Tony Perkins: The Military Is No Place For Civil Rights

Via press release from hate group leader Tony Perkins:

The media and Democratic Party share a lot of things — and their miscalculation of voters seems to be one of them. In the days since Donald Trump wrestled the military back from the radical transgender policy of the Obama years, liberal commentators are desperate to show that it will hurt the president politically. But good luck proving it.

Please don’t tell the Left, but according to a number of pundits, the same Democrat leaders who underestimated Trump in November may be making the same mistake now. As far as most are concerned, winning the war against political correctness in the military only strengthens the president’s hand in the red and purple pockets of the country that elected him. “Let the Dems be the transgender party,” George Neumayr writes in the American Spectator. It will just make it easier for Trump to win a second term.”

The military has never been — and should never be — used as a vehicle to advance civil rights, political correctness, or workplace fairness. It does not exist, the editors of the Washington Examiner point out, “for personal enrichment, leisure, community, the pursuit of happiness, or for its own sake, as civilian institutions do. The military’s sole purpose is to smash and destroy enemies.” Fortunately, our nation has a commander-in-chief who recognizes this. If November was any indication, America also has an electorate who will reward him for it.

Perkins is apparently unaware of or is unwilling to recognize the role that Harry Truman’s 1948 executive order to integrate the armed forces had in propelling the civil rights movement for African-Americans. As it happens, the Washington Post takes note of that today.

  • Butch

Truman’s order was the first thing that entered my mind. Tony sounds more and more unhinged as every day passes.

  • Mrs. Councillor Nugent

Tonette, it’s no place for do-nothing parasite fundie chaplains

    • Mrs. Councillor Nugent

My father, as I’ve noted previously, was in five major campaigns in WWII. While never proclaiming himself an atheist, he nevertheless stated his hatred of organized religion frequently. So I don’t think that old fundie claim about no atheists in foxholes has any validity.

      • james1200

        Amazing. Thanks for sharing that.

      • Todd20036

        He’s adorable!

      • Mrs. Councillor Nugent

My father died in 1981, my mother not til 1999. While cleaning out the house in order to sell it I came across a long-forgotten box of loose pictures, mostly my father’s from WWII. The originals have all been donated to the proper places, But I’ve kept copies. The seated man in the helmet is my father. Here’s another pic of the other guy. You may draw whatever conclusions you may.

        • Kruhn

          Old time yummy!

      • Nowhereman

There have been atheists and LGBT people in foxholes as long as there have been foxholes.

  • kevin vincent

Excuse me? The military is the exact place for Civil rights! They are answerable to US after all

  • Rebecca Gardner

Tony demonstrates to the world that, yet again, he has no fucking idea what he’s talking about.

OT, but Hair Furor still hasn’t blocked me yet.

    • Rebecca Gardner

Also, the Judicial Branch is still functioning.

      • Hank

Hopefully, it will be done FASTER, than the Districts, that Florida had to re-draw! Skeletor and Company, dragged their feet to do that!

        • Kruhn

They’re probably waiting for the Supreme Court decision and hoping it goes their way.

    • Ninja0980

Wasn’t Trump supposed to be for the little guy and not the corporations?

      • Dave B

        Yeah….but her emails.

      • Rambie

You believed his campaign talk?! /s

      • Willys41

What Trump is supposed to be for or against is pretty much irrelevant when you consider the fact that he doesn’t read, he brags about never reading, he has no regard for any opinions but his own, he thinks he knows everything when in fact he fact knows nothing, and he does nothing to prepare himself for any situation, so the minute he opens his big fat mouth everybody in the room realizes that he doesn’t know the first f*cking thing about the subject at hand, so it’s pointless to even discuss anything with the guy because all he cares about is looking like the big man on TV.

        • prixator

Of course he knows everything – he watches Fox & Friends every day!

  • bkmn

End the blanket tax exemption for religious orgs and Tony would shut the fuck up quickly.

  • Statistics Palin

Has he ever served in the military? He’d be fragged in five minutes. Even the girl scouts would frag him.

    • Tawreos

I would love to see that.

    • Butch

I raised the same question once and found out that, yeah, he was in the Marine Corps and then later was a police officer. He obviously didn’t learn anything from the experience.

