprime

Alas. Once we stopped responding to howlers like “it was people like HRC who made Nazi Germany n the Holocaust happen” with the open derision such inanity deserves, it was simply a matter of time. 😞

          • Ish

I know you’re congratulating yourself with the same repulsive smugness that has marked Democrats for the past year, but yes, Hitler came to power through the election of weak liberals who went belly up at the first opportunity. Hillary and Hindenburg even shared the same campaign slogan. Moronic conspiracy theories and sheer assholism aren’t exactly an effective form of resistance. Idiot.

          • torrentprime

I know you’re imagining feverishly that all your enemies actually match the backstory that you wrote in your head, but the only people congratulating themselves these days are Republicans. Liberal Democrats like me, not so much.
Well, yes – and of course the BernieBros do seem to find the time for some “at least we kept Hillary out of the WH” self-congratulation. Gosh – it’s almost like they themselves won’t be threatened by the coming loss of life from abortion restrictions, etc. Sheer assholism, tho – that his people are down with. No wonder they helped elect Trump!
Note: you may never have thought about this before – most Bernie fans care as little about abortion rights as Bernie himself; are you one? – but I’m sure there are tons of reasons why protecting reproductive freedom is entirely unimportant to being a “strong liberal”.
I do have to say – kudos on having part of your moronic conspiracy theory be “you probably believe in a moronic conspiracy theory”. If nothing else, at least you’re tidy and help conserve space.

          • Boreal

I see BP’s prolapsed anus remora, squish, is here to comment.

          • Adam King

I’m not even curious enough to unblock it.

          • Boreal

I have it blocked too. I can tell because it shows who it is in Dramphooey’s response.

          • Ish

Take note of how JMG’s ever so enlightened commentariat talk about people who disagree with their DNC-borg point of view. You too can be an “it”. You people are sickening.

          • agcons

You could if you were really stuck for something to do, but I say even then it wouldn’t be worth it. Boreal’s “prolapsed anus” description is kind and charitable.

          • Ish

In your world people who suggest the Pentagon is an icon of murder and genocide are the equivalent of a “prolapsed anus”? Great moral standards you got there, bootlicker.

          • Treant

Nor I. I’d go read Sonic the Hedgehog slash fic before I’d unblock it.

          • Lumpy Gaga

            [Sigh]

Just reminds me that @Midnight is officially off the air now.

          • Stogiebear

            Poetry. Sheer poetry.

    • Dramphooey

And you should not be dressed with an avatar that depicts a female person of color because you are neither.

      • Ish

I will be waiting for your comments on every other person’s avatar that isn’t a picture of themselves That job must keep you busy.

        • Dramphooey

Someone using a cartoon dinosaur as an avatar is obviously not a cartoon dinosaur. Likewise, we can surmise Moses holding Twinkies rather than the commandments isn’t actually some guy that drowns Egyptians and that an avatar sandwich is not an actual, sentient piece of meat flanked by two slices of bread. But when someone claims to support minority rights and uses an avatar of a black woman I think that is intentionally deceptive.

          • Ish

Dude, this is a well known 1960s illustration from Emory Douglas of the Black Panther Party. I endorse its message 100%. PS, clue me in. Are you an asshole or just an idiot?

    • lymis

Yeah, and it’s also so suspicious that all those firefighters seem to hang around burning buildings, too.

By all means, complain – loudly – when the military is used for illegitimate purposes. Question – loudly – the motivations for military action.

That doesn’t mean the military itself, or the people serving honorably are wrong. We would not be more free if the military was disbanded. Pretty shortly, we’d be Russian.

      • Ish

Why yes, yes it does mean that the US military is inherently wrong. The pentagon=death.

    • Hanwi

I personally feel that the military is an extension of the elite in this country, sending soldiers to commit atrocities in US citizens’ name to profit a very few very rich individuals. The US military has not carried out a justifiable “war” since WW2.

That being said I do support my trans brothers and sisters in the military. For many of them the benefits, GI Bill, etc, may be their only hope at a fruitful life. It can be really hard for trans people to obtain the basics, like a job or higher education, that everyone else takes for granted.

