VIRAL VIDEO: In A Heartbeat

The HuffPost reports:

Ah, young love! Is there anything more exciting ― or potentially torturous? That’s the question a new animated short film asks while beautifully depicting the angst and trepidation that can blossom right alongside a budding infatuation ― especially for LGBTQ people.

“In A Heartbeat,” by Beth David and Esteban Bravo, tells the story of Sherwin, an awkward, young teen, whose heart literally pops out of his chest and chases after his classmate Jonathan. Sherwin is then forced to chase down his heart before it reveals how he feels to his crush.

Sigh…to be young and to be in and out of love……

Who can forget their first crush? It’s when I first learned the meaning of unrequited love. 🙁

    • My onion-slicing techniques have far more in common with a Freddy Kreuger -inspired bludgeoning.

      • That_Looks_Delicious

You need to have a very sharp knife and a fresh onion to do what’s shown in that video. If the onion starts getting a little dry, or if the knife gets the least bit dull, it won’t work.

        • Rambie

I have a ceramic knife set I use for veggies. Those things stay sharp

“Grantchester” Season Three Finale Spoiler Follows

American viewers: Wasn’t it sweet the way they handled the “queer Leonard storyline” at the end, last night?

Keeping in mind that this was 1950s England – during which homosexuality was a crime – I thought the writers handled it quite well.

Well, thanks a lot, just when I thought I could get through today without shedding a tear. Sort of how I felt about my first love at 14, except I never told her, even though it took me until 30 to get over her. I Still wish I would have told her just so she would have known that once upon a time someone loved her that much.

    • JWC

I am hoping its not to late

      • Octavio

        It’s never too late.

        • Talisman

For some of us, it was too late at birth.

          • Octavio

            🙁

      • GayOldLady

I’m 33 years happily married, she’s a widow and we’re both old women. She was my first love and as everyone knows there’s never anything else in life that happens to you that is quite like that. It’s just sad that some things that are so beautiful and so precious go unspoken.

        • JWC

My only thought was as you are both in the twilight and both with your full lives , not meaning to restart anything but to share those feelings That’s just me

          • GayOldLady

I’ve thought about it because I know she’s never been loved in the way she deserved to be, but feared she’d take it the wrong way.

          • JWC

            You know best of all

          • JWC

It may be awkward but it would be honest and heartfelt

I was 17…he was 22 (an older man) I still think about him. A lot. And that was a very LONG time ago.

      • GayOldLady

        I know what you mean.

    • vorpal 😼

      =sigh=
My best friend when I was 17. And he was such a flirt with me at parties. He would get drunk and then we would wrestle and roll around and he would lick my face and nibble on my ears and rub up against me.

All my friends were convinced he was bi. When I told him, he realized immediately that I had a crush on him and said he wasn’t that way.

The bastard would then stay over at my house after nights of drinking, sleeping next to me in the basement on a mattress, only to wake me up and say, “Guess what I just did laying next to you while you were sleeping?”

Such an ass :-). I adored the hell out of him and he was my first love.

      • GayOldLady

Oh, what torture!!! I know he broke your heart.

My first love tortured me too, although I don’t think she meant too. I went to Catholic schools. In Elementary school it was co-ed, but in HS girls from all over the diocese went to all girls catholic HS and the boys went to an all boys catholic HS. That’s where we first met and for me it was basically love at first sight. At lunch she would do things like sit on my lap and kiss me on the cheek and ask me if I had a cigarette, which of course I always did. I don’t think she ever bought a pack, she always bummed off of me. She always relied on me for beer on the weekends too. We spent the night together regularly. My home was like a boarding house with all of my Italian family there, she was Italian too so she fit right in. We usually slept on the floor at my house, but at her house she had a twin bed and we both slept on that bed in the same room with her older sister. She would wrap her arms around me. I’m sure she could feel my heart beat. We spent just about every weekend together for 4 years. Then we went our separate ways, although we’re still in touch from time to time we’ve never discussed my sexuality, although she knows I’m gay, has met my wife and seems to accept my relationship.