      • Statistics Palin

He’d better learn to stay the fuck away from the Girl Scouts.

      • well, i’ll have to go back and edit my previous comment. but i still want to note: a lot of people who served didn’t learn a goddamn thing from it. Chimpy is a prime example, tonette would be another. it’s not a coincidence that both are spoiled, rich, privileged grifting white men, either.

    • Bluto

Beat him senseless with a box of cookies. It would be a horrible waste of Thin Mints but worth it.

      • jsmukg

I wouldn’t even waste Samoas on Tonette, much less Thin Mints!

  • Ninja0980

Great, then there shouldn’t be any complaints about any kind of “religious freedoms” being violated in the military then right?

  • Skokieguy [Larry]

O/T: China is now throwing shade at our Mad King:

“Trump is quite a personality, and he likes to tweet,” Xinhua said in an editorial, as reported by the New York Times. “But emotional venting cannot become a guiding policy for solving the nuclear issue on the peninsula.”

  • Stogiebear

FUCK YOU, Tony. With Josh Duggar’s fingers.

  • Michael

Sorry but if I had to look at that reflection in the mirror every morning I’d be a bitter bitch too.

  • Snownova

Tell that to the black battalions of the Civil Fucking War, you dipshit!

  • Joseph Miceli

I can only hope that I live long enough to celebrate Tonette’s death, and that he suffers incredible agony in his last long, drawn out time on Earth.
I used to take the high road, but I just don’t have it in me any more.

    • i know exactly what you mean. i pride myself on being above petty nastiness, but if i hate these people, it’s because they keep giving me reasons to include such in my critique of them. it’s so hard not to want the worst things to happen to the lot of them.

    • Boreal

When they go low, we kick them in the balls/twat.

    • Macbill

Perhaps ALS so that he may drown in his own excretions.

      • Joseph Miceli

        I’m good with that

  • Skokieguy [Larry]

ProTip: God doesn’t like when people lie in his / her name. If he did support the shit you spew, he would have sent you the whole ‘build an ark’ message. but you got crickets… And a flood!

    • Nowhereman

Funny how they can’t see the signs when it happens to THEM. I’ll bet he blamed it on teh gay.

  • Frostbite

    No place for religion either.

    • Todd20036

Does this mean white people can be discriminated against, too?

      • M Jackson

We’re the most oppressed people in this country, haven’t you heard? Hard to believe, right?

          The struggle is real.

          • Todd20036

          • Rocco

          • M Jackson

I devote 5 minutes every-other day to The Fight.

            I salute you, sir.

        • Nowhereman

Well, just straight white conservative christian males. They are the most oppressed group in the country. Just ask them.

    • Goodboy

You’d think it would be a problem with that big one as one of their ten commandments..Do not murder.

      • Frostbite

But it’s ok to murder non-christians according to them.

  • boatboy_srq

They said this about women and AAs in uniform, too, when those groups were trying to attain parity.

Oh, right, Perkkkins wants to go back to that time, too.

  • Thorn Spike

Harry Truman would disagree and tell Toni to stfu.

  • Dan M

Punctuation error in the first sentence of the last paragraph. There should be a period after “Tony Perkins is apparently unaware. “. That is a complete thought

  • and what experience with the military does miss perki have, exactly? ah, i see that he did serve. but obviously gained nothing from the experience in terms of understanding what it should be.

  • lymis

So, Perkins would have no issue with a presidential tweet saying that there is no room in the military for Christians in any capacity?

  • Rex

It’s no place for religion either, so keep out of it.

  • M Jackson
  • bambinoitaliano

Apparently no civil rights or children rights in the bed room of christian households either according to Tony Perkin’s of Fucking Related Children.

  • This is not about transgender people. It is about arbitrarily and capriciously deciding to exclude a specific class of people from the opportunity to serve the nation in the military, with no rational basis for the exclusion, and without reference to their qualifications or capacity for the job.

There are somewhere around 15,000 transgender people currently serving in the military in many different capacities – these people are highly qualified and capable.

What we need in this nation is less in the way of phony Christianist Dominionist social conservative experimentation that enriches the wealthy.harms women, children. poor people, non-white people and members of ethnic minorities, people who are immigrants and LGBTQ people.