      • Ish

Well, I don’t really disagree with you but it seems like an awful lot of people have made the jump to celebrating the Pentagon as some kind of potential institution of social justice, which is why my complaint is against the art Joe keeps using. People make shitty career choices all the time, sometimes they’re the only ones possible. The Pentagon is still a murder factory no matter how many LGBT people work there.

  • TexasBoy

Wishing the Pentagon leader would stage a coup and take out this joke of a President.

    • Ross

      I second your wish.

    • margaretpoa

I’m not going to wish for a military coup but I sure hope they’ll grow a spine and defy him on a few things.

    • Dramphooey

No. I want this fascist pestilence taken out by the republican means. If there is any coup our republic is dead. However, I do understand so many of us would like some easy get-out-of-Trump-free card.

      • Adam King

        Our republic is dead.

        • Reality.Bites

Maybe they can get it right next time. I don’t mean rebuilding a utopia. Just a functioning western democracy – something Americans think they invented and perfected, when they’re pretty much the worst at it out of everyone who’s tried it.

    • Galvestonian

I’m hoping that General Kelly realizes just how much damage that Orangina Fuckstick смешивать (incorporated) is doing to America and takes out Trump/Pence in one go.

      • Adam King

But you can see straight off that she’s a Toilet Lady.

      • Xiao Ai: The Social Gadfly

        “lying to say”.

      • Acronym Jim

Tell me about it. I initially thought she was a trans woman who was protesting the taking away of rights by bunch of bigoted old men.

      • Lumpy Gaga

I honestly thought she was a transgendered veteran protesting the new policies.

Then I noticed the fact that it was a toilet cover. Penny didn’t really drop until I saw all the astroturf signage for Trumpcare.

    • Sam_Handwich
    • Ninja0980

I don’t want to think about her on the toilet or anywhere else.

      • popebuck1

I suspect the whole trans community feels the same way. “That’s okay, lady, we’re good.”

and yet, she favors laws that are based on the premise that those are NOT her seats, but the state’s.

With each passing day he becomes more ineffective and gets more desperate. This trans banning and his DoJ issuing an opinion that LGBT people aren’t protected from discrimination is just an effort to shore up the only real base he has left: bigoted Christian assholes. But make no mistake, that’s what makes up the vast majority of Republican lawmakers.

    • Tomcat

When is a win not a win? When Trump created it.

    • Buford

Agree. Trump’s sociopathy requires that he keep 5-7K adoring fans in rallies screaming support for him, even if he has to disenfranchise tens of thousands to make that happen.

He’s literally insane and dangerously incompetent.

  • j.martindale

Bigots in control. That doesn’t play well with a lot of American voters. The unfairness and callousness of tRump’s repulsive maneuver is going to really bother a lot of younger voters, and even a lot of fair minded older voters. When you have career military pointing out the lack of necessity for his stupidity, he may even lose some conservatives.

    • SoCalGal20

The response by Republican members of Congress should be a wakeup call, but no.

      • John30013

The Congress could put a stop to this in their next budget bill funding the military by explicitly not allowing any funds to be used to implement this “policy”. Will they do it?

  • David Gervais

It’s a small comfort to know that tRump will be a “Service Phase Out” before anyone else on his ‘list’.

  • IAMBOWLINGGREEN

Australia, New Zealand, U.K., Canada, Thailand, Spain, France, Austria, Germany, Denmark, Norway, Netherlands, Sweden, Bolivia, Belgium, Estonia, Finland… all allow trans men and women to serve. Working with trans men and women is unavoidable for American troops, even if Trump’s desperate Tweet was implemented.

  • Daveed_WOW

Trump is Hitler. There has never EVER been a President who implemented an aggressive plan of active discrimination. This is an atrocity. Sue that motherfucker.

    • Karl Dubhe

Woodrow Wilson purged the civil service of black employees.

      • Daveed_WOW

        Proto-Hitler

        • Karl Dubhe

If he was, he’d have tried to expel the blacks from the USA. There used to be people who advocated for that, that started back in the 1830s.

He was a white supremacist. I think he had some notion of nobless oblige. (sp from hell)

I still think Hitler was a special case, in spite of all the other shits who’ve acted in similar ways to him.

