Russian PM Blasts “Completely Impotent” Trump Over Sanctions, Declares Start Of “Full-Fledged Trade War”

WOW. The Washington Examiner reports:

On Wednesday, President Trump signed a new sanctions bill targeting Russia. Russia has reacted with unrestrained fury. Indeed, fury is an understatement. In a Facebook post specifically referencing Trump, the Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev (No. 2 only to Putin), warned that Congress sees Trump as “an incompetent player” who must be “liquidated”.

Yes, you read that right. While Medvedev is suggesting that Congress will liquidate Trump for opposing their efforts to sanction Russia, this also reeks of a Russian warning to Trump specifically. The rest of Medvedev’s post was equally aggressive.

He suggested that Trump has shown “complete impotence, in the most humiliating manner, transferring executive powers to Congress” and that this is the “beginning of full-fledged trade war” and “the end of our hopes of improving relations with the new administration.”

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

While it’s easy to make light of the threat, there are real world implications. With Europe already wavering on the U.S., Canada and Mexico pretty much in the same boat, Russia’s move could embolden China and India into a similar stance given Trump’s continued insults and embarrassingly banal bravado. Point being, the U.S. is burning far too many trade bridges and sooner or later, Americans are going to feel the heat.

      • HZ81

        I know, but thank you.

China imports mainly recycled cardboard and empty freight containers from the US. The US imports…you name it…from China. So who is going to be more hurt from a trade war? Oh…except those people that demand a 20th generation iPhone costing thousands of dollars. Maybe a few manufacturing jobs will come back when Chinese prices go through the roof.

        • clay

Trump twittered them into lifting their ban on US beef (after our mad cow disease scare years ago). With Trump’s disdain for US-based auto-manufacturers and media, I’m not sure what he’s going to do for intellectual property rights, or if he understands them beyond his own trademark name franchise.

The sad reality is, Russians aren’t stupid nor do they make any move without first looking at the entire board. As I’ve said before, Russians play Chess while most American politicians play Checkers. It would be unwise to see this as a simple tantrum. This is clearly a message to Trump but more importantly, it’s a signal to other trading partners who may be looking to squeeze the U.S. a bit. As I noted below, the U.S. under Trump has lost credibility and respect in both Europe and North & South America; his constant bullying antics have soured on trade issues. China and India have been quietly dealing with U.S. trade irritations for some time and Russia’s move could potentially give them an “out” to also offer up trade sanctions against what they perceive to be American push back. So again, I would not so blithely discount this move, especially given the very real impotence of Trump and his administration on the world stage.

    • lymis

Checkers? We’d be lucky. Trump is playing Chutes and Ladders, and cheating.

    • Xuuths

Russia doesn’t have the economic clout to do much. Their economy can’t support much wiggle room in terms of attempting to hurt the US. As Obama pointed out, they’re really the junior varsity at this time.

      • Jean-Marc in Canada

Re-read what I wrote, It’s not only or necessarily about Russia.

    • Jean-Marc has hit the proverbial nail on the head here. What’s more is, the Russian response was perfectly crafted to get the maximum emotional reaction from Trump. It shows the Russians clearly understand Trump from a psychological standpoint and know exactly which buttons to push. Calling him incompetent and Impotent and suggesting Congress is more relevant and important than he is, shows they know exactly how to manipulate Trump. My guess is General Kelly and several Secret Service agents are holding Trump down as they try to stop him from tweeting some inane response that invokes his “huge” electoral college win.

  • “Trump has shown “complete impotence, in the most humiliating manner…”

That’s some world class trolling there by Medvedev. Aint it?!?

until Flynn called the Russian Ambassador,
      to wish him “Merry Christmas”
      nineteen times.

It is a regime of TRAITORS.

It’s that what the world affairs has come to? Facebook versus twitter diplomacy? Whatever! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/70c4e34975247aed187db1196c147512efdf61c96a7f24fef0442291b8189485.jpg

        Ouch, indeed!

Hey now! That’s an insult to Robespierre! (Seriously, that man was far more intelligent than Trump could ever hope to be)

      • billbear1961

And he was left, not right.

It’s the punishment for fanaticism I’m interested in.

Today, in this country, for far-right fanaticism (an assault on the rule of law) and TREASON.

O/T Trumpee is tweeting links to the NY Post…about his performance in Youngstown.

    The town was on fire!

The National Enquirer is going to be jealous.

That’s odd because I watched the rally and it definitely was NOT a full house.

Dick Cheney wanted a unitary executive.
Steve Bannon wanted to burn down the federal government.

  • Nowhereman

How about we just cut them off entirely. They have nothing positive to offer. And we already have plenty of our OWN oligarchs buying up our government. We don’t need any Russians oligarchs helping them. I swear–the whole world must be owned by about 20 people.

    • Ben in Oakland

      21 if oyu include me.
They own all there is to own, and I own the rest.