    • Friday

And of course revealing just how much BS their budget complaints are worth when they want to throw out all those people and their training, only to spend it again trying to replace them. The last time they did this with DADT, firing a bunch of LGBTs in mission-critical language departments, ‘for security reasons’… they ended up having to turn around and *lower* security standards even to *find* linguists.

      • Nowhereman

Yeah–their whole fiscal conservative line is a bunch of bullshit. Aren’t they firing up yet another “investigation” into Hillary’s effing emails? There always seems to be plenty of money for them to chase their rainbow-farting unicorns. If they really wanted to make our economy work, the republicans in congress would just go home and let the democrats fix the mess that conservatives have made of it.

    • Rocco

      Very well put…

  • TrueWords

WOW what an idiot…so I guess it is time for separate barracks for the blacks and the whites YET again…ah progress thru the eyes of a hate group

  • Leo
    • ChrisMorley

AG Jeff Sessions will be absolutely delighted. /s

      • Nowhereman

        Yeah–he’s such a champion of civil rights…

    • Nowhereman

Wow! Of course the FBI under Sessions Justice Dept won’t be doing diddly squat to comply.

  • Uncle Mark

Joe points out Pres. Harry Truman’s executive order to integrate the military. For some reason, I think Tony would be happy to reverse that as well…unless that meant that Tony & family had to serve. Bigots tend to hate A LOT of people, not just one group; pretty much anyone not like them.

    • Boreal

Tony would love to own him some brown folks if it were legal.

      • Nowhereman

True that. He’s from the branch of christianity who use the buybull to support their racism. I think the buybull says that it’s OK to own slaves as long as they aren’t from your own village. And of course women are considered to be the property of males no matter where they are from. Conservative christians have more in common with Boko Haram, ISIS and the Taliban than they do with American values.

    • Ninja0980

The bigots wants to turn back the clock on all rights, not just ours.

    • Goodboy

Yeah, I’ve never seen one yet that just stops the hate at just one minority. If Tony thought he could make a buck off going after others he would in a heartbeat.

      • Nowhereman

True that. They’ve used gay people as cannon fodder in their holy war for centuries. Now that gay people are more generally accepted, they have chosen transgender people as the new scary monster.

    • Joseph Miceli

He has addressed racist groups here in Louisiana in the past . There’s a picture Joe shows of Tonnette doing just that that Joe posts every now and then .

  • bambinoitaliano

The military has no place for imaginary sky fairy more than Marvel’s Captain America or DC’s Wonder Woman fantasy.

  • Craig Howell

If you’re not already familiar with it, search “Dreyfuss Affair” for the story of what France went through around the turn of the 20th century when blatant anti-Semitism discredited France’s military establishment.

  • Ken M

So, a week, and a Healthcare bill failure later, the right is finally speaking out against the Trans in the military issue. Anybody else notice their initial lack of opinion on the topic? Of course that was the same time that Trump was ripping into a veteran. Picky, picky.

  • jimbo65

This douche is so overdue for a rent boy scandal.

  • BeaverTales

According to Wikipedia, TP bought the KKK mailing list from David Duke for $82K after he served in the military, and he advised the US State dept on terrorism and served on the Baton Rouge police force. Let’s talk about that before we start taking any Civil Rights advice from this clown.

  • Karl Dubhe

Someone needs to look up the history of the Sepoy Mutinies…

Ya, dude, if the soldiers are treated like shit they tend to shoot their officers.

By all means, you’re not too old to serve your nation, Tony, enlist. Show everyone how it’s done. Bring your kids, if you have any.

  • 2patricius2

“The military has never been — and should never be — used as a vehicle to advance…political correctness…”(i.e religious beliefs such as those of right wing Xians like Tony)

  • Trump win a second term? Hon, not only are you delusional, but you’re FUCKING delusional!

  • Tiger Quinn

I’ve stopped reading literally anything “they” say – I’ve had a lifetime of their poison, stupid ideas, badly spoken fears, and general c*ntiness. Maybe they’re right, maybe I’m wrong, but I choose to only hear the lyrics I want to hear from now on.

  • LarryChemEngr

Tony Perkins is a religious fanatic who will say anything, even lie, for Jesus because he believes it will save his imaginary soul.