  • Gerry Fisher

Damn, what a mess. I can’t speak from experience, but I’ll bet the military brass *hate* this commander in chief (and can’t do anything directly in open retaliation).

    • Gerry Fisher

I know that military folks can’t take action to affect current politics. However, after we “get to the other side” of this debacle, I wonder if they can say to the American people, “Please don’t saddle us with another incompetent like this again. If you love your country, you must do a better job of vetting your Commander in Chief.”

      • bambinoitaliano

That’s the hypocrisy of many voters. Their show of patriotism by supporting the US troops is equivalent to uttering thoughts and prayers to people who lost their love ones. They did nothing to actually supporting the troops once they are back home. Worst, they vote for those who consistently denied the veterans benefits.

        • paganguy

This. Most of them support their troops the way they support their power tools. They want the biggest and the shiniest so they can brag about them and show them off. But otherwise, they don’t think about them until they want to use them. Then, if they wear them out or break them, just toss them out and grab a new one.

      • Galvestonian

Don’t say it to the Americans – say it to the Republicans ’cause by voting in this sad excuse for anything alive they became non-Americans. Real Americans didn’t vote for this piece of shit.

  • bambinoitaliano

So the idiot created animosity among the US troops engaging with the enemy on the front line. What fuckery of a commander in chief that sabotage his own troops like that?!!! What Generals and Colonels allow this kind of bullshit to be implemented? Have the US military discipline fallen to the level of those Talibans and ISIL becoming the sitting duck to be pick off by the enemies? Putin is certainly getting more than the pee tape’s worth in this. Selling out of government and weakening of the military. Who needs nuclear war heads and trillion dollars of defense budget with a lame duck of a puppet eroding the foundation of this country?

  • Bluto

This is fucking cruel, inhumane & shameful. Sue the FUCK out of them!

    They are called Christians.

  • CB

In addition to the other comments, what’s so appalling about this is that drumpf makes these unreasoned, knee jerk tweets and then forces his administration to come up with a justification for them. It’s not supported by research, just his raging ego and desire for attention…or some such.

    • During his campaign, “I am a friend of the LGBTI community. They love me!”

      • thatotherjean

Yeah, well. . .he lied about other stuff, too.

      • Homo Erectus

” you’re gonna get tired of winning”

    • zhera

Not sure this was a knee jerk. Donnie needed a diversion, Bannon and Pence have an agenda. I’m guessing they had this planned but waited until the right moment.

  • Tomcat

Then ten to 20 years down the road these same people that are getting the boot will be paid reparation.

    • Todd20036

      Assuming the lawsuits fail.

      Otherwise, they’ll continue working.

    • Galvestonian

How about me ? I was thrown out of the service for being gay 50 years ago and this was after I had re-enlisted for another 4 years and I was in Vietnam at the time. No reparation … just trauma and PTSD ( my stepfather finally had to talk me out of a darkened basement after 6 months playing Japanese Kyto music and burning pounds of inscense )

      • John30013

Firstly, thank you for your service. I’m so sorry you had to endure that, but I’m glad your father was able to help you stay around.

LGB service members who received dishonorable discharges prior to the DADT repeal can apply for an upgrade of their discharge status. (I don’t know if this fits your situation.) But I doubt those drummed out for being LGB will ever receive any monetary compensation.

        • Galvestonian

I applied for and received an ‘honorable’ upgrade back in ’83 and I applied for and after a lengthy battle with the VA and the help of the ACLU and my local congressman I got back my ‘educatiion benefits’ and received a Bachelors degree (Penn State ’88) and a Masters degree (Duquesne University ’90). I used every damn nickle that I was entitled to.

          • John30013

Good for you! I went thru ROTC (full scholarship), so I don’t get any more education benefits, but I did use a VA loan to buy my first house. I served during DADT, and I met my future husband (non military) while I was on active duty. I left after a few years rather than continue to hide my relationship.

  • Tomcat

It is all just a great big squirrel.

A squirrel that effects real people. That’s the problem, we know things like this are specifically intended to distract from the Orange Shitgibbon’s failures and scandals. But real, vulnerable people’s lives are at stake and so we have to treat it with the utmost strength and support.