        • motordog

My ultimate crush was on a good friend who was, alas for me, straight…I was best man at his wedding, planned his bachelor party, we went skydiving together. I’ve carried this stupid infatuation around for some 15 years now! All the other guys in our circle of friends were straight, I guess I was the token gay (our initial connection was we all played dungeons and dragons). I haven’t seen him in a few years…our group’s friendship ended in that way were jobs and growing familes start getting in the way of weekly get-togethers, so they become monthly, then every few months, then one day you realize you’ve likely seen them for the last time, and you didn’t have the foresight to even say goodbye. I still think I’d pick him over any other guy given the chance…

          • GayOldLady

That was likely your first real love. There’s nothing like the first time you feel love/lust/want/need for the first time. I hate to tell you, but he’ll have a special place in your heart until the day you die.

      • J Ascher

I moved often as a kid so my first love wasn’t until I met someone in college. Our relationship was much like you describe.

    • Todd20036

Before I could have a first love, I had to figure it all out which gender I loved.

      I didn’t even know that until I was 23.

My first love was a NYC police officer.

I still stay in touch with him

    • dustin fibers

I’m so lucky. My first love is my now love. 7/31 was our 24th anniversary. Married for 7 years. Thank you Ronald for your steadfast love, your humor and your passion. Loving you has made me a better person, yours always.

      • hudson11

        bravo! many congrats!

        • dustin fibers

          😀 so fringing happy…

          • hudson11

23 years here and 10 married on the 25th of this month. Still have to pinch myself once in a while.

      • GayOldLady

        Congrats to you both!

    • Then I shouldn’t hesitate to remind you of how much I admire you from much too far away (an issue of geography–not of the heart) and how much I enjoy seeing that you’ve posted something. Now that JMG has grown to so many hundreds of posts on most threads, and I don’t have nearly as much free time as I used to have, I don’t get to see you as often as I’d like 🙂

My heart did that once. I got all cold and clammy with my heart racing around like crazy. At the hospital emergency room they discovered it was because my blood sugar had dropped to slightly above 20 points. ❤️💛💚

First Oliver did that incredibly ADORABLE video coming out to is 5 yr old little brother and now this! Thank goodness the bad news tide seems to be changing a little bit, it’s been a ugly week last week.

It must be an additional terror in the already-frightening game of young romance to wonder if the object of your affections shares your orientation. Props to those who brave it.

  • SoCalGal20

    Awww, this was lovely.

  • narutomania

Ah, yes. Sweet love, young love.

    Nerdgasm: Jeanne Moreau has died.

The trailer is kinda tacky but the movie is good, The Bride Wore Black.

They accidentally killed her husband on their wedding day. She deliberately hunts them down one by one.

  • TheManicMechanic

The realist in me sees this and knows the poor kid would be dead instantly and there would be blood everywhere. But this was so cute and touching and sweet my romantic side suckerpunched that realist and just enjoyed the short. 🙂

    • AJ Drew

Ha! I’m not quite *that* jaded, but yeah, how often would one’s first homo-crush reciprocate? But, it’s a sweet fantasy cartoon, yes. I liked it.

      • Gregory In Seattle

I think the ending could be read as the target was understanding and not being judgemental, it is a tad ambiguous. That the other boy returned his broken heart is a pretty powerful thing, regardless of what happens later.

  • DaddyRay

Thank You Michael for tipping this to Joe – what a beautiful video to watch right before bed

  • The Professor

It’s wonderful. And incredibly effective at the message of love, so it is sure to enrage all the usual suspects.

  • WitlessProtection

OH THE FEELS! Kids today are so lucky they live in a time where who we are is so much more accepted than when I was in middle/high school.

  • Robert Anthony

Oh the involuntary tears. The big, fat, wet, rolling over your lower eyelid, streaming down your cheeks, tears. We don’t live in that kind of world, but it’s nice to know there are others who know we should. *guhhhh* This devastated me and warmed me at the same time.