  • If the “USSR” is pissed that trump is impotent (to help them conquer the world), then it shows Congress is finally stepping up to protect our international interests and properly hog-tying this disaster of an administration.

  • Gary Carnivele

I think calls for a very special Russian Assassination. C’mon if anyone can do it, you slimy boys can

They’d been waiting to use that “impotent” line since before he was elected. So much of this feels as if it’s playing out exactly the way Russia planned it.

In a way, Medvedev’s comments highlight how strong-President “democracies” misunderstand the US system.

Pooty-poot no doubt figured that his puppet in DC would have the same capacities he does, and is momentarily dumbfounded that Congress in general and SOTH in particular has the power to check POTUS on the front end of lawmaking just as SCOTUS does on the back end. And expecting Congress to “liquidate” Lord Dampnut ignores just how many Congresscritters still think their pet rocks have a shot with He Who Must Not Be Grabbed and just how many actually agree with Twitler (tweets and all).

    • Natty Enquirer

I doubt Putin is that stupid. But he may have underestimated the weakness of Trump’s support in the legislature.

      • boatboy_srq

This isn’t stupidity. It’s merely the familiarity of local institutions distorting one’s understanding of foreign equivalents. The last “weak” President Russia had was Yeltsin, and he was infirm: a weak President to them is a weak person. And the Duma is manipulable. In contrast, the US Congress is a strong institution, regardless of how strong or weak the President is: Putin has far less experience with such a body, and would assume that a POTUS who can’t “handle” Congress must be as weak as Yeltsin (or worse).

  • 2guysnamedjoe
  • Trump, probably tomorrow: “Prime Minister Medvedev just called to say I was the most important President ever in the history of the world. Complete importance, he said. And that I’m an incomparable player.”

Aide, whispering: “Sir, he said ‘impotent’ not ‘important.’ And it was ‘incompetent’ not ‘incomparable.’ Finally, they were tweets and a press release, not a phone call.”

Trump (laughing): “Ha! Those Russians with their clumsy English. I know what he meant.”

  • Ninja0980

    • jimbo65

That’s about all he’ll be able to do. He doesn’t dare go into a twitter tirade. Not against mother Russia. He just has to take it like the Putin bitch he is.

  • BobSF_94117

They have plans. Not good. Not good.

  • Boondoggle

Wow, hell hath no fury like a lover scorned. At least Russia and the American people can agree on one thing: dt is incompetent & impotent.

  • colin payne

Maybe you should have kept your mitts out of our elections, you tool of Vladimir Putin.

  • FelineMama

    Impotent…that works. No pun intended : )

  • bandanajack

the russkies questioned trump’s manhood. this should go over well…

  • Kenster999

I wonder how it’ll affect our cooperation in space?

  • TheManicMechanic

And here I was convinced Trump was Putin’s #2. Especially given how he’s circling the bowl.

  • Richard B

I rarely agree with any Russians point of views, but in this case, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev perspective is correct.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

Medvedev is very much a Putin puppet so he’s saying something Putin wants said.

  • rednekokie

Can’t say that I totally disagree with him — except that if anyone gets rid of the orange baboon, it will be us.

  • Westcoast88

Sorry, Russia, you get what you pay for.

  • GanymedeRenard

Channeling arrogance (obviously): “Gee, Ivanka, your name kinda sounds Russian. Bigly. But it’s a great name! A tremendous name! The best name!”

  • Davester

time to stock up on sturgeon roe!

  • Nic Peterson

Hmmm, good thing that hubby and I prefer a vodka produced over on Maui and sustainably farmed sturgeon roe sourced from US waters.

Sorry to see that there is a bit of buyers remorse on the part of the Russian government. Tee hee.

    • Edmund Allin

Maui vodka? Please tell me more!

      • Nic Peterson
      • Nic Peterson

        1 oz vodka
        1 oz dry curaçao
        .5 oz lime juice
        .5 oz gran Classico

Shake with ice, strain into coupe, orange peel twist. Yum

        • Edmund Allin

Can I use Angostura instead of Gran Classico?

          • Nic Peterson

Sure, just don’t use a half ounce. A couple of bar spoons each of Angostura and Campari could sub out for the GC.

            A votre Sante!

          • Edmund Allin

LOL, yes, 1/2oz Angostura in that mix would pucker my lips like Trump’s. The Campari is a great idea. Thanks! I shall enjoy it tomorrow.

  • What is remarkable here, is how well crafted Russia’s response is from a psychological standpoint. Clearly they know exactly what buttons to push. Using terms like “Incompetent player” and “transferring executive power to congress” and OMG throwing in the “I” word! (Impotent) , shows the Russians know exactly how to manipulate President tiny hands. Make no mistake this was not a rebuke by Russia , but a very calculated response designed to get very specific reactions from Trump. What is clear is the administration thinks they are playing poker with Putin, who actually is playing Chess.