  • Henry Auvil

The contempt, heartlessness and disrespect of this is nauseating. I hope it blows up in trump’s bloated, smirking face.

    • Even if there was a list of dead and injured transgendered soldiers, Trump would callously say, “I only support non-injured and alive soldiers; the others are losers.” This would be in line with his insult to McCain who was captured during the Nam war.

  • worstcultever

    1) Dumpy himself could give a fuck, it’s not about $$ or underage titties 2) this is Pence and Bannon (and sexually constipated Miller, who obviously wrote the initial tweets, given his signature stilted, clumsy, nazi-esque prose 3) we’ve already seen extremely heartening public pushback from military brass 4) the Pence/Bannon/Miller crew obviously thought this was a slam-dunk (just as Miller thought the Muslim ban was) 5) these shitstains trying to use the military for further social division is not sitting well with the military itself, which has actual jobs to do and has moved decades ahead of their Fox noise/Brietbart masturbatory childishness 6) so, more pointless chaos, but 7) I think ultimately will be a win for the side of the angels 8) the assholes saw easy pickings b/c of their bathroom bill nonsense in the slave states, but the military – which has a LOT of investment in these many perfectly good soldiers – is a whole different ground (i.e., real life) which of course these nazi jesus chickenhawks have zero knowledge of 9) this could be their biggest foot-bullet ever, let’s all make it so

  • Halou

Can we force Trump’s kids to replace the transgender soldiers? I want to see those spoiled rich kids cut mustard in Afghanistan, and I’m sure they’ll be safe out there since they have daddy’s unparalleled military genius backing them up.

  • Buford

Funny how the repeal of the ACA, the border wall, and tax reform/cuts are all campaign promises that represent an iron-clad contract with voters that MUST be honored at all costs… yet promises like the one to fight for LGBT Americans’ rights are so casually ignored.

So, the Republicans are so desperate to call something a ‘win’ for their golfing Gropenfuhrer that they’re going to waste taxpayer money on all the training, purging, and retraining, just for targeting a vulnerable minority of loyally-serving American troops while limiting opportunities and endorsing discrimination against that minority, …while of course once again proving Trump lies through his teeth all the time, in this case about his claims he’d protect LGBT rights rather than constantly assault them.

    • Homo Erectus

  • Caitlyn Jenner has decided to protest Trump’s horrible anti-trans policy by no longer wearing her MAGA hat. She is now holding a contest for best saying for her new baseball cap — which she will personally produce and sell for $49.99 through the HRC and on the Home Shopping Network. She is modeling the cap here — showing it in basic black without the logo. The winner will get a personally signed copy of the DVD “You Can’t Stop The Music!” and a free cap. Any suggestions on what she can put on the cap? Entrants for her contest can be made here.

While Drumpf spends taxpayer money golfing days at a time, he has his basement Xtian Klansmen drafting policies to waste money ferreting out and getting rid of valuable transgender soldiers. While the dolt in the White House who does nothing for the good of the country plays and lazes about, he deploys his minions to get rid of transgender soldiers who are actually making the country safer. All to please his theocratic supporters, who are itching for the day they can take over the country and turn it into a Taliban type state.

Boy, it sure is a good thing that all those millennials stayed home and didn’t vote in November.
Otherwise we’d have had a president who leaves us alone for strategic reasons instead of one who actively attacks us.
Yup, good thing the BernieBros and ‘green’ voters taught us Democrats a lesson. I’m so very, very glad that current surveys show they still have no interest in voting, while the Trumpanzies are still nearly 100% committed and still 100% commitable.

Because she voted with Bernie only 93% of the time?

            Emails?

            Benghazi?

SO you listen to the Nazis with their phony scandals?

            Not too bright are you.

          • Adonisus

Benghazi was bullshit, and her e-mails were a non-issue. I hated her because she was swimming in Banking and Corporate influence. AND I hated the DNC for actively trying to fudge the numbers and break the rules (openly, on camera) in order to give Hillary the nomination. Granted, even if everything was done right Bernie would still have been a longshot, but the idea that the DNC was so nakedly corrupt pissed me off. Also? Taco Tuesday was fucking obnoxious.