  • Richard B

The military opened its doors to our transgendered brothers and sisters for two strategic reasons,
    1) transgender folks tend to be extraordinarily talented and brought much needed skills into the military’s tool chest.
    2) the belief our military should be representative of a cross sections of our society.
The military are not the ones clamoring to remove and discriminate against their transgendered troops. When Trump decided to expel the transgendered from the military last week, it was done without their consultation or participation.
The expulsion of the transgendered from the military was done purely for political reasons. It was done by a craven politician needing the support of their religious base. Trump has been weakened by scandal and in so much trouble politically, he is actively shoring up his religious base for whom he just fed some tasty red meat.
    * Tony Perkins is the evil leader of a SPLC designated hate group called the “Family Research Council”. It is funded by Education Secretary, Betsy DeVos and her brother Erik Prince, the former owner of a mercenary army called “Black Water” and it was Prince who has acted as a conduit for Trump to Russian authorities. Tony Perkins is an advisor to Donald Trump. If you see this vile man on network television, please contact the network and ask them why they are giving a voice to a well known hate group leader.

  • boatboy_srq

They said this about women and AAs in uniform, too, when those groups were trying to attain parity.

Oh, right, Perkkkins wants to go back to that time, too.

  • Barry William Teske

Perkins and Faux News share something too…
The crap coming out of Perkins mouth.
Don’t they know that is biologically wrong?

  • Jerry Kott

LGBT folks don’t have Civil Rights outside of the military. So what is the issue. There is a big difference between a reason and an excuse.

  • Macbill

    Thank Pasta, Tony is unelectable.

  • Willys41

15% of the US Army has an MOS that might land them in combat. The rest of the file clerks and cooks and truck mechanics can just deal with their “unit cohesion” or get the hell out of the uniform.

  • dagobarbz, fine Italian shoes

“their miscalculation of voters seems to be one of them….”

Irony is not his strong suit.

  • JWC

Apparently neither does Tony’s organized religion

  • Halou

“The military’s sole purpose is to smash and destroy enemies.”

Wrong. The military is there to defend the nation from those that would threaten it, and while that sometimes includes acting like The Hulk oftentimes the military simply existing is all it takes to deter foreign aggression or domestic unrest. Tony Perkins did a stint in the US Marine Corps, he should know this.

  • -M-

That’s right Tony, when you join the military you give up the right to choose who you work with because carrying out the military’s mission is what’s important, not coddling your personal prejudices.

  • SFBruce

“…liberal commentators are desperate to show that it will hurt the president politically.”

Forget liberal commentators, the military itself, starting with the Joint Chiefs of Staff, isn’t so crazy about it, either.

  • Nowhereman

That’s “Democratic” leaders, asshole. The military has been on the forefront of civil rights since Truman integrated the services in 1948. Is Perkins saying that our service members should fight for our rights but not have any themselves? Tony should go sell slop buckets with Bakker.

  • Rocco

Poor Tonette (there’s a guy on here with a better spelling, where are you, I ❤️ you), so far from the seat of power, so far from media attention, must do something extraordinary to register even a blip on the radar of today’s news. This won’t do it dear, not even with your fancy wiglet. Maybe time for a new hair system? Today’s media terrain is more competitive than ever, and what is admired in Toad Suck, Arkansas just isn’t enough anymore. Time to step it up, gurrl!

  • Robert Adams

Does his breath stink from all the shit that comes out of his mouth?

  • KnownDonorDad

The real crime here is is high school-level smugness.

  • Bill Haffey

The social experimenting in the military comes from those who would exclude people from service, The man recognized as the “father of the US Army” General Baron Von Stuben, was a gay man, a fact know by both Franklin who recommended him, ans Washington who appointed him. There are records of transgender soldiers serving in the military in every war the US has fought. Some were discovered and forced out, Others, were discovered and awarded a pension anyway. Still others were never discovered until their death. The history of these transgender folk is recorded in the Transgender Archive which can be accessed through PBS. LGBT foll have been a part of the military since the beginning of time, and the US military since its formation. While there have been witch hunts, and even McCarthy’s Lavender scare, LGBT folk have been faithful to their oath to the nation.
It is time Tony learned some history.

  • Franciscan

It’s not that he’s unaware. It’s just that he’s a big fat liar.

  • RKitty01

    he’s just an idiot