          • Jean-Marc in Canada

Translation: It was more important for people to indulge their dubious feelings and throw a tantrum rather than recognize reality and act like adults.

            There, I fixed it.

          • Adonisus

And guess what? Hillary STILL LOST. Even by the popular vote, which she definitely won, she only won by a slim majority. She was THAT HATED by the populace. And she was running against Donald Fucking TRUMP. People HATE her and HATE her Machiavellian politics and dirty money, and the bankers and wingnut neocon financiers she tried to shill for to get that dirty money. Our democracy is fucked, and Hillary was a symptom of it.

          • Homo Erectus

            They mostly hated her vagina.

          • Jean-Marc in Canada

And there it is, the regressive left’s cocksucking of the alt-right and Fox lies. Hillary won the popular vote by 3 million people sweets, hardly a slim majority.

And you’re right, they did hate her, but not because of the easily debunked BS your proffering…no, no…she was hated precisely because she was a SHE. Not only that, the fact that she was a strong SHE made it all the more prescient for Bernie, Trump and the GOP to lie, obfuscate and sabotage her every move.

You call her Machiavellian while clearly not knowing who he was or what he wrote regarding his philosophy. If you did, you would know she was the antithesis of Nicolo Machiavelli.

As for her dirty money, what dirty money? Oh, you mean her speaking fees from Goldman when she was a private citizen. The same speaking fees Bernie got for his Chase Bank speeches or the Dupont talk…let me guess, you didn’t know about those. Well, they happened honey, yet not a word of indignation or “how dare yous”…wonder why? Yes, very suspicious that. Tell me, how dirty is your money? After all, you’re a civilian I presume, you are paid for work/services rendered. Funny how a celebrity or other politician can, while a private citizen, make money on speaking tours and the like, but not Hillary…hmmm, I wonder what it is about her…oh right, she had a vagina and everybody knows a strong woman is never supposed to exceed her place.

Bankers and neocon financiers, you mean the same bankers and financiers who helped Bernie and his wife out? I do believe that’s still being litigated, isn’t it? Again, my apologies for bringing up the glaring hypocrisy of your argument.

Bottom line: she actually did nothing wrong. She didn’t shill, she didn’t kill and she certainly didn’t break any laws or rules. Well, that’s not true, I admit, she did break one cardinal law, the highest of all unwritten laws: never, EVER, be a strong woman with ambition, because that’s one thing Republicans, Conservatives, the regressive left, Bernie Bros, Stein Bots, misguided entitled Millennials and faux liberal/left misogynists cannot abide.

One final point, consider this singular salient fact: in the decades Hillary has served the nation, having endured slanders and libels, manufactured offences and accusations of graft and murder, having her name and her accomplishments dragged through the mud, being accused of killing 4 Americans in Benghazi just to weaken her, even though she stood firm and had resolve all while the 60+ deaths under George W. Bush were ignored, then to have Bernie slander her further with dubiously manufactured offences…all this and more she endured, worst still, she had the audacity to survive it all where lesser people, especially the weak kneed men of DC, would have been crushed under the weight of it all. Hillary was never a symptom, nor was she a criminal, a shill or a some Machiavellian apparatchik…what she was was a woman who dared to stand tall and unabashedly be who she was and that could not be tolerated.

But please, do tell us again how it was never about her vagina.

          • Adonisus

….Where the hell are you getting the whole sexism angle here? Is that really all you can see here? That is fucking INSANE.

          • Jean-Marc in Canada

Where? The facts my dear boy, the facts. She did nothing illegal, immoral or unethical, the facts bare that out. So logically, when you dispense with that reality, all you’re left with is her gender and let’s be honest, in DC let alone the nation at large, a strong woman, especially one who has ambition, is not to be tolerated.

The truly sad thing is, most of us outside the U.S. could see the bullshit being done to her in bright neon lights, but you Americans, you’re so damned stupid, seriously. You can’t grasp pragmatism, you cling on to the ridiculous notion of ideological purity like Wayne LaPierre clings to his guns, a concept might I add that is no less fanciful than the concept of a sky daddy watching over you. The massive amount of ignorance among you population, so easily manipulated and herded.

So no, I’m not the one whose insane, it’s you. It’s your nation. The U.S. once led the world in science, technology and the principles of political ethics, now you lead in obfuscation, tribal politics, reality show sound bites and vapid idiocy on a scale that cannot be ignored by the outside world. That’s what we see, bright as day, too bad you’re in the fog of your own rigid ignorance.

          • Adonisus

……OK, I’m gonna roll it back a bit here. I shouldn’t have flown off the handle like that. We’re all supposed to be friends here, and I’m sure Joe doesn’t appreciate me typing loudly at random people. I haven’t experienced what you’ve experienced, and you haven’t experienced what I’ve experienced. At this point, we’ve kinda gotten to the point where we’re talking past each other. My apologies.

          • Homo Erectus

Bernie was/is not a Democrat. WTF does the DNC owe him?

          • thatotherjean

And what we got because too many like-minded souls didn’t bother to vote was better?

      • Jean-Marc in Canada

Classic deflection and bullshit puritanism. When will Millenidouches and their ilk learn that politics is never pure and never will be and that pragmatism, while sometimes uncomfortable, is the only real way to move forward. Then again, we’re talking about the “participation ribbon generation” and arguably the most self-indulgent entitlement babies in U.S. history. Finally, do your fellow citizens a favour and stop Sarandoning, it’s trite and wholly dishonest.

        P.S. For your edification.

In Florida they wouldn’t vote for marijuana fer chrissakes.

        • In the tiny little backwater town where I vote I was so surprised to see so many young people…then I remembered that the Marijuana initiative was on the ballot. Yes they did vote

          • Homo Erectus

I have a bunch of Millennials working for me. When the marijuana initiative was on the ballot it was all they could talk about in the weeks prior to the election. After the initiative was narrowly defeated I found out that none of them bothered to vote (they were sure everybody would be voting for it). The next day at work I casually remarked “Did you hear the marijuana initiative lost by just 4 votes?”
The looks I got were priceless.

      • fuow

And thank you for making my point. November 2016 wasn’t about voting for someone you considered worthwhile, it was about voting against someone who would attack the GLBT community.
        You still don’t get it.

          • TampaDink

As do I. They’ve been looking forward to it for some time…they placed their order 9 months ago. My sis-in-law joked that they’d embarked on a couple of other projects that were 9 months in the making. This time around there won’t be diapers to change.

So what type of unit a 5th wheel , reg towing trailer a camper piggy back??

          • TampaDink

It is a 19′ regular towing trailer, custom built. Fiberglass shell, making it light enough for a small/midsize SUV to tow.

          • JWC

very kewl will they take it to Victoria or claim it on the return

          • TampaDink

My sis-in-law blogged about that very subject. (Including a photo of her as a young girl during a visit to Victoria) Based on the ferry schedules & reviews of how touristy it has become, they’ve decided to check out Vancouver instead. (At least for this trip)

Our mechanic got the parts to repair the a/c in my car (a ’98 Accord that was passed down from my mom when she surrendered her driving a year ago) late this afternoon…when I picked it up (and coughed up $550., I dropped off Jeff’s car….his a/c is great, so he didn’t mind me using it on Saturday when I went to dinner w/ friends over in St. Pete Beach. Unfortunately, when I was driving home, I’d lowered the windows to expel the heat….and wouldn’t you know, the passenger front door window wouldn’t go up. I’m hoping to get an estimate on the repair before I depart….and that it won’t be too costly. Best of luck to you tomorrow as you perform as a good Samaritan taking your friend to the doc. Dan & Lesley will leave on Saturday morning….I suspect that I will resurface that afternoon.

As canoebum posted below, tRump isn’t going to stop with trans people. This is just a dress rehearsal for tRump, Bannon, Miller, Gorka, Pence and Session’s main goal of re-implementing a ban on gay and lesbian military service members.

That may seem unlikely now, but if tRump somehow escapes impeachment or resignation, he and his right-wing base will feel even more emboldened than ever to continue to push through their extremist right-wing agenda, including persecution of gay and lesbian Americans.
